Happy Does is one of my go-to spots in Gaslamp. It really does live up to their name and is a vast improvement from Dicks Last Resort that was previously in there. The reasons that I like Happy Does are many, including how dog-friendly they are, it's so nice just to hang out with your furry friend at a bar and have other furry friends there as well. The manager even came up to pet my dog and gave him some burger meat, which he loved. I am also happy about how they divided the space - the front "yard" area, the back inside area with games and the karaoke/dance-floor area. I particularly like the yard area since it feels like you're at someone's backyard party (with lawn chairs and all). I also enjoy coming here for pre or post Padres games as well as the camaraderie with other padres fans. They have some pretty good drinks that are pretty decently priced for downtown. I haven't had a chance to order any food here but from what I saw others eating, looked very good.

Happy Does is a super fun bar for during the day, into the night. It is inside/outside with a turf area for games and fire pits. In the back there are ping pong tables and other games. The bartenders are all super cool and know how to make a good drink. At night they now have a speakeasy-style club with a dj and dance floor. Super fun - great for after a Padres game!

OK, this is such a cute spot! I've seen it on social media, but I recently went to this with my friend and her friends. It was a nice day when I went. They have a little courtyard area and a bar. They have games inside. And it's dog friendly. I didn't order any alcohol cause I was driving, but the service was pretty efficient. The staff is super friendly! I do believe they have food, but I forgot what they had. I'm definitely gonna come back here again with my dog!

Such a great space! This bar is huge and filled with seating, tables, and games. Everywhere you look there is something to do or somewhere to take a picture. I love the way this bar is set up. Part of it is outdoor vibes with ping pong, corn hole, Jenga, and connect four. Part of it is indoor bar with karaoke, photo booths, and an indoor bar. I love how dog friendly it is too, patio area is pooch approved. I ordered the Happy Juice which was a sparkling water rimmed with chamoy and tajin and some tequila and lime. It was delicious and refreshing. Overall I could see myself coming back here to play some games and get a drink.

We are on our way back to the car to go home when my son saw this place and he really wanted to go inside and check it out. I was skeptical they would allow kids because it's at downtown and there were lots of people drinking but I asked anyways and to my surprise they really do allow kids but only until 7pm. The place was so cool. It was so huge with lots of games to play with. They have karaoke rooms, ping pong tables, darts, a basketball arcade game, bean bag toss, uno, connect four, Jenga and plenty more. The best part was, you do not need to pay for each game to enjoy it, it's right there for you to play for free. You only pay for your drinks and food. It was really fun, especially for group of friends it'll be a perfect place to hang out. Lots of fun activities to do and games to play.

Pretty cool place to hang out, especially for a big group. It's a super large space, with pickle ball courts although it looked like the ping pong tables were on them at the time, and corn hole. In another room, there was a huge screen TV playing sports. There's so much seating inside and out, I was surprised. Tried the Happy Juice which was a sparkling water and tequila. Not bad, no complaints. Service was super nice from the back bartender. There were a lot of remnants of the Dick's Last Resort that once stood here. Recommend hosting a birthday here

HAPPY DOES BAR @ DOWNTOWN 5TH AVE Parking is available for street for pay, i'd highly recommend getting an uber for a night out and to avoid parking spaces and traffic. I celebrated one of my friends birthday and we decided to come to Happy Does Bar for their karaoke! we came on a Saturday night and there was no cover and we came out around 11:30 PM and it was still popping! I really loved how there was an outside area just like a lounge for you to hang out vibe get some drinks and in the inside there's also a karaoke stage as well. That was incredible and you can request any songs you'd like. if you go far back into the bar, there's also even more things there's like a whole pickle ball area I believe or some court. but there's just so many different bars and I loved the vibe of everything. The DJ was also amazing and I just love all the different music they had in every single section of the bar itself. The service there is great, the staff is friendly, the DJ was having a hype time, and the Karaoke staff were incredible and excited!

We stopped in here after a Padres game - and it was packed! There was a bouncer on the outside, checking ids before we walked in. Once inside, there's a lot of outdoor seating and an outdoor bar, along with a good amount of inside area with seating, and a game area. You can order drinks, and food, at the bar, and they give you a number and you take a seat, and they deliver your food to you. For food, I had the jumbo chicken tenders, and made it a combo, adding onion strings. The chicken was plentiful, and there were more than enough onion strings for one person (I ended up sharing most of them). The food was good, and a good beer and cider selection, just very noisy (hard to have a conversation at your table).

Looking down through the Gaslamp see the many stores with some of the best pubs which have been since the late 80s.

The greatest locatipn that was in the Gaslamp that had some of the wildest parties and the white butcher paper hats sith the wildest sayings Dicks Last Resort. Happy Does having the outside dinning the same of the partu atmosphere with picmic tables you can have the best time. Going out for lunch the Happy Does the menu I had seen the menu that has sone of the eye catching plates filling you up. Arriving at the restaurant I was noticed by the securty asking for ID welcomed and seated at the picnic table having to wait gace me a chance to look at the outside. The security came and asked me if I was being helped he got a person to come and get my order. The server brought me the menu and took my order for drinks the look at the menu the topper has some of the best prices for the happy hour your menu needs to have prices for dishes that are the Happy Hour Oriented. The views of the rsstaurant seeing the jenga games if the games were for the sobriety of the many that have drinks. When the food came out it the size of the fod it was the biggest for loaded fries it has all the best steak fries nice and thick with chicken. Customer service is the best from the security gave me the recomend sone of the best loaded fries great dish for football groups. Ambiance for the restaurant you can come and have drinks with the best in different for the many cocktails to have with friends or the night as a couple. As a Yelp Elite Reviewer Happy Does has many tbings the great food great drinks having the best with drinks the feel of the location brings back the feel of Dicks Last Resort.

Today I stopped in just to find a place to hang out!! And they were super nice the place is so big and such a good crowd, they made me a non alcoholic version of the happy juice and it was the perfect mix of sweet and sour!! And very refreshing. The service was so good here!

This was a great spot for before a padres game, with indoor and outdoor seating. Dog friendly, and fast service. Unfortunately there are no gluten free items on the menu so couldn't grab a snack but the drinks were fantastic and there's a photo booth. It's also so cute inside and just overall good vibes.

Absolutely the worse customer service. The bouncer tried to not let my son in because he assumed my son was trying to drink. My son then said those kids are 5 years old and inside and you are telling me I can't come in. The bouncer then says they are minors. My son says "I'm a minor" he then continues to harass my son. Bouncer says they are with a parent. My son says this is my dad, I'm with a parent too. He then questioned my son about his birth year. He wouldn't let it go and asked my husband for his birth year. It was 4:00 in the afternoon. They were wanting to eat! Finally he let them in but then looks at my son and says don't even try to drink. Are you kidding me?! We will never be back and will be reaching out to a supervisor very soon. read more

came here before a padres game - great vibe!!! inside and outside options with super fun music and colorful decoration. was a bit pricy with not the best pre-game specials, so thats the only reason i give 4 instead of 5 stars. bartenders were so nice and fast. chicken tenders with onion strings was surprisingly delicious! would def come back. read more

My GF and I can't agree if it's pronounced "Happy Duz" or "Happy Doez" but nevertheless is a fun drinking spot. They have good but didn't get any. Good cocktails and specials. Appears to be a Jets bar. Fun games like Jenga and connect 4. There are fire pits outdoors. I would recommend the mezcal cocktail or the Kimmy gibbler cocktail. read more

Horrible! The bouncer was so rude and then we sat down at a table and didn't get a server ever come. She literally went to every table except ours. Every other table had white people, except us and we were totally ignored. We had to end up going to the bar to get a drink. read more

I've always enjoyed this bar. It's a classic fun dive bar with awesome music! However, they repeatedly reject my friends of color. I defended the bar the first time because the friend they rejected was tipsy. However, they recently rejected 2 sober (one was literally a sober driver) friends without a reason. I'm disappointed with the business and that discrimination is still happening in San Diego. read more

Staff was unbelievably rude to us, horrific experience. Brand new drivers license taken away, claiming it was fake. Refused to let us talk with any other staff members or explain why they thought the very real ID was fake. We, 24 years old, spent several hours just politely trying to get it back, even with SSC, birth certificate, passport, and DMV proof. Haven't gotten the ID or any contact from the establishment despite our reaching out. Ruined our night. I hate to pin them as transphobic/homophobic, but the staff behavior was a bit too blunt not to feel that way. Couldn't believe the treatment we got at Happy Does. read more

Stay away. This establishment taxes your bill 4% for COVID relief. We all are already hurting, but at the end of the night, they feel they deserve more from your pocket. The manager said they are not the only one, other bars in gaslamp do it also. So, it makes it okay. In very, very small and washed out print on the menu states this charge. Deceptive thievery. Using COVID as an excuse. Low of low life. read more

Connect four was fun but after waiting for 45 minutes for a server my boyfriend and I lost our interest/ appetite. After expressing our concern to the manager about the poor service she didn't show an bit of remorse. Definitely our once and last time visiting this establishment. read more

The atmosphere and space is so great! Big thing for me is coming for happy hour, ordering off the happy hour menu and then being slammed with a non happy hour rate bill because the padres game is on?? It is posted everywhere that happy hour is happening during the time I'm here. Not one sign about no happy hour during games. Seems incredibly sus and false advertisement. So ask ahead of time so you don't end up with an awful surprise of grossly overpriced drinks. read more

i live down the street from this place. was in the mood for a burger, have been here before for drinks and the Lychee was always a hit... food was really good and the bartender who catered towards me had great banter and service..... my only issue was another bartender saw me by myself and decided to make inappropriate comments about my tattoos.. in a gross sexual manor. my tattoos may have a certain connotation to them but that is no invitation to make suggestive comments towards me or my appearance.. i was so uncomfortable i paid for a sweater to cover myself up as i was trying to enjoy my time. the blonde woman who charged me for the sweater kept saying "you're overthinking his comment... he wasn't being that way towards you but to your tattoo" after i was given the sweater BY THE PERSON WHO MADE THE COMMENT, the blonde lady pulled him aside to tell him i was uncomfortable and he told me "I didnt do anything wrong, its not my fault you don't have a sense of humor." GROSS! the original server came back and was kind and we bantered more. i'm sad that two bad eggs can ruin an experience. i live down the street and won't be back. overpriced food, oversexual and under-understanding staff (besides the person who actually helped me) i would give 0 stars but there was one person who made the experience not as bad as it could have been. read more

This is a new spot and it is great. The outdoor seeing is gorgeous. The menu is really fun with unique drinks (I recommend the Me ican Candy Shot or the Lychee Lychee Bang Bang,) the staff are really polite and give great drink recommendations. Overall yummy food, great service, amazing drinks. You absolutely need to try their Mexican candy shot! So good! read more

I've come to happy does about twice a month for the last year for karaoke nights. JP hosts Friday's and Saturday's and is always a vibe.. on 1/27/24 I saw an altercation on stage where an irate singer was bumping into JP with his shoulder and appeared to be upset... JP maintained his composure and kept the show going. Soon after the irate singer spoke to the manager and now JP is no longer the karaoke host there. Something fishy going on but I support JP and will be following his karaoke shows wherever he lands next. I do not support a business where employees need to allow themselves to be physically abused. read more

I'm a Phoenician, but frequent San Diego often. I only found out about Happy Does because I follow JP, the Karaoke DJ around wherever he's at on the days I'm in town. He's the best! Otherwise I would have never known about this place. Decent chicken fingers. read more

Waited at the bar for 15 minutes and was never served. Wasn't even busy at the bar. Mentioned something and was still ignored. We got the point. Cerveza jacks next door is really good though, I recommend that place for sure and really glad it worked out that way. read more

Though it is a new location that opened up and was pretty chill.The latina bartender that just stands and talks at the outside bar with the "assets" highkey rude af. Wasnt even busy but had a whole attitude when we went to order our drinks. The latina asked for all the drink orders after she made the first one and when i ordered the same drink as the first one she had to mumble something out her breath. Dont know what her problem was but just decided shes not worth a tip and not to go up to her again. The blond hair girl walking around is super chill and way more approachable. Dont waste your time walking up to the bar. The latina really be a disappointment read more

Everyone I talk to about this place loves it! The atmosphere is happy, the Topo Chico drink with tajin and tequila is absolutely FIRE and they even have lawn games on Astro turf... Happy Does is an outrageously-great outdoor patio nestled into downtown San Diego and it has views of the sky and great music. I'd give it three thumbs up if I could! read more

Wow where to start. We decided to go to this establishment after attending a padres game. Upon entering we were all carded and told no one underage could pass the entrance. Us all being over 21 we're fine and presented our IDs. While not only having 4 rounds and playing corn hole and connect 4 we were randomly re carded for absolutely no reason. No one had been asked around us, so we asked why we were being re carded, the response was we look young. Compliment aside jk we mentioned what we were told at the beginning so why are we being singled out. They said we were acting tough and proceeded to escort us out. For asking a simple question and also complying we were escorted out. All this being said this place discriminates. I'm not saying for race but I felt our party was singled out for absolutely no reason. I'd skip this spot and go to another. read more

Prices are a little up there given "the size" of the burgers, but you're paying for the ingredients and quality of it. The flavors of each burgers are truly incredible. Everything is fresh, cooked to perfection, and explained very well when brought to the table. I forgot the name of the burger I tried, but it was chicken based that was like a curry infused (it was yellow) and I thought it was a nice edition to the menu. Side note, you might want to wear gloves or eat with knife and fork as you'll be using a lot of napkins for sure (haha) I will continue to show the love for this place and enjoy this as one of my "special treat meals". To add on fries or onion rings, there is an additional charge of either $4.50 or $5.50, respectively. So prices on top of your main item can definitely get pricey. Food flavors and presentation seemed average like your standard diner type restaurant. Nothing was remarkable. Just solid.

I ended up taking 2/3 of my meal home because the portions are big enough for two.

For appetizers, we did start with the Brussel sprouts and the French onion soup and both were PHENOMENAL. The French onion didn't have the crunch and a lot of cheese like others, but the flavor was amazing! For drinks, I was having their Old Fashions and they were soooo tasty. Was the perfect drink for the night. Dessert, we had a Mud Pie and Apple Crisp. The only thing we were disappointed with was the apple crisp, because we wanted it to be warmer and a little more crispier, but it truly did taste like Thanksgiving in your mouth! I should have taken more pictures, but we were too excited for our dishes, so we just dove right in! Gives me another reason to go back!

I had mixed feelings about Happy Does Bar. On the one hand, the drinks are *very* strong, which is definitely a plus if you're looking to feel the buzz quickly. However, the prices are pretty steep for what you're getting. Not exactly the best bang for your buck, but at least you won't be thirsty for long. The place itself was super crowded, and it felt a bit too loud inside, especially with all the games going on. If you're looking for a chill spot to have a conversation, this isn't it. The noise level made it hard to even hear myself think. And unfortunately, the bathroom was a huge downside. It was disgusting--definitely not somewhere I'd want to spend any time. I get that some bars aren't known for immaculate restrooms, but this one was pretty rough. Overall, if you're into a lively, high-energy place with strong drinks, you might enjoy it. But if you're not a fan of crowds, noise, or questionable bathrooms, you might want to look elsewhere. read more

Server was super upbeat! Service was quick , cool place to grab a bite with games. Unfortunately was offered fires as if they were included with my meal then charged extra. Server asked for a card to hold onto but not to charge until our dinning experience concluded. Was charged for our entire parties bill prior to ever receiving our meal. My card was charged again for my portion of the bill. My experience ended with a 118.00 tab plus an additional 145.00 hold. 263.00 plus an automatic 33.00 tip so to dine at a bar was 293.00 not to mention the bar fights as we exited. read more
