Cute, cute, and more cute! Add in delicious, and this place is a definite winner. As other people have noted, you will think you're lost on the way to this place. Fortunately, as you drive through the subdivision, there are some excellent and large signs as you pull up toward the restaurant. Don't be unnerved by parking your car next to some planes! It's all part of the experience. Obviously, it's a lot of fun to eat in a restaurant where you can watch planes and other flying vehicles (gyroscope for the win!). Kids love it, and watching them squeal in delight is part of the joy of eating there. But let's get to the food, because that is what is truly the best part about this restaurant. A list of delights, in no particular order: 1. Homemade corn beef hash - Don't be fooled when it first comes out and you think there isn't enough corned beef. Oh, it is so good, and it is such a good balance of potatoes and really high quality corned beef. For real. 2. Biscuits and gravy - Y'all. Y'ALL. Get some this, the best sausage gravy on the planet. You'll thank me. You're welcome. 3. Perfectly done eggs - No one makes a big deal about cooking perfect eggs, but they should. This place? Exactly right every time. No matter how you order them. 4. Service - We've never had anything but truly personalized, friendly, genuinely interested in us having a great meal experience from the lovely servers. Ask them for suggestions. They so want you to be happy! I really give this place a 4.5 star, only taking points away for the insanity of the journey to find it. Found this cute airport Cafe just off Exit 279, in Lutz Fl. nice simple menu with breakfast being served all day. Must haves are the biscuit and gravy, some of the best I've ever had... and the pumpkin pancake topped with whip cream and cinnamon was too die for! Service was great and extremely friendly, locally owned was an added plus. We were told that on weekends they own a small plane for guest excursion after or before lunch.. A fun place to eat breakfast & watch air planes come & go. Sometimes even a hot air ballon & helicopter. They also let kids get into this 1930's Boeing for photos! Nice people and by the way the pancakes are huge! The staff was great, the food came quickly and it's fairly priced. Good experience until the waitress decided to add her own 25% tip at checkout. She was a good waitress but to be so bold as do do that, ridiculous. I changed to 20% but it still left me hot. Went in today for lunch. Wanted a new place to visit on the weekends. Ordered (2) burger with Fries. My medium well burger was raw on the inside. Our server never returned to the table so I asked for the uneaten burger to be removed from the bill. Older Blonde-haired lady with glasses, said she wouldn't take it off, because it was my fault for not flagging someone down. "We always get you people in here, trying to get free food". I wouldn't recommend this place to my worst enemy. The owner, an old blonde white lady (my apologies for description I wasn't provided a name), was HIGHLY disrespectful & treated us with disgust to a point where EVEN the TWO waitresses that were witnesses to the situation came over and apologized multiple times including when my sister walked out of the restaurant because of how she was treated. The request was simple. Eggs were ordered but were asked to be placed on a separate plate DUE TO ALLERGY (upon placing order) when the food was brought to the table, the eggs were on the same plate. My sister said "to the owner who was carrying the food" i asked for the eggs to be on a side plate can you please bring me a new plate. The manager instantly started yelling and raising her voice saying it's our policy and we don't do separate plates and started getting very rude and hostile to us. She proceeded to argue while the other servers were trying to figure out what was going on & correct the situation. She then walked away after telling us it's our fault we didn't get it on separate plate because we should have told them it was an allergy (which we did) then she would have done it. The owner then walks away (still waiting on the box which we requested when we were denied the food he remade DUE TO ALLERGY and our other food to be brought to the table) and two other servers come over. One of which who was very apologetic and said that they don't have a separate plate policy and the other who instantly said they would remake the food but that she knows for a fact she requested it to be put on a separate plate when she put the order in the system. The owner never once apologized, she never corrected the situation and in fact she proceeded to sit at a table by the front entrance / register with the men and talk about my family and the situation until she was confronted again. I will be reaching out to all media sites, the health department, better business bureau and any source until this place is shut down. The ATMOSPHERE is horrendous and it's a shame that the employees have to deal with this type of abuse and disrespect. Employees from the establishment came out and spoke with us while we were outside waiting for the rest of our family to pay the bill and finish to tell us their experiences with this woman. This place is one of our go-to places whenever we have out of town guests and whenever we feel like getting some great breakfast foods. It offers a unique experience of being able to see planes take off and land while enjoying your egg omelette in an air conditioned dining area (it is Florida after all...). It does have a covered outdoor dining area as well if you have a large party or want a better view of the planes (it certainly keeps kids entertained). The food is served in large portions and very much in a diner style (nothing fancy, but tasty and cooked fresh). There's usually a plane parked on the side where you can see a 2-seater propeller plane up close. The people that work at the airstrip are friendly and will sometimes give you some history of the planes as well. Overall, its a cool local dining experience... It can be a little hard to find as most GPS sort of only bring you to general vicinity, but if you see my tip, you'll have no trouble finding it. read more

Every day I pass the "Happy Hangar Cafe" signs on State Road 54. Today we decided to investigate and see what the cafe had to offer. I knew that the North Tampa Aero Park was located off of Birdsong Boulevard but did not know they had a restaurant. This place is not easy to locate. Seems as if you are going in circles but you will eventually find it at the very end of the runway of the flight center. You know you are going in the right direction when you see homes built on the runway with their planes parked in the back of the house (that was a first for me). The cafe looks brand new. There were not many people dining -- seems to be a hidden treasure. They are open Tuesday through Sunday from 7 am to 2 pm. Serve breakfast all day but also serve appetizers and lunch. Hubby and I were instantly greeted by a very nice server named Kathy. Told her this was our first visit and she explained the menu to us. We made a suggestion that the there needed to be better signage to find the cafe. She says the owner is working on it and hopefully they have signs up in the near future. We ordered the Huge Hangar Breakfast (3 eggs any style, 2 strips of bacon, 2 sausage patties, a slice of ham, home fries and/or grits, and a freshly baked biscuit with sausage gravy). Enough for two people to share. Everything was pipping hot and fresh. I was not too crazy about the sausage gravy -- was a little salty for my taste, but overall a very good meal. This area of Wesley Chapel/Lutz needs some more breakfast options and we found our new "go to" restaurant to satisfy our morning hunger. This used to be our favorite breakfast place, but we won't be coming here anymore. The prices have gone very high, and the food on the plate has shrunk! Additionally, they no longer will honor coupons that were purchased through restaurants.com, though they say they don't expire. The service was absolutely horrible! They took 15 minutes to just get our drink order and had to add our food order. Other tables that put in their orders after us got their food before us. I have nothing positive to say about this place. Gravely disappointed. read more

we've been meaning to try it, finally gave it a go this morning as we didn't have out daughters with us. I got the western omelet with grits and a biscuit, my husband got their biscuits & gravy, eggs and bacon. my omelet... meh, okay with the inside bits being cold, grits were great, and the biscuit was good (def home made). the biscuits & gravy were really good! stole 2 bites from my husband to be sure I liked them ;) saw another table get a Cuban sandwich while we were waiting for our food and it looked like a great lunch option - looks lie they do them right, pressing them to get a nice crunch :) we will be back. great little place to bring kids, has a couple of picnic tables up on the porch, right next to the runway and a bunch of parked planes. read more

Let's face it... I think people go more for the environment than the actual food. The restaurant is small. They have 2 large picnic tables on the property. You can view planes landing and taking off while you're eating which is super cool. The strawberry guava stuffed french toast is very good and has a crunchy coating on the outside. I went with a group and they all got their food first. My two side items came out with theirs, but I still had to wait another 5 minutes for my french toast to come out. The coffee is luke warm when served, not a fan. The servers are attentive though and come by often to refill your coffee cup. My main concern was that the little plastic bowl that held the creamers was DISGUSTING. I'm assuming one or several of the creamers opened up in the bowl, who knows how long ago...the bottom of the bowl was completely dried up and crusty. My partner ordered a half order of biscuits and gravy. Her review is "that the gravy was really good and has pieces of sausage in it". Overall, I think people should at least check this place out once. I think that management could make more improvements with the cleanliness of the restaurant. read more

We found the Happy Hangar on our way to Dade City (read: wasteland for foodies). The food is typical diner food- no real maple syrup (only high fructose corn syrup), mostly tasteless eggs (NOT all natural), frozen commercial potato cubes, and standard fare pork products. The biscuits were passable but not what I'd consider outstanding. In sum, better than starving. BUT, this place is literally located on the runway of the Tampa North Aero Park. On a beautiful morning like today it's pretty fantastic to be able to watch the small planes take off- especially for airplane junkies like my husband, and budding airplane junkies like our 3 year old daughter. I took my kids here for lunch during spring break. I've been wanting to try this place for a long time. They are open for breakfast and lunch, closing at two. We were there during the week about an hour before closing and there were still about 4 tables full. I imagine on the weekends it would get pretty busy. We each ordered a little something different but all portions were a good size nonetheless. I went for the spinach omelette which came with grits and toast. The omelette and the grits were very filling. The toast was a little stale and I was given white instead of wheat. I wasn't too worried about it though since I was full off the other two items. My son ordered the $100 burger (no it's not $100) and it was HUGE and cooked perfectly! He opted for the onion rings which I have to say were the best onion rings I probably ever had. Not only were they crispy, but the onion did not pull out of the fried outside. Instead, it melted in your mouth. My daughter got the grilled chicken sandwich which she did say had good flavor despite the chicken portion inside the bread being too small for the bun. Her side salad was large, fresh and crisp. The person at the table next to us ordered a pancake and it was overlapping the size of the plate! Definitely something to try next ime. Overall, it was a good experience at this place and nice to see a small place that is tucked away in a residential subdivision doing so well.
