I've been a long-time fan of Happy/Little Lamb many years before this location opened. Since their first day over 10 years ago, lines are out the door for dinner. I would give up every other hot pot and kbbq place to eat their lamb slices, dumplings, and meatballs for life. Food quality and service has always been top notch and I was sad to see their business diminish over the years. As of 2024, all Happy Lamb locations have adopted an all-you-can eat model, varying across locations and states (as far as I can tell). And while I think AYCE was the right business move, it certainly changed how I feel about this place. Happy Lamb used to feel like a place where you get special treatment with high quality food. Now it's extremely crowded. Over 20 minutes of waiting before a receptionist showed up. Neon birthday signs. Really, really annoying children nursery music. Kids running around. AYCE self-serving bar for anything besides beef. No more drinks, just diluted fountain soda. This model caters to Chinese immigrants, and that's exactly what the clientele has turned into. The meat is still great, but it's a little less appetizing when you have to pick up seafood and veggies fondled by everyone else, especially when you have to fight your way through a crowd every time. They got rid of some things like the lamb pancakes and lamb meatballs, but now they have fried chicken, egg rolls, and fried mochi desserts. Some of the servers have worked here for over 10 years and I love them, and the quality of food. But in terms of environment, it's no longer my favorite place. read more

My family and I enjoy coming here often for AYCE hot pot! The price is so very worth the meal. They have a lunch special for ~$20, and dinner is $30-35 depending on if you get the premium. There typically isn't a wait on the weekdays. The amount of side dishes and vegetables is very generous. You can also opt to pay a bit extra for soda / ice cream. There was plenty of meats to choose from including beef tongue, fish, shrimp, lamb, and pork. The cuts were all pretty good quality as well. We usually get the half and half soup base , which allows us to have more flavors. However, the spicy isn't spicy at all. The service was exceptional. They were constantly refilling our soup and were quick to deliver the meats. They were super accommodating and were able to squeeze my friends of 4 with my party when it was already really busy. This is my absolute favorite AYCE hotpot place in the tri-Valley! Their food ingredients are all great quality and the prices are unbeatable! They have $19.99/person all you can eat lunch special during Mon-Fri which is such a steal!! If you come on a Friday lunch, be sure to get there before opening to get a spot otherwise the wait will be 1.5 hours. People start lining up at least 30min prior to the lunch openings. If you get there about 15min prior to opening, you should be safe and be able to get in the first crowd. The restaurant itself is very nice and beautifully redone in the interiors. Seats and comfy and decor is modern. Service is good considering how busy it is. The servers are always on the go and working at 100mph. It's impressive to see how crazy busy right at opening it is and the wait staff is able to handle all the customers all at once. The meats and soup may come a bit slowly because of how busy it is, but I don't mind. If you are in a rush, this would not be the place to go for lunch. Expect to spend 1.5 - 2 hours for lunch here. Now the actual food is amazing. There are 2 selections of beef and 2 selections lambs. I always forget which is which but one is more fatty and soft than the other. Try both! There are other options too like pork that we haven't tried before. The vegetable bar has a selection of napa cabbage, bok choy and other yummy leafy greens not to pass up! There is an extensive self service counter with all sorts of hotpot ingredients such as fish balls, tofus, seaweed, squash, clear noodles, etc. Lastly there is an appetizer/sides counter with a selection of delicious sides including fried rice, chow mein, egg rolls, sesame red bean balls, and sweet breads with condensed milk. Came here on a cold rainy day and this was one of the best bang for your buck ayce hot pot places I have been to. They have a wide variety of vegetable selection to choose from as well as meat dishes. Another plus about this place is that they allow for split soup options which let you choose 2 different kinds of broths. I also really liked the appetizer options to eat from when you just cannot wait for the meats to arrive. Overall the meats felt very high quality and tasted tender enough to enjoy for multiple rounds. Their broths also made the overall experience much more pleasant. They took down the divider between two of the tables and sat us so we had access to the burners across the two tables. We went for an early dinner on the weekday, so this is probably how they were able to give us two tables. But we really appreciate them doing this when they did not need to. They have changed the format from a few months ago, so most of the appetizers (chicken wings, dumplings, eggrolls) and things for the hotpot that are not meat (noodles, tofu, fish balls, vegetables, sauces) are buffet style, and you get everything you want yourself at the counters. The meats can be ordered 3 plates at a time and it is all you can eat. I had the pot with the tomato base and the standard base, and we added chili oil, soy sauce, and onions. It was delicious and I will definitely return. Not thrilled about the food being next to the front door and by high traffic area. However, I'm quite impressed by the variety of choices- lots of veggies, meatballs varieties, seafoods, noodles. We had the mushroom broth and the original broth. The original was more medicinal. We ordered mostly the beef meats. One was super lean and the other was super fatty. But generous portions. The restaurant itself appeared pretty clean and new. The dishes, bowls, spoons were not very clean. The plates were on the lower half of the buffet tables. The bowls that were left at the sauce table all had some spots on it. I had to resort to the smaller sauce bowls. The soup spoon they gave me had some garlic in it. I'm usually not that picky about these things if it's just 1 dirty item. But there were too many to overlook. Service was ok. They were busy, so standard mediocre Asian buffet service. 3.5 stars. I was surprised to see how this Happy Lamb had a lot more options at the salad bar than others. They even have free soda and soft serve which was nice. It's $28.99 per person for the non-premium dinner option. What I didn't like about this location is how they charge each individual sauce for $1, and the salad bar area is super cramped and narrow. The placement of the salad bar area is very poor, it's right near the entrance so a lot of people are coming and going, on top of people trying to get their food. I don't understand why it wasn't placed more closer to the dining area. Also, the plates and bowls at the salad bar are located kind of low on the bar, and I was taken aback when I saw someone's kid standing on the area where the plates were... As for service, the waiters didn't check up on us and didn't refill our broth, but they were friendly when we flagged them down. Complaints aside, I enjoyed the best of both worlds hot pot, and the meats we ordered were pretty good. I really enjoyed the Kurobuta pork slices. Such a disappointment ! My rating is not for the food. My rating is based on service and service only. We called over a week in advance for table of 12 and the Gluten accommodations which they agreed and we appreciate it so much. We also followed up with confirmation call. However on the day of arrival we were sat and then two minutes later we were kicked out of our 2 tables seating sections that we reserved to accommodate an Asian family. We we're literally crammed onto one table. I couldn't believe this. Not only was this a fire hazard as we were blocking the walkway. We had no room to eat move or enjoy our meal. The Asian family was also served drinks and orders prior to us. I just couldn't believe they were making us squeeze in this table we literally had five people to one hot pot and didn't even have enough time or room to cook our food because there were so many people to one pot. Yes there were 5 people to each pot!!!!! We had gluten and seafood allergies which we called about and they said no problem!!! It was a disaster!!!!! It just didn't seem right to me as my first time here. It was my birthday so I wasn't trying to make a big deal of it, but it just seemed so wrong to me in so many ways. I felt they seen we were a black family and immediately treated us differently and didn't want us to take up the 2 spaces. The food was really great. I have no problem there. I just wish it was a different experience for all of us. The great plus side was that my meal was free because it was my birthday and I appreciate that. However the lady with the long hair with a ton of energy that runs around with the servers that don't speak English really needs some business skills unless you only want to cater to Asian families. There is so much to choose from! You can either get them from the self serve counter or order their special cuts from the server. The service for the past two visits were also great. Everyone is always busy but accommodating for any assistance needed by their customers. For 30$ I think you will get your money's worth. If you love hot pot and AYCE, this is a solid choice. Solid AYCE hotpot place. Not fantastic, but you gotta set your expectations correctly for the east bay. They currently offer the basic menu for $20 (for lunch) and $29 (for dinner), and the premium menu for $36 (both dinner and lunch). We got here on a cold Sunday night around 5:30pm and arrived at the same time as 2 other parties! Shortly afterwards, a huge line formed by the door. So certainly going earlier is better. They have an iPad at the front with Yelp waitlist -- sign your party up there since they seem to go by the waitlist even when the restaurant is not completely full. General info: Tons of parking in the parking lot out front so no need to worry about that. However, this restaurant is not nearly as big as it needs to be, especially in the communal areas where people are getting food (especially because the entrance line ALSO forms around there if it's cold out and everyone wants to wait inside). Additionally, stands are put up next to each table to hold their meat, so you have to channel your inner temple run whenever you walk from your table to the self-serve area. It's not terrible, just slightly uncomfortable and you may have to wait a couple minutes to get your items. Service: The service is polite and attentive (they asked us multiple times if we needed meat). Not terribly friendly, but that's not what I need from a hotpot restaurant. Food: We always get the best of both worlds broth selection because we love the spicy broth flavor, but need to balance it out occasionally with the original. The AYCE includes a decent amount of food included some cooked food like fried chicken, egg fried rice, etc. Lots of veggies and mushrooms too, and I love the quail eggs + all the different tofu options. They include marinated garlic beef in that area, so don't waste one of your 3 meat plate orders on that item. The dessert area consisted of sesame balls (quite dry), fried mantou with condensed milk (not bad), and a soft serve ice cream machine with chocolate, mixed, and vanilla flavors. I got the mixed flavor and it was very icy. My husband said the vanilla was creamier. We never got the premium meats so I'm not sure how that section pans out, but we've been happy with the meats we've gotten on the basic menu (we've only tried the beef, pork, and lamb). I would not advise getting the "special lamb bone" for the actual meat, because the meat consists of just whatever tiny flecks of meat didn't come off whenever they cooked it earlier. If you're just getting it to put in your soup for flavor, then go for it! read more

We basically had 2 types of Broths simmering. One was spicy and the other one was the basic broth. We had 2 places we can pick out our veggies and proteins like squids; Fish / Shrimp balls and a separate place for sauces and condiments. Bamboo shoots and spices and bean sprouts among different sauces and chili oils. There was also a Self serve soda fountain and a soft serve dessert machine. We ordered a bunch of different types of meat and protein like Lamb, Beef Wagu, Pork belly, and Tofu to name a few. We ordered a bunch of different things and even had custard balls and soft serve for desserts. I mainly stuck to Shrimp balls, Gyozas/ Potstickers with a little chili oil. The restaurant is also a little small for everything that's squeezed into the place. Very easy to bump into wait staff or other customers. As someone plant-based, I was pleasantly surprised at how filling and satisfying my experience at Happy Lamb ended up being. I came here with my parents for a weekday lunch, and having it be $20 per person is an absolute steal in this economy. We did have to wait 45 minutes for a table arriving at 12:00 (half an hour after opening), but that only made us hungrier. They do offer snacks, tea, and self-serve ice cream as you wait. Once you sat down, you order via a paper menu. You can select your base (with the option of two stocks), your assorted meats and veggies, and someone will come around to take your order. I was very impressed with the quality of their greens: fresh baby bok choy, yue choy, broccoli, and napa cabbage. They offer oyster and wood-ear mushrooms, with the former being sliced too thinly in my opinion. However, I was impressed with their wrapped seaweed bundles, frozen and fresh tofu options (both were fabulous), and a variety of noodles including wide mung bean noodles and fresh pulled noodles. For dessert, they offer sesame balls and fried buns (the former being accidentally vegan). A great way to end the meal. Sauces do cost extra at 70cents for each - a bit strange but I relied on the tomato stock and veggies to fill me up. Hot pot was something I never thought I'd get to enjoy anymore but I had a blast consuming all the fresh veggies, tofu, tubers, and noods that my stomach could contain. Get your lamb on at Happy Lamb Hot Pot, boom! The unfortunate affair that our primary restaurant is packed (Mayflower) for hours turned into a gem of a find by the way of Happy Lamb Hot Pot. Kudos for Happy Lamb, your undeniable AYCE banner outside drew us in like a moth to a flame. The whiff of cumin and other spices as we enter the restaurant was really mouthwatering. Our party of 10 were promptly seated on a Sunday lunch time. We were pretty hungry by then, so we pretty much ordered everything in the menu. Us carnivores had our duo of house and spicy broth. My sister, who is a vegetarian, had her mushroom and tomato broth as well. Man, if the skewers were also present (lamb!), I afraid Happy Lamb would have gotten a perfect score. The ribeye meat was awesome, so is their venerable lamb. The runaway hits were the Fish ball with roe, Tripe, and Tendon. Those tendons! So soft and creamy. Their spicy broth was such a killer. It has the proper amount of heat and the assortment of chinese spices really brings this broth into the nth dimension of flavor. Love love love coming here to eat. Came here for a celebration and the service changed a bit.. felt rushed.. we were not even on our second round of meat ordering and they handed us the check. LOL......... then when we did ask them for more meat they seemed a bit irritated.. service has gone down for this place but the food is still amazing. They changed where they place all the sauce bar and other food. Over great food, clean place. Service just needs to be better. read more
