Happy to see a restaurant that allows dogs indoors !! So rare. I enjoyed the options at the sauce/snack bar but it's an additional charge . Includes fruit (watermelon & wintermelon), jelly desserts, and snacks like peanuts, seaweed, and pickled veggies. We opted for a half&half hotpot (the spicy butter & mushroom). They had a buy 1 get 1 free option for meat orders which was nice. Meat seemed fine. However all of us (party of 3) ended up with stomach issues and diarrhea after our meal. Not sure if the spice was just too overpowering or if something was off. This is definitely not my first rodeo of having spicy hotpot and I have never gotten diarrhea afterwards so I'm leaning more towards something being off here. My friends and I got half & half with the traditional Chongqing butter style broth and pickled cabbage with pork bone broth. For the spice level, my friend and I thought we could totally handle the mild spicy. It was quite numbing for sure, and I wish we would've ordered light spicy. The other broth was quite sour and not my favorite. They had buy 1 get 1 free for meat, and we thought ordering 3 different meats would result in the free one of our choosing. However, they automatically brought a free plate of each meat we ordered. There was a bit of language barrier, but fortunately one of our friends spoke the same language to explain the confusion and how we didn't need 6 plates of meat. I think this is my new hotpot place to go after the previous one dropped in quality. Parking is in the rear, and was easy for us at 6PM on a Friday night. We were seated instantly, but there was a small line by the time we left at 7. Some tips on what to look for in a good hotpot place: -They bring the pot up with solidified hotpot base so you know it's not reused or watered down. Just cubes of butter and beef fat mixed with a spicy broth. -When refilling broths, they use separate water kettles because each broth is unique. If they use the same kettle for 2 different broth flavors, you know the flavors will get watered down with time. -For authentic Chengdu hotpot, you need a can of sesame oil on the side. It's used for lowering the spice levels while making every dipped meat more "fragrant". It's different from the OTC sesame oil you find in supermarkets. -The "weirder" the menu items, the more authentic. Frog legs, intestines, and dare I say pig brain? We ordered a half and half with mild spicy and tomato broth. This place gets pretty spicy, so I definitely recommend toning down the spice unless you're a fiend. The sauce bar is $2.75/pp, and has fresh fruits, fried chicken, and other dishes that rotate depending on availability. The meat quality is really good, and prices are fair for a la carte. Let's just say hotpot, when done correctly, is not the stereotypical cheap chinese meal. My favorite meats were the frog legs and spicy beef that's cooked. The decor is very, very nostalgic. Everything down to the tables and chairs and utensils are reminiscent of the 1980s in China, which I loved. It's very similar to a few hotpot places I've been to in Sichuan. I loved seeing the posters and pictures of a bygone era. If you decide to come, get a half and half pot, and make sure use the sesame oil in a bowl with garlic, cilantro, and green onion! read more

I have no idea how they did it but it is a new texture you will enjoy.
