I LOVE me some good bubble tea. And Bellevue was definitely in need of one! This is a place where you can't go just once. They have soooo many different options and variety that you look at the menu and want one of each. They have the option of medium or large. You can modify the amount of ice and how sweet your beverage is. They also have add-ins of course, like pudding, tapioca or taro boba. May i put in that this place is very small. The decor is extremely cute. I love the color yellow. The line every time that I've come has been out the door. But don't let that stop you from coming or getting anything because they are super quick and will have your drink out in no time. The gal who helped us, Autumn was a pleasure. Especially when it's a busy day. The lines can get unorganized and there's a lot of people pushing, struggling to get out. However the decor was simple and cute. Nothing too crazy or too plain. The menu has a variety of teas you can choose from, even ones with cheese in them. I decided to order A1 and B3, but sadly I was unhappy as they got my order wrong and ordered me a B1 instead. Happy lemon is a good spot for boba but every time I have their milk tea I never feel too good afterwards. Don't know if it's directly related to their drink or maybe just a coincidence. The milk tea just has a very thick feeling -although it's very tasty- and towards the second half of the drink it just feels uneasy to drink. I usually go for half sugar on the classic milk tea and it still feels kinda sweet, I would recommend maybe 30% sugar to those who are not a huge fan of super sweet things like me. But the bubble waffles are really nice and crispy! Not the best place for a satisfying boba crave and the lines are always super long. In fact it's a lot more chewy so if that's the type of boba you like then this is great for you. The classic milk tea was typical exactly what you would expect from it but tasted fresh. I opted for a Yakult jasmine green tea lemonade & a plain bubble waffle. The wait was close to 20min. No waiting room really and lots of confusion. After collecting my drink and fresh off the iron waffle I left to enjoy my treat outside of the noisy snake pit. The waffle was a good mixture of chewy and crunchy. After spending the majority of the past four years in LA, I haven't been able to find a good boba joint in Bellevue that lives up to the stuff in SoCal. Happy Lemon comes quite close, offering a wide array of high quality milk teas and fruit teas. I got the classic milk tea with boba and puff cream. The black tea was aromatic, and the boba had just the right amount of chewiness and sweetness. The puff cream was very rich and salty, and I would've liked a bit more--they only brush it around the interior of the cup. My friend got the freshly squeezed lemon black tea and enjoyed it, she had originally wanted to get a milk tea, but they didn't offer non-dairy substitutes at that time. Hopefully that has changed since. FYI, the font for their storefront menu is cutesy, but difficult to read while waiting in line. Today was the first completely unacceptable waffle I was served. Doughy, half cooked, soggy and disgusting- I didn't think it was possible for the bubble waffle I loved so much to be disgusting. Well, I went back right away to ask for a replacement waffle and the clerk had the nerve to tell me "that's normal"- ummm nope, I've had dozens of these cooked perfectly. Happy Lemon is currently my favorite bubble tea place in the greater Seattle area (well, Bellevue). Milk tea with taro balls is my go-to since the taro balls last a long time if I don't drink all of it in one day. I'm a little disappointed today because I got the black tea with rock salt cream and they used a dome lid... I'm assuming the sipping lid is out but it defeats the purpose of it for me - You can't get the bits of cream and tea with a straw without moving the now-sticky straw up and down the cup. I wouldn't have ordered it if I knew the lids were out - that's how serious I am. So I hope the employees will let customers know next time. Love happy lemon milk tea and bubble waffles! I am however put off by my last experience here due to unsanitary practices. The gal making bubble waffles was wearing clear gloves, but she was touching the counter, curtains to the kitchen, everything with it and then using the same gloves to handle the bubble waffles while they cool next to the fan.
