I will take off 1 star because when I went the a/c was broken and it was in the triple digits, unfortunately that's not safe for staff or customers and they probably shouldn't have been open. This place has sadly gone downhill. Customer service no longer exists and the past few workers we have encountered on different occasions have been rude. We stopped by last night about an hour before closing time and music was blasting loud as we walked in. We went straight to the kiosk to place our orders and saw that we could no longer place bubble waffle orders on here as they said "sold out." We asked the kid working if we could still order and he took a glance at that time and managed to just say "ya." He came on over to the register and took our orders, unhappy. The waffles took a bit but we were fine with waiting as we know they take some time to make. More customers walked in after us and he again gave them the same crappy attitude he gave us..... Definitely some mixed experiences here at this Chandler location. I have visited a couple of times over the past few years and noticed that depending on the day, I will have vastly different drink/boba quality and wait times. I commend the staff who seem to be holding it down solo on weekdays, but it sort of seems like they're not able to keep up with busier days (e.g. holidays like spring break), especially when they only have one person making all the drinks + the food. I wasn't in a rush this day, so I went in for my regular choice- the strawberry green tea, half sweet, with boba. I waited over 15 minutes for my drink, which was quite a wait for a boba shop on a weekday afternoon in my opinion. The drink itself, tea-wise was great like always, but I did notice this time the boba was quite hard and tasted kind of burnt in the inside. The barista recommended the salted plum seasoning and I'm so glad I listened, it's salty and sweet and not just only pure chili heat like so many other restaurants sell! You can actually modify your drinks here (you can adjust your sugar level), they also have some refreshers. I also like the self order kiosk they have, as my husband is introvert he love that too. Upon walking in, you're hit with the most foul smell of your life. The smell of sewage crawls into your nose and refuses to leave. Happy Lemon is my favorite boba place back in Washington. I would frequent the Bellevue and the issaquah location 1-2 times a week so I was very excited to hear of the Chandler location opening up. The menu is sadly different and I was missing some of my favorite drinks from this location but still happy to see the bubble waffles in both flavors were available. Ordering on their portal was easy enough. Staff were friendly. Store looked clean. I ordered the milk tea with Oreo, puff cream and boba. The matcha is very subtle for the mango smoothie, it's mostly mango. Their mango yakult reminds me of an orange dreamsicle sweetness. I have a sweet tooth, so I really like these drinks but they are on the pricier side. Their boba is also good if you like the soft chewy type. The milk tea was so-so for me, not that flavorful or sweet, but decent. There's some places to sit and a self serve kiosk at this location that helps with the line. This place is good but it's not the best and def not worth standing in a long line for. I laughed when I walked by and saw the long lines. Found out this place just opened over the weekend so stopped by today to try it. No long lines today! Only about 3 people before me so the wait to order and receiving the drinks wasn't too long. Staff was friendly and you can tell they are working hard to get the orders out as quickly as possible. The interior is was cute, simple and clean. They only have one size for drinks here. They do offer many drink options with different topping options as well, for an additional charge. Like with many places now, you can also adjust sugar and ice levels too. They have some food here but I didn't try any. Ordered: - Ube milk tea w/ taro cream puff (no boba, 1/2 sugar) - Kumquat lemon green tea w/lychee jelly (+boba, 25% sugar) Ube milk tea wasn't bad. Think I should've tried a regular milk tea first though. The other drink wasn't for me but I was told it was missing the lychee jelly. This is just based on my first visit. The place is small and just enough room for a small crowd. I have been wanting to try this place and finally did! I tried some of the popular/recommended (starred) items on the menu. I did the self order since the staff were busy making drinks. I ordered the strawberry shortcake smoothie at 50% sweetness and a mango lemon drink. While waiting you can check to see where your order is in que, which is kind of nice. I was smelling the delicious bubble waffle and wished I ordered it but was short on time. Got my drinks to go and tasted both of them right away. Strawberry shortcake tastes exactly how it sounds and the sweetness level was just right for me. The mango lemonade was yikes for me. I couldn't find the sugar level adjuster on the self order or missed it in a hurry. But the mango lemon at 100% I could only sip 2 sips. It was too strong and I didn't taste any mango whatsoever. We have gone twice now, we are usually a fan of Happy Lemon as we used to live in Washington state where there are many. Both times walking in we were met with no one for about 6-8 min. They do have a self order screen but it wasn't very clear the first time we went. The floors are rather disgusting both times we went (like a dirty mop wiped over the whole floor and left dirt streaks) and the bathrooms were terribly gross. Also no toilet paper or paper towels at like noon when they've only been open for about an hour? Looked like they rarely cleaned them. The first time we got boba drinks they were good and we had no issues. Second time we had some problems, my husbands drink tasted rather chemically and almost spoiled? Either way we threw it out shortly after leaving since we didn't taste in until we left. Mine had really hard almost crystallized fragments of boba that felt like plastic. I didn't feel safe drinking it anymore after getting several pieces like that. So it was a bummer. I think the cleanliness ruined it for us mostly. I ordered the Fresh Lemon Black Tea half sweet and my brother got the Fresh Lemon Green Tea half sweet. Mine tasted like an elevated version of an Arnold Palmer, the green tea version was a lot lighter and had a stronger lemon taste. The tea flavor was pretty good and I like how they use fresh lemons instead of syrup. However, for $6 without toppings, I felt like it was pretty overpriced for what it was. I still enjoyed my drink, but I don't think I would come back very often. It's a good refreshing drink for summer, but nothing too crazy that I wouldn't be able to make something similar at home. Overall 3.5 stars, but you can't do half star ratings with reviews. My partner and I tend to stop in when we're in the area as we do like the drinks and food. Service is on the slower side especially when they're busy. My partner and I always use the digital kiosk for our orders, but you can order directly with a cashier too. The drinks themselves are on the more expensive end for boba, but they're consistent. I would say Happy Lemon's sweetness levels are just right at 50% for their drinks. I've been to other boba shops where 50% is way too sweet for me. You can't go wrong with any of the popcorn chicken and bubble waffle flavors. The fried tofu is fine, but the tofu itself isn't marinated on the inside, so all the flavor is more concentrated on the crust on the outside. The food is made fresh so it can be hot! If we order food, our average wait time on a not so busy day is about 15 minutes. We've waited up to 30 minutes before during busier times. There's some seating indoors, but it can get cramped when it's busy. I've also felt that the tables were usually dirty whenever I've gone. Happy Lemon can be a good stop for when you start or end your shopping in the plaza, but due to slower service, you do want to take wait times into consideration if you're on a schedule. read more
