My favs were the Ginza Roll and Ken's Roll. The Lettuce Roll was close behind, but texturally, the lettuce wasn't jiving for me. The soy paper was perfect for the rest of the roll. An underrated gem! I wonder why this place doesn't have as many customers as it should. Their lunch specials/combos are so worth it. Love the udon + roll combo. The extra tempura is worth getting too! Plus, the people there are nice. Their sushi and food overall is very clean and fresh. I came here pretty often when I was in Gardena for a period of time. I'm honestly disgusted by my experience at Happy Sushi. The salmon they served me was mushy, slimy, and completely inedible. It was clearly not right, and it never should have been brought to the table in the first place. What made the whole thing even worse was our server, Paul Kim. When I brought up the issue and asked if the dish could be replaced or comped, he was rude, dismissive, and had a terrible attitude. Instead of trying to make things right, he acted like I was the problem for not wanting to eat bad salmon. The service was awful from start to finish. Between the inedible food and Paul Kim's behavior, this was one of the worst dining experiences I've had in a long time. If you're going to serve sushi, the bare minimum is fresh, edible fish and basic customer service. Happy Sushi failed at both. As fish ages, the flesh can lose its firm structure and start feeling soft, wet, and unpleasant. Extension and food-safety sources note that poor handling and delayed chilling can lead to a soft, open texture, and warm temperatures speed spoilage. Food-storage guidance identifies slime on the surface of meat as a spoilage sign that makes food unpalatable, and with fish that's absolutely a red flag from a diner's perspective. Even if it wasn't dangerous, it still suggests the product was not in good condition to serve. The salmon had a broken-down texture that was mushy and slimy, which strongly suggested poor freshness, poor storage, or mishandling.
