As I was handing over my credit card, the owner snatched the card out of my hand, and then also snatched the charge slip from my hand. I found the manner in which this was done extremely rude, unnecessary, and disrespectful. As a Black customer, I have unfortunately experienced situations where I have questioned whether the treatment I received was influenced by my race. I cannot say for certain what motivated the behavior we experienced at Golden Palace, but I can say that the way we were treated left us feeling uncomfortable, unwelcome, and disrespected. I stopped by Happy Wok for a quick dinner after work and it hit the spot. The food was good with really large portions definitely enough for a full meal (or leftovers). The chow mein had nice soft noodles and was loaded with cabbage, which I liked. The fried rice was solid and standard. The orange chicken was tasty but could have been a little more crispy still perfectly fine though. The standout for me was the BBQ pork: it had a really nice charred flavor and the bits of fat on the meat made it extra flavorful and juicy. Overall, Happy Wok isn't gourmet Chinese, but it's exactly what you want for a satisfying, no-fuss meal. Perfect for a quick lunch or picking something up on the way home from work or school.
