The manager seemed to to good as she actually took the order. But the avocado appetizer came,.it was awesome btw!!! The server took it away when it was half way eaten and tossed it! She brought first entre , no problem maybe just being rapid. 25 minutes later the entre still not at table. Wow, I talked to the server and she went crazy!!! She was talking all kinds of racial things unbelievable, seriously, five minutes later the manager came to deal with situation. She was fine , but obviously obviously a racist too. She refused to refund the ticket, then after another 10 minutes refunded half, then after another confrontation, finally refunded it all which I asked her not to. I told her not to refund any tabc obligations and not to the avacoda ever since it got removed from table. She was extremely upset and untrained. It was not her fault at all. The kitchen staff were not doing their job and were dancing around and the service staff is terrible. Super excited that HappyRito opened up. I've been looking for an Asian-Cajun crawfish restaurant for awhile, and this might be my go-to this crawfish season. Their flavors are pretty flavorful, but not very spicy. Given that it's still early in the crawfish season, the mud bugs were a bit small. Hopefully they'll get bigger as the season continues. Unlike a lot of other Cajun boil restaurants, HappyRito is very clean and decorated in a trendy fashion. There is also a wide selection of alcoholic beverages (including soju!) and non-alcoholic beverages (thai tea to limeades). Very friendly servers and food came out very quickly as well. They provide you with both gloves and bibs! The only con is that you have to get a minimum of 3lbs of crawfish so make sure you come with a big appetite or a friend. I visited the latest Cajun seafood restaurant that opened. Seems like we have a new one every month. It is located outside the Lakeline Mall near Texican Cafe. When I first walked in, I was hit in the face with an overwhelming spice smell. It was so powerful, I started to cough. Thought it may be seasoning they are using in the back. But I found when the waitress moved away from me, the smell started to go away. So it could have been her perfume. Ordered the shrimp basket and was never asked if I wanted a large or small so she rung up the large. She did ask if I want tartar sauce or cocktail sauce. I said one of each. Nope. I could only get one. (Geez, for the price I was charged I could only have one small container!) I paid about $17.50 and sat to wait. Soon my order is ready. Once home I opened my lunch. The first thing I noticed was my roll was smashed. Crushed in the center and it felt hard like it was old. So that got tossed. There were about 8 shrimp in the container. Loads of crinkle cut fries and a small half cup of salad. No offense but I would have traded the fries for more salad. Oh, yes. The weird part, there were pickles on top of the salad. I ate my shrimp and it was cooked correctly but was bland. I dipped it in the small tartar sauce and it was better. Next up were the crinkle cut fries. Soft not crunchy seasoned with parmesan and garlic. They tasted pretty much like a store bought bag of fries and not cooked long enough. Now the salad was very tasty even with the pickles on top. I ordered 20 lbs of crawfish for my friends. They told us about their special which was 10lbs for $88.88 but it didn't come with sausage, corn and potatoes. We opted out and ended up ordering 4 trays of 5lbs since it came with the sides. The crawfish were pretty tiny for it being in season. We ordered the Happy style which is cajun seasoning and garlic butter flavors and half spicy, half mild. I've tried a few crawfish places in Austin and there are few that have good Viet/Cajun style crawfish. HappyRito is one of them. It still doesn't beat crawfish places in Houston but close enough! For pricing I would say it was decent and in line with pricing in Houston. Only complaint was that I wish the crawfish trays came with more corn, sausage and potatoes. The only thing I would say is it came out not warm or hot.. just room temperature... that's my only complaint. The garlic Parmesan chicken bites was good with the garlic dipping sauce ! Any warm feelings I would've had about the food were consumed by the absolutely abysmal service and experience we had here. Came on a Sunday evening and it was slammed, we put our name down for a table, our quoted 30+ min wait came and went, and then we went and checked only to find out people were just seating themselves and we put our name down for nothing. We finally grabbed an empty table, and then 10 mins later the dude finally remembers we put our name down. Ordering was confusing and could be done at the front or via QR code, we paid for drinks via the QR code but there was no indication of where to get cups and we ended up paying for drinks AGAIN at the front. I know the girl serving and bussing the tables was working her butt off, but I only saw a few others and no contact with other staff. The food really was decent and I would've liked to try more but I don't think I can handle coming back if the cost is bad service. read more

Actually answering my own question! When you order you can control everything according to your taste! We will likely return tomorrow for our Lenten Friday Supper. I am having a Strawberry Margarita, a Bird's Nest- ( avacado and crab meat salad) and a cup of Dad's Gumbo! Gumbo is fantastic! Sooooo tasty. Perfect fresh cooked veggies, including carrots, okra, green pepper, chicken ( might be canned) , slices of spicy sausage- the base is what is so darn delicious-I think I'd probably eat anything swimming in it. The Bird's Nest is arguably a low carb delight. A whole avacada , halved and stuffed with a delicious crab salad, I think they broil it and it's decorated with squiggles of spicy mayo and ponzu sauce. It's on some chopped lettuce. It's on the sharable menu and is definitely a two person appetizer! I was full with 1/2 of it and my cup of gumbo. Might feel a little pricey but we are talking primarily fresh seafood and fish-strikes me as Cajun with an Asian flare. Be back tomorrow to try some other offerings! read more

We went to TJ Maxx twice in one week. I kept seeing the word under the Happy Rito sign beckoning to me. "Seaaaafoooooood." My magic word. After our second TJ Maxx visit, I convinced my husband I needed to visit "Just to check it out," and came out with a HUGE fried seafood platter for us to share in the car. Everything was well seasoned and flavorful, but the soft shell crab (which I was admittedly the most excited about) was so fried it didn't retain much of its original texture. The shrimp was pretty good, a little on the colder side, but the fried fish was AMAZING. Hot, flakey, and very fresh. I've been waiting for Viet Cajun to make it to Austin for years. After frequenting Crawfish and Noodles several times in Houston, among others, I was excited to know this place was open to say the least. We (family of 4) weren't sure how to order. There was no sign to wait to be seated, but they had a register at the bar. The lady behind the bar said, we'll clean that table off and you can have that table. That was fine. Table got clean and then we sat. Only to learn, there isn't table service, I was supposed to order with the girl who told me where to sit! So I go back and wait in the line. We waited for 20 min behind two ladies. The lady that was behind the bar was rude, curt, annoyed, and dismissive to everyone she interacted with. Ultimately we decided to leave and go around to Soto Sushi and give them our business. I fully expected to spend $2-300 at this place, but instead gave my $400, to Soto. If you are the owner and reading this, you need to get that lady working the front with glasses, and tattoos out of there and teach her how to make the mudbugs, because her hospitality SUCKS. read more

Price: Fairly Priced What we ordered, Taste & Quality: My hubby and I ordered quite a bit of food! We ordered 3lbs of Crawfish boil (happy style). They had a 3 lbs minimum which at first we thought was a lot but after getting the platter, it was somewhat disappointing. The crawfish we got were extremely tiny and very overcooked. I think they might have been frozen. To add on to the crawfish boil, we added 2 corns and a side of rice. The corn was frozen corn and I took one bite and threw the rest away as it was tasteless/ not sweet. The side of rice is also a HUGE PASS. It was not regular white rice.. it just tasted weird. Lastly, we also ordered the works platter and we didn't enjoy the fish breading. It was cornmeal breading. Flavor & Spice level for Crawfish: The happy style flavor was delicious but also very spicy. Think more dry rub style (there weren't any extra sauce on the bottom of the plate). We weren't allowed to pick the spice level and i wish we were able too. For reference, it was spicier than hot Cheetos. So heads-up if you are someone who generally eat mild spicy, this is probably too spicy for you as well! Drinks: I got the cucumber limeade and really liked it! Highly recommend. Service: Service was great! The person that took and delivered our food were extremely nice. The menu is kinda hard to read especially when ordering at the counter. The white black background and all the different fonts were hard to digest on the tv. Overall: 3/5! My hubby and I were super excited to try this place for their crawfish. Due to the small size and quality of the crawfish, I don't think we will be back. I ordered 3lb's of crawfish that came with potato and corn - I added some sausage and that was the perfect amount! Their crawfish comes in three styles - Happy (their signature preparation with lots of delicious garlic), Authentic Cajun and Garlic Butter. I got authentic cajun but my friends got happy style - I enjoyed both but highly recommend the cajun because you just get all of the traditional cajun flavor without all of the garlic. The service was crap, but the food was tasty. We got 5 lbs, with sausage and potatoes added, also a side of fries. When you order, you indicate what table you want to sit at so they can bring it to you (they really should do what other places do and give you a plastic number card to bring to your chosen table). As we were filling up our waters, they asked us to pick a different table as a large group came in just after us and they needed to accommodate for their space needs. I accepted it and moved to a different spot nearby. Watch me be surprised as the large group gets served before we do. When I saw the fries get delivered weirdly fast for them, and watched them eat it while mentioning they don't recall ordering fries, I put two and two together and went to the cashier and told him that my order is going to my original table, and they already have my fries and I'd need him to put an order through for fries again, and to please make sure this doesn't happen with the crawfish too. He nods and we eventually get our fries. Then I watch crawfish get delivered to the large table, before we get ours. But I let it go, thinking surely not again. The large group continues eating and then more crawfish comes out, and they're confused because the total amount of crawfish on the table is way more than they ordered and paid for. I am now super irritated and get up to tell the cashier/server that he messed up again and that clearly the crawfish order they've been eating was actually ours. No apologies at any time for the mix up with the fries OR the crawfish. He just... takes the eaten platter, puts down the fresh crawfish platter that's correctly the large party's, and brings my bowl to the back to 'top up' and bring back out for my table. I don't support food waste, but that's just gross as hell. The food tasted good, which is a shame, since I haven't gone back and actively told people not to go due to the service issues. It was a $90 meal, and I was pissed and hungry for most of my experience. I get that people make mistakes, so I wasn't mad, just hungr-irritated when the fries mixup happened. I told them what the mistake was and to please correct it before the bigger meal item has a mistake too. He didn't correct it, and then never apologized for any of it, even when it was on HIM to move us to a new table in the first place! Crawfish tastes fresh and not pre-boiled like most places are. I think flavors are just decent. You order everything at the counter and the food comes out in togo containers to the table. So there's really no table service or anything like that. It gets inconvenient bc everytime you need another drink, you'd have to go up to the counter and order again.
