We've never had an issue with this store, nor have I had the displeasure of having to deal with the store manager, David. Would be F I V E stars for the rest of the staff and shopping experiences we've previously had. But it's Z E R O stars for the interaction I experienced with David today while trying to shop. Staff, mostly management (David) need additional training on what a medically protected class is, that they are protected by the state and what they cannot be discriminated for. Shopping is already hard enough that I do not need any additional issues. Two stars for the cashier who was incredibly helpful and did his best to assist. Love Harbor Freight!! They are cheaper than every other hardware store. Yeah sure, sometimes the power tools are 'destined to break' BUT they stand by the warranty no questions asked every time!! This last time we had a project and needed an extra impact gun, well, the motor would burn out after a couple of hours. I returned and exchanged that tool 4 times in 2 days!! Some tools we have gotten there have no problems at all. Still, in my family when work starts it is awesome to know that when the guys break something I can run and get a new one.. Great place with all the tools I needed at good prices. I went in today for a torque wrench and a deep well socket. When I went to the counter, I had a coupon on my phone which they scanned. Then for some reason the checkout machine where you put your credit card in froze. They did all they could to fix it. But it didn't work. So they checked me out on a different register and gave me another fat discount for my inconvenience. Friendly people, good service, good tools. Watch out people. You'll get yourself in a metric ton of trouble in a Harbor Freight store. Whatever you need, they likely have it (well, no new car sales or mortgage refinances or kidney transplants, but anything else almost.) And not only that, the prices are unbeatable. We are regular shoppers at this specific location, and we were there this morning. My husband walked in the store, as I went into Party City to buy some things as we just moved into a new house in Martinez. He was walking around the store with a basket full, and some woman who looked like maybe the manager whispered to her co-worker "that's going to just go right out the door." In close enough proximity to where he could hear it. I told him he should've left the stuff on the counter, and given our business to another location or another place in general. But he purchased all his items and left. 1. I've worked in customer service before and that is disgustingly unprofessional to whisper about a customer to your coworker. 2. Why assume that someone is going to do something when you don't know anything about them? Moral of the story, we will not return to this location. I purchased Harbor Freight's flagship red ICON 73" toolbox (with a matching end locker and stainless steel top) on 8/27/2020, but unfortunately I cannot leave a true product review because my order is currently sitting in the back of my local HF, waiting to be delivered. The offer of "free shipping" plastered all over their advertising appears to be a complete sham. The delivery of my entire order (from the manufacturer to the physical HF store) was delayed twice beyond the original delivery date given to me (3-4 weeks). I can understand this since the items apparently are made-to-order and since we now live in the era of COVID. Apparently everything arrived at the store almost two weeks ago, but I have yet to see any of it because the store documented an incorrect shipping address (they had my home address listed; I wanted it delivered to my work) when I made the purchase. The store told me to clarify the correct shipping address with the shipping company (who HF sublets the delivery of ICON products to) instead of correcting the error immediately when I brought it to their attention during the purchase and pre-approval process for HF credit. That's the worst part--I financed a large portion of this purchase with HF credit, and the first payment has already come due (remember how I still haven't received my order yet? I'm literally making payments on items that are not in my posession). I contacted the bank which holds the loan for this, and they were nice enough to halt payments without accruing any fees for 60 days while my claim was investigated (I told them what you're reading now). I went into the store to see if my items had arrived, and they confirmed that everything was on-site, for my order specifically. Immediately after discovering this they looked me in the eye and asked me, "Is your truck outside?" as if I was going to be picking up the box and bringing it to my work myself! After telling me there was free shipping on ICON products! Fifteen feet to my right from the register was the exact box I ordered with a "FREE DELIVERY" sign facing me! They also laughed at me when I said my first payment had come due two days before, while my order is sitting in the back of their store, undelivered. I've since called the shipping company twice (who actually hung up on me the second time after I was on hold for 30 minutes while I was at work), and apparently the shipping company required approval from HF for the updated shipping address. I've heard nothing back from HF or the shipping company regarding this. I've called them back twice over the course of several days, both times saying they've escalated my case to the ICON team and upper management at HF. Each time they tell me to expect a call back in 2-5 business days. The box, locker and stainless steel top seemed really nice and high quality in the store, and everyone I've spoken to in-store and over the phone has been friendly enough. They don't seem to have any sense of urgency about delivering their flagship products AS ADVERTISED. Perhaps this line of products are nice, but the customer service I've received has been entirely lacking. Perhaps purchasing a toolbox from a more reputable company would have been a better idea. At this point I feel foolish for taking HF at their word. And believe me--I'm not rooting for HF's tool truck competitors. The quality of the box was enticing enough for me to make this purchase in the first place. I'll update my review once I actually have the items in my possession. read more

I've seen their flyers in and out of the newspaper, and eventually I knew I'd have to stop in and take a look around. That's a good thing as it saved me the trouble of making an online order for something I probably didn't want or need in the first place. This is an OK discount tool store and you really do get what you pay for. However, since no one will ever mistake me for a master craftsman, there's a lot of "putter potential" here for those odd household jobs that sometimes require a quick trip to the hardware store. read more

HORRIBLE. Yesterday, I paid over $700 for a generator for my business. All of the employees had a terrible attitude and that is not usually the case from previous experience at this location. Today we filled the generator with gas and found the fuel cock broken and leaking all of the fuel. We drained all of the fuel out of the tank. It took a LONG time. We spent 1-1/2 hours dealing with this. When we went to return it they said it had fuel in it and it needed to be removed. It may have had a teaspoon in it! When we tried to remove it in their parking lot they said you cannot do this here and now we will not take it back here, you will have to go to another store. I called and talked to Angel, who said he was the manager. Apparently, he is the cause of all of the poor attitudes there because he is a dick. Absolutely no customer service skills. He would do nothing to help. He said to take it to another store. I'm done with this place. read more

They stand behind their products with a great warranty and awesome return policy. I bought an air compressor here recently. Brought it home and kept in box in garage till needed. 3 months later, I needed it so I hooked it up. Didn't work. I called with receipt in hand to see if I could exchange it. Apparently there is only a 90 day warranty and I was 1 week past that. Store manager said there was nothing he could do. I am a service tech and a consumer as well. I understand the importance of customer service. There are exceptions available from manufacturers, if not, sometimes just satisfying the customer is worth the cost to do so. Well, the $60 compressor is in the dumpster along with my loyalty. Amazon just gained more of my loyalty, although I do try to keep my money local, the cost of poor service can make a difference. read more

So Like other reviews say, you have to be discerning and realistic in what to expect from knock-off tools. It took me a few times to realize that just because it says "Compare to Porter Cable" does not mean you should. That's just Crazy talk! If your job or REPUTATION depends on the outcome of a project, best not to cheap out. I once was on a job and had purchased a knock-off Sawzall type saw at HF. I did not finish the 1st cut when the motor smoked and seized! Thank goodness I also had my Milwaukee with me! I bought it new in the 1980's, and it has literally been 20' to the bottom of the delta and just keeps on working. I've since bought a new Milwaukee, for my main Sawzall. If I added up all the money I've wasted on cheap crap at Harbor Freight, it would have paid for many high quality tools. DUH!!!!! As HF's prices have gone up and their COUPONS NOW EXCLUDE ALMOST EVERYTHING, It is easy to just go straight for quality. My quibble is more with HF corporate. I am inundated with HF ads, almost daily with fine print so tiny, it can't be printed legibly (get out your HF magnifying flip-up googles with the light that never worked) If you can read it you'll find it expires almost immediately, but worse, read the exclusions! Pretty much no power tools are allowed. But that's actually good news because they are mostly what will let you down. The supposed discounts are ridiculous because no one with a brain would ever pay what they claim their regular price is! I'm looking at todays ad now. It has a Franklin Brand (probably one of HF's new "house brands") 17' ladder for $109,"Compare to Little Giant" I have looked at both ladders closley and Little Giant is FAR superior and it is on sale right now at Costco for $149 ($40 off). It's way more than $80 better IMHO. What is your life worth? Just sayin' HF does have a nice little Snap-on style 1/4 inch drive ratchet with the swivel head-perfect for fuel injectors. The Snap-on is $100! (but made with good steel, etc.) The HF knock-off is less than $20!!! STILL TOO HIGH! (See tip #2 below) If it is mission critical, don't cheap out... but for cheap one-off's, they do have a large selection of niche tools at reasonably low prices. Tip #1: Tired of finding that your HF coupon is expired? get your coupons out of magazines (I'm thinking Popular Mechanic's, AAA magzine, and others). The are dated a few months out as opposed to the one in your mailbox today that is good for a few days only. Tip #2: NEVER TRUST HF RATCHETS!! I HAVE HAD MORE THAN ONE BREAK AND YOU CAN BE SERIOUSLY INJURED, or at the least, all cut up. Always push with your palms open, or take similar safety measures. For light work like injector rails they are ok. I mainly keep old American made tools or some Japanese tools for my use. Steel matters. Quality, not quantity. Tip #3: ALWAYS BUY THE EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR ANYTHING WITH MOVING PARTS. When it dies prematurely (And it will) they will replace it with another of equally dubious quality!) If it's so bad that you end up returning the tool, you can return the warranty too if it hasn't been used I think (read the terms). Good luck and happy cheap skating! read more

So here's the deal. It's harbor freight. Right? That means lesser quality Chinese made stuff. But don't knock it altogether. Personally I don't buy anything with too many moving parts from them. But: pullers, hammers, tarps and wrenches are fair game. Sometimes it's cheaper to buy a one time tool from these guys than to rent it. Fuckit. You just might use the damn thing more than once. I dig harbor freight. It is what is. Subtracting a star. Bought a piece of equipment from this location and it was missing a very crucial part. Discovered this when I was in the middle of a project. Had to drop everything and go all the way back to the store for the part. Also, I bought a come-a long and it broke. Starting to think I shouldn't shop here anymore. Was looking at another piece of equipment to buy, and there were all these pictures of the equipment broken or leaking fluid, posted by folks who had purchased it already. read more

I've been to now 6 different Harbor Freights in California. If you've never been to a HF, think of it as a discount tool place that sells a ton of cheap, Chinese made tools and power tools. If you know what you're looking for and know tools, you can discern which ones will last and which ones probably won't. The rep for HF power tools though is typically on the riskier side. I've had HF power tools burn out, but if you have a project that is one of those once in a life time deals, it's probably better to buy it rather than renting a tool. This HF is great because it has a huge lot. It shares a lot with a Party City and a nearby battery store (which is cool and sells lots of obscure sizes of batteries). The layout is typical HF: clean aisles, predictable layout of merchandise, good signage, etc. The variations you get in HF in general are due to two things (these are just my 2 cents): - power tool breaking down too quickly - poor customer service I can comment on the last one: I find this store's customer service above average. I've been to some HFs back in So Cal where the employees had bad attitudes. So far, this hasn't been the case at this store. I've bought some random things here and all have worked well, esp this cheap furniture pad and tarp for our bikes on the patio. Lots to eat in this area too. I have been purchasing items from Harbor Freight for many years. The lessons I have learned make up this rather poor review. Most power tools are junk or near junk, with few exceptions. I am an amateur wood worker and have purchased several power tools in this category. My latest was a chop saw. It is essential that a chop saw cut at accurate angles. This one was so bad it never made an accurate cut. With about two hours of use the blade guard somehow struck the saw in mid cut splintering the plastic blade guard. I just put it in the garbage and purchased a Ryobi that cost about $40 more than the HF. I could not be happier with this saw. Currently the only other power tool that still survives in my workshop that was purchased from HF is a plunge router, but unfortunately the plunge lock is just about ready to fail. If you need a non-power tool you will probably be ok with HF. I have learned not to purchase anything that requires accuracy, durability, or has a motor. My other complaint with HF is their "fake" coupons. If you read the fine print, there are exclusions on many many items. Typically, these items are on the expensive side. You can save a few dollars using a coupon on a hand tool but I have not found any savings that is significant on a larger purchase. I feel that their 20%-25% coupons at best are unclear to consumers and at worse are a planned bait and switch tactic to get consumers into the store and not provide them with a discount on all items. read more

What an unbelievable experience of nothing but exceptional customer service....NOT! Robyn, who was wonderfully & extremely rude, did such a fantastic job of giving such unprofessional service! I had a Yelp check-in offer at Harbor Freight for a free flashlight with purchase; well, let's just say she was extremely ecstatic on not helping us out; in fact, she was so ecstatic that she happily refused to read the coupon code on my phone. I told her that I couldn't expand the coupon anymore on my phone screen and she stated that without the coupon code, she was unable to give us the flashlight. Filled with love and joy, I asked if there was anyone else that could read the coupon code. Robyn, with a spectacular smile, rolled her eyes and called for the store manager, Darrin, to come to the register. By this time, my happiness level was at an all-time high and Darrin took me to his office and we spoke about the treatment my husband and I received as well as the happy happy joy joy attitude we were feeling in the store. He explained that he was recently promoted and that CS was a big issue he was working on to improve. He said that Robyn should have scanned the coupon from the store circular instead of making the excuse that she wasn't able to help us out. After explaining to Darrin that we no longer wanted to purchase the items in our cart and redeem the free item, he took it upon himself to give us not one but two flashlights for our trouble and he stated profusely he hoped we would give his store another chance. We thanked him very much and as we made our way out of the store, the other cashiers quickly played it off that they weren't talking about us. I went up to them with a smile and said, "If you're going to talk crap about your customers, please have the decency to do it after we leave and not before. Okay, it's a discount tool store, so expect discount tools when you buy. As a result of my own experiences, I refuse to buy heavy use power tools or anything with a blade or cutting edge from this store. Forstner, router, and other drill bits go straight to hell after a few uses, saws go dull, and electronics tend to peter out over a shorter span of time than one would expect. I've always hesitated when buying precision instruments from Harbor Freight, like calipers, micrometers, gauges, and squares. I'll pay top dollar for that precision. That said, if you need a bludgeoning device or plan on using most of the above-mentioned tools only once or twice (as a throw-away tool, for example), then be not afraid, do-it-yourselfer! I've got an amazing extension cord reel from this store, and it feeds, retracts, and provides electricity as advertised. Also, things like N95 dust masks, half-face respirators, gloves, and the ilk are a no-brainer - all those things are Harbor Freight knockoffs in my garage/shop. The long and short of it is that light or gentle use tools are good here. Anything without a cutting edge is also good. I avoid the electronics, and I've subscribed to their weekly email list so I can snap up those throw-away tools and other accessories at reasonable prices. Don't be afraid, but definitely be cautious of the things you choose to buy at this store. read more
