Honestly, we wanted to love this place. It is homey and lovely, offering what could have been a great meal, but the service is slow and the food was mostly mediocre. The hostess was super friendly and nice. I will have to say, the majority of the problem was probably the fault of the server, who seemed like a nice person but Just wasn't a good server. We arrived the same time as another table, but were served by two different people. They had drinks within a few minutes and fifteen minutes later we still didn't have drinks we had ordered. The server added crab instead of shrimp to the fried tomato appetizer, but we didn't complain. One appetizer came at the end of the meal. We have eaten a lot of fried green tomatoes (it's one of our favorite apps), and these are at the bottom of the list. Crab cakes were okay and fairly large. I would order them again. I have eaten at the Harbor View several times over the past few years; breakfast, lunch, dinner and takeout. Consistently rates in the top 5 of local restaurants and does and excellent job with local cuisine especially for the price. Servers and staff were all cordial and capable. Airy and clean dining area and a great wraparound porch to eat outdoors in the evening or morning. Very nice ambiance. As is the case with fresh fried or grilled seafood and/or pasta takeout suffers a bit. More expensive seafood restaurants are in the area but if you want a nice dining experience and very good local cuisine at a reasonable price it can't be beat. read more

Food is pretty good. Service is really slow. Asked for two waters for my friend and I. After our food came she decided it was an appropriate time to finally bring the water. I was a little parched so I finished said water pretty quickly. She said she'd be right back with a refill. 10 minutes later she's taking the orders of the table behind me with 8 people. I walk up to the counter with my cup to get more water. About 6 people behind the counter, no one acknowledged me. There were pitchers sitting on the counter so I poured my own water. Very reliable, but very average diner food. This cafe sits in the heart of downtown Longbeach, but there aren't any buildings except on the north facing side. I'll give you one guess why this is. It is extremely difficult to find a place along the Mississippi gulf coast to get a hot breakfast that isn't named Waffle House. The most disappointing feature of this cafe is that they only serve breakfast on the weekends. Unfortunately, I and most other working people eat breakfast every day. They had pumpkin pancakes as their breakfast special this Saturday morning. Nothing too special, but the bacon was decent. My coworker and I also ate here for lunch the other day. We tried their hamburger steak special with mashed potatoes and gravy with a side of peas. I've never had hamburger steak in the actual shape of a hamburger patty, but I guess it makes sense. For those who want a decent Waffle House alternative for the weekend, come here. read more

It took some time for me to consider doing this review. I had lunch here and was impressed with the food and service. So I convinced my daughter to come for dinner on her birthday, August 27, 2021. We each ordered a different entree. My angel hair pasta and shrimp was floating in way too much sauce but the worst was a hair on my daughters plate when served. First impression, I liked their speediness to get things done along with the friendliness. As per the talk around town I ordered the Shrimp Po-Boy not dressed. Not dressed meaning no lettuce, no mayo, etc. Anyway for $7.75 I got at least a lb of shrimp on a 9 inch roll, (see picture). The shrimp was de-lish as Rachael Ray would say. The bread it came on however was something to complain about. It was soft but was very chewy. Couldn't tell if it had been microwaved or that there was too much gluten in the dough when it was made or maybe the dough was mixed too long. Not sure. Kathy and I went to try Harbor View tonight. They have relocated into a new building on Jeff Davis Avenue, the main street in Long Beach. We had never eaten at either of their other two locations, but we have heard good things. Kathy is really a sandwich person and she ordered the combo club sandwich (****) which came with chips. I am really trying to eat healthier and to lose some weight so I tried the grilled fresh gulf fish which today the waitress said was ma-hi ma-hi (**). The fish came with a house salad and choice of pasta or rice pilaf. The low score on the fish is because it was slightly overdone. The worst thing you can do to a fish is overcook it. For the same money I could have gone to Bonefish, where they really know how to prepare fresh fish. Not a great review for them but I am giving them another chance. I will go back and try something different and let you know. Almost left out the server review, the young lady did a good job. They were very busy. read more

I give a resounding MEH, just like the stars say. I'm mystified why anyone would rate this place so highly. - Maple syrup was fake, high fructose corn syrup knockoff garbage - Pancakes were basically actual cakes. They were good, but unrealistically large and I felt foolish ordering them in addition to my breakfast. Only ate half of one. - Eggs your way? Cool. Eggs that tasted like Egg Beaters? Not cool. - The "hash" I got was not merely overcooked, it was over-salted and burnt. You too can enjoy potatoes, bell peppers, and onions that have barely survived a trip through hell and back. - The placement of the tables outdoors was bizarre. I could not enjoy my meal, as there was an older lady and her friend literally staring in directly at my husband and I attempting to enjoy our mediocre brunch. Super awkward. I felt like an animal on display. - The hot cocoa I got was hysterically over-sweetened. In summary: A bunch of over-sweetened, over-refined, over-processed, over-salted mediocre food? I should have figured, in the diabetes/obesity capital of the USA. You probably could have gotten better at IHOP. I could have gotten better just sucking it up and making breakfast at home. A group of us came for lunch. We were so excited about the dessert that we plowed though our lunches. The shrimp po'boys are overflowing with shrimp. The hamburger was huge and juicy. The New Orleans shrimp were large and tasty. The creole shrimp pasta was flavorful. The desserts as mentioned earlier were fantastic. The triple chocolate cake was moist and so rich. My family and I visited for lunch this week and we enjoyed our visit! It was crowded, and a bit loud inside, but it didn't bother us. They have an interesting menu with quite a few choices, but we settled on the turkey sandwich with cream cheese and cranberries, and my daughter got the kid's chicken tender plate. Our sandwiches came with a side of kettle chips which were okay, but the sandwich - that was amazing. We ordered a couple of slices of cake to share, a Reeses' cake slice and a hummingbird slice, and our lovely waitress told us that some of the cakes were made from scratch each day. Great place for lunch with excellent service and excellent indoor and outdoor seating. They are open for breakfast and lunch Sunday- Tuesday with full day service the rest of the week. I had a chicken and shrimp salad (**** stars). The salad bed was iceberg with carrot shavings, but the chicken breast was excellently cook and marinated tasting tender and juicy. The shrimp were blackened and while a tad bit salty well seasoned, tender and fresh. They have a full bar and while we went at noon, we were in and out in less than hour, without any rush. This is one of my favorite places to eat on the Mississippi coast. I always get the poboy, either shrimp or half and half shrimp and oyster. Smoked turkey avocado and bacon sandwich for my daughter, Chipotle avocado burger for my nephew and my husband had the special meatloaf peas and mashed potatoes. Everyone loved their food. 6/13/2021 Bustling place Sunday morning about 9am. But lots of parking, and with 2nd ramp from back to main entrance on beach side. Porch dining very popular, but I opted for the a/c on a steamy MS summer morning. Seated solo quickly, and able to order as soon as I was ready while slurping up their excellent coffee. Seconds and thirds on the coffee. The service is great, even with an almost SRO breakfast crowd. Noisy because everybody is getting caught up with everybody else all at the same time. Locals and tourists all know about the Harbor View. My food was hot; I must say their homefries are awesome, cut like apples in a pie, browned with skins on with three kinds of sweet peppers plus onions. I can't wait to try the porch seating when some cool fall mornings come back around, again. Sitting out there with food this good and watching the Gulf has to be about as good as it gets. I ate here years ago and loved the place, especially the Chicken Salad & Eggplant Fries. I had a yearning for Chicken Salad yesterday and decided to take the ride to Harbor View Cafe which is a good distance from me. It was very busy which is understandable for a Sunday. I waited for a table and was seated quickly. I ordered the Eggplant Fries, which I was quickly told they were out of, so I ordered my Chicken Salad and also ordered one to go. I figured I would have it for lunch the next day. When it arrived, I was so disappointed. Not only had the Chicken Salad shrunk 50% in size but the ingredients looked like they had been chopped very fine in a food processor. It used to be nice chunks of chicken, grapes and chopped nuts. It was terrible... I asked the server if there was supposed to be grapes in so she went to check. When she came back she brought a small bowl of whole grapes and said the chef said they have grapes chopped very fine it it that's probably why I can't see them, I sent the grapes back and also cancelled my 'to go' order. Didn't know they had new owners but won't go back. Why would you purchase a restaurant with good business and good recipes and change the recipes? Such a shame. read more

I used to go to Harbor View before they relocated after Katrina and aways loved it. Breakfast this morning, not so much. I got the crab and cheese omelet and there was not much on it. We went to this restaurant a couple of days ago for. dinner. Service was good but I was disappointed in the food. I was expecting fresh seafood but my shrimp and oyster platter tasted like they were frozen, anything but fresh. Same for the Shrimp platter. Shrimp were small and not fresh. Everything else was fine but quite frankly, if I wanted frozen food I would go to Walmart and cook it myself. It's a shame. The two stars are for the employees. read more

The Seafood Atchafalaya was incredible! And I was lucky enough to stop in for dinner on the day they had Asparagus Shrimp Soup. Oh it was so good. Talk about southern hospitality at it's finest. Every single person we came in contact with was genuinely nice! We had the Fried Dill Pickels...some of the best I've ever had and at one time I lived in the south for 7 years and tried them every place I ate.
