Actually, it was my first time here. I found this place in the OC restaurant week site. And a really nice find. I started out with coconut shrimp as an app, then got the coconut salmon for dinner. Everything was cooked perfectly and the food was very tasty. Service was spot on with a friendly smile. If you haven't been here before, they have a great view of the harbor. Good for a quick bite but a little bit expensive for being bar food. On OpenTable, you can make your reservations, but it's not needed because nobody cares about the reservations. They don't really take reservations and they just tell you to go find your own seat. It's the bartender that you see when you walk through the door and they just motion you to go grab a table. Then you go up and order your food at the cash register And pay for it first and then it gets delivered. read more

Went for happy hour as they sent my mom a coupon for BOGO "up to $11. The mussels and crab cakes and even the Mac and cheese were all great. But things got a little weird when we presented the coupon. They took a $7 item off the bill, instead of one of the two $11 items. When we asked the server she sent over a manager. The manager said they got to pick the lowest priced item. When I asked why it said "BOGO up to $11" he said that's just if you order those two items. So let's get this straight....I ordered four things (two at $11, one at $10, and one $7). The manager said we'd have to split the bill to get the $11 discount. Sorry bro that's just not how it works and is blatant false advertising. We've literally been joking here decades, and will continue to. It was my Birthday weekend, and my Girlfriend brought me here for dinner before our sunset harbor cruise. I have to say everything was awesome! We both had the half and half, which was the half order of fish and chips with shrimp. It came with the house salad. Everything was absolutely delicious and on point! Corporate needs to give her a raise for her personality alone we had the OC restaurant week menu. Cioppino was delish, fam enjoyed the swordfish as well. And that is the scalloped potatoes. When I saw them on the menu with the tri-tip, I got really happy. Because I love some good scalloped potatoes. Unfortunately they make it in what looks like a casserole or loaf, and it is a very dense & flavorless potato. I only took one small bite & left the rest there. A girlfriend of mine and I dined here for dinner on May 13, 2023. It was our first time here so I made reservations in advance. Harborside was built in 1906 and is located inside the historic Balboa Pavilion building. Harborside is the perfect place to enjoy a casual waterfront lunch or dinner with colleagues, family/friends or a date. We were seated by the dock and had beautiful views of the Harbor. Haborside has the best 180 degree view in the harbor! They are known for their seafood, prime steaks, Alaskan king crab, Australian lobster and local favorites. Although wine list isn't extensive, they do have about two-dozen selections available by the glass. They also offer "the longest happy hour in town" featuring appetizers, beer, wine and cocktails. We ordered clam chowder, salmon and crab cake appetizer. All were fresh, delicious and cooked to perfection - highly recommend ordering all of these!!! Our server was professional, attentive and personable. The manager, Jeffrey, even stopped by our table to ensure that we were having an incredible dining experience. Parking is challenging since it's Newport Beach. We ended up parking in a nearby neighborhood and walked a few blocks. We took the ferry from Balboa Island and walked to the Boardwalk to see the sights. I personally have never been to the island, so was intrigued by all the amusement park activities available on this island wonderland. I wanted to go to the Harborside restaurant because the building has so much classical features and an iconic atmosphere. The food is typical of a beach cuisine featuring various fish dishes and some various dishes the kids would like too. The dining room is moderately sized and had all ages from infant to silver citizens dining with pleasure. What really got my attention was the giant fish tank and reminds me that I'm still a kid at heart. I enjoyed both the food and service here, and was happy with the food quality and quantity. The grilled salmon with beurre blanc was moist and delicious. The seasonal vegetables were cooked and seasoned very well. The mahi mahi was pretty dry. The service was excellent and the waiter was very helpful and accommodating with keto diet suggestions, and patient with my indecisiveness. My daughter and I came to Harborside for dinner to watch the boat parade. Great view of parade and great service. This was a price fix menu on the last night of the parade. I had scallops that had a slight smell/taste of ammonia. Did not eat my dinner.My daughter had a different entree - filet mignon. In common, we both ate the appetizer and clam chowder. So apparently multiple problems with the food. We both got food poisoning and lost that night and the next day to vomiting, chills, etc. Most disappointing was emailing the restaurant and receiving NO reply re: our experience there. No comment of concern, no offer for reimbursement (which was $95 per person) - ZERO. Reported to OC Health Dept. for investigation 12/22/25. BEWARE read more

We recently dined here after a whale watch cruise. We made reservations for 5 at 11:30am on Sat when they opened but the place was empty so I don't think it was necessary. Our waiter was nice and I really appreciated him checking with the kitchen to see if they could accommodate my allergies. They were able to do so which I very much appreciated. The server was kind and helpful but the overall service was pretty slow. There may have been people at the bar but we were the only people at a table for quite some time and the food took a good minute. The food overall was ok ... not the best, not the worst. My dad enjoyed his coconut crusted red snapper. My husband ordered the same dish and thought it was very bland. My kids both ordered pesto chicken pasta. While they both enjoyed the chicken, they thought the sauce was very creamy and lacked flavor. They all liked the garlic bread. I ordered the red snapper cooked in olive oil, salt and pepper and I enjoyed it. The veggies were steamed without any seasoning so they really lacked flavor but I added salt and pepper and lemon juice to help. I couldn't have the rice pilaf because it had butter. I was disappointed that they boast the longest happy hour from 11:30-9pm but don't tell you that you have to sit at the bar. They have a lot more offerings on that happy hour menu I wanted to try like the blackened salmon taco, grilled asparagus ... kids wanted bacon mac n cheese. So this was kind of misleading and a negative. We made it work though. By checking in we received 20% off so that helped but I wouldn't really consider this fine dining or anything. It was a decent meal but not really worth revisiting. Very convenient after a cruise though. TIP to mgmt...you need to clean your sign ... the one you can see from the water. It is disgusting and if I hadn't researched prior reviews, would have thought very negatively concerning the cleanliness of this restaurant. Worth it to give it a good power wash imo. read more

I am so pleased with our selections here. We placed our order online to go. At first the order got all screwed up. We didn't have two of our items. I always make a point of checking my food when ordering online. They mixed our order up with someone else's. The manager Sheila quickly rectified the situation and because we had to wait she put in a extra dessert for waiting. The food had very good flavor. We enjoyed it all. Visited on a New Year's Day, we were lucky to have secured a last minute reservation for lunch. We requested to be seated by the windows overlooking the bay, we were pretty lucky to get one. They were a little understaffed, the place was pretty crowded. Our waiter Mr.Salomon was very attentive even though he had quite a few tables on his watch. Ordered our appetizer, entrees and dessert too. He managed to get our son's food prepared quick. He was happy. We had the onion rings tower and mussels. My son ordered the mini cheeseburger while my daughter ordered the filet mignon pasta. I had the reuben and my hubby got the clam chowder and the seared scallops. Everything came out as expected, they did forget the au jus but it was cool. The dessert that we ordered was a hit. It was the warm rolled banana with cream cheese and vanilla bean ice cream. Will definitely be back if we are in the area, or we ever do the whale watching again. We were pretty lucky to get a spot by the valet parking. It was $10 with 2hours restaurant validation. The gentleman was pleasant and funny. There are plenty of metered parking within the walking distance or across the street by the balboa pier. Made a reservation and was obviously seated right away in the most beautiful spot next to the water. My kids got to see boats and deckhands at work. There were 12 of us here on Sunday for lunch after the Balboa Artwalk, and I have more friend's saying this is my "new favorite restaurant" after they taste the best Orange Coconut Salmon ever!!! We had the back private room, and the perfect luncheons with their all day happy hour. There is a big group of us that go out to eat constantly, a foodies group, and we really know good food. This was probably my 10th time here this year, it truly doesn't get any better. No one ever suggests another restaurant when I say, "Let's go to Harborside!" We've gone after hiking on the peninsula, after taking out pontoon boats and Sunday right after the Balboa Artwalk. We all shared the Mudd Pie for dessert, which was exceptional!
