Looking for a new experience, my wife and I made the short trip from Long Beach to Newport Beach to try Woody"s Wharf. We found the short trip to be pleasant. Traffic on the peninsula was moderate. Instructions from Yelp were perfect! The restaurant has quite a bit of on-site parking. We were there for a Friday lunch and parking was not an issue. I would imagine evenings may be another issue. Upon entering we were seated promptly. Our server promptly brought menus in short order and took our beverage orders. My wife and I took a different ordering path that day. We shared 3 appetizers, rather than individual entrees. We shared the small Nachos, Brussels Sprouts and Cevichi. Each of these plates were very good and the portions were more than expected. I had asked for a glass for my beer. Sorry to say, it took a good 20 minutes for my request to be fulfilled. This request was the sole blemish. Awesome place. We came here for their happy hour specials which range from $6 drinks to $5- $10 meals. We came in a big group and ordered a little bit of everything. The drinks were strong. The food came out fast and our server was very attentive. Everyone here works as a team. Docked our duffy to order food to go here and we love it. We placed our orders inside and waited in the duffy. Food came in a timely manner and the best part is they delivered the food on the dock. Huge menu but we love their shareables especially the sampler platter ($38) where you get to choose any 3 of their apps. We were surprised of how generous the servings were. Our favorites are the bang bang shrimp, buffalo cauliflower, calamari, asada fries, nachos, and fish and chips. The staff took care of everything and made sure we had sauces, napkins, and utensils. I kid you not, it was so windy at our table that it was actually insufferable. All the other walls had panels to avoid the strong wind, but for some reason the wall by our table had no panel so it was insanely windy. Food and liter kept flying away and into the ocean. This restaurant should be fined for all the trash that flew into the ocean with nothing holding anything down (trust me we tried holding as much as we could down). Im not trying to glaze or overhype but genuinely in comparison to other brunch spots like Ramos House or Laguna Beach spots, this hands down had the best brunch for your buck. The seating is both inside and outdoors and if you choose outdoors you are literally seated on the water next to the yacht clubs. It's $35 for brunch which comes with the bottomless mimosas, an entree of your choosing and a complimentary starter (they gave us muffins). Super cheap for a broke college student like myself who still likes to go out every now and then. The service is not super personal but that's fine because they get pretty busy and there's not much you need for mimosas haha. Overall I would highly recommend if you havnt gone yet. read more

Stopped by Woody's Wharf for exactly what it does best -- a cold beer with a buddy and some Newport Beach atmosphere. First things first: I skipped the $8 valet (no thanks) and parked around the corner for a couple bucks. Small win, more beer money. This place is iconic for a reason. Waterfront views, relaxed dockside energy, boats cruising by, it's one of those spots where you instantly feel like you're on vacation even if you're not. Perfect place to post up with a drink and just watch the harbor do its thing. What makes it even cooler is knowing the history. Opened back in the mid-60s as a fisherman's hangout, it later became a regular stop for old school Hollywood...names like John Wayne and Cary Grant floated through here. At one point Chuck Norris even owned it (and apparently had Jean-Claude Van Damme working the door... only in Newport). Plenty of great places around Newport to grab a beer, but Woody's hits different when you mix the view, the vibe, and the stories baked into the walls. Casual, classic, and very Newport. read more

They still managed to come out with all of our food at the same time. We ordered muffins for the table with our bottomless Mimosas. They were pretty diligent about refilling our glasses. We went for dinner and really enjoyed the setting--the water view adds a relaxed, coastal charm, and the overall atmosphere makes it an easy spot to unwind, especially with a group of friends. It has that lively, social energy that works well for a casual night out. Service, however, was a bit uneven. Our waitress missed part of our order initially, though to her credit, she was quick to fix it once we pointed it out. The food itself was decent but didn't quite match the hype. My lobster pasta, in particular, could have used more depth of flavor and leaned a bit too salty for my taste. Came here on New Year's Day with a party of 11. Food came out fast. I ordered the bang bang shrimp and the short rib melt. Bang bang shrimp was nicely battered and sauced, reminds me of Chinese honey walnut shrimp with the tiniest bit of spice. Short rib melt was good, the meat was tender, juicy, and flavorful. If it was just the beef itself, it would've been overpowering but the lettuce, cheese, red onions, and sauces help balance out the sandwich. Fries were perfectly done and tasted like curly fries (seasoning had a bit of spice). Comes with a side of ranch to dip your fries and/or sandwich in also.
