Came here for the Saturday before Mother's Day as it was convenient to our whale watching and looked nice in the pictures. The server was very nice however after our initial introduction, we didn't see her. It was a ghost town where we were seated yet we had no refills (our cups and empty plates were clearly stacked at the front side of the table) and check ins even though the host (who I believe may have been a manager), bus boy, and other staff members walked by. The food was very similar to Mimi's Cafe and unfortunately everyone at our table was a bit underwhelmed especially at the price we were paying. I was a little bummed out because this was to celebrate my mom and she was disappointed in the service and food. Wouldn't recommend coming here and won't be returning. read more

Price is okay for what you get. It's hard to get a burger for less than $15 at a sit-down restaurant these days. I had the $8 burger from happy hour, which looked more like a slider and cheap thin fries. Also had the seafood cioppino, which was decent, but was very salty. The salmon was really good, and along with the sauce. The calamari was too thick and the crab was overly salty. Fortunately I had a $15 off coupon to offset the price. Had a margarita for happy hour, but nothing special. Generally, don't plan to come back, but servers are nice. Parking in Balboa is generally difficult. read more

We made this reservation for a last minute dinner on Father's Day. The stars and pictures depicted a VERY different experience than we received. The place was dated and was empty at 6:00pm! The food was terrible with the exception of the swordfish that one of our 7 ordered. The service was not good, food came out in spurts. Why a wedge salad was not a "wedge" and did not have blue cheese dressing available is not good. The clam chowder was watery and had almost whole (fishy) clams in it. I want to give this place bet. 3 and 3.5 stars. I had a large reservation over the weekend. Check in was seamless and they already had our table ready. Polite host. We had 2 main servers. One of them was a new guy, he was pretty nice. The other man server was not as nice. He tried to rush all of us into ordering. We had literally just sat down and he's coming around asking what drinks we want to order. Same thing happened when it was time for appetizers. As soon as we are barely eating our apps, he comes and asks for our main course orders and we told him we're not ready and he seem to get frustrated at that. My reservations was at 7 pm. I understand they close at 9, but constantly rushing each part of the dinner was rude and obnoxious on that server's behalf. The new guy was great though. All of our orders came out correctly, except for one time when we were missing one Caesar salad. The Caesar salads are incredibly small. It's literally made for like one person. So if you have a large party of like 20 people, maybe order like eight of them. The actual main course was delicious! I ordered blackened mahi mahi and was bomb. Loved the veggies too. It seemed that everybody liked their entrée. The reason I had to remove two stars was mainly for the fact that we felt rushed the entire time. When it comes to cutting my cake, they were telling us their kitchen is closing in that I need to give them the cake. I was not done taking photos, so I told them that I would cut it myself. We just asked for a knife and ended up cutting the cake ourselves because they were rushing us so much. I probably would not be back. I do appreciate that they take large parties though. When you have almost 20 people, I don't know why his server is getting mad when the entire party is not ready to order. Especially when the server comes to take our entrée order literally right as the appetizers came and we just started eating them. You're paying for the view in terms of the prices. Came here with some family on a weeknight. The location is great, though parking can be a bit challenging. The atmosphere was relaxed and, making it a nice spot to unwind. We had the BEST 4th of July experience at Harborside! From start to finish, everything was perfect -- and it's all thanks to the incredible team. First, a huge shoutout to Marlene and Corey, the managers, who made sure every detail of our night was smooth and enjoyable, even on such a busy holiday. They were both so warm, attentive, and genuinely cared about making our visit enjoyable despite how busy they were. Our server, Glen, was fantastic. As a former server myself, I can say he was friendly, quick, and had the best recommendations. Even with the holiday crowds, he kept our drinks full, and our food coming out hot. The food was delicious (you can't beat their seafood and that banana cream cheese dessert... The Shrimp and Lobster Bisque soup was average. The Onion Rings were great and huge. The Chargrilled Oysters were not that great. Nothing like Oysters Rockefeller. The bar quesadilla was average. Extremely unprofessional and careless valet service at Harborside Restaurant. While standing in the designated area near the valet, a valet driver backed a vehicle into me, hitting my left leg. When I addressed it, instead of apologizing or showing any concern, the valet driver told me I shouldn't have been standing there and acted as if the incident was my fault. There was no apology, no concern for my safety, and no accountability. Being struck by a moving vehicle and then dismissed so rudely is unacceptable. This experience alone is enough for me to never use the valet service here again. I will be making a formal complaint. Harborside seriously needs to reevaluate their valet company and customer safety procedures. read more

It could be because we went on Mother's day, but still it was kind of frustrating having to ask two or three times for our drinks. Our family and extended family have been dining there for many years., and often Happy hour in the daytime and encourage friends to as well. This was our first Thanksgiving dining out and we selected you. Party of 9.for 1:30 pm and we were entirely disappointed.. Placed in the bar... cold, plain blank ambience. The salad was like a cafeteria lettuce shredding with terrible dressing. Cappy's has a better side salad than this. The turkey was an over salted turkey roll with flour lump gravy , terrible mashed potatoes, oily string beans, salty bread dressing and cranberry syrup that looked like mud. The pumpkin pie was wet and the crust was soft and gooey. The whip cream was the best thing on the entire menu . I spoke with Jordan , the manager of the day.., It's a shame because it was also my mother's 100 birthday .. I was so embarrassed and unhappy we never mentioned and celebrated later A testament as to the salt content in the food; my mother awakened the next am with swollen legs up to her knees and her hands were swollen and her face was swollen . My husband's face was also swollen. I had the flat iron beef which was tough and did not eat the mashed potatoes . Nor did I eat the pie after one bite .. Your coffee was good that day. One last note: our waiter was not friendly and tended to be forgetful as in silverware, no water refills, no salad dressing that was off to the side, missing cranberry syrup ( just as well) it felt like service from a walk up window where you pick up a number...., also, he called out as to " turkey and Steak" and we would nod and raise our hand to indicate and have the dish placed in front of us.... Not only were we able to have a few drinks but we had an amazing view of all the Christmas boats on the pier; this would be great for a date or even a nice girls night out. I have to also mention our waitress was amazing she was so on top of it she also took amazing pictures of us, I wish I could give her a shout out but I did not write her name down (sad face).
