There was no wait and we were seated at a table near the front. This was the busiest I've ever seen them. They did their best to seat people, take orders, deliver food and beverages, and check in on patrons. The food we ordered was just okay today. Our meals were a bit bland. The portions are very generous. Maybe it was an off day due to the number of customers. I might give them another try. Prices are on par with other breakfast spots in SF of this caliber. I want to emphasize that the service was great. We weren't ignored and the hostess got us seated promptly and was very sweet. Unfortunately as for cleanliness, off the bat our bottle for water had mold on the rim. Photo included of what we wiped off. The quality of the food was fine but there was excess grease leaving pools on the plate where the fries were. I do think if a restaurant is going to charge extra for ranch that it should be pretty high quality but I am pretty sure it was the Heinz ranch that gets served in cafeterias. Additionally under the table we were sat in front of, there were a ton of exposed wires and what seemed to be a taped in outlet which i think just really brought down the value of the experience. The coffee, omelette and hash brown are very good. But everything needed salt and pepper. Bagel with smoked salmon was very good, bagel was lightly toasted. Chicken steak was good, crisp, not a slice of beef but ground meat. Hash brown nicely brown and crisp. Allow me to preface this with I'm not from San Francisco -- I just travel here a few times a year, so my knowledge of the scene here is limited. Hungry and looking for a breakfast burrito, I settled on Toast after looking here on Yelp and at the reviews on Doordash. I don't ask for much: a breakfast burrito that has a fresh, homemade tortilla, potatoes that are crispy, and the option to remove eggs (I'm picky about how my eggs are prepared -- it's a texture thing). Toast, I assumed, fit that bill based on what I read. For a close to $20 burrito, I was a little disappointed. The bacon was crispy, but the potatoes inside were almost indistinguishable and the tortilla tasted store bought. I might have been willing to overlook the tortilla, but the cheese wasn't even really melty and the rest of the ingredients, aside from the bacon, were just meh. Sadly this isn't my first disappointing experience burrito wise in San Francisco, so maybe I'm missing something here. I will say the addition of avocado was nice, though. The highlight for this meal was the side of hash browns that came with the burrito: crispy, salty, savory. Given this experience, maybe it's best to stick to more classic dishes from here (perhaps french toast). For now, however, I'm just gonna have to continue my hunt for a decent burrito in SF. read more

You know, back when restaurants first started to reopen after those initial COVID shutdowns, outdoor seating was pretty much criteria #1 and #1A whenever my friends would try to meet up to eat. The food itself mattered, of course, but the outdoor dining situation was far more important to us than how good the food would be. With so many tables available, and West Portal's overall accessibility, it felt like such an convenient and easy place for us to meet up! While I can't say for sure how busy Toast would get prior to COVID, it definitely became one of the more popular destinations in West Portal thanks to their parklet (it feels a lot bigger than most). Although, considering this was their third location in the city (the one on Polk has since shuttered), perhaps they've always been popular and I'm just late to the game. As for service, I agree with the uneven sentiments that others have expressed. One time, everything was perfectly fine. The other, one of the workers seemed really irritated from the start and got annoyed when we stopped him from trying to take away our friend's unfinished plate. Still, despite my mixed feelings about their service, I imagine there'll be more than a few occasions in the future where I'll find myself back at Toast. I may not have been overly impressed by any particular aspect of my experiences, but it's not like anything about them was problematic either. Just stopped by this place in west portal for som brunch with my fam. A huge plus here is they are pet friendly! I was able to bring my pup and sit outside, and there were 3 other groups who also had dogs with them. Sitting outside with the sun was very enjoyable! In terms of service, I had read some review prior so we made sure to be ready to order soon after being sat, and I am glad we did! Our waiter came to us once to take our order, to deliver our waters, and that was it until we asked for the bill. West Portal is now my neighborhood and has been for 1/2 a year. There is something lovely about it... like leave it to Beaver met #MeToo. Nestled in the heart is Toast. We have been twice and both times were yummy. We like yummy. Though the space is a little cold; tile floor, metal chairs, the staff are courteous and efficient. I enjoy watching the chefs hustle in the open kitchen. No bones Eggs Benny, Biscuits swimming in sausage gravy, and hash browns fresh of the grill - soft inside and crunchy outside - no matter what you choose the food is solid. It is a little pricey but I think I just need to adjust my expectations a little. Family friendly and delicious, anyone swinging through West Portal on a rainy day won't be disappointed by a pit stop brunch at Toast. Oddly enough, I have never actually had the toast. My chicken apple sausage was the smaller portion AND it is like 1.5 of a sausage. And the .5 of the sausage was further cut. St tleast at Joe's Broiler they use full size chicken apple sausage. We were extremely disappointed with our experience today. We have been going to the Noe Valley location for years and after today we won't be coming back. The staff seemed more concerned with take away orders than the customers in the restaurant. The bacon was burned so badly that we couldn't eat it. The hollandaise on the side was coagulated and cold. Both of our dishes came to us COLD... not mildly warm, not less than Hot, but actually cold. The service was attentive at first and then we were never checked on after we received our food and instead the waitstaff was sitting and eating at the bar (almost the entire staff at the same time). I went today on a rainy Tuesday and it wasn't so crowded. Two waitresses who I have never seen before were working and said we could sit anywhere. My boyfriend and I ended up grabbing our own menus because they seemed to be busy. We both ordered coffees, which were okay. I've had their lattes before and those were pretty good. We sat near the bar stools next to the kitchen and noticed that the waitresses weren't too attentive and had to wait a little longer. The food this time took a while to get to us and I could see my order (eggs florentine) sitting on the counter for about 10 minutes or so until it came out to us. My order was on the cold side and my boyfriend's omelette was warm but his hash browns were cold. You could tell things started to pick up and I noticed one waitress taking her break while the other one was running around a lot and you could tell she may have been overwhelmed with how she forgot our coffee refills. This place has become one of our go-to's especially when we're in a rush for time before a busy work day. It's a great spot for a quick grab breakfast, although the menu prices for their good all American breakfast can be kind of inflated. We always know our go-to when we're here. Usually, I get the two eggs, with a side of meat, two slices of toast, some bacon, extra crispy hashbrowns, and a black coffee with some cream. I love the way they cook their scrambled eggs here because it's slightly runny and extra yolky soft. My partner sticks with the over easy eggs and the same order. It's interesting how important it is for everyone to have their eggs made and cooked just the way they like to start their morning! I'm glad Toast does that to the tee. Their overeasy eggs never disappoint. I love my potatoes and love that they can fry the hashbrowns to the crispy dark brown shade. Lovely!
