Wow never been to a place where staff is so knowledgeable, greens are grown in house and they have a farmer worker there 24/7...amazin,they have a smoker running 18hours a day.. Sustainability does not mean you have to sacrifice, and Hardware proves that through design, service and taste! The restaurant is gorgeous, which features many recycled decor. The serve was great, especially considering we were a rowdy group of 6! The server was very knowledgeable and offered several suggestions, and making choices for us after we asked for surprise cocktail. All which were delicious. They have an amazing charcuterie board! We ordered the largest, which I believe was 5 meat and 5 cheese. The selection was awesome and unique! I had the skirt steak for dinner. Portions were small and there is no "sides" menu offered except smashed potatoes. My steak came with only a few mushrooms. It was not much to fill me up but luckily I filled up on the board previously. There was a small incident with the check in which we were overcharged but they quickly apologized and corrected it when notified. read more

Worth the drive out here! The place is beautiful, I gawked at the green wall for a bit too long. We had 6:00 reservations outside, and were not disappointed. We arrived a bit early, we were seated on time, and our table was terrific (there were 6 in our group). We had a variety of entrees, cocktails and beer. My boyfriend and I had the baked goat cheese, and it was very flavorful-- the jalapeño jam was a nice touch! I had 2 cocktails, both what the server recommended - Figgin Awesome and Flowerchild. The concept is "sustainable". Hardware Gastropub grows vegetables in their greenhouse. They get their water from their own well/aquifer. They have a small orchard for fruits and nuts. We went for lunch, and as such, everything was very fresh. The turkey pastrami sandwich and bison burger were great; fresh meat - and given the time of year, freshly harvested vegetables. They have fantastic goat cheese and bread with hummus, tomato/jalapeno relish, and a garlic/onion taste that doesn't overwhelm. It is healthy food yet filling. I really wanted bone marov appetizer and it was good for $19 We tried goat cheese appetizer and it was good. Dipping bread was burnt, we had to get rid of black charchoaled ends. My friend ordered eggs and biscuits special, didn't find it satisfying, just...different... I ordered short rib pot pie $23! There was (maybe) one skinny finger of meat in it, three pieces of carrot and 4 pieces of potato in a really bad gravy that you would encounter in a really bad diner. It was topped with a huge biscuit neither of us found tasty at all. Kinda wish I returned my order without paying for it, but I'm not that kind of person. Missed it, drove right by! Double date here on a Saturday, was pretty packed. No room to sit outside but inside was fine. Couple with had pork chop and skirt steak they said both were spectacular. Hubby had pasta w duck ragu and I had fish stew. Licked the bowl it was so good. Duck ragu was super rich would recommend splitting it and ordering another something. Hubby and I went here tonight and we WILL be back. He got the Korean pork fried rice, I got the linguine ragu. Teriyaki bacon as a starter, ho-hos for dessert. The Uncle Joe, figgin awesome and the summer wind to drink. POSITIVE: 1. Our server, Amanda, was amazing. 2. The food was awesome. All of it. The linguine had a beautiful texture, the ho-hos were decadent without being overly sweet, the bacon was so so fun. 3. The summer wind is a drink I will be trying to replicate at home. The figgin awesome is a drink I will be back for. The uncle Joe IPA was good. Complex, fruity, with just the right amount of bite. WHAT I WISH I HAD KNOWN: Request a high top table. When you get there, they're going to ask if you want a high top or standard table. My husband and I said we didn't care and got a standard table. The standard tables are tucked away in a dark, beautiful and intimate space BUT the high tops are adjacent to the impressive bar and what looked like a green house facility. We definitely regretted which side of the restaurant we were sitting on. NEGATIVE: Hubs liked the Uncle Joe so much he asked if they sell it to go. They do - in a 32 oz can. If someone from Hardware reads this review PLEASE sell "normal" sized cans to go. One 32 oz can of beer for one person means a lot of beer is going to get poured down the drain. Everything here looks, tastes and IS fresh. This place is dripping with attention to detail. From the bartop which looks like reclaimed lumber freshly planed, to the Belgian brews that taste like they were poured straight from the hoppers. If they can't grow it on site, they can re-purpose it. What a treat to find this awesome place in the middle of "not much happening right around here". Right off Rte 88 on Orchard Road. The building which is truly unique is built from recycled wood, iron, and more. One entire outside wall is filled with boxes growing greens! They have a hops farm and make beer and a mini distillery. Inside decor is really fun. Feels like you are inside a whiskey barrel with burnt wooden slats for walls and decor taken from old Chicago home. How about a light surrounded by about thousand pennies! It was our first visit on 10/15/22 at 5 pm. We made a reservation for 2. We were seated in the heated patio area, which we did not request, and would have preferred the main dining area. The host did not ask us if we wanted the patio, and it was not crowded at 5:00. I had the short rib pot pie and was disappointed, It was more like a soup. The octopus appetizer was so tough! Octopus is chewy I know, but it was ridiculously rubbery. Flavor profile was good though. The server could have provided more information about the dishes since we told her it was our first time. The server said she could not bring the coffee pot to our table to give refills, so she had to remove our cups each time, which was weird. There were no salt or pepper shakers on the table. We had to ask for bread which then had to be baked, so it took a while to come out. It was good though. We were not offered a dessert menu, or asked if we enjoyed our meal, both of which we expected at such a highly touted establishment. Unfortunately, the food delivered to other diners looked better than ours. My companion had the fish and chips, which was just OK. It seems most diners on the patio got salads, which appeared quite large and is what I would order if we return. I saw a bison burger that looked pretty good too, can't vouch for the taste of course. We may try again, but were underwhelmed for our first visit after all the accolades Hardware has received. Being staunch supporters of sustainable practices, we really wanted to like the place, especially with it being in the suburbs.
