This was my first salon experience. I've never had someone else wash my hair before. I've never had my hair tied up in that towel wrap thing that women put on after a shower. I've never felt pretty before (still haven't). So clearly, my hair has never been as pampered as when Effie washed, conditioned, and carefully cut and styled it herself. As I'm sure you can imagine, I've been going to barbers my entire life, because I've never had enough hair to really worry about how it gets cut. The funny thing about hair though is that it grows. Since I haven't had it cut in seven months (about six months longer than I usually go), now my hair's all long, and I figured if I'm gonna have long hair, I needed someone who knows what they're doing. Well, Effie knows what she's doing for sure. She is very clearly skilled and knowledgable; I've never seen someone systematically attack my head in such a practiced way. She had a plan, whereas most barbers I've been to just have clippers. That said, she did seem to sort of ignore what I asked her to do, and just cut my hair how she thought it should look. I'm not that upset because she made it look good, but I kind of wanted...what I wanted. So if I were you, I would just be super clear about what you want, and I'm sure she can make it work.
I recently had an amazing experience at Hare Studio NYC where I decided to do my green hair peekaboo and it couldn't have been possible without Humphrey! I was extremely impressed by how friendly and professional the staff members were. They took their time to listen to my requirements and how exactly I wanted my hair done. They made suggestions and gave me tips on how best to achieve the ideal look for my hair. Also, super grateful for their patience as well! (The whole process took like 5-6 hours) Overall, I am extremely thrilled with my hair color and highly recommend this salon! I can't wait to come back for my next hair transformation! Thank you so much!
The absolute best. I've been going to Hare Studio regularly since May 2021, when I decided to bleach and dye my naturally black hair into a cool ash blonde color. I get tons of compliments on my hair. It goes without saying that Effie is extremely talented at creating beautiful, even color. When I first bleached and dyed my hair, Effie walked me through the exact shade of blonde I wanted, and applied the bleach and toner in a way that created beautiful consistent color throughout. Not an uneven patch in sight! I now go in every few weeks for a root touch-up, and Effie always makes sure the color looks incredibly seamless. I cannot recommend Hare Studio enough, especially if you're looking to make a bold haircolor change and want to be in good hands.
Amazing haircut by Effie. I showed her a photo and she gave me the most amazing haircut that considered my hair texture and how I like to style my hair. She really listened and checked in with me throughout the cut to make sure I was happy and also styled it pretty close to the photo. Thank you!!! I will be back!
I recommend coming here wholeheartedly!!! It's always hard to find a place that will dye your hair the color you want, but Emily really did an amazing job! She really put a lot of care into the process and I found myself falling asleep quite a few times. Emily made sure that my roots were bleached evenly all throughout. She even goes to explain the health of your hair and offers advice so that your hair can stay as healthy while being dyed. I have long hair that's been pretty damaged due to bleaching and dying it a lot so her advice really helped me out. I've been to many different salons and have dyed, bleached, and cut my hair many different colors and styles and honestly, I felt very comfortable at Hare Studio and was more than in love with the final result. I wanted to get orange hair and the final shade was absolutely beautiful! Literally got compliments 5 minutes out of the salon from random strangers!!! I continued to get compliments throughout the whole month from men and women! The final price was honestly not too bad for manhattan prices and the results were more than satisfactory! I def have been recommending Hare Studio to all my friends whenever they mentioned getting their hair dyed or cut because it's worth it! I came back a second time and was not disappointed. This time, I wasn't sure what I wanted besides rebleaching my roots and having a somewhat light hair color. Emily made some suggestions and honestly it turned out quite beautifully! The end result is a rose color that I ended up really loving!
I've gotten my hair dyed by Emily three times, and my haircut by Effie twice now. Will definitely keep coming back cause they do a fantastic job every time.
I came here for a rose gold ombré/balayage. I've grown to become nervous anytime someone does my hair because in the past I've had bad hair experiences. Emily did my hair and first off, she spent probably 30 minutes carefully discussing what I wanted to do with my hair. Seriously I've never had someone who devoted that much time to really understanding what I wanted. She was very patient and she also explained everything very carefully to me. Also I feel like rose gold is a hard color to get right and I'm extremely happy with the result. When she was taking pictures of me, people even walked by and were complimenting my hair! Emily is an especially nice person and I really enjoyed working with her. Additionally, the studio space is very nice. It's big and has a lot of natural light.
Great place to get your creative color, this is their specialty, any idea you might have they will execute it beautifully, very skillful masters. Emily did my color, it came out AMAZING! No breakage, hair smooth and shiny, they use gentle color system, which delivers beautiful results without ruining your hair. Salon is brand new, very nice inside, bright and clean.
This is my new go to hair salon in NY!! I've gotten my hair done twice here, once by Effie and once by Emily. Effie took me from dark brunette to a pastel silver color and did an incredible job, as well as giving me a haircut! See pictures for the transformation! I returned to get my color toned by Emily, who was also a total pro (forgot to take pics of this sadly). Both of them are lovely and listened to exactly what I wanted before getting started. I never felt rushed or forgotten about while here. The pricing is fair (on the expensive side but normal for NYC) and the salon is well air conditioned and is a nice place to spend a few hours while getting your hair done.
Emily and Humphrey transformed me into a magical mermaid! Check the before photo to see my faded and green-tinted hair (that I dyed myself a few months ago ) and natural black Asian roots. They were able to create a beautiful silvery purple for the body, blending into the dark roots, and then lightened my front pieces for a silver grey money piece. I love this so much! Thank you! I'm floored at how great my color by Emily turned out. I wanted ashy blonde-platinum balayage but also had prior hair adventures (see before photo). I had super dead ends with various toners in the past, and she used different bleach formulations to make sure my hair lightened evenly and as much as possible --without damage. The color and blending from roots to end was obviously tough (took 7+ hrs) but the end result was worth it. Emily listened to what I wanted in terms of color, and asked questions along the way regarding what I wanted for face framing, how I wear my hair, etc for color placement. The salon is super clean and COVID compliant. You can tell all the staff take a lot of pride in their work. I watched several other clients come through and it was awesome to see all the other amazing cut/color transformations.
This is the place to go if you want to stand out with stylish and healthy hair. I absolutely LOVED my experience here at Hare I'll show you before and after pics. So you'll be convinced that hair transformation is possible from the health and the look of your hair. And you'll feel that down to your core. If you're feeling down. Come here ! I used to get all sorts of fantasy colors and changed often. I decided to go more natural but with peekaboo highlights or money pieces and went to another place in the LES. The stylist was nice but just didn't understand what I was looking for. She kept thinking I was going for 90s striped highlights . . She even was looking on her phone "traditional chunky highlights " I still went for it and trusted her and was sad ever since. Until I walked into Hare. First , Coco cut and changed me. Even with the sad color I had I already looked better ! I wanted a bob with bangs. My go but unfortunately not a lot of stylists can do it. Coco did it perfectly. He's a hair wizard with a good soul. He's fun to talk to without talking about the usual weather , Covid etc. I've learned so much about hair products and that's what I like to talk about with my stylists. He loves what he does and is a perfectionist. You will get what you want but with his professionalism and years of experience. Emily colored my hair after the cut. I liked this bc she can see what the color will be with a cut and the damaged ends are gone. Mind you , my hair was damaged before I walked in. She explained everything , and I mean exactly what she was doing with the roots , ends and all in between. She works quickly and quietly. Great products are used here btw. A Japanese brand. I wanted a bright copper and she got it even better than I thought imagined. And here's the best part : my hair is now vibrant , shiny and healthy. They don't try to get you to buy things here. And even recommended a product to use in between colors that is sold online. That's good people right there. Not telling me to come in 2 weeks after to keep the color or whatnot. I walk around proudly with my new do and color and feel great !
I adore my hair, it's a part of my identity. It has always been difficult for me to find the right hairstylist. I am the kind of person who can look at yelp for days and hours to read all the reviews and comments to find the stylist that I can be comfortable with and trust. I have been going to Effie to do my hair for over two years already, and I have been a loyal customer ever since. This is the first time I am dying my hair at her new studio at 152 Allen Street. She always welcomes me with a big smile. She was surprised to hear that I wanted to do hair color this time. She looked at my hair condition and telling me that it will need to bleach two times since I had had drug store color dye before. She patiently explains how long the process will take based on the color that I want (silverish blue, if this is even a color name, lol). She doesn't give me any pressure of dying my hair right away. But I did. Effie's knowledge about hair color was phenomenal and made me feel safe. Her professionalism and what she put into it makes me want to take my time to write this review. She was also very patient explaining to me about the aftercare. The color turned out great. Exactly what I expected and a little more. I am already getting compliments from my friends. I am delighted that I made this bold move, and thank you, Effie for this beautiful color. You are awesome!

This is my must go to hair salon! Effie has been cutting and coloring my hair for the past few years. She is very talented and professional. She always communicated with me and gave me great consultations about my hair style and how to maintain it. Sometimes I didn't know what color I want and I would just leave it to Effie, everytime the result came out was just amazing without any doubt. I received a lot of compliments from friends and family. I cannot recommend this place enough. read more

My hair dreams have come true! For years I chased the elusive ash brown/blonde honey highlights that softly blended with my dark Asian hair. For years I got garish orange and uneven unnatural streaks. Effie, however made magic happen. She asked me questions about my hair type, how I wore my hair naturally, when I last dyed it and finally what I was looking for... Ash brown/blonde that looked natural and not weird on my skin tone, obviously! She said no problem, sprinkled her fairy dust on my bland boring grown out old brownish dye job and I ended up with the hair color of my dreams. Effie literally made me feel like a goddess. My friend recommended me to go to this hair salon so I went and had a great experience here! I absolutely love how my hair color turned out! My hair stylist Emily is so patient to hear me and gave me very professional suggestions in terms of what color fits me well and how to maintain the color. The place is very clean and new. The photos speak volumes. Emily is a very meticulous person with the colors and transitions. She listens to my preferences and concerns, and always blow me way with amazing results. Coloring process can be mundane, but Effie and Emily make it so much more enjoyable -- always a quality and fun time spend at the salon. They also have really good wifi connection. I had to take couple calls during the appointment, Effie and Emily turned down the music and used the lowest setting on blow dryers for others -- these two are so thoughtful and patient in everything they do The price here is actually really good for the services and results in my opinion, similar to what I was paying in Atlanta and LA area. read more

First of all...I used to bleach my own hair and then dye it back to black. So the bottom half of my hair was dyed black. It's super hard to get black hair dye out of hair. But EMILY did an amazing job with my hair and had a lot of patience with the whole process. And then she did these photos and videos with the cool lighting setup. (I've never done that before lol.) Effie is a magician! She has such a creative eye for executing the perfect color. Not only does the color last but she has a technique for perfecting balayage that creates contrast and depth. I love that I can show her a picture and she not only nails it but she makes it look even better than the picture you showed her! The studio itself is beautiful and super clean! read more

Hair was done by Jackson, he's an amazing hair stylist! I allowed him to choose the style and hair color and he popped off. Great experience! The salon was such a calm environment with nice people. When this color fade might have to come back, the quality products they used were amazing. highly recommend Jackson to do your hair, he takes his time to get things perfect and not rush. read more

Hair Studio is the one you must go to！ When I enter into the studio，they made me feel welcome right away .Effie and Emily they was very friendly and nice. My hair was super damaged and dry，I was trying to get my hair done but，she said my hair is too damaged . She asked what kind of hair color i want and i showed her the picture. Then she asked me what color I would like to have in the future. I told her I wanted to make another color in the future, but I have n't thought about it yet. Then we talked a lot. During this time I felt reassured because we all know hair is very important to girls. During the hair dyeing process, she told me how to keep my hair healthy and told me how to maintain and maintain my color after dyeing my hair. She told me a lot of very professional advice. Finally，i was so excited because she say my hair after bleaching is still healthy enough to do it. we both knew that my hair will be struggle because of my previous hair. Def recommend this place if you are looking to get your hair colored! I've been here twice and Emily did an amazing job both times. I previously had my hair done by friends but the quality didn't turn as great. I also learned a lot about the process and how to take care of my hair. Emily was really nice enough to explain how it works and she was very attentive to detail. I was concerned with how the color would look over time but it turned out so great that I went back to get a touch up. Overall had an amazing experience and highly recommend Emily to work on your hair. read more

My unique hair color is a huge part of my personal image and I have exclusively been seeing Effie as my colorist for the past year. She works literal magic with color. I initially came in with a disastrous green/brown splotchy hair color that was done at home with months of overgrowth and she was able to correct all the different bands and perfectly interpreted the fantasy color that I wanted. My hair grows so fast and I came back again! Effie cut my hair today. I love it! Nothing to complain. I went to so many places and they don't know how to cut my hair. Maybe I'm Asian ? a lot hairstylist said Asian hair is hard to cut but Effie did a AMAZING job! If you need a haircut definitely recommend Effie! read more

The staffs are so professional and nice. I was so nervous to get my hair perm for the first time.I don't even know how it looks like. Humphrey searched some pictures about all the different kinds of perms and explained to me how to keep the perm looks nice and how to style with the perm. He was patient with my questions. I'm satisfy after we finished the perm. That little curl looks pretty good. Feeling comfortable in the salon. The neighborhood it's good, it has restaurants, bar and some groceries, it's pretty good to hang out. Anyway, thanks Humphrey for doing my hair perm and the haircut after by Effie. I would recommend any guy's to here for perm and cut :) read more

Humphrey did a very good job. He is very nice and professional, and the color just came out exactly as I expected. He patiently explains how long the process will take and tells me what he is going to do for each step. In the end, he shows me how to maintain the color and how to use an iron to style my hair. Hare Studio uses high-quality products. Even though I dyed my hair a couple times before, my hair still looks hydrated and healthy. There's no damage at all. First off the location is great, it's in Brooklyn and close to Manhattan. I drove there and used meter parking, which was annoying (I do not suggest doing this because it only allows you to park for 1 hour-so take the train [R,W] or parking in a parking lot and pay for the fee.) It's located inside of a Vivi's Bubble Tea, so you get free bubble tea at your appointment! How great is that!!? The store is also close to many food places, right next to Checkers and a short walk to McDonald's and Popeyes! We were there forever so we ordered food and ate there. But anyways... Effie is an AMAZING (amazing is actually an understatement). I met her through my cousin who had gone to her for years at another salon. We are so glad she was able to open her own salon! She deserves all the success that comes from this because her hands are truly magic. This is my second appt. with her starting at 11:00am and concluded at 9:00pm, 10 hours of work put into this hair and it came out amazing!!! The ombre colors I went for was dark grey to light grey, and my hair was already bleached twice already. My hair was damaged when I came in with my natural color mixed with a brassy light blonde and cool blonde tips. I came out of there with Pinterest/Instagram quality hair...I was astonished. All that sitting and the overall price is SO worth it. And I WILL be back for my birthday next year for pastel pink hair.. :) **The salon takes venmo payment or cash payments only** Don't worry there are a couple banks around with ATMs (Chase, TD Bank, Bank of America) so don't panic if you didn't have time to take any out before you come. read more

I travel from flushing all the way to lower Manhattan because no where else in queens can compare. As someone who goes back to the salon every few months, finding a trustworthy and knowledgeable stylist is super important. After losing trust in my old stylist in I was in need of looking for a new hair colorist & upon doing my research I ultimately decided on Hare Studio and I'm so glad I did. My stylist is Emily, she is just wonderful and so talented in what she does. I conveyed to her what I wanted and she delivered exactly that and more. I'm so glad I found a new go to stylist because I can tell Emily is genuinely passionate in what she does. I tell everyone around me about this place!!! I high recommend everyone who is interested coloring their hair to come here, definitely won't regret it! read more

Let's just start off with the fact that I am extremely picky about who cuts my hair, let alone color it. I made an appointment with Effie after doing EXTENSIVE research and multiple meetings with different hair stylists. Not one of them instilled a feeling of reassurance that they knew exactly what they were doing, except Effie of course. My best friend also got her hair done by Effie so I knew I could trust her with my hair. She was very flexible with making an appointment and even though I had to change the appointment once AND was a teeny bit late to it, she was very accommodating. She double processed my hair, and it took wayy less than it would usually take to lift the black off my hair. She also toned it to a beautiful icy platinum blonde and used a treatment to keep my hair from being fried. Then she dyed it the EXACT shade of blue gray that I wanted. It was literally spot on. She also basically gave me full blown haircut even though she only charged me for a trim. So very sweet of her. She took her time to meticulously show me my hair, seeing if I liked it or not, then even fulfilled my nit-picky request for a little bit more texture. In the end she curled and styled my hair, then took a few pictures. I can truly recommend this place to someone who really wants what they are paying for. The quality of care and attention to detail cannot be met anywhere else. Did I mention she gave me a free HUGE bubble tea because the hair studio is located inside a bubble tea shop? LOL. I definitely found my favorite hair stylist in New York. read more

Effie is great! We both talked about what I wanted and I was able to show her some pictures of some of the styles I was thinking about. She and her assistant did a great job! It's definitely worth the money. Attention is given to every strand of your hair and you'll get exactly what you want, no surprises! Quick tip: the salon is located in the back of vivis, don't ring the bell in the residential building like I did! read more

This is the first review I've ever made . I normally would never bother with writing reviews but my experience with Effie just completely amazing! Effie did a truly amazing job on my hair!!! First of all she's super friendly while maintaining her professionalism, and second of all, she was very attentive to look that I wanted and give her recommendation beyond her experience. I ended up getting a beautiful balayage blond style, it takes 4 hours, and everything's went so smoothly. She painted my hair so beautifully that I could not be happier! On the way home someone on the subway actually comprises my hair and ask where I get that!!! I told her my stylist is EFFIE! She is the only person I want to do with my hair! Many thanks EFFIE!!! This studio is SO GREAT! Before I went here I already color my hair twice which I did not very statisfy. Untill I met Effie, she is such a great barber! I was little bit worried if I could still colored my hair because it was damaged, but she just told do not worried so much , and let give some adivce about the color that l could choice,.and how it works. Another things that I impressed is that they aked me if I feel anything is uncomfortable, like if I feel pian when she do up my hair, or feel itch. The whole process is not very long but great, and the color is exactly what I want! That was so so beautiful! I definitely willcome next time, and I should tell my friends to come! read more

I was looking for a good hair stylist on Instagram, and Effie's page came up(hairbyeffie), I saw these incredible hair styles, so I thought I could try something out because I totally ruined my hair by dying brown color at home. Then I came to Hare Studio, they were very friendly, and Effie saw my hair, immediately knew what she needed to do with my hair. I know I have a problem of hair loss, and she figured out many ways to make my hair look plumped. To start off, she first cover the old color on my hair roots with light brown, after 15 minutes, then she mixed a very pleasant color and Emily did the layer by layer below my roots and made sure everything was dyed. Expectedly, the color came out really great, hair is evenly dyed and not one single spot missed out. I thought my hair would be very dry but turns out it's so shiny and nourished. Then they styled and conditioned my hair. Very patient and sophisticated staff. read more

This is my second time coming to Hare Studio and it's always been amazing experience! Effie is not only good at consulting the hair color and style that you desire but also has done it very well. She is very professional and transparent about each color process such as breaching, toner, coloring and let you know how it will be the whole time. I love my new hair color! It's even better that my hair still feel healthy and smooth after the color transformation. I would recommend Hare Studio for anyone who wants to experience a good/fun/exciting hair color and still have healthy hair at the end of the day. read more

Do they use olaplex in their bleaching treatments?
Yes, Effie used Olaplex treatment when she lightened my hair, but I believe it was an additional charge for the treatment. She also showed me the Olaplex to buy for home and advised me on how to use it to help repair my hair from previous damage.
