If you go for happy hour.. definitely worth it. However, just note that if you have an allergy.. make sure your waiter actually puts in the notes that it's an allergy. He didn't even seem to know what was going on. Most of the rolls had tempura or "crunchies" and I asked him if it was gluten free to which his response was "I think so, it's tempura and fried.." and then I asked if one of the rolls was gluten free which he said yes, most of our rolls are.. and when the roll came out it was deep fried in tempura!!! When I questioned him, he said yes it's seaweed... and then finally another waitress heard and seemed her sister has Celiac's so she understood my concern and then said "we should probably check on that" ... and guess what - it wasn't gluten free! Also we ordered another roll.. went 15 mins and no roll.. finally asked the manager what's going on and he said there was no roll rung up. I don't know what was going on with that waiter but hate to say it - I would NOT go back there specifically because I don't trust that the waiters will actually care about an allergy! We LOVE the old town location so we were excited to try some of the rolls at the oceanside location. We came here as a party of 5 and got around 8 rolls and ALL of them were good. Favorites were definately the sea spider, en fuego roll, sassy salmon, and rollz royce. Love how this location has more roll options than the old town location, but cant go wrong going to either spot. We are huge fans and will keep coming back. read more

Living in Oceanside has been a blessing and especially with all the varieties of food available. One of my favorite places to go out to is Harney Sushi. Harney Sushi is located conveniently on the corner of Mission Ave, a block before the train-tracks. This means you can see them and stop in just as you're going to the beach! Harney Sushi is known for their hip, upbeat interior with trendy Neo-Asian inspired decor. It's very spacious inside and they even have outdoor seating on their patios. They've got poppin' music that reminds me of a hip lounge and the lighting sense a nice calming ambiance. There's a huge full bar with televisions for sports fans and I love that you can see the kitchen from the dining area and I appreciate that transparency. The service is excellent and you'll be greeted by some of the friendliest servers, that work fast and are not too intrusive while dining. We got dinner here during our visit from LA. The customer service was great, all the servers were nice and friendly. The vibe was also great. The food however was very average. The spicy garlic edamame was not good at all and the shishito peppers were just grilled peppers, waste of money on both. We tried a roll with steak (don't remember the name) and that was pretty good and very unique! The edamame was $7, shishito peppers $9, the roll was $20 on the menu but we were charged $21. They charged some sort of service fee that we didn't know about. I also asked for a side of eel sauce and was charged $1 for it. I was a waitress for 7 plus years and used to let my customers know about every single additional charge when they asked for something so I usually expect the same from a GOOD server! We were seated at our table, which was properly spaced apart at a safe distance and indulged in a sushi dinner. One new thing to note is that soy sauce, wasabi and ginger are no longer at the table when you walk in. The server brings that to you and pours the soy in the dish for you or on your rice, in your miso soup, etc. We ordered a lot but ate every last bite: chicken katsu, harney salad, flaming lip roll, California roll, miso soup, Sapporo and a lemon drop martini. Harney's is very beautiful inside! It's cozy. Unfortunately there's a really cold draft right by the wall near the restrooms...to the back left of the restaurant. It wasn't coming from the patio but from the vent above. We've had issues the last 3 visits to Harney's. Our family wants to like it SO badly because the food is great, but there's always a problem. Two visits ago, the hosts were very rude. That didn't deter us from enjoying the food. But this most recent time, we waited over 45+ minutes for food. Our server did comp the food that did took too long but even one of the rolls we received was missing an ingredient we had asked for. We waited so long that we did not even want to mention it to have it replaced. She was very apologetic and took care of us which we appreciated. Everything that had gone wrong was out of her control. Otherwise, we do like the sushi at Harney's! It's always fresh. Prices are a little steeper than other sushi restaurants but considering the location in Oceanside and the ambiance, it makes sense. Street parking or the lot near the train station is available. Restrooms were clean. We have came here on a few Thursdays when the Sunset Market is happening and they are generally not packed then, despite the amount of people walking around. :) read more

We ate at some outdoor tables at a nearby plaza. Miso soups had great flavor. Kids shared a chicken teriyaki plate with rice. I was happy to see a generous portion of veggies added to the dish. Husband and I had pot stickers and 3 different rolls - Bomb, James Bomb; Chuck Norris; and Rollz Royce. Personally, I loved the Rollz Royce best. Ingredients were fresh and flavorful. I love Harney's and I'm so torn on taking off a star but I have a member of my family that orders their Tofu Crunch roll every time she visits. She loves that roll and would wait for it for an hour and unfortunately that's almost how long it sometimes takes to get. I need to remember to order it with the appetizer because if I order it with everyone else's meals it will usually come as everyone else is finishing. I shouldn't have to give a 30 minutes heads up on a tofu crunch roll. I'm not sure why this place gets a lot of good reviews. We ordered 3 rolls, 3 nigiris, fried rice and calamari. Fried rice was bland, I had to add more soy sauce to add more flavor. Sushi was so disappointing. The amount of rice they put made me feel like I'm at an all you can eat sushi place. 18-20$ for a sushi, but how disappointing that was. I live in Las Vegas, and the only place you pay with this price are the best sushi places in town. This place is so mediocre, maybe they need to train their sushi chefs the perfect fish and rice ratio... The only great thing I liked about this place was the service that's why I'm giving a 3 star. Sitting at the sushi bar, I always enjoy striking up a conversation with the staff. Most other sushi bars, they dont want you to talk to them, distract them, just simply order and be gone.... at Harney, they will engage in a conversation, tell you about where they learned, share their life story and you can share yours. It's like the bartender for those more interested in sushi than beer! 5) SELECTION. I wanted to stop here, because their selection is ABOVE and BEYOND the 'standard' rolls you find everywhere else. There is ORIGINALITY in their rolls, in both NAME and COMPOSITION. Just go down the list of house rolls... you will want to order them all. We went there Saturday night at 8:30 for a dinner party of seven. We were put into what seemed a nice private are where we could enjoy ourselves in conversation. It was horrible. We got up and left in 5 minutes. They had a DJ ( which could have been nice) playing so loud the room shook. We could hear anything without scream and them it was just a scream. We like the food there but began to get physically sick from noise. Initially tried to get waitress to ask DJ to turn our speaking around but got snarky answer that she'd ask him to lower volume. Mins you this was 8:30 in main dinning room. Well Harney just lost customer and $500 for dinner. We went Blue Ocean in CBad and had a great time. It is rare to find a sushi place with an extensive vegan and vegetarian menu. It is even more rare for the rolls to be so inventive and fun Then for it to be fresh and delicious on top of that! I loved the sushi here, it was fantastic! I don't even like kiwi but man kiwi and mango and fresh onions on the New Zealander was just genius. My husband loved his Anna roll and he doesn't normally like salmon The ambiance is easy going. We wanted to sit outside due to Omicron concerns and they made sure to turn on the heater for us. We didn't realize that they opened just 3 days before we visited. However there is much to work on. We went on a Sunday afternoon and it was not too busy; just a handful of tables had customers. We were sat quickly and served water. The waitress came over shortly after and took our order. We decided to get a half dozen oysters and 2 of their specialty rolls. The oysters took a little while but not too bad of a wait. They were DELICIOUS! Small but had such great flavor and texture. It was also served with a horseradish mixture and a hot sauce that I think had lemon squeezed in because it was citrusy and tangy. Then we waited for our rolls. And waited. And waited. It was a long wait until they finally arrived considering they weren't busy; about 20-30 minutes. Unfortunately I can't say they were worth the wait. The sassy salmon had waaaaay too much going on and the flavors were too muddled together. The Maui Wowie was ok. Almost like a California roll with the teensiest of an upgrade. The quality of the fish was nice but for being fresh rolls they were room temperature which I don't like. They seemed overpriced for what you actually get. The waitress was nice and attentive and the restaurant is beautiful and trendy. I'm not sure if the sushi chefs aren't familiar with the rolls yet or the items we ordered just weren't the right ones for us, but the food lacked flavor and was disappointing. Nice location and decor. The people there were friendly as well. Our group ordered some appetizers, which came out super quick. When it came to the meal, that was a different story. I ordered a bento box of chicken katsu, which came out in good time, but the rest ordered sushi, which came out when I was pretty much done with my food. Also, if you are looking for katsu sauce, they make their own specialty (mayo mixed with teriyaki sauce....that's what the server said). Just a bit strange to eat katsu without the actual katsu sauce. Everyone else said their meal was good, which was great, since we were there to celebrate a birthday. :) I think if it wasn't for the long wait for food and missing katsu sauce, I would have rated this place a 5 star. We found this sushi place here on Yelp. I checked in on the Yelp waitlist. The hostess where great, we got seated before your waitlist quote time. Mr Lee was our server, I was expecting better service according to the posted reviews that raved about the service which is why I chose the restaurant. Our service was slow, it took a long while to get our drinks, then appetizer than food, however our child's order came our prompt which is why we left somewhat of a decent tip. We ordered the Bruce Lee, Chuck Norris and James Bomb. everything was delicious! Great Job Chef's!! I am a firm believer that you don't go out to eat unless you can tip properly.
