Our waiter was on point making sure to be quick and polite. He gave us 5% off for being members to the oceans, which was something that made us feel nice as he went out of his way. This place has amazing breakfast! I ordered the 2 egg plate and it was nice to see that they had Gluten Free toast! The grits were so cheesy (I added Cheddar) and buttery. The flavor was so good I havent had grits that yummy in a LONG time. The chicken apple sausage was a little sweet fot me but overall the entire breakfast was amazing. It was about a 20 minute wait which was bad considering the restaurant was PACKED (which is always a good sign) Great location right off the water made for a very calming wait. We came here for my boyfriend's birthday brunch and had the most amazing time. We were greeted as soon as we sat down and were given the smoothie of the day to sample while we looked over the menu. Absolute safety failure -- 1 star only We had breakfast at Happer's one morning. We ordered bourbon sticky buns and Quiche Lorraine, plus French coffee. Mid-bite, my husband bit into a jagged sharp shard resembling glass or hard plastic baked inside the pastry. Our server Stacy was kind and professional; she apologized to us right away once we showed her the dangerous debris. Unfortunately, when she brought over the manager, management's response felt excessive and unsettling. They called a security officer to scan my husband's driver's license and required us to write and sign an official incident statement. Later, the kitchen chef admitted the hazardous fragment came from Happer's kitchen. The restaurant comped our bill to apologize, yet this careless error could lead to devastating injuries. If a child had eaten this pastry, choking or life-threatening internal tearing could be a very real danger. The last time we stayed at Oceans we came across this place as we were leaving and decided the next time we stayed we were gonna go. That brings us to today. We had a 1030 reservation and were seated within 5 minutes of arriving. We had pregamed the menu on the TV in room, but ofcourse once we got there we changed our minds We got the sticky bun to share...and glad we only ordered the one because it is HUGE! You can see the remnants of it in my picture. Perfect level of sweet served in a skillet! Let it sit a minute because it's hot. Very disappointing overall. The food was either completely bland or overwhelmingly seasoned. We tried to branch out and order some of the more unique items on the menu rather than sticking with the basics like pancakes and eggs -- that turned out to be a major mistake. As I walked around the restaurant, I noticed that nearly every table had the "safe bets": bacon, eggs, and pancakes. Now I see why. Since it was our first time here, we wanted to try dishes that you don't usually get for breakfast. The quiche lorraine had no flavor whatsoever. The poached egg on the mitake mushroom benedict was so overcooked it was almost gummy -- I didn't even know you could get that kind of texture in a poached egg. The mushroom and the home fries were similarly bland and under-seasoned. The shrimp and grits, on the other hand, were completely overpowered by whatever blend of spices they used. And apparently, they love crispy fried onions here, because they top nearly everything with them. In my experience, touches like that are often used to cover up poor cooking in the kitchen. Also worth noting: the cappuccino came out lukewarm. No flavor, bland sides, and an overall underwhelming experience -- especially considering the prices. We probably won't be returning. We went to Harper's around 1 PM on a Sunday, there was no wait and we were seated promptly. We were immediately greeted by someone that filled up our water cups and within a minute or two our server Mike came by and promptly brought coffee over. The coffee was wonderful. Harper's made my list after doing some research on notable trendy brunch spots in AC. Upon arrival we were greeted by the hostess, informed them about our reservation and were promptly seated. However, the food left more to be desired. Before we ordered, our waiter, Nancy gave us complimentary mango smoothies in shot glasses. For starters, we had the sticky bun which was quite large but good to share with our group. Our waiter, Nancy, did warn us that the portions were large and suitable for sharing. I could tell the bun was not fresh but the flavor was decent. We definitely had other patrons looking over at our table because I think the size of the dish brought on some attention. The hot chocolate was a decent size and flavorful. It reminded me of rich flavored hot chocolate from my childhood. I ordered the egg white omelet but forgot to ask if I could replace the mozzarella cheese with cheddar cheese. I'm not a morning person and rarely wake up in time to go have breakfast. Staff were all friendly and polite. Our waiter "Hao" greeted us and even offered us a shot glass strawberry smoothie. And I really appreciate that. Now, usually when I do go for breakfast the portion is small at other places and afterward I'll be hungry for more but not Harper's! They have some pretty big plates of food. I would have to say, I almost couldn't finish my food. I recommend getting their French press coffee. Waiter brings you a pot and you press the coffee down. It is on a pricey side but you get about 4-5 cups out of it. I gotten the blueberry pancakes. Pancakes were packed with fresh blueberry. You know it's fresh because the blueberries wasn't syrupy or gooey. Also comes with whipped cream on the top. Such a tasty breakfast. Bourbon Sticky Bun Presentation is fantastic. The caramelized pecans were great. The cream topping should've been allowed to get to room temperature. Since it was so cold it made bites with ice cold pockets. The bun itself is recycled warmed up making it dry and stale in the middle. This would be amazing if freshly baked in the morning and when they sell out it's gone for the day. It definitely tasted day old that was warmed up. They at least got the golden color of the fry. The cornbread waffle was dried out. The only good item was the mustard drizzle sauce. It tasted like it sat under a heat lamp and was made a while ago. Grits They are made with water! If you are southern don't even bother getting them. The ratio of water is way too much. Yes it's creamy in presentation, there's not enough butter fat or heavy cream to give it the rich goodness that grits are supposed to have. I opted to get the Harper's waffles, which was four waffles topped with berries and whipped cream. They were pretty tasty, but also very big and I did not finish it. My biggest complaint was that I did not think our waitress was very good. She did not ask us if we wanted drinks for example. Additionally, she was not very professional in speaking to us. Not pictured is an espresso martini I had, they made it with baileys how I like but it didn't hit like back home. I live like 15 minutes from Ocean Casino but I've never been. So why not Christmas Morning for brunch. Located in the hotel's lobby so we had a lot of cool things to look at while we waited. We made reservations for 12:30 but we got a real early. I didn't want to sit at a lobby table, but after we were sitting a bit I liked it. Lots to see while my family were on their phones. The mimosas and drinks were good, but the "starters" bourbon sticky bun (fantastic) flatbread (very good) took some time getting to us and I was afraid they would bring them out with breakfast. That gave us a good 5 min before they brought them out sooo. My wife liked her salmon BLT and my son liked his Harper Burger. They both said the french fries which were top-notch. Since all four of us wanted coffee, we got a four-cup french press at the table, $16.00. Coffee was good, hot. Everyone wanted a refill - THEY CHARGE FOR REFILLS. I ordered a simple omelet with rye toast. I bit into the toast and it was like biting into stale gum. It was so hard and chewy. We were the first ones at the restaurant! How old could that bread have been? We had a simple breakfast - four coffees, omelet with home fries and toast and two orders of pancakes. That's it. OVER $200. Our server was nice enough but VERY VERY difficult to understand. English was not his native language and we had to ask him to repeat himself many times. So was it good? Yes it was pretty good. One taste and you can tell the difference. The serving sizes are plentiful for a big eater like myself and the proteins are always cooked to perfection.
