Harpoon Brewing provided a very satisfying experience with the two beers that Steve and I enjoyed from here. One of the beers was from the UFO Brand of beers. There are several different brands of beer associated with this company and the UFO Beer was a different brand but associated with the same company. This beer was a very refreshing Witbier of the Blanche beer classification. Nice and easy to drink this light beer has a nice smooth body with citrusy and sweet flavor elements. A nice beer for sure and one you could easily have more than one of in one sitting. But the beer that really won us both over was the Harpoon branded beer the Interrobang. This was a stout that came in with a mean 18% ABV. Glad we shared this baby but it was so very delicious! This beer has a nice, boozy approach. It is quite strong and has sweetness and coffee flavors that are highly enjoyable. Definitely one worth getting again but this is a beer you don't want to play around with in any way, shape or form. Always drink responsibly and with this one be extra responsible. But it is a good sharing beer and that is definitely worth keeping that in consideration. read more

Harpoon is such a fun place. It's a little disorienting when you first enter as it is seat yourself and you have to go up to the bar to order food and drinks. After years of enjoying just about everything these people come up with, I was so happy to visit their home base. My wife and I went for a tasting on a slow Monday afternoon. They have a variety of areas inside and outside to pass the time and enjoy their beer. During the week they do tastings that are light on the beer process, but heavy on the samples. We were in a group of 4 and had virtually unlimited samples for $5. We had a blast here after checking out the seltzer land event outside. I loved the medieval looking lighting, the communal tables, and the board games. We enjoyed playing dominos competitively while ordering some snacks. Highlights include the cinnamon sugar pretzel, with a caramel sauce and a creamy dipping sauce, and the pepperoni slice, with those perfectly cupped pepperonis. Those that had beers enjoyed them. One friend got a stout, and my bf got the IPA and also got to taste one of their newer brews that had a lemony flavor to it- which I tasted and liked. They also have hard seltzer and a couple of Vermont beer brands. I hadn't known that had acquired Long Trail and Otter Creek, which I have always loved, so it was nice to see a few things from them there as well. Was so excited to come back. And it lived up to my memory! The IPA cheese is like a German spatzle dip with no pasta, full of incredible cheeses onion flavor with a hint of hoppyness from the IPA. Among the best of the beer in Boston. Harpoon is a local brewery that also is pretty popular across the country. It has a brewpub with some food like pizza and pretzels. Get a sampling of what they have to offer at pretty decent prices for around here. Tours are available and these include tastings. I checked this out with the girl to have some beer and food. It was busy in the early evening and we had to squeeze in to get a seat at the bar, which we were able to get. The bar is in the middle of the brewery, which is like an old big warehouse. It most likely was a long time ago. The tour is worth going to at least once. As for the beer, it's the main thing of course. Lots of fun sounding styles. I had a Big League. It's $7 for a pint. This is a lager that's real smooth. In addition we had a Famous Salted Pretzel. It's $6.50 and this is a pretty interesting looking one as far as pretzels. This is real fluffy unlike most of these. It's not a twisted one but rather it's a knot. This comes with a choice of dipping sauce. A good one is the ale mustard. The other popular food item seems to be pizza. Check it out for beer and food. It has tours which are kind of fun. The prices aren't bad for any of these. read more

Harpoon Brewery & Beer Hall is a craft brewery and beer hall that opened in Boston, Massachusetts in 1986. It was founded by friends Dan Kenary, Rich Doyle and George Ligeti. The three friends all met in college and soon learned that they were all passionate about beer. They were constantly disappointed in the fact that they couldn't find beers to their liking in local bars. They traveled to Europe after college and were immediately impressed with the diverse brewing scene there. In an effort to bring that kind of culture to Boston, they came up with the name 'Harpoon Brewery' and received the first brewing permit for the state of Massachusetts. They obtained a building, brewing equipment, and hired Russ Heissner as the brewmaster. The original 'Harpoon Ale' finally debuted to local bars in June 1987. In 1993, they released 'Harpoon IPA'. This beer has since become their flagship beer and helped to make Harpoon the brewery that it is today. In 2000, the company purchased the former Catamount Brewery in Windsor, Vermont. This enabled the company to brew and distribute on a much larger scale, as they had reached full capacity at the Boston facility. In 2013, Harpoon opened their 6,000-square-foot Beer Hall and Visitor's Center on the second floor of their Boston facility. This gave customers a modern brewery tasting room experience. My wife and I first visited Harpoon Brewery & Beer Hall in April 2018. The Beer Hall was a really nice space overlooking Boston's Seaport District. We wanted to take a tour of the brewing facility, but by the time we arrived all tours had already been booked for the rest of the day. Instead we decided to order some taster flights. We ordered and shared the 'Harpoon Flight' and the 'IPA Flight'. Our favorite offering was "Juicer": a hazy New England IPA. We purchased a pack of cans to take home. Harpoon also make delicious pretzels in their kitchen with leftover brewing yeast. We ordered a parmesan pretzel with marinara dipping sauce. It was delicious and paired well with our flights. On a Sunday afternoon I decided to go on a brewery tour and definitely not to justify day drinking. Tours happen every hour on the half hour mark, so I paid $10 for my ticket and waited for the tour to start. The tour, which lasted an hour, explained the basic process of beer brewing, highlighted some specific equipment (e.g. an automated keg filler), explained the brewery's history, and ended with a tasting at a private tap room, with a dozen options available to taste. After the tour ended, I went to the beer hall and ordered some more beers (~$7-9ea). From the Boston Irish Stout (think Guinness but locally made and slightly drier) to the Hometown Hat Trick (a dry hopped pilsner), everything seemed solid. I also ordered a pretzel ($6.5) for snacking. The dough seemed extra springy; the tour mentioned that spent mash from the brewing process goes into the pretzel dough to give that extra chewiness. The ale mustard tasted like Dijon mustard, but slightly less viscous and slightly less sharp. It can still go into the nose on a large dollop. The IPA cheese possessed an interesting consistency, almost like a puree. Otherwise, the cheese seemed like a mild white cheese, and the flavor of alcohol would pop up occasionally. Overall, these details make Harpoon's pretzel stand out. From tour to tasting to pretzel, everything seemed enjoyable and reasonably priced. The tour price seemed almost criminally low. Having nothing seem off or being nitpick-able cements this as a place to which to return. read more

We were looking to visit a brewery while we were in town and heard from someone back home that this one was solid. They offered a brewery tour/tasting for $10 a head and it was a few minute walk from our hotel so of course we went for it. The tour was super informative, the tour guides were super friendly, and the tasting part was the best. For about 10 minutes, we got to taste as much as we wanted of what they had in their side taproom. It was crazy to learn all about one of THE oldest breweries around. We definitely had to grab a few beers and some food in their main room before we left too. We got the Salted Pretzel and Cinnamon Sugar Pretzel. I have to say, the BEST soft pretzels I've ever eaten. The bacon ranch and IPA cheese for the salted pretzel and the cream cheese and caramel dipping sauces they put on the side, also the best dips! Also got lucky to get the Clown Shoes Mango, a beer we've been searching for for a while and it was just as refreshing as I remember. If you don't like being around people, don't come on a Saturday afternoon on a nice day like we did. It was super packed so keep that in mind. Was visiting Boston and was so glad to finally check out Harpoon Brewery! The vibe was lively and perfect for friends gatherings. The employees were also super friendly and helpful. When we were about to sit down, there was a lot of water on the seat but one of the employees took care of it promptly which we greatly appreciate. We got one of the UFO flight and the pretzel. The pretzel was honestly so good and I really like how there's so many sauce options to choose from. You can't go wrong with this item! My friends and I came here for the holly Jolly bar. $38 per person for a reservation. The value was not there. The reservation did not include an assigned seat(very annoying, we had to wait for a group to get up). You are not assigned a waiter. They are short staffed, many of my friends had to wait 15+ minutes to order a drink at the bar. On top of that there is a time limit. The Christmas decorations were nice but I could have walked into any other bar in Boston decorated and not have to pay this silly cover fee + 1 drink. I got the mulled cider and so did one of my friends. Mine tasted like they emptied the bottle of alcohol in it while my friend's drink tasted like lightly spiked cider from the Basket. read more

It was like eating Froot Loops or Capt Crunch, ya know the cereal that rips the roof of your mouth? Weird vibe- huge room, nominal people. Friendly enough but I had 1 beer and ate most of the pizza out of necessity. Maybe I caught them on a bad pizza day but it wasn't great, at all. Harpoon ended up being one of our favorite places during our east coast trip, especially for the blueberry beer. We came here and decided to do the 30 minute tour- it was only $5 per person & was basically a sample as much beer as you want while the guide talked. It was interesting to learn about the different brands associated with Harpoon & some of their history. My other favorite beer was their stout- it was on nitro so tasted extra creamy but not too heavy. After the tour, we each got a beer and tried their pretzel. The pretzel was ok but I really enjoyed the garlic Parmesan dipping sauce. There are some other food options available too. We sat inside but there is a pretty cool outdoor space that has games and beer/food available as well. Great Time All Around. When I lived in Boston 5 years ago, I came here mostly with friends. Came back to Boston most recently for a conference at the Boston Convention Center and it's about a 10-15 minute walk from there. Got a pint and flight of some big tasters for about $16 which isn't terrible for Boston. They also have some NFL games on and RedZone, which was a big from my husband. The pretzel is also good. If you're here during pumpkin season get it with the sugar rim (one of my favorite fall things in Boston). read more

Harpoon has made functioning during a pandemic their full-time commitment. My husband and I have been wanting to visit Harpoon for years but something always got in the way. Although the pandemic has made things not terrific wherever you go, we were at the very least able to make a reservation here, which was not something that could happen pre-pandemic. So, with an outdoor reservation and the knowledge that we could only have cans in their outdoor spaces, we went for it. Everything was safe and clean and the service couldn't have been better. Their makeshift set-up is legit and I genuinely enjoyed my time here. Although we could only have cans, my husband and I made the most of it by getting a few plastic cups and making our own flights. This way, we could taste a few beers and not feel like we were missing out. Inside the brewery you are still able to order flights and all other things they offer. Outside is a little restricted, but clearly the safest option. We will definitely be back. It's one of the few places we've felt safe dining at. read more

I did a flight, not sure how big the pours were, bigger than 4oz, I think but at $15 a pop! The first time I ever visited Boston, a friend recommended Harpoon brewery. We dropped by for a tour and some amazing autumn drinks, and I haven't stopped coming back since. Ever since I officially moved to Boston, this brewery has become a staple of my life as a newly converted Masshole! Be aware, the tours do get sold out quickly so you must coordinate and arrive ahead of time. Harpoon is awesome and I would love to go back! They are currently doing limited walk ins, so make a reservation if you can. We didn't, but we decided to wait around for a table to open up and ended up getting a spot to sit. They are doing contact tracing for COVID. We were actually notified a few days after our visit that someone working that day had tested positive. I appreciate the quick follow up. Currently, you're limited to 90 minute stay, but the staff will warn you when you're approaching the end of the time. You order from your phone so it's limited contact with staff. You have to order food with your first round. We got the pretzel which was super good! Highly recommend. It's made from their beer. We got the mustard and cheese sauce with it. Both were great, but the mustard was truly incredible. I tried two flights and thought their beer was great. The Harpoon IPA is classic and delicious. read more
