Saturday evening we stopped in for a celebration dinner here and we were seated right away, but this was before the dinner rush. Dale was a wonderful server, very attentive and funny while remaining professional. We did have to utilize the free parking garage about a block away. The atmosphere here was very cozy and well lit, we started off with happy hour cocktails which were so delicious we tried all of them. From the Duchess, the spritz, mule royale and the French rose. Hard to decide which was the best when we truly enjoyed them all. However, the food didn't really wow us personally, we started off with the chips but the dip was really bland. My husband said he enjoyed his chalet sliders. The oysters were good and I'm glad I tried them during happy hour for a fraction of the cost. I was really disappointed with the French onion soup. I tried to add salt and pepper but it just wasn't cutting it. The halibut was delicious and the asparagus were perfectly cooked, along with the couscous. My husband didn't enjoy his hanger au poivre and along with the 5% service charge this place is really hit or miss with the food. Although everything isn't for everybody I would recommend you to come and try it for yourself and form your own opinion. read more

After hearing about this place for years I finally had a chance to visit. Maybe it used to be a great spot 10-15 years ago but that wasn't my experience. We visited on a Friday around 7 and there were plenty of open seats. I arrived a few minutes ahead of my dining companion and was asked if I would like something to drink but opted to wait. The decor was pretty basic. Not as upscale as I had expected. It was very brightly lit and decorated with a variety of tables and booths. Nothing seemed very private as the whole place was open. Overall I got an Italian style decor vibe instead of French restaurant for some reason. When my friend arrived we were asked about drinks but she had just sat down so needed a minute. We ordered a bottle of wine and then seemingly were forgotten until I had to flag down the waiter to order. He seemed to be the only one covering around 5 tables but wasn't overly present or active with any specific table. Throughout the evening he seemed fairly uninterested overall. We ordered a baked Brie, croque monsieur and rabbit ragu. Brie was slices, not a round or wedges, with some figs and nuts and a side of honey that had spilled on the plate. It was pretty good but didn't expect the slices and the actual dish was so hot I burned my finger. Sandwich was huge with lots of fries. Overall maybe the best deal on the menu based on volume. My friend didn't comment either way so I assume it was good. Rabbit ragu started out good. Lots of meat, noodles done well, not too much sauce. It was just near the end that I had the unfortunate few bites with some bones. Overall service was prob a 2,2.5/5. Food was a generous 3/5, decor was 2.5/5 and overall value for experience was also 2. Glad I went to try it out, prob won't go back again. read more

Great place for a Happy Hour after work. We had a party of 6 hoping to sit outside on the patio, but the outdoor seating only allowed for parties of 4 or less. The inside was also beautiful, so we still had a good time. The happy hour oysters on a half shell were DELICIOUS! They were removed from the menu for a while during the pandemic, but they're baaaack! I also love their aperol spritz cocktails. I left out one star because of service. Our waiter was just okay. He was neither friendly, nor attentive. Also, there was an extra drink on my bill that I didn't order. He removed it before I paid, but it did bother me. read more

We went for happy hour and I think the best way to describe everything would be "ok". It's your stereotypical French bistro with decor to match. The patio is dog friendly. The service was good but pretty slow for only having 3-4 tables seated. I'm sure there are better options on the menu but for the price I expected a bit better. The "Grande Aioli" seemed like everything was out of a box from the grocery store. Undersized muscles and small, Kroger-esque cocktail shrimp. It was really lacking a sauce or, ironically, aioli because everything was dry and unseasoned. The bacon cheese bread was better. Very tender from the bacon fat and salty from the cheese. We haven't been her in many years and came by for dinner. The place still has the nice old fashioned French bistro decor. The host, server, and manager checked up on us many times and made sure we were happy. Everything tasted amazing. Took 10 minutes to get a menu, another 10 to place our order. Appetizers came 20 minutes later (40 minutes after we sat down), entrees 10 after that. Service was slow across the board. Restaurant was maybe half full but clearly understaffed. Staff looked glum and checked out, no energy at all. Haven't seen a place this poorly run in a while. Looked it up later: sold to a private equity group (FS Funds) in 2020, right as COVID hit. Hard to say if they caused the decline or inherited it, but they haven't improved anything as far as I can tell. Should've walked out after the first 10 minutes. Stayed to give them a chance. Regret it. Food was forgettable, two apps, three entrees, all passable. Prices felt out of sync with the quality. The bouillabaisse, in particular, was uninspired, none of the shellfish was pre-cracked, which made it feel more like work than a meal. I don't know if FS Funds is the problem, but I've seen how some PE firms cut corners and after this visit, I'm not surprised to learn there's one behind the wheel. read more

None of them had any seasoning or flavor, which was extremely disappointing. I think my favorite was the curry mussels, but that really isn't a very French preparation. The service is great here from the moment I walked in until the moment I walked out. Parking on the other hand can pose a problem. Allow 10 - 15 minutes to find parking or using the ramp behind. The food quality is good and as expected with the pricing. How-ever my experience was a bit flawed as I was dining one of the workers was trying to fix then bench seats behind me and kept pounding it causing a very disruptive (not hurtful) pounding on my lower back and he was trying to adjust something in the bench seats behind me. While I didn't get anything to eat myself, they do have some choices for happy hour along with some tasty-looking dinner options. I love salute, as I have a soft spot for French cuisine... The atmosphere is generally quite accommodating, sometimes a bit kid friendly for my taste, but love the extra touches... There's a gigantic brass frog that meets you at the entrance, there is a sweet little notepad and crayons for the kiddos if they need to be entertained when you check in, and of course, the food is French so if you love, escargot and French bread, and all the wonderful things that France has to offer from a gastronomic pallet, you're going to be thrilled. But I didn't know what it was labeled on the menu item. So when I explained it to the waiter, he informed me it was the halibut. It was one of the best halibuts I've had in a while. It was non fishy and light. So Easy to digest so that I was able complete a one mile walk subsequently after dinner. The calamari was nice , I'd give the calamari a 7 but the halibut was a 10. The outdoor patio experience was pleasing in an amusing way. It was impossible to eavesdrop on neighboring conversation because everyone who sat around us spoke various international languages. Salut! I've been wanting to visit Salut for quite some time, and we finally did, and it was a great decision! A few days earlier, I made a reservation, so when we arrived, we were taken directly to our table. All of the waitstaff were attentive and made sure we were satisfied. We went on a Sunday and during the time of the day when they served both brunch and lunch. 3 of us got brunch while the other 3 got lunch. All of us were happy with our selection, and the food tasted great. If you're looking for a fun place with a French flame, you have to stop into Salut. read more

My boyfriend and I love an impromptu date night at Salut! You shouldn't have any problem getting a table without a reservation, unless going during prime hours on Friday or Saturday. You can park on the street right in front of the restaurant or in the free public ramp behind it. The atmosphere is the perfect mix of fancy but still casual and cozy. It's nice but not too nice where you need to dress up to go. We never have a bad meal here. Stopped by here with a friend to get some drinks and apps. Both were really good and priced fairly. We both really enjoyed the spritz and thought they tasted perfect. However, the real winner was the sauce that came with the sweet potato fries. I still have no clue what it was, but all I do know is that is was so freaking good. Went here randomly on a Sunday afternoon with a friend. It was a drizzly day so I ordered French Onion Soup and a few New Haven Oysters. The Soup arrived piping hot in a bubbly little crock. Very nice, not overly salty and it tasted like somebody actually made it. No tinned beef broth taste you can sometimes experience when you order French Onion where perhaps you shouldn't. (When In Rome my friends) French Restaurant should mean good French Onion Soup. Nicely done! The New Haven Oysters were a first for me. Well chilled and quite good. The other option was Blue Points and they are not my favorite so it was interesting to try a new variety. My buddy got quiche and salad. Overall, It was a nice light lunch and I'd come here again. Friendly service, reasonably priced and cheerful staff. Id like to to give 3.85 stars but no partial stars on Yelp. Next time we might go for dinner and try the steak people seem to love. read more

Amazing as always. Such a lovely place to go for a few cocktails and light (or heavy) dinner. My favorite is the escargot, salut bleu salad and the French onion soup. I usually go with my mom and grandma for a nice happy hour or dinner and they both love to get a martini! Best escargot ever, and keep the bread coming! The waitstaff (our favorite is Jamie) is so professional and personal, and the hosts and bartenders are lovely as well. I always feel welcome here and it's my favorite place to go in Edina. Check this place out if you haven't been before. They also have a location in St. Paul that I've even to. In the summer, they have a lovely patio as well, but in the winter I love snuggling up in a red booth during the holiday season they have it beautifully decorated and it's the perfect place to escape the cold! read more

My Yelp participation has taken a long break during COVID-19 since my travel, restaurant visits and general going anywhere other than work is non-existent and not conducive to writing reviews. But last evening I decided to get out and try to live a little. A beautiful night and an Open Table patio reservation brought me to Salut, a Parasole themed restaurant in the Parisian Bistro genre. I last ate there many years ago and it disappointed but decided to give it a go hoping that things were different. They were. My party had a great outdoor patio table, appropriately distanced from others. I noted hand sanitizer available at the check in station, fastidious table wipe downs more consistent with a haz-mat cleanup, and servers all in masks. Kind of weird at night to have servers come up to you in the dark wearing masks. I thought I was getting robbed every time my water glass was refilled. Pandemic kidding aside, the service was as expected, pleasant, and they did not try to rush us away even though we closed the patio down. The menu is pared down but there is plenty to like. Vegetarians, Pescatarians and Carnivores alike can all find something and there is a wine list with perhaps 15 bottles represented, all at about 3.5x retail markup which is a little painful. House wines by the glass are about $8-9 and nondescript so you have no idea what you are actually getting. Never a good pick in my book. Truthfully, the food was ok and even borderline good. Frites a little soggy, Steak Hache' a little flavorless, the Pasta Cacio E Pepe was tasty but buttery (Cacio E Pepe classically does not have butter in it; Come to think of it, it actually isn't found in Paris either!), and the Hanger Steak slightly over done. But the compound butter on the steak and the Cacio E Pepe were tasty, and the star was the fresh baguette with butter and EVOO so there were some bright spots if the meal was being purely judged on food quality and taste. I think during normal times, I can understand the average 3.5 star rating that Salut carries but these are not normal times and frankly, I'm going to make an upward adjustment because of that. It gets all the stars from me on this visit for the following reasons: 1. It is open for business. Surviving a nearly 4 month shutdown during the most socially depressing period in modern history is remarkable so good for Salut! 2. Their contribution to the social fabric of the community needs to be applauded. Simply giving people the option of coming out to break bread together and to see other people doing the same without fear or panic is huge and helps in leading society towards economic recovery and social healing. We need more of that as a human race. 3. The food was good, filling and tasty. Perhaps not great but nobody is expecting that when all technical norms have been ditched in favor of overly sanitized and socially distanced kitchens. Anyone that knows anything about food or how a real kitchen works knows that it is pretty tough to sling out greatness without touching anyone or anything else on the line other than the food while washing your hands every 6 seconds, etc. Under these conditions, Alpo would seem luxurious! 4. They have an outdoor space! How refreshing to finally be somewhere other than at home and enjoy nice weather during an al fresco meal. Minnesota summer will be over before we know it and at least I can say I did not spend all of it in total interior lock down! 5. Finally, the overall experience described above really is what gets them all the stars. Providing me with an opportunity to enjoy a meal out, even with restrictive conditions, made me look forward to where we are going as a planet and knowing that we will get through all of this and return to a more normal setting at some point. During this time, that experience was priceless. My recommendation is that if you have a chance, come here (or somewhere else like it in a neighborhood near you) and just sit outside and enjoy a plate of frites, a glass of wine, and a conversation. I promise that it is restorative. read more
