We had a large party of about 12 to celebrate 3 birthdays. We had communicated via Open Table messenger several times back and forth. You all were very prompt to respond quickly, that was so appreciated. I was very specific in asking you if you did anything special for birthdays, as we had 3 that were celebrating. You did say that you did a dessert for the birthday person. I confirmed that we had 3 when I originally booked the reservation. I also messaged you again the morning of our dinner and confirmed the 3 birthday people. You said "Looking forward to celebrating with you". When we arrived our table was ready, there was even a lovely card on the table from your stuff, nice touch!! Service was fantastic, the meal was great. There was a small snafu that happened when splitting a caprese salad between two people and you guys immediately fixed the issue. Food was delicious and with all that there was to juggle with a party of 12 the server was great. The only minor issue came when we waited an extra long time between dinner plates being cleared and actually getting our checks or being asked if we wanted dessert (we weren't asked). We ended up having someone in our party walk up to our server to ask for our checks. Our birthday desserts were never brought out and that was a bummer. We were looking forward to singing to our 3 birthday guests. I didn't ask for it, because I knew I had asked about 2-3 times in our messages. I definitely could have reminded the waiter, but by the time we would've had dessert we had been waiting for a while and our party wanted to move onto our next event. I would just make sure your servers always follow through on the birthday dessert, even if not asked in the future. Again---not complaining a whole lot, just a little note to the staff. Came here for a bachelor party dinner for a friend and it did not disappoint! The food from appetizers to desert was perfectly cooked and delicious! Harry & Izzy's strikes the sweet spot of both affordable and high class dining. Several friends were on a budget and able to find multiple delicious options of under $30. Convenient garage paid parking across the street. Can't say enough good things about this place from the food, to the service to the ambiance. Sunday after the Zoo we decided to get a late lunch .. We had been to St Elmos a few times and like it ... knew Harry and Izzy's was affiliated so thought we would give it a try. We didn't know but thought it was a more casual cheaper vision of St Elmos ... that isn't the case. St Elmos is known for their steak and the INTENSE cocktail sauce with the shrimp cocktail. Harry and Izzy's also had the same cocktail sauce and we knew we wanted to share a shrimp cocktail to start. When I asked for catchup to tone done the cocktail sauce he offered to bring the regular and mild. LOL their version of mild is still a bit much for me but it was good. I always add extra horseradish to the cocktail sauce ... but not that much. If you have never had their regular cocktail sauce .. I caution you to put just a tiny bit to sample. WOW it is like gasoline lite in your sinus. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED. We missed lunch by a few minutes so early dinner. When the waiter told us of the specials they sounded interesting to my husband, so he got both specials with the idea we would share. He knew I'd want seafood and he was going for streak. He'd usually get filet but the waiter said this was similar to filet ... I believe mine was halibut cheeks ... don't really want to ponder that. We were brought our dishes and they had nice presentation. We had both taken a bite when the waiter stopped by to check if it came out ok. By the second bite my husband realized his streak was not cooked to his specifications ..but the waiter was gone . Hubby wanted medium .. but it was over cooked. We both waited and waited by the waiter didn't check back. His drink was empty so i put it at the edge of the table to lure him back. That didn't work .. another waiter finally passed ... and my hubby asked if he could send the waiter over. By this time both our drinks were empty his meal was half gone. The waiter agreed it wasn't medium and took it back. He ended up bringing a completely new streak and potato and this was cooked perfectly and did taste better. I'd share my meal at that point mine was done and we were both comfortably full with thoughts of trying a dessert. he just asked the new meal to be boxed and we ordered a dessert. The second steak only had a few bites taken .. and he gave me a bite before being boxed. I usually only prefer a bite or 2 of meat ... it's a texture issue. We ordered a peanut butter pie .. I've had several versions .. some are fluffy (which i don't like) .. some are too rich .. this was very different ..I really liked it. I asked if it was a peanut butter ricotta cheesecake but they didn't think so. It had a very different texture and taste ... interesting .. then had a peanut butter sauce which my husband thought was too much. I thought it was good and It's my review lol. The bill came and my husband discovered his steak was 75 dollars .. and wasn't even filet. He was a little take aback by that. The waiter hadn't mentioned the cost of either special and we hadn't asked. In our experience the price is typically mentioned but once again we didn't ask. So our early dinner came to around 200 after tip. My husband said his steak was good but ... not that good. He said he preferred steak and it would have been 1/2 the price. Ohh well don't know till ya try. We wanted a nice meal and we had a nice meal. We both enjoyed our experience and we would return here or st elmo's. I pointed out that since they gave him a whole new steak and potato ..that's a meal for another time trying to salve his attitude about the price. As we finished up, I looked at my husband and said "every single bite was good." We started with the famed shrimp cocktail, and sinus clearer is the best definition. It was too spicy and strong for me. My husband enjoyed it but first had to wipe most of the cocktail sauce off. We moved on to the sliders. Even though so many reviews bragged on the filet sliders, we were both doing beef for dinner, so we did two fried chicken and one shrimp slider. The shrimp was good/fine, but the chicken was out of this world. The honey mustard Mayo absolutely made it, even though the bread was perfect and the chicken was fried perfect and it seemed a home pickled pickle, but the Mayo. Mmmmmm. My husband's ribeye was good and the green beans too, but my prime rib dip was SOOOO GOOD. The meat was tender and the bread--give me a loaf of it and nothing else and I'll be happy. It was a rosemary ciabatta bread. The fries were crispy which I like. Also, every person we passed welcomed us, and our server Julie was friendly and helpful. Absolutely perfect dining experience for our first time at Harry and Izzy's. The restaurant is large, inviting, and gorgeous - truly grandiose. We sat in an upstairs dining room overlooking the bar below and it was wonderful. Our server was Sarah, and she was super friendly and had great recommendations. To start we had the "Indianapolis" vodka cocktail and a glass of Merlot. We also ordered the Caesar salad and famous shrimp cocktail. The Caesar dressing was savory, peppery, and delicious, and the cocktail sauce was exactly as rumored - spicy! It had a great kick of heat, but the heat didn't linger which was nice. The order had four jumbo shrimp. We also had the 8 oz. filet cooked medium rare and chose to have it Oscar style with asparagus, lump crab, and Bernaise. The steak came out perfect and the topping was plentiful and delicious. Green beans were fresh, the fried green tomatoes were large, hearty slices, and arrived with a nice aioli sauce for dipping. To finish the meal we ordered the Woodford chocolate bread pudding. This bread pudding was phenomenal! It was large enough for 3 people to share, arrived in a hot cast iron skillet, and Sarah brought over a bottle of Woodford to pour over it while it was still hot. FABULOUS dessert for $15. We will most definitely return here for our next trip to Indy - highly recommend! My friend and I parked in circle city mall and entered the restaurant from the mall. Parking was only $3 for about 2 hours. We waited approximately 20 mins to be seated. The bar tables at St. Elmo's were reserved, so we popped over here for an afternoon drink instead. We came with our relatives who were in town for the Cheer competition. It was about 4:30 on Saturday afternoon, so the bar had the NFL playoffs on and people were cheering for big plays! Didn't necessarily expect that here, but it made the atmosphere fun. Wait staff were so great. Always had great timing to get our orders and ask us how we're doing, but never enough to bug us too much. This delayed us getting the table but they were great about it and we sat at the bar. The bartender attended to us well and made great recommendations. I was a little disappointed to learn they used flour in their meatballs as I was looking forward to trying them. Very formal entrance into the restaurant and we were immediately seated once we arrived (we did have a reservation). The servers were great and offered lots of advice and recommendations as it was my first time here. An amazing place. The decor of the restaurant gives off a very classy, old school vibe. There are two levels, but I prefered the lower level because you can see a bit of the downtown area while eating. The restaurant has a very generous prix fix menu. Basically, $26 will get you a huge sandwich/entree plus two sides. Often, other items on the regular menu can be applied to the prix fix menu. I cannot complain about my selections - steak sandwich, fried ravioli, and the shrimp cocktail. If you come for lunch, you may have to have a late lunch because the portions are huge. Everyone raves about the St. Elmo's Shrimp Cocktail because of the extra punch of horseradish in the cocktail sauce. As a fan of horseradish, I did not really see what the big deal was. Oh well. That said, I wouldn't mind bottling Harry and Izzy's cocktail sauce for other dishes.
