This was one of the best meals of my life! The service was absolutely wonderful, from the hostess to our server Jessica. We never had low water glasses, and the recommendations came with enthusiasm and were so helpful. It seems clear that everyone who works at Harry & Izzy's takes pride in the restaurant's history. I had a hard time deciding what to order because everything looked so good! I ended up getting the world famous shrimp cocktail, and the prime rib pizza. Both were some of the tastiest things ever! The horseradish in the cocktail sauce is no joke- but comes with plenty of warning from the staff! One member of our party has a gluten intolerance and she got a totally gluten free menu to peruse. She ended up with the chopper steak, which was amazing and flavorful. The third member of our party has the brussels sprouts salad which sounded simple was but divine and really very special. Server Jessica raved about the bread pudding so much that we could not pass it up. It lived up to the hype! We sat at the bar before the Colts game and had amazing service and delicious food. If you're coming before a game, make sure you make reservations. They weren't taking walk-ins when we came. The bar is open seating but we were able to reserve 4 spots at the bar. I had the wedge salad and prime beef chili, which was amazing. Some of the best chili I've ever had. The tiki mule was also delicious. We all enjoyed our food and the atmosphere was great. Went here for my anniversary and this place did not disappoint!! Two words, CLASSY And DELICIOUS!!! Our waiter was excellent and extremely knowledgeable about the menu. Because I made a reservation, and included that it was our anniversary in the notes, the staff wished us a happy anniversary, decorated our table with confetti and gave us a signed card. Just extremely thoughtful. We also got crème brûlée for free. I had the scallops and they were hands down thee best I've ever had. Seared perfectly and the sauce that accompanied them was delicious. Harry & Izzy's is an Indianapolis institution. It's run by the same group that operates St. Elmo's Steakhouse next door. The menu had quite a variety and is moderately priced versus the high end St. Elmo's. We dined for lunch today and I recommend the three course lunch special. For $32 you can choose three different courses and customize your lunch. Today I enjoyed the filet sliders, Caesar salad and their world famous shrimp cocktail. WOW! This was quite a meal. In addition my sliders came with a side of house made french fries so this was quite a filling lunch. Harry & Izzy's is famous for their shrimp cocktail. Absolutely an amazing item but be warned their housemade cocktail sauce has quite the kick of horseradish that will wake you and your taste buds up. This was a great spot to grab some food. Its a lot bigger than you think so dont let that fool you. In terms of the experience, it was really good. Food - Had the Ahi tuna and it was so flavorful. The portion was good size and I would highly recommend. Check out the picture. My buddy had the french dip sandwich and it was a monster. The first one was one and a half hours and today was an hour even after mentioning to the server that I had a hard stop time. I did an online reservation and asked for a nice table with a view for me and my family. The table that I received was upstairs against the wall by the bussing station (which during our dinner I heard the conversations of the servers about the other customers which made me very nervous about complaining about one of my items). I will say my server was having a great time socializing with the other employees. This was obvious because every time we were wanting something he was either playing catch with an orange, talking on the stairs with 2 other employees, talking about baseball, or saying he would be right back and disappearing. There were two salads ordered (1 was wrong) and they came within 1 minute of the main entree. Lack of carbonation in the soda, and the server not having an inside voice when I asked a question about the bill (which ended up being embarrassing since I looked up and the customers at the table over from us was listening to the conversation. I never understood buying a 3 course meal and everything being itemized a la cart but I just said ok and paid it just to get it over with.) not saying I am giving up on Harry & Izzy's, but I am hoping next time they will redeem themselves..EDIT & UPDATE: dessert came with the 3 course dinner. I've been to Indianapolis many times over the years but this was my first visit to Harry & Izzy's. I met colleagues there. The atmosphere is very casual with many tables. I ordered the signature Elmo Cola. Traditionally distilled straight bourbon, infused with natural dark cherry and bourbon vanilla beans. Served with our famous drunken cherries. The bourbon was rich and smooth on its own and the drunken cherries are the perfect end to a delicious cocktail. I ordered the pan-seared scallops which are jumbo sea scallops, edamame, roasted corn, rainbow carrots, pancetta, Cajun beurre blanc. Perfectly cooked scallops the vegetables were a nice bright foil to the sweetness of the scallops. The Cajun beurre blanc was a rich flavorful velvety sauce that tied the dish together. My dinner companions ordered lobster sacchetti which is succulent lobster, English peas, sacchetti purse pasta filled with Ricotta, Mozzarella, Romano and Parmesan in a lobster cream sauce. Rich and flavorful, this might sound heavy but it was light and delicious with complex flavors. Definitely a comfort food for a night with a snow storm raging. Our other two companions opted for the dry-aged USDA prime cut steak. Traditionally dry-aged then hand cut to our exact specifications; the dry-age process produces a more robust and intense flavor. Our server had to make a second trip to our table to give them their steak knives. He apologized profusely. Meanwhile, the steak was so tender, they easily sliced their steak with their butter knives. read more

Aside from the classics, I would definitely recommend the burrata & brussel sprout salad and the bacon appetizer. We shared the salad amongst the table, and it was in everyone's top 3 things they ate. It was so refreshing and light, it really balanced the meal. The bacon was a fan favorite as was the cornbread that came with it. The Izzy Spritz was also really nice. Everyone really enjoyed their entrees too. Wow, what an experience - I had high expectations of this place. When we arrived we were advised a 45 min wait, which I understand but we ended up waiting an hour. Due to COVID, they did have precautions about how many people could stand around the bar for a drink and they only allowed one party at a time to grab one. The hot bread that was served didn't have butter. So we asked our waiter for some. Halfway through the meal, we asked again and he said they were out but brought us the horrible tasting potato lard with chives. It didn't taste good at all! Owned by the same people who own St. Elmo's, most of the menu offerings are on par if not the same offerings as St. Elmo's, including their infamous Shrimp Cocktail. Unfortunately, you can't get my personal favorite soup form St. Elmo's, the Lobster Bisque at Harry & Izzy's (highly recommend if you go to St. Elmo's!). Pricing is still on the high side, think fine dining steak house pricing, but the service and quality of food is still top notch. They were pretty big, but very flavorful and had I believe ricotta cheese in top as well. The bread was also delicious. It was like a garlic dinner roll. I opted for the prime rib sandwich they came with handcut fries. The sandwich was juicy, but and flavorful. It has au jus to dip but also has a horseradish aoli sauce that very good. My boyfriend ordered the club sandwich and he loved it. Had lots of meat, too. We also shared the Mac and cheese and fried green tomatoes. The Mac and cheese might have been the best part of the meal although hard to say since it was all amazing. It is so creamy and tasted like white cheddar cheese although it does say 4 cheese. The fried green tomatoes were very basic, but that's just the way I like them. Being from the south, we were hesitant to order this dish, but they did a wonderful job and didn't overdo it like some places do. We then had cheesecake for dessert with raspberry sauce and strawberries. The perfect dessert after a wonderful meal. The wait staff was great. Sarah took care of us and even boxes up all of our leftovers including the multiple sauces we requested.
