This restaurant is part of the St Elmo's Steakhouse family. They have a bigger menu and it is much easier to get a reservation. I was here with my daughter and we started out with the Grilled slab bacon appetizer with Root Beer mable glaze. Oh, lordy! That is some good stuff. It is shareable but I suggest you don't! Keep that gold to yourself. For our main meal we both had the Lobster Sacchetti. Basically, it is little pasta purses filled with 3 kinds of cheese, lobster claw meat in a rich creamy sauce but it is NOT basic! It is a supreme dish! And a fairly large portion--we both took 1/2 of it home. Our lovely, kind, very knowledgeable server, Julie, brought us a basket of buttery rolls to help sop up the cream sauce. Yum. Beside the excellent food, the atmosphere is wonderful. It is very relaxed but hints at elegance. My daughter did have a mojito which was very, very tasty. If you find yourself in Indy, please don't miss the chance to dine here. And ask for Julie. read more

Ok, I think everyone knows that H&I is one of the most respected restaurants in Indianapolis but I had no idea how affordable it is. My wife and I were way early for a game Friday night and decided to pop in for a first time visit. We assumed it was going to be like its sister restaurant(St. Elmo's) and be crazy expensive but not true. We ordered Shrimp Cocktail(it's a must) as an appetizer followed up with (2) entrees and we were STUFFED!! We had to have the waitress(Andrea) box up the left overs....We rolled in and out for just over $70($13 tip included). Btw- Our waitress was OUTSTANDING as well!! Well done H & I's!!!! read more

Came in Wednesday for dinner with a larger group. Great service, super accommodating. Decent food, we ordered a plethora of apps including the fried ravioli, meatballs, calamari and shrimp cocktail. All tasty. On the other hand, our steak, not so much. I ordered the filet and it was beyond bland, cooked properly but luck warm. I didn't enjoy this meal at all. read more

Ate here for early mother's day. It was at 3pm so a pretty slow time on a Saturday. But it was right in the middle of the mini marathon weekend so a little more crowd than usual. I had the shrimp cocktail appetizer which was identical to the one at St. Elmos. Delicious. I then had the special of the day, it was a fish. Can't recall what kind but it had a creamy sauce and crab ontop. It was amazing! Lastly we had a Carmel turtle cheesecake and I'm not kidding when I say I could have had the whole Cheesecake as my meal. It was that good! The service was great and the restaurant was clean. Really I have no negative things to say. read more

My negative review is probably my own fault, because as our server stated...I did order pizza at a steakhouse...the pizza just wasn't good. Crust was totally undercooked and the entire pizza was covered in fennel, which was literally the only flavor you could taste besides undercooked dough. Everyone else in my party ordered a steak and raved about how amazing they were so shame on me, I suppose. read more

I first visited Harry & Izzy's several years ago, and was blown away. Tender, delicious steaks, great atmosphere, and reasonable prices. In the times I've been back, I'm less and less impressed. I took my family and my oldest son's girlfriend last night, to celebrate my wife's birthday. The steaks were tough and dry, even though we ordered them cooked medium. And these were the more expensive dry-aged steaks, some NY strip, and others ribeyes. I've had much better steaks for far less money. The bread pudding was delicious. And the shrimp appetizer with the St. Elmo's cocktail sauce is unchanged. The smoked bacon app was really good. But the steaks were a complete disappointment. Sides were bland. The free brownie (for my wife's birthday) was nothing special. For $400 (including tip) for the six of us, I expect a lot more. I can no longer recommend Harry & Izzy's. read more

Service was fantastic. The shrimp cocktail was awesome! Just the right amount of flavor. We enjoyed the steak and the salmon was moisture and delicious. Great atmosphere and such a wonderful time. read more

A charming spot. While here I ordered the bone in filet and it was quite good, not one of the best filets I've had, but quite good. The staff was incredible and made sure that the large party I was dining with was given the best service possible. The best part of the meal was definitely the dessert as I could not stop eating the bread pudding. Our party had appetizers of cocktail shrimp, calamari and other various seafood items and it was all spectacular. The prices of the menu items would imply the food is of the highest quality, however, the steak is not worth the current price. If prices were lowered this restaurant would be outstanding. read more

A must visit restaurant while in Indy. They never disappoint. Headed there for lunch on a cold and windy Wednesday afternoon and was greated by a busy crowd. This didn't take away from the service. Seated promptly and our food came out just as ordered. My go to on the menu is the St Elmos Prime Rib sandwich. It's a carnivores dream as it's piled high and has so much meat you end up eating it with a knife and fork. A cup of au jus and a side of horseradish sauce comes with. It's a perfect combination of salty with a kick. Paired the meal with a cup of prime rib chili and that didn't disappoint. This was probably my 5 visit to the restaurant over the years and I've never had a bad experience. 5 stars read more

Good place with a slightly upscale atmosphere. This steakhouse has the same owners as St Elmo Steakhouse so much of the menu is the same. Honestly, I prefer St Elmo because you will pay about the same but the atmosphere is nicer and more classic. The food at both steakhouses is fantasitc. read more

my coworkers and i came to indy for a conference and all of our different uber drivers suggested we try harry and izzy's or saint elmo's. because we didn't have reservations for saint elmo's and didn't want to eat dinner at 10PM, we opted for harry and izzy's! it was super close to our hotel and convention center, great staff, super clean, and FANTASTIC! we got their special shrimp cocktail that everyone was raving about. i will say this -- it was good but i wasn't amazed. it had a TON of horseradish on it so it was pretty spicy. i got the steak while my other coworkers tried their scallops and salads. everything was great! it was a ton of food and we all had a great time enjoying their cocktails and drinks. i tried their saint elmo's soda which was quite tasty. recommend trying this place out when you're in the area! read more

Showed up for a late afternoon lunch on a Saturday. The ambience is classy and has an "open" feel to it. The layout has a round bar at the center with tables spread around in different levels. There's also a beautiful patio. The Izzy style NY strip was seared to a good medium-rare, smothered with pepper, and covered in an orange brandy sauce. My steak was accompanied by brussels sprouts with bacon, homemade chips with chipotle and French onion dip, and Orphan Barrel forged oak bourbon. The bourbon was excellent, but very pricey! The service was quick and efficient. Overall, I liked this placed, though it's expensive. A few reviewers have mentioned you need to dress up for this place. You don't, at least not for lunch! read more

Ok where to begin. A cold October day in Indianapolis, Circle City Classic weekend with party of 9 old friends who have not seen each other in a year or so, on to Harry & Izzy's. A few great conversations that were not casually interupted to finish drink orders by the waitress. Water guy does his thing, my water glass is never half empty. Watress appears to get frustrated and leaves without all the drink orders, I personally was never asked for one however my friend across the table from me was - the friend I was talking to. OK.. fine, she will be back in a couple of minutes, she's being unecessarily polite? No, she comes back 10 minutes later never asks for drink orders, just takes food orders... ok, I squeeze in a drink order this time. Food comes my fiance's fish is not "cooked well done" its raw where it meets the plate; gummy raw like when you open the package - (think raw chicken looking)? Waitress provides awsome "weak" previous quoted quote... foods returned. We finish eating, checks delivered by the waitress who never asks about desert, the first time in a while I want some because I have room.... check comes and I see $3 for Bang Bank Shrimp I didn't order. Hmmm? Some people were charged $3 for Bang Bang Bank shrimp? Oh I see waitress explains to one of the 9 people she forgot to charge couple who shares with us that 1 couple who had to leave early for heir Bang Bank Shrimp? Yea it's only $3 but isn't that Harry & Izzy's problem? read more

First time in Indianapolis and we were celebrating my moms college graduation. Everything here was PERFECT! From appetizers and drinks all the way to dessert. There were four of us and we all orders something different. My mom got the French onion soup and it was the best we had ever tried. My boyfriend got the world famous shrimp cocktail and he eats spicy all the time and it threw him for a loop! My dad and I split the bacon and it was delicious! For dinner all of our steaks were cooked perfectly and just the way we requested. I had the potato pancakes as my side and they were some of the best I have had. The chips were also delicious. My boyfriend got his steak Pittsburgh style with Oscar topping and it was one of the best we ever had. The lobster tails were to die for. For dessert we had the most amazing bread pudding. Our waiter was Dano. He made the experience amazing and we will always ask for him when we go back. It is only a three hour drive for us and we will definitely make the trip for the food and the great service! read more

Had the boneless rib eye and mashed potatoes for dinner and creme brûlée for dessert. It did not disappoint. Our waiter, Ross, was the best part of the experience... friendly, patient, and efficient. The only reason I went for 4/5 is the best rib eye and creme brûlée is still at a place I visited in Las Vegas. Indiana, you're in the top 5 for sure read more

i am not one to write reviews unless a restaurant really stands out. Harry & Izzys did but, unfortunately, it was for all the wrong reasons. First, we were seated next to a very messy and unappetizing area where dirty dishes were being stacked. We were reseated when requested but next to an only slightly more well kept wait stand. Our very sweet waiter was obviously new and trying but needs more training. We told him we were in no hurry but the spacing of the meal was beyond odd. We started with the calamari which was outstanding. (the highlight for sure). Two of us ordered Caprese Salads which were so salty we couldn't eat them. (I haven't sent food back in 20 plus years!) Our other friend said the Izzy salad was very good. Our cocktails came well after the app and salad. My gin and tonic was a very full tumbler of gin with a small bottle of tonic. No extra glass to mix and no room in the tumbler. Odd. I ordered salmon oscar style that had very little taste;one of my favorites and a huge disappointment. Our side of Brussel sprouts were, again, so salty they were inedible. The manager came by and we made him aware of the shortcomings. He offered dessert, which was appreciated but then told us next time to make it known not to oversalt. what?! I have never needed to tell a chef how to season their food. The confusion on the bill was the final straw. WE did ask for separate bills but two of us were charged for the same appetizer. I was charged more than my receipt and my friend finally gave up and paid the wrong amount. it took 4 hours for a lousy experience. We won't be returning soon! read more

Food was good. Thus two stars, not one. Service was frankly quite problematic. We were a group of 5 -- two local academics and three visiting scholars from China. Our Chinese colleagues spoke little English. Our waitperson was not patient. Bluntly, when a table is paying $300+ for a meal, the table is entitled to five extra minutes of the waitperson's time, given with good humor, while sorting out ordering in a different language. It did not stop there. The impatient waitperson was not sufficiently trained to identify the seat to which the particular order was assigned, a neat waiting trick any diner waitress knows (to say nothing of a purportedly high end restaurant). Thus, when the order was delivered, our team of support waitstaff dropped off appetizers, salads, and soups in the wrong places. All the worse when you consider we had to sort this out speaking in two languages. When the correct recipient was sorted out, $50 steak entrees were handed across the table (instead of being delivered in person to the appropriate recipient). I was twice presented with a grease-spotted receipt tape listing dishes and asked to tell the waitstaff where to deliver one or another items. Add this to the waitperson's challenging my order -- when I said "rare," she said, "you do know that rare is cool in the middle, right?" It is not necessary that I be thought sophisticated when ordering a meal, but if I am being charged $50+, it is necessary that I be *treated* as if I am sophisticated. Summary: lots of great steak to eat in Indianapolis. The sister restaurant to this one may be the best. This is not in the top 5. But it charges as if it is. read more

Giving two stars because my rib eye, although ok on flavor and cooked as ordered (medium), was dreadfully, disappointingly chewy and tough to cut through. I can honestly say I've never anywhere had a rib eye, even the ones I grill myself from Kroger, that required so much sawing. It wasn't overcooked, just tough... sinewy. Really unacceptable at a place whose calling card is steak. The only reason I didn't send it back was that I was with friends and didn't want to cause fuss and delay. Everything else -- fries, French onion soup, side of asparagus, the service -- was fine; basically what you'd expect at an upscale downtown steak place with a crowd of convention goers, business types, and tourists. The bar does an Old Fashioned the right way, just sweet enough and with one large ice cube. read more

We have come so many times. Hard to give harry and izzys a bad review but we've had great times.. andddd not so great times. On a normal night - you should get good food / service. NYE this year, ahh. Drinks slow. Food over cooked. We had a large group. My steak was medium well vs medium rare. Everyone in room was eating. They took my steak and brought back when everyone was pretty much done - still charged me. Nothing comped or offered really in mean time. I had some veggies but is that why we came to a steak house? The calamari is just ok. The shrimp amazing. Dirty martinis are always great! Filet sliders are Leah's so good. Steak sandwich won't let you down. Pizza was mediocre. Steak is good, when cooked right ;) read more

My Wife and I were in from out of town. We wanted to find a nearby restaurant to Lucas Oil Stadium, and our hotel Le Meridien. We found Harry & Izzys right next door so we walked over. If you decide to dine here be sure to ask for Eliza when making your reservation. Eliza is a great server full of details, and dinner recommendations, best server I have ever experienced! Famous shrimp cocktail, pork chops tender, and moist, pasta bolognese, and then stuff yourself with their famous bread pudding! Top notch restaurant to entertain client's as well. read more

This is my first time in Indy so someone recommended this place for the world famous shrimp cocktail. Must be famous because my sinus will never be the same. Horseradish is unreal. But the 4 shrimp were nice and large. I had to wipe off the cocktail sauce to eat them. Then, we split a wedge salad. Here's my half in the picture. That was very good and they did not skimp on the toppings. Ps. We went on a Wednesday at 8pm. There was a line of people waiting to eat! Crazy so we sat at the bar and had very quick service. read more

My first time at Harry and Izzy's was absolutely horrible. The waiter messed up the order twice. Then tried to tell me that 1 king crab leg was a half a pound of crab legs for $45. Who pays $45 for one crab leg? I will never go back to Harry and Izzy's. I really feel like our waiter discriminated against us because the table next to us ordered a half a pound of crab legs and they did not receive 1 crab leg. read more

The customer service in this place is spectacular!!! We went in with a large group 10+ and had two waiters. They graciously took our orders and were very attentive with the recommendations. The cocktail shrimp with their home made fresh horseradish sauce is really good! It will clear your nostrils - so spicy and delish! The steaks were good quality and cooked to perfection, nobody in the group had any complaints on the quality and the way that the meat was cooked. The vegetables were fresh and looked delicious. One of the members of the group ordered the turkey burger and said it was spectacular! Overall it was a great experience and I definitely recommend, especially because they are so willingness and able to quickly accommodate large groups. read more

The reviews for Harry And Izzy's speak for themselves; people all across the board rave about this place. Well here I am, piling on the praise. During my visit to Indianapolis, my family and I treated ourselves to lunch here. I am no Amateur when it comes to steak, so believe me when I say that my New York Strip was incredibly flavorful, and cut like butter. You can get the Strip "Izzy style" and covered In steak sauce, but there is no need for that. The steak is flavorful enough as is. Everybody else also enjoyed their meals, and the server (Whose Name I've unfortunately forgot!) was super nice and attentive. For dessert, the creme brûlée and the vanilla ice cream were as good as those two desserts can get. This goes without saying, H&I's is always delicious. At any location, the quality is elevated from usual restaurants. It's fancier, and inherently pricier, but definitely worth the expense. Staff and ambience: Took my clients to this restaurant for a business trip. This place is delicious and my clients loved it! Had a wonderful time and the staff is super friendly. Food: We all had the shrimp cocktail which was delicious and started it off just right. We all ordered one which was too much. Be careful in making sure you choose your sides as we didn't and got way too much. Would have been nice if the waiter would have mentioned that bit of detail. Four of us had the spinalis cut of steak which was a special on their menu and we all loved it! It tasted very similar to a ribeye without any of the fat at all. What a great steakhouse! It will cost you a little, but put on your best and take a night out! The steak was possibly top 3 steaks in my life. Seriously. The waiter was close but not overbearing (which is perfect)! Hostess was friendly, food was fresh and delicious! Love the decor, felt like it was at a 20's-30's style steakhouse. The Kentucky derby board which had the 1930 results from the derby was neat. All in all, no complaints! Give it a try! read more

This review is not by any means a reflection of the food at Harry and Izzy's. No one can argue that their filet sliders and shrimp cocktail are oh.so.good. However, a friend and I had a service experience that left us with a bitter taste in our filet-filled mouths. I have been to Harry & Izzy's for several business-related functions in which I was dressed professionally and provided with attentive and helpful service. Howbeit, on this particular Saturday afternoon my friend and I were dressed casually for an afternoon of shopping. We were hankering for some filet so we slid into a booth at Harry and Izzy's. Unfortunately, our service turned out to be a reflection of our less-than-flashy attires. We both ordered the prix fixe lunch menu that featured three courses. One of the courses was mushroom soup - if you know me, this is the only food (mushrooms) that I can't seem to like after serveral failed attempts. I asked the waitor if we could switch it out for a simple side of potatoes or anything but mushrooms. He responded by acting like I was asking for the world and seemed unwilling to ask the chef if this subsitute was possible. If I'm paying $20 for lunch, I'd rather not skip one third of the meal. When I'm paying $5 for a meal, I'd rather not skip one third of the meal. The waitor was rarely seen throughout the meal and made us feel as if we weren't worthy of good service. Based on my past experiences, I couldn't help but feel snubbed and judged based on my casual attire. I thought Harry & Izzy's was supposed to be the laid back younger brother to St.Elmos? read more

Love H & I's!! Fun and upscale with professional servers and amazing food! First time at this location downtown but have been to the northern one many times. For the appetizer we ordered the calamari and it was fantastic. The sauce that comes with it has a little extra bit of kick! For the main course I had to try something new, and not steak for once, so I ordered the fettuccine Alfredo with a salmon and boy was that the best decision I've ever made. The rich and creamy pasta came out topped with a perfectly cooked fillet of salmon. Absolutely melted in my mouth! My husband got his favorite steak which I can't remember but it was supposed to be medium and it was straight extra rare. He even had then take it back and it was still rare the second time :/ abnormal service for sure. For dessert a couple of us shared the woodford reserved bread pudding and vanilla ice cream: to die for! read more

While in Indy for business I was craving some pasta for dinner. I always stay downtown Indy when I'm in town and have seen Harry & Izzy's a few times. The first night I stopped in around 5:30 and every outside table was empty. One of the hostesses started to ask if I wanted to sit inside or out (after I'd said I didn't have a reservation) and the other hostess interrupted her to tell me the only available seats were at the bar. So I went elsewhere and came back the next night. Same story, only Jerky McAnnoyed wasn't at the hostess stand so I was able to get a table outside. The service (aside from that one hostess) was really good. My server was very attentive and made sure I had everything I needed. I spent most of my meal on the phone (as I do most of the time I'm traveling for business) and my server didn't interrupt but re-filled my water glass and continually came around to check up on me. I was craving some pasta so I jumped mouth first off the Kate-safe wagon and had fettuccine with salmon. It was delicious. Probably enough food for about 4 people. I'm sure I'll stop by Harry & Izzy's again in the future. I'll definitely be checking out some of their healthier options next time I'm in town. read more

I visited the downtown location while in town visiting family. The shrimp cocktail was all the rave from a recommendation I received. I ordered it. It was good, but not spectacular. Maybe for the Midwest, but I'm from Maryland. We eat FRESH seafood all the time and I've had better cocktail sauce. For my entree, I had the blackened catfish. It was blackened, but not flavorful at all. The side orders didn't have much flavor either. Maybe I should have ordered beef. Aside from the food, they sat us at a tiny table that seemed to be in the middle of an aisle. Definitely not the best dining experience for the money we paid. If I do return to Indianapolis,I wont return here. read more

Great steakhouse, we couldn't get into St. Elmo's but later learned they are owned by the same family. So that was awesome! The service was great, we were well taken care of right down to our request for crackers to feed the ducks on our walk home. The shrimp cocktail was great, hotter than I expected but awesome none the less. The steak (bone in-rib eye) was perfectly cooked with great flavor. The sides, don't miss the Brussel sprouts. My boyfriend, his 7 year old son and I traveled to Indianapolis for the Pacers/Lakers game last month, and ate at Harry & Izzy's on a whim. We chose it for lunch the day after the game before we began our trip back home to Kentucky and were not disappointed with our choice! I chose the Baked Tuscan, which is a delicious pasta dish that features the most delicious fire roasted tomatoes I've ever eaten and huge chunks of artichokes! My boyfriend had the Chicken Club, and while it,s hard to go wrong with a sandwich, he ranked it up there as the best hes had. The kiddo opted for a cheese pizza and wasnt a fan of the brick oven style pizza, however my boyfriend and i enjoyed it and even had the leftovers for lunch the next day! Definiyely save room for dessert, and i recommend the cherry apple crisp a la mode. DELICIOUS! Great ambiance, loved the decor, excellent service and worth every penny! read more

I came here last night with my friends for Cocktails and Conversation with Abdul (Newstalk 1430 AM WXNT). Harry and Izzy's served up some of their famous shrimp cocktail which was good and some spicy sliders. After a while, the 5 of us decided to grab a table in the bar and order some dinner. I was less than impressed with the Fish and Chips. Since this is a very upscale restaurant, the prices reflected that and I really expected something better. Huge piece of fish but it was too heavily battered for my taste...which made it a little soggy. The fries were standard, nothing special. The cole slaw was okay. A couple of my friends ordered the Tuscon Chicken Pizza...and we discussed why every place these days has a "Tuscon" something on their menu. Of course, by then, we were on our 2-3 glass of wine :-) One guy ordered the Seared Ahi and it did look fabulous. Lots of laughs and we had fun, but I doubt I'll make this a regular haunt. Too expensive, but might be nice for a date. read more

You want a melt in your mouth fillet? Then this is the place if you can't get in, or want the noise of, St. Elmo's next door. Not as crowded (usually) as St. Elmo's, but the place is just really laid back. As good as the food is here, the ambiance is just as nice. The 360 bar in the middle of everything is a spectacle just by itself. The atmosphere compares to that of a reunion of old friends enjoying good food and company. However, there are several "intimate" tables for two scattered throughout this multilevel restaurant. There is a private room available for rent for larger groups and a balcony area that overlooks the entire restaurant with a great view of everything that goes on in the restaurant. I recommend the fried green tomatoes with the specially made-in-house dipping sauce. Fantastic and spicy, it is a great accompaniment to a fillet. Also, if you have room, get the brownie to share. It is rich, yet light and flaky at the same time. I've never had another brownie like it (the server said it was the chef's pride and joy, because the chef, "Does not bake!") The caramelized pecans scattered throughout were the perfect compliment to the french vanilla ice cream and fresh whipped cream mixing with chocolate and carmel sauces. Definitely a third to fourth date meal when you're really trying to kick the intimacy up several notches! BTW: The wine list was excellent and definitely effective! read more

While I don't agree with Horseradish in shrimp cocktail, let alone anything else, it did seem a popular app here. Prices were a bit high IMO, but seemed in line with the area. The group of nine of us was seated promptly without a reservation, while the place next door had an hour wait. I would think that is not good news for Harry or Izzy... The service was very attentive, and the food was OK. I had the chicken alfredo which had the expected Pasta and Sauce but what I didn't expect was a chicken breast (way over seasoned) sliced on top that seemed to be for some other entree. The breading flavor that the chicken had did not mesh well with the alfredo sauce. Too bad, for $18, I guess I expected something better. Others had several of the options from the menu, but what struck me as something I would try, was the piece of cheesecake that went by. Luckily, the alfredo did its job and filled me long before the urge to order dessert won over. Would I go back? Probably not. read more
