I stopped here with a group as we were walking on the navy pier and looking for a spot to grab a bite. They only had their lunch and dinner menu posted outside the restaurant but it had a few good looking items so we stopped in but they were serving brunch instead. They're very strict on ordering off the normal menu before 12 and brunch options were limited. I got the skillet and it was very very greasy and the eggs were over cooked. My friend got the burger with fruit which tasted fine but her stomach hurt later in the day. Our other friends got the chiquilles and said they were fine but nothing out of this world. The name Harry Caray is a legend in Chicago and sports. The thick rimmed glasses of the namesake are recognizable to most people. As a sports legend in the city where he is the most loved, one would expect the pride in carrying on his name Would result in a superior experience. Unfortunately, the time our group had was less than stellar. While waiting for our table at Giordanos on the Pier, we walked to Harry Caray's. The group of 8 sat down at the mostly empty bar to order some drinks while we waited. The bartender walked by us several times and acted like he didn't even see us. After one of our group members flagged down another server we were able to order drinks. It took about 15 mins for them to bring the drinks out. When we were ready for another round, we had to flag down a manager, who was not very respectful and blindly defended his employee. Overall, I will not be back. read more

Just stopped in here for a beer, but the bartender was real nice and chatted with us a bit about Harry Caray. I knew who he was (I mean, come on), but my wife had no clue lol. The Harry Caray beer was a little pricey compared to the others (~$7.50) but they have cocktails on the menu if that's not your thing. The vibe is chill...a little more for the older crowd...definitely not trendy or "hip" enough for the younger crowd. read more

This has a 3/5 rating. Read Yelp reviews that gave it a 1 or 2 star rating. They seemed like isolated incidents so I decided to give this place a shot. Super understaffed on a holiday weekend. I don't mind waiting when it comes to being understaffed but completely being ignored by our waitress as she checked on every.other.table BUT the little two top, was quite irritating. We literally ordered sodas and two entrees and gave her our entire order at once. Food came out within a reasonable time but there was an issue with my fiancé's food and she was no where to be found. He ate the other half of my meal. Waited 20 more minutes for her to ASK to bring our check. Ran out of drinks early on-it's summer time and hot out, you have GOT to be on top of this. We never saw her after taking our order, except to check on other tables. Couldn't even flag her down. Got the manager up front and promptly left after paying. Shit! I was walking around Navy Pier lamenting the fact that I didn't order from that stuffed pizza place ahead of time. I wandered about looking for something good, something fast but nothing fit the bill. I passed by Harry Caray's a couple time but FINALLY looked at the menu. Pork. Belly. Burger. SOLD! Walked up, wasn't too packed but sat at the bar, got a menu and ordered up quick. The food came out promptly as did my beer. First bite into this bad boy of burger was amazing. So was the second. The third and all the way to the end. Every bite had a thick chunk of pork belly. I LOVE that I could pick up the burger and eat it like a man. Totally uncivilized with my bare hands and just attack at. Perfect proportions in my mind and I am tempted to order another but alas I need to bike home and don't want to slip into a food coma while pedaling my city bike along the lake and fall in. It'll be a wet, cold and $1200 fine for losing the bike. Place was great, as could be for a tourist spot like this. I completely forgot to snap a picture of the food when it arrived. While I love giving 5-star reviews, I occasionally have to write about places & places that were a little less than ideal. Five of us arrived at Harry Caray's Taven around 10:25pm to grab a drink and go. We waited behind a long line of people, but then the bartender yelled out that the line started another place instead, so all of us switched over. We then waited in the new line, constantly making eye contact with the bartenders. When we finally made our way to the front of the bar around 11:20 pm, we finally asked "do you think you'll have a chance to take our orders?". The bartender looked at us, and said, "no, the line is actually over there." We were in disbelief, as we had waited for over an hour and the bartender just took an order from the couple right behind us (and... even got their drinks wrong too). We left right away. After an hour. Without our drinks. We understand that it definitely was a busy night there. However, we went to busier bars both before and after Harry Caray's that were able to deliver drinks without a problem. We are posting this review hoping that management may reassess the training and attitudes of the bartenders. There is definitely some room for some improvement! Perhaps someone may direct all the waiting people into an actual line? Perhaps they could teach the bartenders to be more understanding and attentive of the customers? Please don't leave your customers thirsty and disappointed. The bartenders are very hardworking people, but we hope they can learn how to handle larger crowds. Thank you. read more

Sad. Just sad. I went to this restaurant on June 18, 2019 with my mom and a couple friends. We were seated right away and we ordered drinks pretty quick. My friend and I went to the bathroom and when we got back our moms said that they ordered for us. We then proceeded to wait 45 minutes for our food. Our waiter came out and told us our order ticket did not get submitted because of a "new system" they implemented. What made it worse was three other tables that came in after us was getting their food. I was appalled by the service and the lack of accountability the waiter had. It seems like a nice place. In a word......."Sad". I ordered the ribs and they were basically flavorless. I tasted the food of all the others at my table just to see if I was mistaken. All without any good seasoning. It all reads well from the menu but very one note and bland. On a positive note, our waiter was attentive and tried to get a substitute item.......but there was no saving this experience. All further food was just the same. I truly feel it is a shame and even an insult to me and the product used to cook the food. Want proof, Google "700 E Grand Ave" and look at the street view. Do you see a restaurant? Just head towards the peer and eventually you'll see it. I came here with my boyfriend after spending the day at Navy Pier. Since it is a popular tourist spot, the restaurant was busy and packed with people. We got seated fairly quickly, and the service was alright. We ordered the warm spinach & artichoke dip, a tavern burger, and the margherita pizza. While the dip and the burger were alright, the pizza was a complete miss. There was way too much cheese, to the point where it was bites of all cheese and nothing else- no taste of the actual pizza or sauce, tomato, or basil. The cheese basically overloaded the pizza. I wouldn't say it's worth coming here because the quality of the food doesn't match up to its high costs. While we'll still come back to visit Navy Pier, we definitely won't be coming back here. read more

The large bun overwhelmed the patty/toppings. Definitely inflated prices given the touristy area. The interior was cool, with lots of photos of celebrities and sports memorabilia. I don't think staff and others at establishments understand a customers perspective. We walked one mile to get to a bus, to get to another bus to get here. We actually were going to another restaurant in this same plaza and was turned away at 8:30pm. The hostess claimed they were at capacity. Real bogus statement, the restaurant outside and inside full of empty tables. We strolled over to this place and same thing, the host at least said they were closed. Frustrated, I asked, "what time do you close". At 8:50 he says, "5 minutes ago". I asked him how does this work? You just close when you want with no regard for your customers or the time it takes to get here. This seems a bit unfair! Although annoyed, he changed his mind after rolling his eyes few swirls and lead us to a table! Jeez, we should have accepted the fact they were closed and kept it moving. I ordered the Memphis Dog and it was terrible. No flavor, luke warm and I'm almost positive they didn't cook the hotdog. Or it was cooked and they were too lazy to warm it up.
