We got dinner here last night and it was a pretty good experience. The booths were comfortable and there's a decent amount of seating in the restaurant, although at first glance I was wondering if there would be enough room to accommodate us. We wanted to order crab shumai, but they were out so the waitress recommended the shrimp shumai instead. It was not bad, could have been seasoned a little more, and I wasn't too fond of the mustard wasabi it was served with. We also had the miso soup, which was delicious, definitely hit the spot in this cold weather. For entrees, we ordered the Rainforest roll and the Haru Ichi Tuna roll. This restaurant is hands down the best Japanese restaurant in Atlanta. The menu is extensive, including many hard-to-find Japanese specialties. It's as good as home cooking -- and it feels like being in Japan. The portions are fantastic, service is impeccable, and the prices are quite reasonable. If you're looking for sushi or sashimi, they've got a wide selection and the portions are generous. If you're looking for noodle dishes: ramen, soba, or udon -- they've got so many choices. Haru Ichiban is a friendly Japanese restaurant. They have a variety of starters as wells as entrees. I ordered a whole bunch of sushi, starters and rice bowl. Personally, I didn't enjoy the rice bowl much because it smelled like raw egg all the way. The Boneless chicken pieces for appetizer felt very doughy and oily. Other that that, I enjoyed the sushi a lot. I'll go back for the crunch roll for sure! Came here on Saturday night around 6:30 pm. It was pretty busy with lot of full tables. I didn't have to wait. I was seated promptly and given a menu. I ordered bagel roll (sushi) and chicken karaage ramen (with miso soup base). The food arrived at reasonable time about 10 minutes and everything was excellent & well cooked. Prices are reasonable. Good spot for groups, family, but also for a date. We got: - nabeyaki udon which was tasty. A bit too salty but I'm sure some people eat sodium like it's nobody's business. We decided to get some sushi's so we came to Haru Ichiban. We arrived at a late lunch hour and the place was still packed. We ordered the calamari. the rainbow sushi with tempura, the haru Ichi specialty roll, and the volcano roll. The calamaris were all small and not crispy. The tempura came with 2 shrimps and 3 veggies. The Haru Ichi special roll was my favorite. The volcano roll was good for the first bite. The octopus on too added a different texture to the roll. But the sauce overwhelmed the entire roll, I was tired of the sauce after my 2nd bite. Overall it was pretty good. read more

The quality of their sashimi never ceases to amaze me. I always fight with myself before getting the chirashi, since you could go to an all you can eat sushi buffet for the same price as their chirashi. But in the end? Their chirashi will get you full and make your belly happy! I decided to try their ramen again, and I was actually pretty impressed. They still has paper menu, so even those who are not tech savvy can come and check with menu without straggling with QR code. Each piece of sushi was created nicely, not too tough, not too soft. Just tough enough to raise by chopsticks, but not soft enough to broken by touch of soy sauce. Each fish on sushi was fat to have good taste and feeling in the mouth. Chirashi was nice too. Ordered not the most expensive one (without uni and fatty tuna), but still had quite number of different fish were in it. Again, each fish was fat and really good. We were in the area and I could not stop myself and had to get Japanese food. This is located in a large complex and has plenty of parking. I decided to order a lunch combo with a roll and teriyaki chicken. The order comes with a complimentary miso soup and a salad. The soup, salad and rolls were ok. however I was a little bit disappointed in the chicken. I was large chunks of dried chicken breast. The sauce was average but was not able to salvage the meal. Pretty damn good. The restaurant layout is definitely not what you would typically expect but I didn't hate it. On a Friday night I was happy to wait only about 10-20min at 8-9pm. Ramen was waaaaaay better than expected!! I've heard the ramen wasn't that great but I disagree! Pretty tasty. And the toppings were delicious however the pork was a tiny bit tough so it got stuck in my teeth but I did have great portions. Rainbow roll was a table favorite. Fresh and amazing. My husband is the one who introduced me to Haru Ichiban. He worked for a Japanese company that frequently ordered for the whole office from here, and he loved it so much that he brought me along. We have also brought my FIL as well as some friends. Now, I'm not Japanese, so I can't say how authentic Haru Ichiban, but my impression is a good one. Everything is absolutely delicious. My FIL is an "adventurous eater" as some would say and likes to order things that are uncommon on other menus. He ordered the miso soup with mussels, a conch dish, and the uni and he was delighted. He said the uni was among the best he'd ever had and that it was supremely fresh. In fact he pretty much licked his plates clean. To say he loved it would be an understatement. My husband likes the traditional non-sushi items (he won't eat raw rolls ) such as the wafu beef, and katsu. I'm a huge fan of their takoyaki. While the spicy tuna is the usual minced tuna, the spicy salmon roll comes with actual slices of salmon inside and not chopped up fish. Their fancier rolls are massive and works of art, they are so beautiful. Their serving staff are awesome and the service is great. It's always a pleasure to dine here. As an aside, checking the "not recommended" reviews section shows a lot of what appear to be fake accounts leaving 1 star reviews. I tried three rolls including the unagi special 14.50, rainforest roll 14.50, and salmon super crunch 12.50. Honestly, they were all good but the rainforest was my fave. Yes, they sound like pricier rolls but they are larger than most places with 8 pieces. Also, they are so beautifully plated. I was blown away by the rainforest roll. 3 rolls was plenty for 2 people to share. Service was nice and different waiters tended to us. Food came out at a reasonable time. I heard so many good things about this place and finally got a chance to check it out. We ordered Omakase ($44) and were hoping for some good sashimi. However, the experience was a disappointing one. Apart from Salmon (which was tasty), nothing else tastes fresh. The tuna was too thick to chew. I really love good sashimi, and was sad that this place didn't live up to the reputation. The waiter also gave us the check way before we finished eating, when we were in the middle of a conversation. What a menu! This was a first time stop for me and I'll definitely return. I was on a mission to find good ramen and this place hit the spot. There are many waitresses that come by your table, so you always have what you need. Everyone we came in contact with was extremely friendly as well. The Ramen was fresh, large, and flavorful. I ordered the vegetable Ramen, and all of the vegetables inside were perfect. This place gives you the option of three different types of broth. You can pick different types of noodles, and there are many things you can add for an up charge. The sake was very good. I'm not sure that $23 was ok, but it came out in an adorable little carafe and perfectly hot. I saw a lot of sushi being taken to other tables. I am certainly going to come here for sushi next time. Took my parents here for dinner the other night. We got the Omakase for $54. It included a nice assortment of sashimi. The uni was very fresh and delicious. The Create Your Own Combo for Two ($60) was a great value. However, our selections were subpar. The garlic steak appetizer was dry and didn't have much garlic flavor. The Japanese style calamari was overfried. The ponzu sauce was a nice touch but made the calamari soggy. The roller coaster roll and the Snow White roll were large but very generic. I did not care for the spicy tuna roll. It was very fresh but the flavor just didn't do it for me. The Hari Ichiban Gozen ($33) included a lot of food. However, the wafu style ribeye was tough to chew. The tempura was delicious. Ramen Gozen ($29) - we chose the tonkotsu ramen and the broth was flavorful and the ramen was perfect. The Gozen meals both included a little slice of cake. The dynamite oysters ($19) were very good. You get half a dozen. I would definitely come back for the sashimi and ramen. This is probably one of the best Japanese restaurant here in Duluth. I always go here for their lunch. They have a very extensive menu. It would be a lot of options that you could choose from ramen, sushi combo, bento box, combination , yakitori, soba, udon, etc. Quality of their fish is okay, I could tell they use frozen fish for some of their menu. But frozen is not necessary bad. Some time frozen fish is better in terms for safety and health issue. Because the seafood is froze to the point of salmonella growth is negligible almost non existence and keep it that way until it was thawed and use. Compare to the fresh seafood, which sometime if not most of the time mishandle. Okay back to the food review, their lunch combination is what I always get here. For $11.95 you could pick 2 of the variety of foods on the combo list and serve with salad and miso soup. I would say that's an awesome deal. However I would say stay away from their ramen. I tried once, it was not the best ramen I've ever had. Service always great here, friendly, fast and very attentive. Venue is typical in a japanese restaurant. They have sushi bar seatings as well as table seatings. What unique about their restaurant is once you step into the restaurant, immediately there are 2 sides right and left of the dining place. Sushi bar is on the right side of the dining place. Interior design is simple with a little Japanese Knick knacks. Good for groups, family , also for a date. Friends were talking about how great this place was. They said the restaurant gets daily delivery so their seafood is always fresh. So I came to try it out myself because I love sushi!! Unfortunately, I'm pregnant and can't eat any raw fish. TEARS. But hubs was able to eat it for me, even though he's not too big on raw fish. We came around 8:30PM, an hour before closing. We felt bad and knew we could eat fast, but our friend eats slow.. so they were nice enough to let us sit passed closing to finish our meal without any complaint. Since I couldn't eat anything raw, I ordered the Kani Kani Roll, which is a crab salad inside the roll with spicy mayo and eel sauce on top. I honestly can't remember what hubs ordered, but I remember there was crab meat in the middle and a crab meat with raw fish mixture on top. He said it was AMAZING. He didn't need any sauce. He just straight up ate it and I kept staring out of jealousy.. LOL. He said it was probably one of the best sushi he has had in a while. We also ordered this yusa yusa shrimp? If that's the name.. it was a battered shrimp with their version of bang bang sauce. It was a little too heavy for me. Hubs also ordered the ramen, which was not pictured... he didn't like it. And he knows good ramen. I tasted the broth and didn't like it either. It tasted like straight up seaweed. It was the special ramen with tonkatsu flavor. Haru Ichiban is a very good, all-around Japanese restaurant. Some people really like the ramen here, though that's just one of many items you can order. Haru Ichiban's menu is massive. In terms of breadth and depth, it's probably second only to Shoya Izakaya as far as metro Atlanta Japanese restaurants go. The restaurant serves everything from izakaya-style grub (small plates) to noodles (ramen, udon, soba -- over 25 different varieties), sushi, sashimi, meat dishes like chicken karaage and tonkatsku (fried pork cutlet), tempura, rice dishes, kushiyaki (meat skewers), yakimono (grilled foods), oysters, agemono (deep-fried foods), sukiyaki (Japanese-style hot pot), and more. You can order a variety of combination plates and platters that have many of the items just mentioned, and there's even a children's menu. The selection of shochu (15+), sake (15+), and Japanese beer (5) is respectable as well. As you can tell from the menu, this is an authentic Japanese restaurant. As such, things can get pricey here, but I didn't see anything that was unreasonable. Such is the nature of Japanese food - you get what you pay for (high quality). I've had the opportunity to try many items off the menu including: Appetizers: Edamame and burdock root Daikon house salad with ginger dressing Fried foods: Takoyaki - fried octopus balls Chicken karaage - Japanese fried chicken served with mayo-based sauce, shredded cabbage, and lemon Raw fish: Otoro nigiri - blue fin super fatty tuna (best part of the tuna) Uni nigiri - sea urchin Ankimo - monk fish liver Ramen: Tonkotsu ramen - egg noodle in creamy pork broth with roast pork and vegetables Tantan ramen - egg noodle in spicy soy chicken broth with pork and vegetables Each diner at Haru Ichiban gets their own small dish of edamame (soybeans, unsalted) and burdock root (finely shredded). The salads here are no joke. These aren't your typical small house salads with ginger dressing. The daikon house salad, for example, is packed with both dried and fresh seaweed, spinach, and other dark vegetables. If you're hungry, it's not a bad item to add on to your meal for $2.50. I'm not a huge fan of takoyaki (fried octopus balls), but several of my friends love it. Haru Ichiban's version is just as good as the others I've tried in Atlanta, including Shoya, Sushi House Hayakawa, and Sushi Yoko. The Haru version has a sweet and tangy mayo-based sauce drizzled on top. Takoyaki is served piping hot so be careful not to place them in your mouth soon after they arrive at your table. I like the chicken karaage. If you like fried chicken, this is the Japanese version. It's boneless and deep-fried to an almost-dark brown. Crispy exterior and soft interior. You can dip the chicken in the mayo-based sauce provided (similar to the sauce used on the takoyaki), squeeze some drops of lemon on top, or eat it by itself (my preference). Chicken karaage is akin to chicken tenders. It's probably a good idea to order something off the restaurant's "Catch of the Day" menu posted near the entrance. These are presumably the business's freshest fish. I've had only great experiences with this menu. The otoro (fatty tuna) and uni (sea urchin) nigiri and the ankimo (monk fish liver) all came from the "Catch of the Day" menu. The quality of the otoro and uni nigiri is melt-in-your-mouth good, with excellent flavor and no fishy taste or smell. That's the sign of fresh and high quality sushi. One order of ankimo comes with two pieces of monk fish liver served in a small dish with minced scallion, daikon, burdock, sprouts, and a little bit of vinegar-based sauce. The ankimo is silky smooth. This food is hard to describe, but I love it. The flavor and consistency is an expected mixture of fish and liver, but refined. If you like either one (fish or liver), try it! Haru Ichiban's ramen is satisfactory at best. After trying ramen at many local Japanese restaurants, including Shoya, Yakitori Jinbei, Raku, and others, I still think Umaido in Suwanee makes the best. I just prefer the noodles and broth used at Umaido above the others. While the broth in Haru's tonkotsu ramen is creamy, I like my tonkotsu ramen broth even richer. The noodles are soft and the bowl is certainly packed with plenty of veggies including seaweed and scallion. There is no egg, though (boo). The tantan ramen broth is lighter, oilier, and a bit more fragrant. The tantan ramen also includes more vegetables than the tonkotsu including mushrooms and bean sprouts. Service is great. The servers are proactive about separating checks and that's always a plus. The food comes out reasonably fast. Haru Ichiban is located in a strip mall just south of the Pleasant Hill-Satellite Blvd. intersection. It has a steep driveway. read more

There really aren't that many full Japanese restaurants these days. Most of them are korean fusion or Chinese fusion or you'll find slivers hidding behind buffet counters. There's a couple of ramen places but this place truly does the sushi and the food Japanese with no blending of other cultures. The ramen is good. Your typical shio, tonkatsu, etc are there. There's good deals like 2 for 47 where you get the appetizer, soup, entree, dessert and full set dinner. I recommend that for people who are prepared to get their money's worth. The sashimi is of good cut not like the bulk mass you find in buffets The interior feels like what you would find in Osaka Japan. Staff is pretty attentive and it does get crowded and busy for dinner time to where you have to wait. Reservations are HIGHLY recommended ahead of time. read more
