I usually get the bento box combination where you can select two choices from a list like sashimi, sushi, grilled mackerel, hamburg, etc. $11.50, the portions are pretty decent sized and totally worth your money. It also comes with a soup and salad, which is always a plus. The fish is very fresh the majority of the times I've been there, Hamachi Kama is especially delicious. Dinner is reasonably priced as well, but I would say it's more worth it to come during lunch. I have gone to this restaurant twice now. The food is amazing and the service was good too. Everyone was friendly on the way in and also on the way out. However both times I explained as soon as we were seated that my girlfriend has shellfish and mushroom allergies. Both times they acknowledge it and assure me they understand and carry on. Also both times they bring a side dish that has shellfish directly in it. So we kindly reminded them of the allergy and they remove the item from the plate and assured us it was a simple mistake. If you are craving great sushi and cooked items at the same time, or are travelling with someone that does not want to eat sushi, then I recommend trying Haru. Strictly sushi, there are other places...strictly ramen, then are other places... and so on for izakaya grub and yakitori. Haru Ichiban is the total package. Rarely will you ever find a restaurant that prepares both excellent cooked dishes as well as the best quality sushi. Also, with excellent customers service in a casual atmosphere. On top of that, it is hidden away in a Duluth shopping plaza. To be honest, while the food quality is excellent, the super casual atmosphere and fluorescent lighting really does not match the price of the food. You feel like you are more in a diner or breakfast house than a fancy Japanese restaurant. It is expensive. To really try items and have a good time, it will set you back about $50 each. But, I could easily spend $100 here just on myself. So, I was lucky enough to come here for my birthday last year for a special occasion splurge. It is totally worth every penny for the experience. The meal sets are very similar to what is served in Japan, just that the portions are a little smaller and the price is very high. I could see this being more of a lunch spot, where it is cheaper during that time of day. I know this is stateside, and I should not compare with Japan, but I cannot help it. That may be some of the best uni I've ever had. That being said, the rest of my meal was good, if not a bit overpriced. I had a small selection of nigiri and two larger rolls. Clearly my eyes were bigger than my stomach. The nigiri was pleasantly average (not a bad thing), and the rolls were tasty. The Roller Coaster Roll was a real treat. The Haru Ichiban roll was something of a gimmick. Good, but it lost any distinction among so many of the other overdone rolls that are covered in multiple sauces. It needed more character. I stop by at lunch time. While the staff seemed very friendly and helpful, I gotta say, I was thoroughly disappointed in the quality of the sushi. I intentionally ordered dinner Girashidon($27.00), so I have good Quality lunch. The rice was kind of cold and fish just didn't seem like great quality. It was that kind of spongy texture that seemed almost tenderized. And only 3 piece more sashimi then lunch. It was very different than what I used to have in this restaurant. I guess because of the price of fish, rent, COVID-19 or just being so frugal to the point the dish feels very stingy almost as if I got robbed today, otherwise we enjoyed the years this establishment has served the most excellent Japanese sushi and for our previous experience I give this place 10 stars...unfortunately I cannot rate it the same now. [TL;DR] Best ramen in Atlanta so far. Portions for giants. Why does it seem some of the best places exist in these nondescript shopping malls? Haru Ichiban is no exception. I loved going here. The service was friendly and fast. The greetings some customers received was indicative of frequent visitors. I would fall into that category if it were close enough. Hope you like hot, green tea. You get a complimentary serving of it -- with refills. I ordered the special ramen which came with a ginger salad. Lettuce was fresh, ginger dressing tasty. Good way to start. The special ramen was awesome. You get a choice of four types of soup bases described as such: Soy: chicken broth w/ soy sauce Sio (Salt): chicken broth w/ natural sea salt Miso: chicken broth w/ soy bean paste Tonkotsu: creamy pork broth w/ light soy sauce I'm a fan of tonkotsu so I went with it. I'm going to go all the way around those bases and try them all eventually though. My soup was piled high full of toppings. The special ramen comes with an assortment of seaweed, an egg, and roasted pork. It had a really rich and creamy flavor that has me craving another bowl as I write this. You can add additional toppings for pretty cheap. Don't forget to ask for additional scallions and minced garlic -- free -- if that's your thing. The serving size was more like a family event. Tan tan spicy tonkotsu ramen with poached egg (extra charge). Noodles al dente, curly. Broth here is medium rich and medium spicy. The poached egg looks fancy on the soup and is prepared quite well - easy to cut with chopsticks - but given a choice, I'd rather a soft-boiled egg. The tan tan is prepared with ground pork. Although I prefer chashu sliced roast pork, I wanted to try their spicy ramen. In the final analysis, Haru Ichiban's spicy ramen falls short of some others in town but is still good. I wouldn't hesitate to order it if I come here again. A small iceberg lettuce salad with dressing is provided with the ramen during lunch. Nice touch - most of the other ramen places don't do this - but not anything special. Good seating, and I say that because I normally wouldn't like the banquet seat I was given. Here, the spacing is adequate so you don't feel like you're dining with the guy next to you. Comfortable, too. Service very friendly and efficient and the check was delivered promptly after I had pushed my bowl away. I like that. People stopping in for lunch usually are time-contrained. I have been here to Haru Ichiban years ago but since it is OTP, hardly venture into this area. I know what some people are saying about those like us who are so reluctant to travel OTP. I was having lunch with a friend recently and once he heard a place has great reviews, he bookmarked it on yelp but once he found out it is located OTP, he removed it, lol!! Anyway, back to Haru Ichiban.. So last Saturday decided maybe we can all go check out the place again. I really do like the ramen here, just that it is located too far from where I live and want to go. The place was packed when we arrived, we had to wait for a table but the wait was not bad. So we ordered: Chashu Ramen with tonkotsu base - I definitely like the broth here the best, very generous amount of chashu Crab Siew Mai - very thin and soft skin, yummy!! Katsu Don - 2 slices of Katsu, and lots of rice Green Tea Ice Cream Tempura - basically fried ice cream, we saw one table ordered that and it looked so pretty. When the dessert came, it definitely earned an A for the presentation. The dessert itself just a B. The green tea kind of bland for me, I like my green tea ice cream more intense in the flavor, richer and creamier. Service was great here too. The food here was fairly expensive (ish). The average menu item was around $12 +. They have a pretty good selection of sushi with a variety of "dinner" entrees to choose from--seafood, meat, etc. My party and I choose to share the Haru Ichi Special Roll as an appetizer. It was $10, and it tasted (and looked) pretty good. There is also complimentary green tea if you wish to have something warm in your stomach. The tea looked like it was made from powder, but it was not that bad. One friend had a $12 ish noodle appetizer (Okonomi-Yaki?). The portion was pretty generous and quite filling as he only finished ¾ of it. It had a pork topping or some type of meat with an egg cooked under the noodle. It comes out on a skillet in case I'm confusing you. My other friend had the steak. It was about $20, but it came with miso soup, steamed rice, and potato fries (pinch of fries). The steak was super succulent and tasty--I snuck in a few bites. As for me, I had the Ochazuke -- mixed topping (salmon, plum, seaweed, & salmon roe) for $9. It was pretty much like canh ca with com (salmon & rice in a tea broth). It was okay, nothing too wowing or something I would recommend since it came in a small bowl. Haru Ichiban is a great choice for Japanese cuisine lovers in Duluth. It's located on Pleasant Hill/Satellite Blvd. The menu for lunch and dinner do differ. If you're not looking to spend too much definitely come here for lunch. Dinner is a bit pricier, but nothing over the top. The food here is good if you know what your preferences are. This review is so overdue. Haru is a classic in Duluth. I love Haru Ichiban, esp their omakase sashimi platter, which always includes uni & fatty tuna for $45. I also always order their spicy scallop nigiri. I have also ordered their ramen, which truly hits the spot are those cold days. My favorite rolls include the rainforest roll, Oishi roll, & special holiday roll. All of them are good. You can't really go wrong. Craving a little sashimi? Order the Hotlanta appetizer. It had been ages since the last time I've been here, and I ordered hot food for the first time, so I believe a review update is in order. I ordered the tonkotsu ramen, since I was craving something hot and soupy to keep me warm on this cold Sunday night. The cute Japanese server (whom I believe was my server before a couple years ago) brought us hot green tea per our request. The hot tea cups warmed our hands as we hungrily waited for our food. The broth was quite salty, I was hoping the ramen would be slightly simpler. But hungry as I was, I slurped up every noodle and even sipped on some of the especially salty broth. Wow. What happened to this place? I believe there is new owners? Everything has changed. The food used to be so good here. The sushi used to be so fresh and their ramen was the best otp. Now? It was not even comparable with market sushi in the containers from Publix...the ramen was so bland. I made an order to go and it costed me $82. I ordered Chashu pork ramen and they gave me sliced pork chop pieces. That's what it resembled. Not the beautiful chashu they used to have. The California roll I could have gotten a better one from a gas store sushi container. The sashimi was not fresh as it used to be. Overall a very bad meal. We used to come here once a week to eat their ramen and sushi. Now we will look elsewhere. For ramen I will go to Samurai Ramen in Duluth. Their broth is 10 times better than Haru Ichiban. Haru is a place where I'll go if I'm craving sushi or ramen when I'm nearby. I've been here a couple of times and their food is okay. I like it but I don't love it. My go to order here is the tonkotsu ramen for $12 - kind of expensive, but the portion is big so my bf and I we would usually share. For yesterday's dinner (7/16/18) we ordered the ramen, the the pork cutlet ($16) since I was craving it and two orders of their toro sushi ($15 for two pieces, $30 for both orders). The ramen was good as usual, I really appreciate the size of the portion and how many pork belly they give us. Other ramen places, they literally would give us one. My pork cutlet came with mash potato (bland), broccoli (undercooked), salad with mayo (didn't even bother trying it) with a side of miso soup. The pork cutlet dish was really dry, the rice was also dry and this dish really had no flavor to it. They did have a side of the sauce where I can dip it in, but it still didn't taste any better. I've become a frequent customer here for many years and I actually live like 20 minutes away. The drive here is so worth it though. Their food portion is big and the price is affordable. They have a huge menu with a lot to choose from, but I always go with dinner combo, Gozen and special rolls. My go-to is Haru ichiban Gozen (with miso cod, salmon or grill mackerel) and Oishii roll. Their ramen portion is huge. I could never finish it. It tasted just okay in my opinion. But since they have so many other good choices in their menu, I still like this place. Service is great. The servers even know my familiar face by now because I came too often. They all very friendly and attentive. This restaurant is outside of Atlanta city so there are more tables and space. Lots of different appetizers too. We got the kake udon which was normal. Teriyaki salmon was excellent with very fresh salmon and seaweed sprinkled fried steak fries. The seafood rice porridge was good and the sashimi was very fresh and tasty. You can always separate the low and high quality sushi places by the sushi rice. My friends took me here. They have been here a lot of times for lunch and are very pleased with what they got so we decided to try their dinner. They have a giant menu! A LOT of different sushi, sashimi, ramen noodles, tradition meat dinner, seafood dinner and combos! Very hard to decide what to try. :D. My friends finally had set dinner for 2. It was only $49 and you can select three sushi and 2 appetizer and also come with w sets of ginger salad and miso soup. So they had spicy tuna roll, final weapon roll and another salmon rolls together with Gyoza and saku saku shrimp. A lot of food! I had Grilled Mackerel Haru Gozen (tradition dinner served on a tray). The grilled Mackerel came with 6 pcs Sashimi, tempera, seaweed salad, pickles, miso soup and steam rice. The whole set of food was about $27. Overall I think the food quality is average. The sushi rolls were probably the best among all the food we ordered. The grilled mackerel was too salty and very dry. The tempera was ok. The sashimi was average and not very impressive. Well, for this price with such a big variety of food, it is not bad. This restaurant is located in a plaza so have plenty of parking. If I am in this area and craving for Japanese food, I may come back again. But I don't think I'll just drive here for dinner. read more

I've been to Haru Ichiban multiple times, but this was my first time going on a weekday for lunch. It was packed when we arrived around noon, and we were told there was about a 10-minute wait, but we were seated at the sushi bar in five minutes. It took a while for the waitress to get our order, which is understandable given how busy it was. I saw that they had a lunch special for $12.95 (5 piece nigiri sushi + rainbow roll, which comes with salad and miso soup) so I got that, and my sister ordered the Spicy Mt Tuna Roll, which just comes by itself. The food came out relatively quickly, and I was pleasantly surprised at the quality and quantity of food for the price. Everything tasted superb, and the raw fish was fresh. * Heads up - I wrote this review with no filter. This was my favorite sushi restaurant in the area .....until yesterday. Ricky and I hopped in here for a quick Christmas dinner for the two of us before going for a romantic walk under some Christmas lights. We luckily came a little early so we were able to be seated immediately without any wait. The restaurant though was busy due to it being Christmas with shortage of staff for the amount of tables full so service was understandably worse than usual. This dosent bother me but thought I should mention it for other yelpers who might care about this. But what I did care about is this: Now, I dont know if its because Ive been in Hawaii for the past month and my stomach isnt used to the quality of sashimi back here in the Duluth area or they were possibly getting rid of the last bit of last weeks delivery of fish or whatever the reason may be but .... sadly yesterday on Christmas day after I ate sashimi from here I left with pretty bad food poisoning. Ricky and I did notice a few of the pieces looks questionable and smelled off but we ate them thinking the chef most likely knows fish quality better than us and would not dare serve bad fish to his customers. And I didnt eat anything earlier in the day (saving my macros for this cheat meal) so I know it was due to the food from here. Now, I dont mind minor food poisoning where your stomach just churns for a few hours .... but I do care when it gets bad enough to inconvenience your plans the few hours after your meal where you have to hug the toilet for a few hours and feel out of energy for the rest of the night while your body is trying to recover.....especially on Christmas, no one deserves to go through this. So instead of a romantic Christmas walk with the hubby through some Christmas lights....we spent it with Ricky holding my hair back for me and me hugging the toilet, followed by a nap with a heating pad on my belly. You know you come here a lot when the waitresses recognize you and genuinely ask how you've been. :) I used to get the sushi rolls (TY roll) and tonkotsu ramen a lot, but now I just get the Haru Ichiban gozen because it combines all of my favorite things: miso cod (yes!! also available as an appetizer, or part of their seafood dinner), salmon sashimi, and a little bit of tempura if I'm craving something fried. Green tea comes free. Tonkotsu ramen comes with perfectly chewy noodles and rich but not overwhelming ramen broth (don't get ginger, it turns everything pink and gingergy). It's my favorite ramen in all of Atlanta. I'm just super happy every time we eat here. It's reliably good, waitstaff is friendly (sometimes frantic if they're really busy, but who isn't), and I have a good list of fall backs if I'm not feeling adventurous and wanting to branch out on trying something new. read more

Went here on Valentine's day for dinner. The restaurant was very busy but we did not wait long to be seated. Took forever for the waitress to come get our drink orders and another 15 minutes before she came back for dinner order. The menu is HUGE! Pages and pages of options to choose from. It was honestly a bit overwhelming. Ordered salmon roll, fatty tuna roll, and two bowls of ramen. Rolls were on point! Things started to go down hill after that. We were only brought out 1 bowl of ramen instead of 2. Sat awkwardly while we waited to flag the waitress down. She did apologize and then got the second order in. The ramen was lacking flavor. This is a quaint little restaurant basically in a strip mall. The outside appearance isn't very attractive but the interior was quite cute. We were starving so we set a reservation for 5:45. Once we entered we were quickly greeted and seated. However, after given our water it took a while for the waitress to take our order. Soft shell crab- it was crunchy and meaty but the batter was too thick and the dipping sauce tasted like straight up soy sauce. 3/5 Vegetable and shrimp tempura- you get 2 shrimps and the rest veggies. It was a bit skimpy but overall good. The shrimp was extremely fresh and the veggies were tender. But once again the batter was way too thick. 3.5/5 Uni- I'm pretty ashamed to admit that as a foodie that this was my first time ever having one. I guess I steered away from it because I witnessed someone having a very bad experience with it once. They complained that it was slimy, fishy and overall nasty. But my friend convinced me to try it and it was completely the opposite here. It was extremely fresh, creamy and light in flavor. I don't have any others to compare it to but my friend said he would give it a 4/5. Miso soup- Very ordinary. Nothing really jumped out as good or bad. 3/5 Special holiday roll- YOU GUYS HAVE TO GET THIS!! Omg...it was unbelievably good. This isn't something that they only offer on the holidays and is year round. Just a warning that there is a slight kick since there's a thin piece of jalapeño rolled in but it's amazing. All the ingredients were extremely fresh and they are very generous with the tuna and crab. They found a unique combination which is an explosion of flavor once you put it in your mouth. SOOOO good! 5/5 Toro- It was creamy as expected and it was fresh but it didn't melt in my mouth as some of the others I've experienced. It was still quite good. 4/5 Bacon wrapped scallop skewers- I like crispy bacon but this was cooked way too long. It literally crumbled like bacon bits that you used to put in salads back in the day. Also, they accidentally gave us asparagus instead of scallops. 3/5 The restaurant was pretty packed by the time we left and this was on a Tuesday evening. All in all it was good. Here's what I got, Rainbow Sushi Roll, Fatty Tuna Roll, and the Calamari. The calamari I found only mediocre, and will probably not order again, while the Fatty Tuna Roll was above average. The Rainbow Roll was the one thing I really did enjoy (Actually, I also enjoyed the free appetizer of the seaweed-like leaves and Edamame). The Rainbow Roll was tastier than ones I've had at a lot of other places. I still have high hopes for this place, so will go back and order some other things that people recommend! read more

My friends and I came here to have dinner on a Sunday night around 6:30pm. We had a group of 15 and was able to make a reservation pretty last minute to be accommodated (we called around 5:30pm). The server brought us both tea and water as well as a small dish with edamame and seaweed. They have quite a variety of items on their menu, but since I like a little bit of everything - I went with the Gozen menu and picked the Haru Ichiban Gozen (~$27) which comes with miso soup, tempura, 6 pieces of sashimi, and your choice of meat (I chose wafu beef steak), and a roll cake for dessert. It's a bit pricey, but definitely a lot of food and a great combination if you don't mind splurging a little on your meal. Some of my friends got the Daimyou Gozen which is basically the same idea but with better sashimi options (toro and uni) and that costs $37. Overall, the food quality was decent. My only complaint is that my wafu beef steak was overcooked. I picked this out of a friend's recommendation, but I'll probably go with another meat choice if I come back here next time. Grab some sushi at the counter here when I was visiting the area. The menu was incredibly large, and they also had specials on a board on top of that. Went with the sushi sashimi combo. Nothing really stood out, including that fairly decent cut of fatty tuna sashimi. I think maybe the freshness was a bit lacking. It wasn't bad fish, but honestly just wasn't too great at the price point they were charging. Saw the sushi chefs banged out quite a few rolls, but those looked only decent as well. I ate there once right before Covid happened and tried their dinner special $49.99 for 2 appetizers and entrees. It's well worth the price. All quality ingredients and simply put, good food. We ordered their kaarage chicken and tuna appetizer. The wasabi sauce that came with the tuna was amazing!! We ordered 3 rolls and they are all taste amazing. I'm not that into rolls with gazillion of sauces on top since that kind of taking the taste away but Haru Ichiban did it just right. Since covid happens, we ordered pickup twice and the taste is just as amazing as when we ate it there. Love this place! read more

This is my favorite sushi restaurant in Duluth. I usually come for the lunch and while they are typically full and busy, they are great at acknowledging you when you walk in and get you a seated pretty quickly. This consistent and expedited service is perfect for when you're on a lunch break. The only thing I've had (and will continue to order) is the sushi lunch special that comes with 8 pieces of nigiri, a traditional roll (my choice is spicy tuna), and the usual miso soup and salad. Their fish is always fresh and expertly rolled and pieced together. I've never gotten a roll that ended up falling apart. The nigiri pieces are delicious and a good variety; I enjoy and have eaten every piece. I used to worry about the "chef's choice" nigiri and that I'd not like certain ones, but here, I've not yet been disappointed. The lunch special is a good value at $15.95 considering that some nigiri traditionally can cost $3-5 a la carte. read more

If I'm ever craving sushi and need a fix, this and another location in the Duluth area is the place I go to. Haru Ichiban is located within the same shopping center as Iron Age, Pho House, Zero Degrees, and Mac Lab, but on the side facing Satellite Blvd.They're a small mom and pop shop serving authentic Japanese cuisine, which is a rarity in this part of town. You'll always get a small complimentary appetizer plate once you get situated. It's usually a combination of edamame and seaweed, such as hijiki or dried small sardines/anchovies. We've tried a majority of items on their menu and all are equally delicious, but my favorites will always be their sushi selection, takoyaki, okonomiyaki, and udon items. Haru Ichiban is always consistent, ingredients are fresh and handled with care. Customer service is great! The ladies always make me feel welcomed. The restaurant provides a variety of seating options: bar, booth, and table seating. There's a space on the left side of the restaurant for larger parties. read more
