The very first time I went to Haruki they didn't have the new renovations yet. The sushi was not good and I remember I never wanted to eat sushi again because of that experience but I ventured to trying out sushi elsewhere and it was great so I got back into eating sushi. At the time the sushi was so small in size, and the sauce was runny. It just wasn't a good experience. Recently with the new renovations, I decided to go back and try their food because of my love of sushi from other restaurants. I have to say, the flavor and presentation of their sushi has improved SIGNIFICANTLY! I thought the sushi tasted very good, the rolls were tight and not falling apart and the sashimi tasted fresh. I gave them a 4 star because the service was kind of lacking, the water was not filled...we just waited...and waited. Would recommend for the sushi! read more

My most favorite thing about Haruki is their curry. It is simply delicious and very easy on the wallet. What I don't like about it is that the carrot and broccoli they give you on the side are undercooked. It's not a big offense though, so I don't mind it. The sampler platter is good, their crab rangoons are especially good. The oyster katsu I had was a little oily but delivers all that is promised. The first time I came, I had a B-12 bento box but was unimpressed because the teriyaki chicken was dry and flavorless and the salad was simply okay. The sashimi was the best part of the dish. On one visit, I was excited to try all the things on their menu that isn't usually available elsewhere such as the futomaki, tamago nigiri, and inarizushi. Unfortunately I was in for disappointment. The contents of the futomaki tasted old, the egg was extremely spongy and dripping with sauce, and I was overall unimpressed with what I ordered. Even the unagi nigiri left me disappointed. Came in after having to leave another Restaraunt as I got left hanging at bar for 20+ minutes not able to even place an order for a drink nevermind food. Bartender was on point. Welcomed me asked what I wanted to drink or wanted to see a drink menu. Friendly and welcoming which is my biggest pet peeve when going out to eat. I can forgive so so food if service is top notch. Stopped at Haruki with Miyako, Diego and Isabela after catching a movie the other night. We chose to sit at the sushi bar. Isabela had Chirashi and reported it to be quite good. The portion size seem very big, but she managed to chow it down without issues. Miyako ordered the Sushi dinner and also gave her dish high marks. Diego order one of the rolls and also enjoy his dish. I ordered the Sashimi/Sushi platter and thoroughly enjoyed my dish. The sushi chef, who made our dishes was clearly very skills and whipped out our plates very quickly and all were aesthetically very pleasing. The quality and freshness of the sushi/sashimi was good and overall very tasty. Though it is not the best sushi I have had, it warrants a return visit. Salud! read more

Poor service. Asked to sit in the back in a booth and my family and I were ignored once seated. We waited 15 minutes and I stood up to go find a waitress. When I finally got the attention of a waitress she was extremely rude. The service in this restaurant is poor now. I've eaten here in the past and had great service but now after tonight I won't be coming back. Lastly I asked for the manager and was told she wasn't around. Good sushi, stiff drinks, friendly staff ... great ingredients to a really nice meal in the Cranston/Warwick area! They've made quite a few changes to the restaurant outside and inside, as the place was not matching up to its food : it still doesn't compare esthetically to the Haruki in Providence, but they've definitely made it nicer from what it used to be. The sushi is EXTREMELY fresh : the salmon melts in your mouth, best yellowtail in the state, and even though it's not on the menu, ask for the Die Hard maki rolls ... made with yellowtail, scallion & jalapenos with cilantro on the outside, they're really to die for! read more

Haruki is my favorite sushi restaurant. I go there often and have never had a bad experience. The price is fair and the food is excellent quality. My finance and I split the Sushi Heaven almost every time we go. I mean come on they serve the thing on a wooden boat!! They upgraded the place pretty recently so the bar is beautiful. They give you the option to sit at a table or the sushi bar where you can watch your food being made. Service is consistent and friendly. read more

I am a big fan of Haruki. Their sushi has been very consistent over the 7 years we have been going. The staff behind the sushi bar are typically friendly and chatty (a few are not but we don't always sit up there). I have only had to wait for a table 1 time and that was at a peak of a Friday night. Wait staff are friendly and knowledgeable about the choices. Service is typically above average and attentive. My wife typically gets a Bento box and enjoys it every time. I stick to various rolls and sushi. I haven't had a bad one yet! (other than something I just didn't have the taste for). There is no sashimi on the menu but I know they will serve it. You just have to know what to ask for. They have recently remodeled the inside and it looks much better. From time to time they do cooking classes. I've eaten at Haruki many times before mostly for lunch. I tend to order the sushi regular and I have never left unsatisfied. However, the past two times for takeout I found the fish to be subpar at best. This time however the salmon was inedible and there was a mystery fish that was seared and like rubber. The tuna was faintly red and almost not chewable. Besides the fact they used to give California rolls and they substituted it with a tuna roll that has no flavor and no avocado or cucumber. I'm not sure what happened to this place but it used to be the best around. I will not be going back. read more

I can't believe I haven't reviewed this place sooner considering the fact I've been going since high school, a long long time ago. The primary reasons for my continue patronage and preference to have sushi here over most places in the state: 1- Their sticky sushi rice game is on point. Rice is an important part of the sushi experience unless you are strictly sashimi. There rice is never over cooked and has the perfect consistency, with a bit of give when you bite into it. 2- Spicy Scallop roll. Nowhere else cooks their spicy scallop and their spicy sauce is out of this world. 3- Ginger salad dressing. This is by far the best one I have had to date. They even bottle it and sell it. 4- While we are on the topic of sauces and dressings, they have a salad, with a simple name "Spicy Tuna Salad" and the dressing is a combination of spicy sauce and the ginger dressing (at least that's my guess), fresh tuna sliced atop a bed of mixed greens and topped off with to book and crunchies. 5- Daisuke roll. This is my second favorite roll Inside: Spicy tuna, cucumber, asparagus and tempura bits. Outside: Tuna, tobiko, mayo sauce, sweet sauce, chili sauce and cilantro. Haruki has consistently good food. We go for the sushi, appetizers and miso soup for the kids. The sushi is very good. Their specialty rolls don't wow me like some other places we've tried but that's a small complaint. We love going there for lunch because the kids love the food. Also, they have those plastic things to put on the chopsticks for the kids. It seems like a small thing but it's a big hit with the kids and it makes our experience much more pleasant. read more

Perhaps my expectations for sushi are higher than most, considering that I'm Japanese and I live in the NJ/NY area. Overall, we had a nice meal - I had the hamachi donburi and she had a regular sashimi, and we shared a tempura soft-shell crab and we each had green tea, totalling $44 not including gratuity. Although both the decor and clientele simply can not compare to their "East" location, the flagship Haruki was my introduction to Japanese cuisine - that is, Japanese cuisine from Cranston. The interior is quite cozy and their handmade ceramics are really cool. My old man alleges they were crafted by his friend "Billy". Gravitating to what most diners may consider "starters", I am always satisfied by their miso soup and edamame. A selection of vege-based rolls usually rounds out my meal which is consistent, fresh-tasting and inexpensive (all told less than $20 for all the above items). An oversized mug (again, "made by Billy") filled nearly to the brim with earthy green tea, serves as a perfect digestive aid and conclusion to both the Haruki experience and this review. read more

I really like the Cranston outpost of Haruki - I haven't been to their main location on Wayland Square, on Providence's East Side. I've been coming here sporadically over the past years, but have been dining there more often recently - ever since I discovered their soft shell crab tempura appetizer. I am in LOVE with it! I took my friend to Haruki for her December birthday and she just took me there for my February birthday! Both times we ordered the soft shell crab tempura appetizer (mmwaahh!!) and we also had a variety of sushi and one of us had the bento box on one occasion. Everything was wonderful. The food has always been fresh and delicious. Since we each celebrated birthdays, our nice waiters brought us a large deep fried ice cream (in tempura batter) for a comp dessert, decorated with lovely mounds of whipped cream, a cherry and a lit candle. The last time we got the mango fried ice cream and it was exceptionally delicious. Haruki definitely knows how to fry ice cream and serve it properly, with the crust being cooked throughout, and the ice cream inside still ice cold, and not a liquidy mess. In my opinion, everything I've ever dined on at Haruki had been excellent - I have NO complaints!! FIVE STARS! read more

Haruki is our go to place when we want sushi. My husband loves it and will often come home with sushi takeout. We have never eaten inside however, until now. We decided to sit at the sushi bar which is a seat yourself type of thing. The restaurant is very clean, I have to say, as is the sushi bar area. Our order consisted of: Philadelphia Rolls, California Rolls, Miso Soup, salad and white rice. The sushi rolls were great and tasted very fresh. The Miso soup was not. It was overloaded with seaweed and that took away from the flavor of the broth. All I could taste and get in my spoon was seaweed, literally. The salad was just, salad. Very bland, only lettuce, kind of salad. Nothing was added to it whatsoever. The white rice was fine, of course. I think we will just stick to ordering our sushi here from now on. read more

I've been here many times (fast service, not usually a wait). They only have a handful of megarolls that are good, but the ones that are are definitely spot on. Tried every appetizer on the menu, not one is good (kept trying, though!) Good for quick sushi, I recommend the Diasuke roll or the Superman. Spicy, flavorful, delicious. read more

I always get the spicy tuna salad, it is absolutely excellent (and super affordable)and the tuna is definitely fresh everytime. I typically pair this with any variety of handrolls or sashimi. I have been here a few times and I have always had great service and fresh sushi. The only thing I have noticed was that recently there was an increase in price. For a tekka maki (tuna roll) it's 6 dollars which I think is a bit more expensive than most places I go to. But aside from that the service was great and the quality was also. When I came here for my birthday the waitress was really sweet and friendly and recommended different sakes and gave me ice cream tempura for dessert. I have been eating sushi at Haruki's since they were on Park Ave. I have never had a bad or even not so good meal served to me. The fish has always been very fresh! Service is immediate! I will NEVER GO HERE AGAN ! I got takeout from Haurkis 2 days ago and it inedible! It was clearly BAD FISH along with burnt rice. I call the restaurant and was HUNG UP ON while I explaining my issue! I would only eat sushi from Haurkis in the past every week but I will never eat there again and make sure I let everyone else know! I'm disgusted and disappointed that they would treat a paying loyal customer or any customer this way. I called yesterday and asked to speak to a manager and was told they were busy and would review my order and call me back. SHOCKER they never called me back. The many fish tanks sometimes smell funny. This made me wary on my first visit, as I tend to have a rule about sushi restaurants- don't eat in them if they smell like fish. (Once it was established that it was indeed the tanks, I was OK eating here). Good lunch specials. Inventive rolls. Decent sushi. Nothing terribly special about the fish. It has been ages since I went to Haruki, so I decided to go for lunch a week ago. I was amazed by how good it was because I had stopped going due to the food being just average and the service not being so great. This time however I was very pleased. The service was quick and impersonal, which is really important around lunch time. We ordered a few different rolls, gyoza, chicken teriyaki, and cooked octopus sushi. The gyoza were very moist and the pork inside was cooked perfectly, however they didn't have much of a flavor. the rolls were great and very fresh. I hate that some places treat the fish with chemicals to keep them fresh (Kon, Seven Moons), this produces a wierd undesirable taste. The octopus sushi was a very unexpected treat. We thought it was going to be a small piece sliced and served over rice. Instead it was a baby octopus head and all over rice. I was fascinated by this because I love to try new things. The chicken teriyaki was perfect like it was two years ago, which was the last time I was here. Overall a great place for sushi that isn't all about decor and lacks quality and freshness (Kon, Ichigo Ichie, Shark Bar). If you have a fancy place fine but your food better be damn good as well. Lately I have made it a policy to only eat Asian food from family owned businesses, that don't spend all there time on ambiance and lack the funds to hire the appropriate chefs.
