The hubby planned a long weekend in Columbus several months ago, and Harvest Bar + Kitchen was our first stop. I absolutely loved the restaurant decor! It had a trendy, modern yet rustic, farmhouse aesthetic. I have never quite seen this exact aesthetic before and really liked it. We couldn't resist ordering two appetizers - Pimento Cheese and Hush Puppies. The Pimento Cheese was descent but the Hush Puppies - especially with the accompanying Honey Butter - knocked my socks off. For my meal, I ordered the White Pizza. We came here for dinner on the weekend. The interior was relaxed despite being busy, with a small bar as well as tables, a few TV screens, and the better classic rock playing in the background. The food was delicious overall, but... My dining companions reported that the burger and salad were great. I had a sausage and fennel pizza, which was carried by Excellent cheese and crust. But the fennel part was just a green wisp on top, which lent almost nothing. I was expecting real chunks of fennel mixed with the sausage and cheese, so I was a little disappointed in that, but still happy with what I got. We also started with the Olives and Peppers plate as an appetizer, and this was a bit of a disappointment. We were brought a bowl with a mix of jarred olives and a couple peppers - fine, there was variety, but nothing special. And no crackers or bread to as a vehicle. I wanted to give them a better review but this most recent trip to harvest just didn't hit the mark. Our appetizer favorite is the Brussels sprouts, and this time they forgot the honey drizzle (my favorite part!) so they tasted just a little too salty and a little lacking. The buffalo cauliflower is great if you like buffalo things; the cauliflower is thickly battered and crispy with a nice tangy hot sauce. For our main course, my family got the portabello philly, a build-your-own pizza, and the special of the day (aloo gobi with basmati rice). I got the chopped salad for dinner (full), and was disappointed. Not only did it come out late (about 10 minutes after the pizza and philly), but I wish the chickpeas had at least been somewhat seasoned instead of just drained from the can. My mom's aloo gobi, unfortunately, came out probably 20 minutes after everyone else's food, though they did comp her meal. The rice was super soggy and mushy, but the veggies were pretty good. It comes with a flatbready thing on the side that is kind of like a big pita chip, and that wasn't great either. I guess I was just expecting a piece of naan or something. The sandwich was quite good though, and the pizza was also tasty as usual! The only thing with that is that we asked for arugula on there and they forgot it at first, but quickly remedied that by bringing out a little side. All in all, I've had better trips here. On a Saturday morning after having spent part of the previous evening out drinking, a friend called and asked if I would like to have lunch with him and another friend. They needed good food that would help them to wake up from their Friday evening escapades. I recommended Harvest -- mainly because I had never been there and was curious about its food -- and so we met up. The place is very well located in Clintonville, and parking is easy. Despite it being a Saturday at noon, there was no problem getting a table for the three of us. The server immediately brought water to the three of us and asked if we wanted another drink. I usually just stick with water at lunch, but my glass had some rather curious floaties that I preferred not to deal with. So I ordered a ginger beer. The other two had coffee. For lunch I had a bacon and meatball pizza, which was really quite good and the perfect size for my appetite. One of my friends also had a pizza, and the other had a burger. They agreed that the food met their needs. The one with the burger thought it was one of the best burgers he had ever had, but I noticed that grease poured off his hands as he ate it; a small puddle of grease had formed in his plate as well. I like burgers, but I certainly don't want to feel as if I'm drinking a cup of grease along with it. The ambiance is casual, sort of hipster, and there was a wide variety of people dining there. I felt that it was a little too warm because one of the heat vents was blowing directly onto me the whole time. Luckily I had worn a short-sleeve shirt. Will I go back? If friends want to go, sure. It's not a place where I'd stop on my own to eat or that I would put at the top of my list of recommendations, but it was good. read more

Harvest is still kicking up great stuff at their Clintonville location. It's tough to get in here if you're running any kind of timeline, but we managed to squeeze through a Friday-night wormhole for dinner. First: yes, Harvest is a smaller space, especially in the winter when their front and side patios are not in use. Please, PLEASE do not show up at 5:30pm Friday with a party of 7 and expect to be seated right away. Or, if you do, don't get salty when they quote you an hour. (Yes, we saw that. Don't be that guy.) However, it is worth being scrunched in near the front door and you'll thank those folks for keeping the cold air out during dinner. We were willing to shar the communal table with another couple and so were seating quickly on this visit. Space: lovely, farmhouse-kitchen feel, rough-hewn tables and chairs. Booths are available, too. Smallish and cozy. Bar: yes, with lots of great options, especially for beer. Service: Our server was knowledgable about their rotating taps and we had an awesome winter wheat on her recommendation. They are totally awesome about not rushing you through any part of your meal, or trying to hustle you out for table turnover. It's true that tables turn over quickest when service is timed appropriately. The balance between waiting for service and being rushed through service is literally a minute or two. ANYWAY. Food: hummus plate with papadam & veggies - yummy, sagey goodness. We could enjoy it before our fennel sausage pizza arrived. Lots of local beers on tap, and local ingredients used in their sinfully delicious pizzas. If you don't get the spicy yuma, you'll regret it. After one bite, it moved up to my favorite pizza in town. If you like thin crust, you'll love theirs. It's seasoned well, perfectly cooked, and supports the weight of all of the delicious toppings. I got the all American burger and a side salad. I was surprised that you could pick any of their salad options to be your side salad which was nice. I got the kale Cesar salad which was very good. My burger was cooked perfectly and was juicy. The buns were huge and very heavy, I had to take the top bun off. It is an expensive place. Well I second the vomiting review. After reading all the good reviews and ignoring the nausea one, I decided to give this place a try with my little sister. We were on a college visit trip to OSU and as an OSU alumnus, I was determined to show her all Columbus had to offer and convince her to come here for school. Except all I did was give us food poisoning... We arrived around 7pm. The wait was long for only two of us - 45 minutes, but they did accurately quote the time and it is a small restaurant. The hostess was very nice and friendly and everyone looked to be enjoying their food so we decided to commit to the wait. I got a drink at the bar and the bartender let me try their Harvest Pale Ale before getting a whole one. That was nice. Once we were sat, it took a while for our waitress to come over to greet us. Luckily, they already had waters on the table. We ordered the meatballs to share as an appetizer and each got our own pizza. I chose the Margarita and my sister created her own of the mozzarella/provolone cheese and pepperoni. Everything was quite good in the moment. We waited too long again after finishing for our server to check back on us and give us the check. I shrugged it off because the meal was very tasty. Flash forward to about 1am. My sister and I were both puking our guts out and it was not pretty. All that marinara burns on the way back up. We puked all night. (Mind you, I haven't puked in over 5 years since I was back in my college days and my sister hadn't puked since she had a stomach flu 3 years back. Neither of us have weak stomachs.) What a terrible disappointment and awful experience, especially when I was trying to make it a perfect weekend for my sister. In summary, great food until it comes back up. Well, where I'm from we throw this word around all the time, but when I moved to Ohio I quickly realized it wasn't used here at all. Got an extra beignet thrown in your basket? That's the lagniappe. A free refill at your favorite coffee shop? Yep, that's the lagniappe. Okay, now that you've got the idea, let's get on with the review of the new Clintonville Harvest Kitchen + Bar... I promise there's a point to all this. I adore the original Harvest and think their pizza is one of the best in the 'Bus. Their new C-ville location serves that same amazing pizza, but in a much bigger space! Harvest Kitchen + Bar has tons of street parking, and the interior is big and beautiful. Seriously, the details here can't be outdone. I want my house to look like this place! So, sadly, I'm not eating wheat anymore (long story), and I heard that Harvest makes a GF crust... so I just *had* to check it out. And the taste? Honestly... kinda meh. The dough was really thick and mealy. And if you know Harvest, you know they're known for this thin, crispy, delicious crust. I was really sad that I didn't love it. But why the 5 stars anyway? Well, this is a pizza place. And a damn good one at that. I never, EVER, expect a place whose main product is based on wheat--to offer a GF option. So when a business goes out of their way to make a homemade GF pizza, that's insanely courteous... it's the lagniappe. And you can't deduct a star when it's a little something extra. So am I going to run to Harvest for their GF pizza? Nope. But am I thrilled that when my friends want the best pizza in town, I can actually join them and eat? You betcha. read more

I'm finally catching up on a bunch of reviews from recent lunch meet-ups, and Harvest is probably one of the best lunches I've had so far! Our group of four adults and two kids met right at 11, which helped us successfully beat the lunch crowd (they started trickling in around 1145). We were seated in one of the booths up front, and fortunately they had window shades since it was actually a bit warm and sunny. I ordered the ginger beer (and got the last can, sorry). It was good, but I was reading the can afterwards and noticed high fructose corn syrup in the ingredients, so be warned if that's a problem for you. We all had the lunch special pizzas, which are $7 for a 9" pizza (a fantastic deal!) and I got the $2 caesar kale salad as well. The salad was simple, just plenty of dense kale, lightly dressed and sprinkled with cheese. The fennel sausage pizza was very good, a good chew to the crust, though next time I would probably build my own pizza and forgo the ferny green bits on top. I have a small stomach capacity, so I was able to comfortably eat half and save the other half for later. The space is really lovely, our waitress was great about accommodating the kids at the table, and there was no problem splitting the checks. The price, location, food, and service all combined made a great experience. I don't even like pizza that much, and I'm already thinking about planning another lunch meet-up here! read more

So, okay. I am always up for trying new places and was in a pizza mood. I stopped by on a weekday afternoon and was surprised to find a parking spot right out front. Inside, less the 1/3 of the tables were filled. But it was around 3, long after the lunch crowd. I got my pick of seats, I took a table along the banquet wall. My server was very attentive. Since I think it's always good to drink before dinner, I started out with a Moscow Mule. I am a first timer for this drink. But my server advised that it would be a little bit sweet and that's exactly what I was looking for. It's made with Vodka, ginger beer, ginger liqueur and lime. Super refreshing. For my meal, I decided to get lunch special fennel sausage pizza. It is topped with Gouda, smoked provolone, red onion and fennel. I had them add pineapple. I am not sure how to describe the crust. It seemed a little light and soft and fluffy. I have never had pizza crust like this and I loved it. And the sauce and the toppings was amazing. I am one of those crazy people that eat something I love and get it again and again. But I think this is a place where you go again and again to try something new. read more

I love the original Harvest pizzeria and I was absolutely thrilled when they opened a second pizza store in Clintonville! The location is easy to get to and there is plenty of parking in the back! The restaurant itself is beautifully decorated as their other restaurant with plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Service is great as always...smiling faces greet you and your food always arrives promptly. Now to the best part - the food! I absolutely love the kale caesar salad (kale, Parmesan, anchovy dressing and wild caught Galician sardines). The sardines are so fresh...just melt in your mouth! Pizza wise - we've had about all of them but I keep going back to the veggie and mushroom pizza as my regulars. The crust is perfect - a bit of wood-char, crispy yet chewy crust...it's so good! What a boost in awesomeness this place gives High Street and Clintonville. I had been wanting to try Harvest Pizza and was absolutely thrilled when I found out that they had built a locale closer to me (I hate driving to German Village). There was plenty o' parking and plenty of open seats. We started with the Kale Caesar, which I loved. The kale flavor within the caesar framework took a moment to get used to, but once I did, I gobbled up every little drop. My honey couldn't get over the bitterness, though, so unless you love kale (like I do), you may not like this salad. I ordered the roasted veggie sandwich and replaced those dry-looking sweet potato chips with the fingerling fries and that was pretty much the best choice I had made all day. The potatoes were excellent (just needed a little salt) and the sandwich was also great. The bread that they use for the sandwiches is amazing. Very soft and just plain delectable. My partner had the fennel sausage pizza and loved it. Although, he thought it could use more toppings. There were basically 5-7 small pieces of sausage on the pizza. The flavor was outstanding, though. We also tried the buckeye pie, which was good, except for the extremely bland crust. The pie was completely different than what I was expecting and I liked that. Lots of yummy, custardy, deliciousness. They just need to fix that crust on the asap. Employees were very nice, although our waitress never formally introduced herself or welcomed us to the restaurant. The establishment is small so you'll be sitting pretty close to your neighbors. The prices are a wee-bit steep. $11 to $15 bucks for an 11 inch pizza or a sandwich. If you can get here before the crowds, I would highly recommend this place. read more

I haven't been to the German Village location but I'm happy to have had my first Harvest experience in Clintonville. Came on a Wednesday night and the parking lot was easy to find and there was plenty of parking available! We were easily seated inside (our preference) and having stalked the menu online, I knew what I wanted to order beforehand. I want to say that you can't go wrong with anything on the menu since everything looked delicious. I ordered the margarita pizza with added pineapple and sausage! It came out hot but ready to eat! My friend ordered the veggie burger and that burger alone could possibly convince me to give up meat! Overall, the food was very well prepared and absolutely yummy! I got a chance to go to Harvest on Friday night for a great meal. It's taken me way too long to try this place, and I'm glad I finally did. I used to live in the apartments right behind the restaurant, but it was Mozart's at the time, and right after I left, Harvest moved in. Bummer. There was a bit of a wait when we got there, about 30-45 min, but the girlfriend and I were lucky, and a couple people were getting up from the bar, so we sat down and ordered there. Before I go any further, let me say that it's kind of confusing when you go in, because there's no host/hostess stand, and only one person was taking names down while also seating people. When we first walked in, we sort of just stood there, and I felt like I was kind of just hovering over people eating. Anywho, we ordered the warm ricotta, and then I got the spicy yuma pizza while my girlfriend created her own. The ricotta was just so-so, pretty bland, and it almost reminded me of like a slightly sweeter hummus due to the texture. I love ricotta, but I don't know how I feel about it as a dip. Oh well, I still ate it all. As for the pizza, it was phenomenal. The combination of spices and peppers on my pizza was delicious, and both of them had an amazing crust. I'll say that the bottom crust isn't very firm, so you have to make sure you grip it from the bottom, or your pizza toppings may fall right off. We both really enjoyed our meals, and the service was a great. The bartender, Matt, was a pretty funny guy, and he was down to chat a bit even though it was pretty busy in there. I'll definitely be back to this place, and I'll try to swing down to German Village to get a comparison. read more

Great veggie burger!!! Wow, I could not stop praising my way through this burger! Black bean and wild rice mixture held firmly together on a bed of soft lettuce and topped with a most interesting relish of marinated cauliflower, green olives, jalapeño, and cashews. The flavors were gorgeous, with the smokiness of the burger perfectly offset by the slightly acidic topping, on a warm, toasted bun. It came, of course, with the fingerling fries, which appear to be deep fried smashed cooked fingerlings. They are delicious and not too heavy. You have to try them! The service was excellent, but we were there on a Monday at 4 pm, so... I've been there at other times and left not wanting to wait 45 minutes for a table, but on other busy nights, the service kept pace with the demand. In fact, Havest really isn't a good match up for my pepperoni and mushroom consistency - you're much better off ordering one of their specialty pizzas with the more unique toppings. Harvest's crust is the star of the show - it's crisp on the outside, soft in the middle and VERY chewy (you'll need some good chompers to rip off a bite). I love the char spots as they add great flavor. My pizza could've used more sauce. It was also a little light on the toppings, which all seemed to gravitate towards the middle of the pizza, leaving you with a few topping-filled bites and then a bunch of crust with some cheese bites. The bar here is well-stocked with some top-notch hooch and wine and the service is very friendly. I had had the original Harvest early on in my Tuesday pizza quest (before I started Yelping about them) and always had that pegged as five stars in my mind . . . . the lack of sauce and topping slide to the middle just brought this down a star, but it's still one of the best artisan pizzas you can find in Columbus. read more

Pizzas I tried and highly recommend: fennel sausage, pepperoni, and the clam pizza! I love clams, but I was a little hesitant about having it on a pizza. I had a slice and loved it!
