I have eaten great burgers all of my 50 plus years. I worked my way through high school and college flipping burgers at some of the better places in Dallas. I mention this as Harvey B's is one of the best tasting burgers in Dallas! I've been there many times for burgers, salads, spiral fries with queso. Their shakes are great! They have RC Cola! RC cola with a dash of lemonade is the best! But I digress. The key to their fame is the owner knows the taste buds of Dallas. The burgers are char grilled. A chargrilled patty on a salad (or 2) is THE way to lower the carbs. It may not have a sitting area to eat, but, for take out, I have not found a better burger joint in Dallas. I ordered the 1/4lb bacon and jalepeno burger and it was just awesome. It was the perfect size and the jalepenos were nicely grilled and had a little kick to them. Since I typically like fries and not sprial fries ( chips, pretty much) I also ordered the jalepeno poppers and was a little disappointed. I immediately recognized the taste because it reminded me of what I usually pick up at Wal-Mart. I was sad that they didn't make their own popper, especially since they make their own ranch dressing to go with it. The poppers were also 4 bucks for an order of 4 which makes it a buck each for something that I can find in the frozen isle. I recognize that some people like their burgers cooked this way, but it was a two-star burger at best according to my taste. I ordered a special from the blackboard--the Bacon Bleu Burger. It came with lettuce, tomato and mayo, but I skipped the mayo. It was big, but it wasn't particularly special. The bacon was plentiful but I felt cheated don the bleu cheese. The worst part was the patty itself--char-grilled...emphasis on char...crispy, black and well done throughout. My son ordered the Pancho Villa...1/2 lb patty, hash browns, egg, cheese and a 1/4 inch thick slice of ham. It came with Thousand Island dressing, but he ordered it without, because Thousand Island is gross. I'm thinking this burger could be a stoner's paradise, if it weren't so difficult to handle. Harvey B's buns are tasty, but they aren't quite rugged enough to handle Señor Villa. The patty on this sandwich was as dry as mine. We ordered both the spiral cut fries and the onion rings. The fries were pretty tasty, but the rings missed the mark. The over-seasoned batter completely masked the taste of the onion. So two really large burgers, spiral cut fries, onion rings and two fountain drinks came in over $25. Not cheap, but we did order the 1/2 pounders. But I'm never one to be scared off from a good meal buy a neighborhood in fact I have found some of my best meals in some of the strangest places. I was excited to try this place it had all of the makings of a place where you get a great burger. Old run-down looks like it's been in business for several years and oh yes it is behind burglar bars! I got the bacon blue Burger. And while it was okay it was charbroiled which I loved but it was overcooked. No it was not burned but it was cooked to a level where the flavor was out of it. So the only flavors that I had was a dry Burger with blue cheese crumbles and bacon. If I returned I would definitely ask them not to cook the burger so well done. I must say though the sides were delicious. From the french fries to the spiral cut potato chips with cheese melted on them or queso your option or the onion rings they were spot-on. If you haven't stepped into this east Dallas eatery, you aren't east Dallas. Harvey B's is the quant burger spot that you get your burger & fries in a paper bag. The standard burger is a 1/2 pound of heavenly goodness on a bun. But I will also tell you to not sleep on the chicken fried steak platter. Dollar for dollar it's a steal! Strawberry shakes are a must. Seating is very limited. As in 6 stools that are mostly used when waiting on your food. So I recommend carry out or coming during non peak hours. Staff is fairly friendly. You're not there long enough to get their life story, it's just order and go! Parking: decent number of spaces on the side of the building and a couple in front. read more

The service was excellent though and I really liked the decor of the place. I tried the 1/2 pound BBQ bacon cheeseburger and the spiral fries. The burger had way too much sauce on it and the bun was falling apart due to the sauce. The meat was cooked well, but the burger just tasted like you were eating a bottle of BBQ sauce. The spiral fries pretty misleading too since they were more like potato chips than fries. They seemed to be low quality and didn't taste much better. Ok so I had high expectations for this place.ive heard a lot of good things but unfortunately for me it didn't quite meet my expectations. I did enjoy the selection of burgers this place has but some things were a little off. First the burger meat itself was good and I could tell it was fresh, the problem is though the buns were drenched in either burger juice or oil. This made the bun soggy and kind of falling apart. The curled fries are kind of more like potato chips so I would get the onion rings or tater tots instead. Go for the half pounders if you're hungry or quarter if you're not too hungry. You also get a chance to customize your burger by adding on toppings. I would say it's worth a try once but definitely not one of my favorite burger places. read more

The guy working the register was very nice to allll the customers who entered and ate when i was there. He even knew some by name. In what is indisputably as much a burger town as it is a bbq town, Harvey B's is a new kid on the block with a great menu and some great concepts. It's worth a visit, but I won't say it cracks the top ten in the city. Star 1: How were the service and atmosphere? Harvey B's location is a bit out of the way with respect to not being in any of the popular or up and coming Dallas districts, but the local flavor and friendly service have their own unique charm (to offset the bars on the windows). It's worth noting that these burgers are made fresh to order, so they can take some time, making phone orders advantageous. My buddy and I's two burgers took a good twenty minutes, and we were both wishing that we'd called ahead. Star Granted. Star 2: How were the portions relative to the cost? I imagine one of the perks of having a small storefront (literally 5 or so seats in the whole place) in a cheap neighborhood is that you can cheap prices, and Harvey B's does that with a sizable patty melt plus jalapeños for $7.29. Good stuff. Star Granted. Stars 3 and 4: How was the food? So this is what it all comes down to - the burger, and this was very much a tale of two menu items. The lesser of these two tales came in the form of my patty melt, which I'll break down below: The bun (bread in this case): While I'm not sure if it's a universal standard, I've always been under the impression that a Patty Melt = sourdough, but Harvey B's uses Rye. It doesn't particularly add or subtract from the burger, but it was certainly interesting. The patty: This was unfortunately a miss. Besides being a bit skeptical as to whether or not my patty was actually 1/2 pound, my patty was pretty significantly overcooked, which wiped the flavor off the map. Bummer. The extras: The jalapenos were a nice touch, but the Swiss cheese was an unusual default choice here. Swiss does great on something like a Pastrami sandwich or a Reuben because it can offset a bit what is an extremely flavorful and often salty meat. However, pair it with a burger and you can pretty easily nullify the flavors, which is what happened here. All in all, the patty melt was a bit of a disappointment. Now, in sharp contrast to my Patty Melt, my roommate's Pancho Villa burger was truly something special. First and foremost, this was one of the greatest concepts I've ever seen. Hash browns in a burger? Amazing. My roommate's burger, which I had half of, was bursting with flavor thanks to a properly cooked patty, an egg, great ham, hash browns, and just the right amount of 1000 islands to bring it all together. Excellent. One good one not so good? Single Star Granted. Star 5: Would you eat here every day if you could? Harvey G's has some real potential, and I'm realizing that if I could get them to dish up the below burger they might just crack top 5 in Dallas: Pancho Villa Burger but on patty melt bread. In the meantime though, I can't say they compete with some of the elites in the neighborhood to include Offsite Kitchen and Maple + Motor. No Star Granted. read more
