It is true, you will wait for hours sometimes to see Dr. Harvey. Once you get called back and taken in to an exam room expect to wait another 60+ minutes before he comes into the room. The issue is that Dr. Harvey will spend up to an hour with a patient going over test results, health issues, and referrals. Now that Dr. Harvey is working less and less and sometimes he does not come in to the office and either you get a call at the last minute or they tell you when you check in that the doctor is not in the office today. I like Harvey but I could no longer spend hours waiting to see him or trying to make an appointment with the front office and listening to that hold music. read more

Im the care taker for my 83 year old uncle and we been going there since the end of July. Nothing but bad experiences since we been there. No one answers the phone , can't get ahold of no one to schedule/ reschedule appointments, I understand there really busy and the staff is always apologetic about it also kind, but maybe they need more staff or a phone clerk.... when we are in the room waiting to be seen other patients have walked in on my uncle one time it was during a physical, not only all of that the wait time is never less than 3 hours. I'm new to caregiving with him so I didn't no why he was taking certain medications I didn't no what he needed or what were his conditions so of course once I got with this Dr I didn't want to change to another right away it takes months to get on somewhere so I said to my uncle once we get all your blood work back and find out all your conditions we can move Drs and he agreed. Well unfortunately his appointment a few days ago went left ! It was the most uncomfortable, unpredictable, unprofessional experience I have encountered with a DR. We got to the dr office at 2 o'clock appointment was at 2:15. We didn't get put into a room until 3:10 once we got into the room the nurse said we had 1 patient infront of us about 30 min later I hear Dr Harvey Cohen laughing talking about personal things not Dr patient related I waited 15 min then I opened the door to use the restroom in hopes that he would notice me and go into the room and end his conversation. But unfortunately that didn't work. He was talking to the nurse by the way not even another patient, he ended up going into the room next door mind you there was one patient ahead of us. Smh so now another 15 min goes by it's about 4:15 " ANOTHER PATIENT WALKS IN ON US AGAIN" I ask the nurse when will we be seen at this point my uncle has asked to leave multiple times his bad is hurting he has kidney problems we were there for results to a very serious situation. The nurse said she's so sorry was very apologetic, got my uncle some water and told me I should let the dr know how I feel. Now it's 4:35 and the Dr finally comes in as I'm in the phone with my uncles insurance trying to change the Dr . As I hang up the Dr rudely says HELLO HELLO HELLO waves his hand towards my face ! I'm like hi , he's like how's everything been I said I would like to just take a min and let you know how my uncle and I are feeling , upset that is it's been about 3 hrs THEN HE INTERRUPTS ME ! And said aye aye aye no no no no I DONT WANT TO HEAR IT . I hear this to much as he's yelling at me ! I'm like excuse me ! First off that's rude and I'm speaking he proceeded to say the same thing I said this is your patient you should be willing to listen seems like you may be the problem here if everyone is expressing themselves. He's like are you going to shut up ? Shut your mouth if you don't I will get up and walk away I said so you're not going to listen to our concerns and he's like I will walk away he kept yelling it! He's like do you want me to read your dad's results I'm like it's my uncle shows how much you have paid attention. It's even on his notes. I said we have waited this long might as well read the notes. And he started looking at his paper work. I got a FaceTime call from my sister I answered and said hey at the dr I'll call you back. And the Dr stood up and yelled are you recording me !!! I said no o showed him and then I put my phone in my purse he then again said loud are you recording me show me . At this point I was OVER IT . I felt uncomfortable and we were not getting the results we needed we walked out to speak to management I let them know all of this. After we went home it was already 5:15 and the dr called my uncle didn't verify if it was him and stated he should go back to him and be seen the results he got in show some type of mass and it's possible it can be cancer that it's serious. My husband ( a senior citizen and heart patient) made an appt with Dr Harvey Cohen this past week for the express purpose of getting his RX filled since he has been waiting 2 weeks for his RX to get to our pharmacy, from his previous visit about 2 weeks ago!. So after calling the office SEVERAL TIMES and his staff just kept saying that "he hasn't had a chance to sign off on your RX," my husband went in this morning and after waiting in the examining room for 45 minutes, Dr Cohen came in and said, " I will be in in a minute, I still have other stuff to take care of.." Dr Cohen did this to my husband twice- my husband said," in the time that we are talking, what I need should be pretty quick if you just give me 5 minutes". Dr Cohen said, " if you can't wait, you can just leave!" My husband got up and left- still no RX- it's been 3 weeks. I would never recommend Dr Cohen, he is overbooked and his staff is not up to par. Senior citizens require medicines and a staff that can attend to what they need when they call. None of these were new RX- they were maintenance meds that he has been on for quite awhile. All we needed was for Dr Cohen to do his part and sign off so the Pharmacy could process the RX! How would you feel if you had to wait 3 weeks for your heart medicine? Totally unacceptable!! This office is (sadly) still open. Don't know why Yelp has marked it closed. Perhaps it might as well be to fellow Yelpers here looking for a local geriatrics doctor specializing in stroke patients. This doctor was recommended by a speech therapist at a local rehabilitation facility. We scheduled an appointment time of 2/8/11 for 4:45pm three (3) weeks prior. Since he specializes in these areas, we wanted him to treat my mother who had a stroke in November. Come the day of appointment (today) we got there early, prepared with our pre-completed registration forms. After one hour wait, two guys walked in after our arrival and were sent right in to see Dr. Cohen. Another hour later, we were still waiting. We asked why the two previous guys were sent in when they arrived way after we did. (They were Caucasian, we were Asian, elderly.) We were told we were scheduled for the last appointment for the day. YET, the 2 caucasians went in before us (who arrived an hour after we did). What's wrong with this picture? Clearly, it was clear discrimination. Moreover, we had a scheduled time of 4:45. But waiting over two hours? No doctor is worth that. Don't go to this doctor if you're anything but Caucasian. Clearly, they discriminate which patients they see first. This doctor services several other hospitals too. So, he's hardly in this office treating patients. IF you can even get an appointment -- the next hurdle is IF you'll even be seen. We just took our paperwork and left. This was just our first appointment. We've never met this doctor. After this huge injustice of discrimination, clearly we won't be back again. Dr Cohen has to be one of the last "old time" doctors who really care about each and every one of his patients. I have been going to him for the last 15 years as well as most of my family. I actually look forward to my appointments with Dr. Cohen as he is always so upbeat and friendly. Never do I feel rushed or pressured and he always makes sure you get all your questions answered before you leave. Everyone I have recommended him to always thank me for putting them in touch with a doctor who takes care of all their medical needs no matter how large or small they are. Don't pay attention to those post that complain about having to wait for to see him. Believe you me he is worth it. After my wife saw the bad review of Dr. Cohen from "fusionjaz" and brought it to my attention, I was compelled to come on here and write my second ever review. I'm shocked to hear that someone would say that Dr. Cohen is racist against asians and you should only go there if you are, Quote "caucasian". Dr. Cohen is one of the most caring open minded doctors that I have had the pleasure of being in the care of. Dr. Cohen is one of the best doctors that I have visited in quite a while. I was really worried about a couple of facets of my health and he took a lot of time to delve into everything that I brought to him. It wasn't the usually greeting and dismissal that I have become so used to at the doctors. He went above and beyond for me and I hope to be under his care for a long time to come. My wife (who is asian, if it really matters) is also a patient of Dr. Cohen's and feels the same way that I do. I have never in my life had such comprehensive and attentive care as I did at Cohen's office. It was a breath of fresh air that Cohen actually spent alot of time with me and was very thorough with everything that he did. No. . . he did not just crank out patients so that everyone would be seen super quick and not receive the quality care that they should. Did I wait in the reception room? ya, for about 25 or 30 minutes. . . . . big deal. . . . I'd gladly do it again to see such a professional and personal doctor. In fact, i'd wait much longer than that to see Dr. Cohen. People need to grow up and realize that they are not entitled to anything that their heart desires. I waited 4 hrs. on this doctor on my first visit! As thorough as he is, it's a total turnoff & I'm debating if I'll ever come back. Even after he came in & asked about my medical history, I waited another 30 minutes for him to come back in for my actual physical exam. While I am posting this, I have been in his office for very close to 5 hrs. Just ridiculous! He needs a better plan because this is unacceptable. I have taken my elderly mom to Dr Cohen for the last year and a half. We have waited up to 4 hours to see hime with a scheduled appt well in advance. everytime we go in, there is a longer wait time. The last 2 times we have had an appt his nurse has called to cancel the day of the appt, and we had to reschedule. Everyone in the lobby seems to be complaining about the wait time, everytime we go in. These are all elderly patients in wheelchairs, walkers, oxygen tanks, ext... When you do finely see him, he seems knowledgable but has a lot of conversation that is not needed, jokes, telling personal stories, ect... This is all while knowing that he has a lobby full of elderly people waiting for hours. Last visit my mom was complaining about extreme back pain, it turned out she had a fractured back but Dr Cohen didn't catch that or even suggest that, he suggested it was all in her head, So hes not that good! So a long disrespectful wait for what??? His nurse cancelling my moms appt when he didn't come in referred us to another doctor and says so many people are switching due to the long wait. She understood how wrong that was and says its because he likes to talk to each patient at length when you finally see him. I don't see where that can work well for anyone. If he is tapped out with the number of patients he see's maybe he should also refuse new patients!!! read more

Dr. Cohen has been my primary care physician for close to 10 years now. He is NOT a general practitioner. He is an endocrinologist, and he specializes in geriatric care. He is above and beyond one of the best doctors I've ever known. The Pros: He is very caring, and he has to be compassionate, because his primary target group are senior citizens. He has the utmost respect for every one of his patients, that I have seen. His staff is generally helpful and pleasant. The Cons: He's a busy man. He has been in practice in the Inland Empire for over 30 years, and has a lot on his plate. He deals with mainly seniors, so sometimes, he's late on his appointments. I have waited for 4 hours before, and it was not pleasant, but I understood that it was necessary. Bottom line, is that most folks who are his regular patients understand that you are likely to wait when you have an appointment to see him. It's worth it. I give him 4 stars his staff...sometimes they're not on their game. But that's life. read more

I went to Dr. Cohen on the recommendation of another Dr,, James Lally, a friend of my daughters. I had never been to such a good, thorough Dr who took the time to LISTEN and REALLY hear what you had to say, and understand what you felt. Dr Cohen immediately found what other Drs. in Bellflower & Norco had missed and he sent me to the very best specialists who gave excellent care and I survived things i was not sure I could survive. I have known him for 17 years now, and to me, he is still the best. The wait is LONG and I take a book to read while I wait, knowing he is listening & helping others, as he has helped me in the past. When my Nephew was dying with Cancer Dr Cohen took the time to advise me on how to handle this when I saw my Nephew, it was excellent advice and I would not have handled it as well had he not talked to me, as it turned out my Nephew & I enjoyed our last visites with a deep understanding and a freedom from embarrassment, abe to cry or laugh without discomfort.. I have been treated by all three Drs. in his office and they are all excellent Drs. There is no Dr. in this world I trust more than Dr. Harvey Cohen, when I was in the hospital and saw his warm face and heard his laugh I was immediately lifted to a more secure and happy place. I have seen all of the + and - reviews of Dr. Cohen. A response is called for: 1) Racist - ridiculous, I have waited up to 4 hours for Dr. Cohen and for the record I am WHITE. Place the race card somewhere else. 2) Long wait - I have waited long enough to cancel my appointment so this is true BUT he is the best Dr. I have seen in 74 years!!!, In addition he meticulous and careful. He has ushered me through Diverticulitis (2x) and polyps and heart tests. Nuff said! 3) Excessive testing - do you want is correct or quick? Nuff said again.40 Back on the long wait issue - try calling the Dr.'s office ahead of your appointment to see if he is running late and ask for recommendation OR try making appointment first thing on list. I've been going to Dr. Cohen for over 20 years and he is an excellent, compassionate doctor. I see him at least twice a year as follow-up to cancer I had a couple of decades ago. In addition, he is my main doctor and has treated me for a variety of ailments during this time. He is very knowledgeable, listens very well, and asks appropriate questions to understand your medical problems. If need be, he will spend an extraordinary amount of time with you. He's spent up to 45 minutes examining me and going over treatment options during particularly complicated health situations. His medical treatment and friendly demeanor has improved the quality of my life greatly. The staff is friendly and professional. The medical building is fairly new, clean, with comfortable seating. A large video screen is at one end of the waiting room typically tuned to medical shows. Magazines and sometimes coffee and water are available. It's sad that Yelper, Fusionjazz jumped to the conclusion that discrimination was an issue during his visit to Dr. Cohen with his mother. At times, I and many others have waited over 2 hours to see Dr. Cohen. Others arriving after me sometimes get in before me. Like I mentioned above, Dr. Cohen will spend a lot of time with you resulting in him often running behind schedule, sometimes by a few hours. Those arriving after you, but called in before you may be called in because they made appointments with one of the other two doctors in his practice, or the nutritionist, or the psychologist, or getting lab work done. Not all people in the waiting room are there for Dr. Cohen. To accuse his office of discrimination is a sad reaction to a situation that is a lot more complex than it appeared. Seeing Dr. Cohen is not for everyone, especially if you're in a hurry and don't want to wait. I know that it might be a couple of hours of waiting before I see him, so I read a book or bring a laptop computer. I focus on making the waiting time relaxing for myself and appreciate Dr. Cohen's medical expertise and the amount of time he'll spend with me in the examination room. It is well worth it and I'm grateful that he's my doctor. read more

Dr. Cohen has been my mother's geriatric physician for a couple of years now. He will not continue to be her physician. Over the last two years, he has NEVER been on time for her appointment. I feel that if his specialty is geriatric medicine, then he should be more considerate of leaving people in their 80's sitting in a waiting room for hours. The wait isn't the main reason I'm moving my mom elsewhere. NO ONE, I mean NO ONE in the office, including Dr. Cohen, returns calls or emails. At one point my mom had a UTI. I called several times and was never contacted to get her antibiotics! I had to take her to the ER in order to get the medicine she needed. There are plenty of good doctors out there that care. Double check everything they do. They made an appointment with me. I had to wait 3 long months for the appointment. I have issues that must be maintained by a docotor. I show up at the appropriate time. The clerical staff could not find my appointment or any information about me. The clerk decided they could not see me same day. A clerk makes these decisions, not the Doctor? When I got upset at the incompetience they chastised me for being upset. They screw up and I get chastised??? As all this is going on with me other people walked into the same area to complain they had been waiting over an hour. Each time they were told to go back sit down and she would help them in a minute. Several phone calls came in, each caller was told to hold and they would help them in a minute. All these people had to wait a significant time before they were adressed not the time expressed. If you are willing to have appoinments that don't get recorded, willing to wait hours for the slightest attention because they over book and deal with clerical staff that are uncaring and snotty enjoy this office. read more

Yes, everyone usually has to wait, no matter what nationality, and just because you arrive first, doesn't mean you see the doctor in that order. We take my Dad to see him and Dr. Cohen is very caring and concerned about his health and how he is being cared for. He does spend a lot of time with you, which is hard to find now a days, and is why you have to wait. Dr Harvey Cohen is a decent doctor who spend more time with his patient compared to an average doctor, and probably you get fairly decent care. Unfortunately, the waiting time to see him not worth waiting. Today is probably the last day visiting his office again. I was scheduled for 9:00 AM follow up appointment scheduled 3 month ago and I wasn't called until 11:38 AM, that is 2 hours and 38 minutes of waiting just to go and seat in exam room. When I ask the nurse for ETA to see him, she told me probably another 45 minutes. I just politely asked the nurse to tell him to refill my prescription and review my lab result and walked away from his office. His staff is way below average in assisting patient and inefficient. I was very disappointed with Dr. Cohen and his office. I took my mother there for about 4 visits before finally deciding enough was enough. The wait times always exceeded 2/hrs from appointment time. The girls at the front desk were horrible to have to talk to. And worst of all, he misdiagnosed my mother and then refused to give her the needed medication she was previously using while waiting to establish a new doctor.
