Okay I have to give Starkville 2 thumbs up for actually a couple of decent restaurants. I ate here on the evening of my arrival and I so enjoyed it that I came back 3 days later. On the second visit I ordered the Broccoli Bites, Lightly Season Sea Bass,Grits and Grilled vegetables on a skewer. The sea bass was cook perfectly and seasoned just right. But the star of this evenings meal were the Broccoli Bites these were delicious. I must be honest I really didn't know what all of the ingredients were and ate two of them before finding out that they contained bacon. Bacon which I gave up eating over a decade ago along with all other pork products. With that said man those were good, I gave the rest to a co-worker who agreed. Our family of seven ate there last night and very much enjoyed our meal. The food was fantastic. We had steak, salmon and shrimp and grits, and everyone loved their meal. The sweet tea was freshly made and their dessert Brown Butter Cake with peaches was amazing. It was for a birthday dinner and they provided free dessert. Our server, Jacelyn (hope I spelled it right), was the best server we've ever had anywhere. She was very attentive to our needs and took good care of us. I used to go here about four times a week, usually for the filet mignon. The last time I had the filet it was chewy, fatty and really awful. The place is very loud and we were "asked" to keep it down. This, along with the unsmiling woman who always seats us, has crossed this off my list. Harvey's used to be top notch. I happened to stop at this gem after deciding that I'd had enough driving for one day, especially after it turned dark and it was raining. I was seated fairly quickly even though it was Friday night and the place was packed. I started with a cocktail called "The Cats Meow" - Honeysuckle Vodka, Rosemary simple syrup, prosecco. It was pretty tasty. Next I snacked on broccoli bites which were an amazing concoction of cheese, bacon, jalapeño all hand breaded, fried golden and served with honey mustard dip. I had to use self control to stop myself from eating all 7 meat bally sized bites! My main course was Honey Pepper Salmon, asparagus and jalapeños cheddar grits. Very tasty and perfectly done. My server Krystal was the perfect combination of friendly, efficient and she was able to suggest some of her favorites when I asked her for some recommendations. I was very happy, and full with some of my favorite tastes packaged up for later consumption. We Waited a very long time for our salads and soups, tables that were seated after us were served before us. They brought our entrées then once we told them we hadn't got our soups and salads they brought them to us so then our entree's just wait there. I ordered the salmon and when I cut Into the center it was still raw. The server said "atleast it's fish you won't get sick". Everyone else in my party ordered medium rare steaks and when they cut in they were well done. We had to send everything back. The manager was clearly aggravated, the kitchen must have been having a rough night. She offered to buy our table desert which was nice but I would've rather not paid $90 for raw salmon and charred steak. read more

My family and I ate lunch there on Thanksgiving day. As this was also the day of the Egg Bowl, it was very busy, but we were seated right away with no wait. Went to the restaurant for Brunch on Saturday (Brunch is until 3 p.m., we arrived just before 2 p.m.). We were given a dinner menu, so we asked to see a Brunch menu. We were told that they had run out of the brunch items, so they decided to go directly to the dinner menu. Now, several of the Brunch items are dinner items in a smaller portion. Even if that weren't/ isn't true, they also have Brunch on Sunday, so running out of Brunch items on Saturday, during Brunch hours, seems like poor planning. It seems like the correct thing to do, would be to allow the customer to have whatever they would like to order, at a discounted price. As of right now, the customer not only doesn't get the Brunch they would like (or choice of another Brunch item), they have to order from the Dinner menu and pay full menu price. If this isn't something that happens often, then the restaurant should be willing to take the hit, not stick it to the customer. read more

Even though it was graduation night the hosts were very welcoming and always had smiles on their faces and helped us get a table fairly quickly even though the long wait. Harvey's is a chain restaurant in Mississippi that I have never been impressed with. I have been there three times since moving to Starkville, and each time was disappointed. Its food is sub par with everything always including cheese in a real unhealthy fashion. Its menu options are equivalent to a glorified Applebee's, with higher prices. Their service has also been a iffy hit or miss, as most of the college students can be either on their game or just looking for tips. The atmosphere is very dim and it seems they are going for an intimate scene with old style booths and fixtures. But unforanutely it comes off cheap. Their bar is nothing to rave about either. The last time I was there they still had CRTs in their bars, which says a lot about how they think about their liquor sales. I would instead go to the Veranda right around the corner, Restaurant Tyler, or even Old Venice instead of here.
