The staff is so attentive and helpful. We were given samples to try things we weren't familiar with and suggestions of things to take home to try. Their pistachios are awesome as was everything else. Incredibly friendly and courteous staff. I needed some Turkish coffee and was sent here by the folks at Shatla's - which is just down the road. Immediately upon entry I was made to feel welcome and at home. In minutes the gentlemen was blending and grinding beans for my Turkish coffee order and making small talk with me while I surveyed the shop's unique offerings. The owner came out and made small talk with my Mother in the interim. The staff clearly wish to know their community -- they do this the old fashioned way by shaking hands and looking you in the eye... and smiling. How refreshing! The store itself is charming and smells INCREDIBLE. All sorts or household items -- for the kitchen to the bath -- are on display. I also needed a Turkish Coffee Pot (cezve/ibrik) and the gentlemen hooked me up with a simple but very nice one from Syria (inexpensive as well). They also directed me to their website for a video on how to expertly craft the perfect cup of Turkish coffee. My first batch was a huge success because of this video. We visited here as part of a culinary tour hosted by the Arab American National Museum, and its a place we plan to go back to soon! The proprietors, grandsons of the original founder, took time to demonstrate the art of making Turkish coffee with all of us (a group of about 8) and gave a generous sample of their freshly spiced nuts mixes. The nut mixes were head-and-shoulders above what you'd find in grocery stores (or even other specialty stores) around town. The guys here seemed genuinely excited about sharing their knowledge about coffee, spices and nuts with us and to really love what they are doing! read more

Sunday my husband and I visited Dearborn for the first time, we are from DeWitt, Michigan and love Middle Eastern food. The first stop was Hashems and I am so glad it was!! This THE place for nuts, spices or any culinary ingredients. Detroit/Dearborn is my husband's hometown, so Hashem's is always our last stop before we leave. We visit there and stock up on spices and nuts on EVERY visit to Detroit. The only spices I use in my kitchen are from Hashem's. Some of my favorites are their Cumin, Bay leaves (picked by hand), Sumac, Kamouneh, All Spice, 7 Spices, Cinnamon...I can keep going and going. I can't say enough good things about the owners, they are so knowledgeable about their products, and they're very hospitable and welcoming. It's also worth saying that Hashem's carries even the most difficult to find ingredients. On our last visit, my husband asked (on a whim) whether they carried "Jameed" and to our shock...they did! I can't explain enough how difficult it is to find real Jameed in the U.S. and lo and behold they had it! I've also shopped on their website, and it's very user friendly. Ships quickly and is packaged very well. If you're in the D, it's definitely worth while to stop there. read more

Overpriced for stuff you can get anywhere in Dearborn. I didn't really see anything different or unique that's worth the extra amount. There were clearly tourists at the store and they were yelled at in a rude way by one of the staff members, I'm not sure owner or just staff, but it was unnecessary and I felt embarrassed for the people being yelled at. He told them not to touch and that it was bad for business when both were clearly just looking at the items. I ended up paying $10 for nuts I could have gotten elsewhere for half the price. I usually go into Hashem's for their great coffee. This time, I went in for some of their handcrafted soaps. I was looking for olive oil soap. The customer service was fantastic. I chose a soap that is 97 percent olive oil. I am very pleased with the soap and will be back to try other varieties. read more

this may be a great place to visit, buy you don't want to mail order anything. Nuts are overseasoned to disguise their ancient taste, even greek olives which should last taste rancid from the oil in which they're packed. In the end I've thrown everything out. Small store but you can tell everything is so fresh and the guy that was there that day was SUPER nice. He let me try some of the almonds and also gave a recommendation for the turkish coffee. I got turkish pistachios, salted pistachios, and all three kinds of the BBQ, smoked, and salted almonds. Also got some turkish coffee as well.
