We order the following: - BEC Sandwish - The Ono - Hashbrown - UBE Matcha Both sandwiches are fine but not amazing. Fried chicken patty was hot but over cooked and dry. Hashbrown was unfortunately Luke warm and under cooked. The UBE Matcha was ok. A bit watery without strong Matcha flavor and the UBE "syrup" coated the inside of the cup with some UBE flavor. The BEC sandwich is tasty and savory, if you've ever had Eggslut in LA or Vegas, you know the vibe, though I'd say it's a notch below on taste. The classic avocado toast was a highlight: the spread was delicious and the bread was toasted perfectly. The tater tots are nice and crispy too. I tried both the regular and the parmesan garlic, but if I had to do it again I'd stick with regular, the bottom tots on the parmesan garlic get super greasy and soggy. Came here for brunch on a Saturday morning. They're open early at 7:00am! We arrived around 10:00am, and the parking lot was pretty crowded already. Hatched itself wasn't too crowded though. They have some smaller tables right outside of the restaurant under the awning, as well as some picnic style tables (no shade though!). We ordered the Green Dream Sandwich that comes with avocado, scrambled eggs with chives, cheddar cheese, caramelized onions, baby arugula, and garlic aioli on a baked bun. The bun was soft, and I enjoyed the creaminess of the avocado. They have tater tots that you can get as a side, and they were nice and crispy! We also got the Miso Caesar Salad. It has romaine hearts, kale, red cabbage, shave parmesan, tomatoes, red onions, and croutons with a miso Caesar dressing. The salad could have used some more dressing. It was dressed very lightly. I couldn't really taste the miso flavor either. Croutons were large and pretty hard. I'd skip the salad next time and just go for one of their sandwiches. We ordered the Holy Shiitake and the Breakfast Burger as well as Garlic Parm Tater Tots. The Holy Shiitake was nice and saucy with really delicate eggs and a lot of flavor. The Breakfast Burger had everything you would want in a breakfast burger and everything was cooked well. One caveat of this place, is that everything is served with arugula, which is a huge plus to me, but may not be everyone's cup of tea. The Garlic Parm Tater Tots were delicious and they actually layer in the toppings, so it's all throughout, but I think they could've fried a little longer for a little bit more crisp. This place isn't bad but I wouldn't come for a long while. I came with my team lady last Friday for brunch and we had a good time. I thought their jalapeño smash burger was decent but a bit dry. It wasn't cheesy or gooey like most smash burgers. My burger tasted like a Philly cheesesteak with the taste of green pepper and dried meat my garlic tater tots were fantastic and for the price of $5, you can't beat the portion and games. My friend ordered the Ono chicken sandwich was also good and had a nice tempura-like outer shell. The garlic aioli was good and paired nicely with the chicken. I could do without the arugula but either way, this option was great. Prices aren't bad; it's like $12-$13 a burger. I'll come back again for sure but not for a while. read more

We decided to try Hatched as we are in the area for take out or dining often and it was a new option to try. Seems they just opened and maybe need to get out of the soft opening mode. This spot is in the back part of Town and Country, they have a couple outdoor tables and it's next to a group of several outdoor tables which are available for the surrounding food spots. We got the green dream and holy shiitake, it's nice that they have multiple vegetarian options, and both were very tasty. A little small for the price, but that's pretty standard for Palo Alto. We also got the garlic parmesan tots and those were really good, crispy and nicely flavored, and a good size portion. They have a variety of matcha lattes as well. They offer more than 1/2 a dozen different matcha lattes as well as espresso lattes and teas. The interior is small but cute and has funny egg decor on the walls. There is no indoor dining as they are pretty much meant to take out but there are tables and chairs outside to dine at. I've been here a few times now and I'm most certainly a fan. The B.F.F. sandwich is really good, the creamy scrambled eggs pair perfect with the cheddar, caramelized onions, chives, arugula and garlic aioli. The sandwich is full of flavor and the bun holds up very well with everything that's on the sandwich. If I had to critique it I would say there should be less arugula, there was way too much on the sandwich and it could use a little more of that yummy garlic aioli. I also tried the Jalapeno Smash Burger and unfortunately I was not impressed. The burger is topped with cheddar cheese, caramelized onions, smoked bacon, jalapenos and sriracha aioli but I think my burger was missing half of the ingredients. The burger was very bland, the patties weren't seasoned and I didn't really taste anything. Also the meat seemed to be low quality because it had a lot of grit or fat that I had to spit out which made it impossible for to finish the burger. I do like the lattes! I have gotten the Honey Lavender Latte a couple of times and it's really good, if you like lavender this is the drink for you. I will definitely be back for their breakfast sandwiches and lattes. The menu carries the creative fusion energy of The Pig and the Lady. And the cold matcha drinks give off serious Phin Smith vibes. This is a *good* restaurant. But they're flirting with great, and I want them to get there. The menu is equal parts broad and narrow. Broad in concept for the small space they occupy -- sandwiches, toasts, salads, matcha, coffee. Narrow in execution -- does every sandwich need arugula? Does every avocado toast need everything bagel seasoning? The ingredients blur together after a few visits. A little more differentiation on the sandwiches (put one on the toast bread), more Phin Smith creativity on the drinks (blueberry, banana), and this place could be a local treasure. Literally overflowing with flavorful and juicy fried chicken. The batter is light but remains crispy even in a sandwich. The inside is nicely decorated but there's only outside seating which is a shame because this place is cute. I had a deja vu moment when I took my first bite of my egg sandwich. After some investigation, I discovered the owners are the same as Kurated Kitchen which I tried in Sunnyvale last year. They copied the menu but didn't make any improvements to the food. I still don't like arugala paired with my eggs. Personally, I prefer an egg sandwich with more flavor, sauce, maybe a runny egg. Lots of places around here have great egg sandos I'd prefer over this spot. Additionally, the matcha was very watery and the color was disappointing. This place is very expensive and the food is below average. Also, they have very bad customer service. Went there yesterday for the second time to give it another try, but it was even more disappointing than the first time. First, they close anytime they feel like without even posting a sign about closing early or even why they decided to close early which happened both times we went there. Second, despite the fact that I entered my phone number to be notified when the food would be ready, they never called or texted me. I decided to go inside to check on why it was taking too long, I found the bag with the food in it sitting on the counter with my name on it. I asked them why they didn't tell me the food was ready, they said oh sometime mistakes happen. I go back outside to find a table as they have no tables inside, then I found that my food was cold and there were no utensils even I had a salad along with sandwiches. Went back inside to ask them, they said that they don't put utensils. So, they expect the customer to know that they should get utensils themselves. So, not only was the food cold and no flavor, but also the Caesar salad dressing had absolutely no flavor. Their sandwiches are also greasy and soggy. Will never go there again. read more
