My friend and I were visiting NYC and were recommended Hatsu by my roommate. I really enjoyed the service and the quality of the fish was very good. After the initial omakase service is done, you are able to order as many of pieces of certain nigiri. Usually when I go to omakase, I'm never full but I think Hatsu was reasonable in terms of quantity and the quality you're paying for. On top of that, there's "unlimited" sake included which is a fun add!

After touching down in NYC we took a taxi directly to our dinner reservations at Hatsu! We were afraid that we'd run late due to delays, but the hostess had reassured us that it'll be fine and that they'll reserve our pieces to the side for us) Each piece was crafted with love and laughter. :) After we finished our course we were allowed to order unlimited pieces of fatty tuna, the wagyu, eel, and salmon! Beware though, they charge $5 per piece of uneaten sushi. I kept ordering 1-2 pieces at a time, only because i was already getting full! Oh! They also offered us unlimited sake! A time was HAD!

This is one of a handful of AYCE Omakase spots, along with SourAji, which started the whole trend and is easily my least favorite based on sushi and rice quality, my personal preference, Sushi Hayashi, and Toka, which I've heard is good but I haven't been to. The service was very friendly here, and it's slightly loud, which is typical for these spots given how much alcohol everyone drinks. By price point, this spot is obviously more comparable to Hayashi. In my opinion, Hayashi has slightly better appetizers, and I find the 13 pre-AYCE sushi courses are a bit better aside from a few notable exceptions. Regarding the AYCE portion, it depends on your preference. Hayashi serves scallops instead of shrimp, and their AYCE fish doesn't have the toppings like on the main menu. This spot also serves some excellent wagyu as an option, the salmon is comparable, and the fatty tuna is marginally worse than Hayashi. In terms of drinks, they have a few more here, including some fruit sakes, though I've never been the biggest fan of them, and there was one dry sake here that I think was better than anything at Hayashi. Before the 13 sushi courses, they first brought out the appetizers. This consisted of a standard miso soup and a couple of very buttery pieces of king salmon, with a light sauce I think was homemade ponzu, but I'm not positive. For the actual courses, I took notes for once because of the sheer number of them, but some might be wrong. I also didn't note any of the toppings in my notes, but I'm pretty positive about most of them. 1- Tsukiji/Seabass 2- Sawara/Spanish Mackerel topped with fried onion 3- Tai/Snapper with chili oil 4- Sake/Salmon with yuzu kosho 5- Red Shrimp with black caviar 6- Hamachi/Japanese Amberjack 7- Uni 8- Masunosuke/King Salmon, topped with foie gras and torched before being topped with truffle 9- Akami/Red Tuna with tomato jam 10- Otoro/Fatty tuna with caviar dusted with gold 11- Wagyu 12- Unagi with sesame seeds 13- Temaki with grounded toro, shiso, and ikura Of the list above, some ideas were genius, such as the akami with tomato jam and the snapper with chili oil, as the oil was lightly spiced enough to highlight the natural fish flavor. The shrimp was pretty good, the wagyu was tasty, and everything else ranged from good to great. My least favorite were probably the uni, but it was still alright. For the AYCE option, the salmon was topped with truffle paste, the otoro with yellow tobiko, the shrimp with the same caviar as on the regular menu, and the wagyu was simply grilled. Of the four, my preference was the otoro, followed by salmon, wagyu, and shrimp, but all were good. They also gave us a piece of Mochi Ice Cream to end, which was tasty as always. While I slightly prefer Hayashi, I would still strongly recommend both. Will go back when I'm in the mood to gorge on sushi.

THE MOST AMAZING AYCE OMAKASE!! Firstly our server Joanna was so sweet and made sure our glasses were always full! The sushi chef was also super kind! There was a 13 course omakase, with unlimited miso soup, a variety of different sakes and beers and then 2 rounds of AYCE (including salmon, yellowtail, wagyu and fatty tuna). Literally the most amazing experience! The server made sure we were full and all the fish were super fresh! Highly recommend for your next omakase experience!

I have tried a ton of omakase spots lately and this one might actually be my favorite one!! The price point is beautiful for the quality and quantity you get. I've had other AYCE spots but this one is insanely good pieces for every AYCE option. The salmon was insanely buttery, the otoro was perfectly torched, the yellowtail was so well balanced (I usually do not like yellow tail), and the waygu was perfectly salted and torched. Every piece in the 13 course was just as good as the next!! Usually salmon is not my favorite but the salmon here is insane ... the service here was also top notch! The chef was so quick to serve the food and so sweet! The female server was also insanely quick to pass drinks around and made sure no one's cups or ginger was empty!! Super lovely people all around. The actually restaurant is a little small but it's cozy and I prefer to have an intimate dinner experience honestly. Highly highly recommend. For the AYCE portion it is a little different from other AYCE places I've tried. I love how they do two rounds: first round you get to pick however many pieces you want of salmon, otoro, yellow tail, and last wagyu (in that order), second round you get to pick however many pieces of each one you've had previously all in one go. I personally did small amounts first because I wasn't sure if I would enjoy the AYCE pieces and then once I knew what I liked I got everything in one go at the end. I left super full and satisfied!

Ambiance - modern, high top table for omakase, and they also offer tables for diners not doing omakase; note: don't arrive too early unless you want to wait outside in the cold Service - staff was super nice, refilled our water & sake often, omakase experience felt a little rushed (pieces came out super quickly) Food - for $95 (13 courses + unlimited sake/mochi + AYCE select pieces) it was worth the experience

We came here after hearing about the place via social media and all the hype surrounding it. So we booked a reservation for an early Saturday night dinner to give it a try. Our Omakase experience did not disappoint and lived up to the hype. All the sushi that we were offered for the Omakase was delicious and all the sushi that you could appropriximately eat was fresh and delicious. The experience itself felt almost like a small spectacle as you witnessed the sushi being made in front of you in a small, intimate environment the sat about 20 people or so in the space. And plus there was a lububu giveaway going on. The mochi for dessert was a nice way to cap off the meal. The service was very attentive and top notch. The timing of each dish and section of the Omakase was very precise and on point. Kudos to their team for managing such a production in that manner.

If it wasn't AYCE and drink, I would rate this 4 stars. The pieces were fresh but on the smaller end. The way AYCE works is you get individual rounds of the each fish (salmon, fatty tuna, yellowtail and wagyu) and then another round where you can order everything at once. They recommend that you order more in the first round as you have more time to eat since you can stay longer than 1.5 hours. My favorite for the normal course was the scallop and my favorite for the AYCE eat portion was the fatty tuna. The service was really nice. They were quick with the sake refills. The bar seated 11 people and they have two 4-top tables in the side. They also had a labubu raffle which adds to the fun. For birthdays, they provide a cheesecake slice. Overall, I would come back!

I thought the omakase quality of the fish was better than the AYCE by a noticeable amount and that it was better than similar spots like Toka chef Kitchen. However, the AYCE fish quality at Toka was a lot better, so it's an odd comparison. I'm not sure I'd come here just for the AYCE, the quality was better for the AYCE portion at Toka. The best piece Hatsu offered was the sablefish. It's a great value sushi spot, but still didn't quite live up to the hype. It was nice that they offered unlimited sake, tea or soda as part of the meal and that their service was great about refills and how smoothly they served everyone.

    Jake Z.

Amazing value AYCE omakase place where you just can't go wrong. The toro is not as good as other places but the salmon is their specialty - and as a salmon connoisseur, I absolutely loved it. Ambiance was super homely and staff was incredibly nice, always making sure you have enough beer or sake on hand. If you win one of those overpriced Labubus that they raffle off, your dinner is basically free!

It's up there for the best Omakase and all you can eat sushi + sake + mochi dessert Omakase was excellent - tuna + foie gras + truffle like come on. Fatty tuna and other pieces were delicious. AYCE portion. You get two chances to order. First round you get to select how many pieces you want per round. Second round you place all your order at once. The sushi pieces are a bit smaller, but everything was delicious. My favorite was the tuna and wagyu. Salmon was good. My friends loved the shrimp but not my favorite. Overall would strongly recommend. Quality and service were fantastic.

13-course omakase and then two rounds of AYCE (from three different types of nigiri) AND unlimited drinks. Definitely worth it if you're a big eater or in a relationship with one. The 13-course omakase itself was great and they didn't skimp on the quality. The rice to fish ratio was good. For the AYCE portion, the nigiri sizes are smaller, but they don't pile on the rice which I appreciate. I also like that there are two rounds of the AYCE while other places only have one. The mochi at the end was also good. The sake selection was also impressive: 4-5+ sake and 3 flavored sakes. They also had two different beers and tea. The staff were super friendly and attentive, always making sure we don't have an empty glass. Luckily, there was only a few of us for our seating (first seating), but the seating after looked full.

    Tiffany L.

Hatsu's $95 experience starts with 13 course omakase, then all-you-can-drink sake + 4 rounds all-you-can-eat salmon, fatty tuna, shrimp, wagyu nigiri, then unlimited mochi. The place is small and you sit around the counter which I'm estimating fits around 10 or fewer people. I liked the 13-course omakase, which included sea bream, scallop, uni, and salmon with foie gras. Then at the end, they let you order as many extra pieces as you want, but only from four options: salmon, fatty tuna, shrimp, and A5 wagyu. I thought we'd get to pick from the same variety we had in the 13 courses, but it was just those four. The flavor on those were a little different from the first round, but not bad. Overall, service was solid, food was good - it just wasn't the type of "all you can eat" that I had imagined. Plus, you also get a free raffle ticket for their Labubu drawing at the end of the meal.

Now, having said that although the food was decent, there were a couple of questionable choices in the overall presentation and plating and the sauces that accompany the black cod bento box I ordered, which did not actually come in a box. Everything is brought out piecemeal so you don't get an actual meal before you, but a lot of little plates brought out at different times, kinda like the Japanese equivalent of Tapas. We have been to this location twice, hoping the first time was a fluke, and trying to give them a chance only for the second time to be worse. The waitstaff is entirely disengaged from the customers. They rush you through the order process and don't explain any of the menu offerings, such as what is the difference between the different platter options. When they do come over, you are greeted with the sweetness and warmth of an unemotionally flat "What do you want?" After you get your food, no one comes over to refill water and cups are initially filled halfway with too much ice. No one comes over to remove plates afterward, and they definitely show no interest in finding out if you are enjoying your meal in the least. The booth we were sat at had not been cleaned after the last party's use so there was sauce all over, and it got on the back of my pants, which I later discovered while walking home...the joy. After eating comes the best part, they come over with these tablets outlining your check on the screen. Meanwhile, the tablets are strapped to their bodies the entire time. They don't allow you to scrutinize the charges in peace, no, they stand there impatiently for the duration either swerving from side to side of tapping their foot signaling discomfort that you're taking way too long. The funny part is the straps have clips to remove the tablets so it's not like it's impossible to leave the tablet and come back shortly. The whole process feels very rushed and pressurized for you to tip with one of the predetermined button selections, which start at 25%. Ummm, service sucked so no, we're definitely NOT starting there. I guess now we're both disappointed. Eventually, you get no paper receipt for your records even if you ask for it to be printed. And the whole time, the waitstaff is with you judging you on your tipping and not even being graceful enough to restrain their reaction. So no, not going back, and definitely would not recommend as a place to have a good time. Now, if you're looking for an uncomfortable experience served by someone that completely ignores you during your entire time there and expects an exorbitant tip to boot, then yes, this is the place for you!

I ordered the Box of Dreams, which arrives as 9 small donburi bowls in a wooden grid tray. The staff was very welcoming and super attentive. Upon sitting, we were immediately greeted with a warm towel to clean our hands.
