I came here for dinner with a group of 6 people and we had a great time! The interior of Chubby Nori is all bar seating and around a open kitchen. Service was pretty quick but not very reliable as I didn't receive one of my rolls initially and it was later given to the wrong person by the chef (but was then corrected). The host was still super friendly and helpful. I got their set of 4 handrolls while my friends tried some of their other handrolls or got their shabu. The quality was pretty good and portions were alright. When I compared their handrolls and shabu though, I could very easily say that their shabu was done a lot better. In the city, I think there are already so many reliable and great options for handrolls. However, the shabu shabu that Chubby Nori does was so good. It definitely felt more on par with their branding and the quality of ingredients were amazing. Nonetheless, it was a great time no matter what you got. read more

I was pretty excited to try this place as Ive had Niku X and the experience was pretty good. We got 4 handrolls which were just alright, the seaweed was not crisp at all, it kept getting stuck in my teeth but I understand since they don't specialize in handrolls like kazunori. We also got shabu-shabu and our chef forgot our vegetables was still cooking in there. We reminded our server who then took it out but it was already yellow and overcooked by that time. Its worth trying and a nice place with good ambiance but I wouldnt bet on the quality of food. read more

Made a reservation for Friday at 5pm and it was pretty empty. Bar seating only. Service was great and atmosphere was higher end than I thought it would be. Upon arriving, we noticed that the menu is different from their website. Apparently they changed it 2 days ago which was disappointing because we wanted to try the steak and seafood combo. We ended up getting the A5 combo which was $88 and the portions were very small. Flavors were good but nothing extraordinary and unfortunately didn't have that melt in your mouth experience when it came to the meat. It was pretty chewy. Highly discourage people from coming to this restaurant. The service was horrible. When we walked in we were told that a table would be available in 30-40min and told us to wait. When 30-40min were up, we asked them about our seat and they said they were all full and they had just communicated poorly... horrible service, they clearly knew from the beginning that their last seating was 8:30pm and that there would be no spot for us, then why get us to wait? Never coming back to this place. It's in the same place as Niku X with the same people which also has horrible service! Only come if you want your time wasted waiting while you're hungry with false promises! I rarely ever leave a review but this place is just so bad! read more

Wagyu sushi is honestly not something I had ever considered (unless the wagyu is on a piece of uni / toro lol), but this spot offers just plain raw meat on rice which I thought to be a bit odd until I thought about it more. The quality of meat paired with the amount they serve and the toppings are amazing here! They've completely changed my mind on what a handroll should be. Even their non-meat pieces which are seafood focused are also delicious! A few pieces go a long way. I came for mother's day and they even gave my mom a rose - talk about great service. Only gripe was that they were pretty slow when we wanted to order anything or get the check despite only 2 other parties in the entire restaurant and multiple waiters. read more

One of the best hand roll spots I've had! Love how you can see all the chefs make the rolls in front of you at the sushi counter. You can definitely tell they use premium ingredients. Definitely a great spot for date night and I'd recommend + return. Handrolls themselves are rather big: less rice, more filling, which is good. Appetizers are fresh. For drinks there are sake options, wines, cocktails (low-abs as well). Had the opportunity to try this spot out. This restaurant is brand new and opened about a week ago. It's an elevated hand roll spot so expect high end pricing. I ended up getting the seafood combo with the tuna, salmon and lobster hand rolls. My favorite was the tuna for the flavor it had. My least favorite was the lobster. All in all, the food is great. It didn't meet a 5 star for me thought because this place packs on fish in their hand rolls. Normally that would be a good thing but for this, it caused the hand rolls to break apart and the fish to fall out a lot. I would suggest they use less fish possibly and lower the price to match the reduction for a better bite. read more

The food was overall delicious. Wagyu was cooked to perfection. The hamachi was fresh. Sushi rice was perfectly done. The fries were great. My only complaint was the truffle edamame.. I would not recommend. Very plain and just tasted like regular smegular salted edamame... also took foreverrrr to come out. Like it came out half way through our meal. Not when a STARTER is supposed to come out. The service was lacking. We sat for maybe 15 minutes before anyone came and asked for our order. One of our dishes was completely forgot about (and the waiter acted as if it was still coming out).. I would have preferred he admit the mistake and apologize. Not try to play it off... also, it was difficult to get his attention and order more food. He wasn't one to check in and ask if things were okay, and it was hard to flag him over to our seats.. Eventually we closed out, gave up and ate elsewhere... I think they need more people taking orders/waitstaff. I also witnessed quite a bit of confusion between him & the cooks throughout the night. Bar staff was great. Attentive, knowledgeable, and friendly. I wish they were the ones taking food orders in the back. Much better than whoever was in the food area... I would give 4/5. Chubby Nori is hands down one of my favorite sushi spots in NYC. The hand rolls are super fresh and flavorful, and the portions are solid. You actually get your money's worth here. One thing you have to try is the wagyu tenderloin. It's insanely good. Perfectly cooked, buttery, and just melts in your mouth. Honestly wasn't expecting it to be that good at a sushi hand roll spot, but it blew me away. The vibe is relaxed, service is quick and friendly, and the space is clean and modern. The wagyu is so tender and melted in your mouth! I highly recommend the A5 ribeye, wagyu beef tongue, and A5 tenderloin which has a lot of truffle on it!
