enoki ten ($15) - i thought this would just be a regular fried mushroom dish but it was actually kinda mind blowing - it's got fried perilla leaves and tofu as well, which were nicely seasoned, making it so addicting to nibble; the tofu especially was so memorable... it was a bit chewy, semi mochi like - it also came with a delicious sauce on the side; perfect pairing for the fried food - not too greasy, very unique... MUST ORDER pongteh pork ($25) - the highlight was definitely the pork; the veggie and eggs were good but more like side characters - the pork was so chewy with the meat intact; not overcooked and it wasn't too fatty; good selection and preparation of the meat - noodle was on the softer side laksa shrimp ($26) - the noodles and broth were the highlight! The coconut curry broth always slaps, but i especially like this one because it's not too heavy and salty to a point i have to chug water - noodle was surprisingly super chewy and it sticks to the sauce really well - they dont skimp out on the ingredients! - eggplant was so worth the mention! I was so astonished by how juicy it was not because it was soaked in the soup but it was cooked in a way so that its moisture remained perfectly intact; ALSO even though it was in the soup, it wasn't soggy at all but the perfect texture... one of my top eggplants for sure rating: 4.6/5 - while i wouldnt say every dish was perfect except for the enoki ten they were already way above average... very unassuming but every dish had some sort of element that blew me away - the service was extremely kind and welcoming, i feel the genuine smiles from our server - only downside is that the space is very tiny; no place to hang anything and no storage bins to put our bags... it was a struggle - tiny but cute interior; feels like those hole in the wall spots ‍ - so underrated and ill definitely be coming back IG: @nom.noms.only

The shrimp laksa is really good! I definitely recommend getting that. It was creamy, a little spicy, and not too salty. The jumbo shrimp was very yummy, and I liked the eggplant and tofu that it came with. The noodles tasted so fresh and not too soft or hard. I would definitely love to come back and try their other food!

Just had some really delicious Shrimp Laksa that I highly recommend. You know the soup base is legit and good when you actually use both hands to drink it all till the bowl was empty. The shrimps were nicely grilled and tasty. The short ribs were excellent too but they could have gave 4 pieces over 3. It's literally like 5 something per tiny rib which is way overpriced but again very tasty. The pork belly was okay but I prefer the laksa. Service was fast and this place gets busy quick. The restaurant is tiny so be prepared to squish. Overall, I'd recommend coming here.

Food: Pongteh pork - I loved the the knife-cut noodles. Perfect thickness and bouncy texture. The five-spice braised sauce was so good and made the dish cohesive. Laksa - The laksa is a large portion. There were a ton of noodles in that one and the shrimp is cooked well. Didn't think the noodles themselves were too special. They were same type as the kind you get in instant ramen. Enoki ten - had a great dipping sauce and all the ingredients were crispy and went well together. Service: very nice and helpful with recommendations with both dishes and drinks. Atmosphere: It's a small and cute interior. Ideal for a date night/party of 2.

Tasty food, prompt service, and worth dropping by for a casual catch up with a friend or two. Like many a storefront in the city, the layout is railroad style meaning skinny and deep. After passing the host counter and register at the front left, there's just enough room for a walkway sandwiched between regular height two and four tops along the right wall, and a communal 6-8 seater high top with a handful of bar height tables for two on the left wall. White walls and blue trim help enlarge the room. Around 8pm a steady stream of diners arrived at the restaurant, with short waits of about 5-10 minutes. Staff were prompt to seat as spots opened up, and I sat at one of the smaller tables. A menu was passed quickly and I flagged down a staff member to order. The single bowl of noodles that I got--the Nounou Talay $26-was mostly a delicious success. Southeast Asian flavors shone in the savory, acidic broth that was addicting, a tangy flavor that paired perfectly with the bouncy purple potato noodles, seafood (grilled squid, fish pieces, and two shrimp), and enoki mushrooms. Agree with separate review that the fish tasted pretty bland compared to the other items. Dining solo that evening, it would've been ideal to bring a couple more people to share more dishes together. The vibe the staff gave was cordial though a tad high-strung. Part of this was probably due to the tighter space, there was a lot of speed walking back and forth bringing out and cleaning up--they were prompt for sure! Intentional or not, it gave me a feeling of being rushed. Also a couple little awkward moments: 1) to be in the process of sitting down at my seat and having a staff member standing a foot next to me and talking around me to another team member as I'm trying to take off my coat, when they could've stepped back a bit, 2) staff was a bit hot and cold on attentiveness, felt more perfunctory than warm. That being said the food was good and I may come back to try a few other items.

    Kurage Salad ($14)

I tried 5 dishes here with two friends and we were able to get seated easily. Honestly everything was pretty good. I really enjoyed their bata crab, which had a good amount of crab and great squid ink pasta. The meat in their ribs kor rae dish was incredibly soft and the top parts of the bone were even edible because it was just that soft. My favorite out of everything was their kurage salad, which contained jellyfish, shirataki, and hijiki. The perilla in that dish really shined through. This place has a variety of different fusions and innovative flavors but it really came together well.

This spot recently opened in the Astor Place area and it's fantastic. How more people do not know about this spot is beyond me, but then I kinda want to keep it for myself so I don't have to wait for a table. Decisions... The first dish I want to highlight is the NouNou Talay ($26). It's soo damn good that I'm coming back to order this again. They use Potato Noodles and comes with shrimp, fish, and squid topped with cilantro. They then pour the soup, which is a "Sukhothai" spicy chili-lime broth. It really isn't that spicy, but I sure did finish the broth. Jumping back to the appetizers: Burrata Caprese Salad ($16) - This was recommended by our waitress and I'd have to say it's underrated. I would have not ordered it if it wasn't pointed out simply because it's a salad. Instead of your typical leaves, they use baby tomatoes, grapes, dill and stracciatella (inside of the burrata cheese). Enoki Ten ($15) - Call it their fried appetizer sampler. Consists of enoki, tofu, perilla, all battered up and deep fried in a coconut-sesame batter. Ribs Kor Rae ($14) - They slow cook the pork ribs so that its fall off the bone good. It's glazed in a "Malay-inspired" curry, which was delicious. Just make sure to let it cool a bit before attempting to eat one. It's hot. For the other entree we also got the Pongteh Pork ($21). Unlike the NouNou Talay, this one is a dry noodle dish. The braised five-spice pork belly is as good as it can get, along with the knife-cut noodle, bok choy, and soy-marinated egg. For dessert, they only have the Piah ($14), which is worth getting. I love trying dishes that are unique and I have to say this one you can't get anywhere else in NYC. It's a vanilla creme brullee with mung bean in the middle (the ingredient for mooncake) topped off with a black tea ice cream. Freaking delicious.

We came at 12PM as it opened on a Saturday, it was pretty empty but definitely got crowded VERY quick. I definitely recommend making a reservation ahead of time to ensure you aren't waiting. The staff are nice and the service is very quick. I love the interior design of the restaurant, very simple, yet cute and not too much. The food was absolutely delicious but I will say it was a little bit heavy for me towards the end. But I would still recommend coming here and trying their dishes out. The pork belly was tender and the ratio of fat and meat were perfect. The kale noodles tasted wonderful with the broth and the fried perilla leaves and enoki mushrooms were so good. The crab noodles were very good too. I definitely would want to come back here to try the other dishes.

Friend and I tried the kurage salad, nounou talay, and chacha steak noodles. The kurage salad was great, loved all the textures and sesame dressing though the portion was a bit small. The chacha steak was cooked well, noodles were al dente. Loved the flavor of the the nounou talay, broth was clear but so flavorful and the seafood was cooked well. We had the creme brulee for dessert, it was creamy and not too sweet. The tea flavored ice cream was delicious. Service was attentive and our waitress was nice!

    RIBS KOR RAE
    Jessica T.

New spot alert ! Seating is tight but the restaurant never got too crowded to the point of being uncomfortable. Some really unique flavor combinations that I was excited for. -I don't know if we got unlucky with the ribs kor rae, but there was barely any meat on it for $16 and 3 pcs only. They should've topped the ribs with the sauce because it was so hard to scrape up without a spoon and with the shape of the bowl. Didn't find it to be that great. -The Nounou talay broth was light and fragrant with a tastefully zesty kick. I really enjoyed the seafood in it with the exception of the fish, which was so starkly bland compared to the squid and shrimp. For a while, it was really hard to separate the noodles as well since the broth wasn't piping hot. -Bata crab tasted familiar making it not very noteworthy -Mung bean creme brulee was noteworthy and unique! Overall, a lot of the food came out lukewarm, which I didn't love. I would give it another chance.

This is for 2 visits one takeout and one sit in. When they first opened I was skeptical because of the prices but ver much worth it.I went during the week for the lunch special and the pork bowl with hand pulled noodles was absolutely delicious and came with a spring roll and I tried one of the cocktails which was lovely. The service was amazing my water was constantly being refilled and I was checked on. The second visit I ordered online for pick up and still extremely friendly offered me a seat while I waited. The take out food was carefully wrapped and packed to not spill and the quality was still outstanding. The crab noodles have a generous amount of crab and is a great size the flavors are so good I want to try everything. The vegan noodles were also a great dish loved the thick noodles and sauce. I definitely say give this place a try. Its not a huge restaurant but its cozy they have a projector playing music and the decorations are nice.

Nounou is a small spot but the food stands out. Enoki Ten was super crispy and probably my favorite appetizer. Nounou Talay was creative -- seafood with red noodles and a warm sour broth poured over. Really good balance of flavors. The steak with spicy udon was flavorful and had a nice kick without being greasy. Dessert (Piah') was unexpectedly great. Caramelized top, custard, mung bean, and tea ice cream all in one bite -- very well done. Menu isn't huge, but everything feels intentional. Good vibe for a casual date or small dinner.

The spot is special (literally, you head below street level to get in), which somehow makes it feel even more like a NYC secret you're in on. Small, cozy, dimly lit in the best way, and staffed by people who are genuinely warm. We started with the tempura sweet potato fries and dumplings, both of which disappeared off the table fast. I went with the shio truffle ramen homemade chicken broth, homemade chicken chashu, half ajitama, bean sprouts, menma, shiso, truffle paste, and nori and it was easily one of the best bowls I've had in the city. The truffle paste takes it from "great ramen" to "why haven't I been here sooner," and the homemade chashu is so tender it practically melts before you even chew. Five bowls at the table, five very happy campers. Bonus: it's a quick stroll from Central Park, so pair a bowl here with an afternoon in the park for a genuinely great NYC day. The bowl comes loaded: tender shredded chicken, seared chashu, marinated soft-boiled eggs, fresh scallions, bamboo shoots, and a sheet of nori that ties everything together. Every topping tastes intentional, not just filler. The texture balance is what really stands out fatty chashu that melts, shredded chicken with real flavor, and noodles that hold up beautifully in the broth.
