The service is horrible. We were seated 30 minutes after our reservation time. I seen other people who came 40 minutes after us get there food before we did. It also took almost a hour and a half later to get our food. Once our food was finally brought, everything was wrong. We were told no one could sit by the trees because of the weather. I want to start it off by saying the food was a 5/10 and the staff did not care that their was a rat in their restaurant. The ambience is cool. There are lots of ants and insects that'll fall into your drink so keep that in mind for when you sit somewhere. We ordered a lot of food since we don't go to these places often and towards the end my friend saw a rat run across the restaurant into their outdoor kitchen. I didn't believe her at first then the there was another rat that ran into the same area which our party and another table saw. I told the staff that a rat went into the restaurant and he said "the spoils of an outdoor restaurant". Honestly the prices of the food were expected but that response from the staff was unacceptable. After that the crew seemed like they wanted my party out as soon as possible so I didn't spread any word to the other people in the restaurant and three people came to me with the check. No apologies just rushing me out which I didn't mind because knowing for $50 a plate of salty plain dishes and vermin's in their kitchen I do not recommend going here. There are many other places on the island in that area with more hospitality and better cleaner food. Just to recap food was a 5/10 actually I'll make it a 2/10 since rats were around it. This was my 3rd time to this restaurant. I've been here once in 2010, once in 2020 and recently a few days ago. This review is for our most recent experience here celebrating our Anniversary with a day date. They offer valet parking ($10 w/ validation for up to 8 hours) or there is street and metered parking around the hotel. The ambiance of this restaurant is amazing. It's outdoors & breezy, right on the beach, and features the beautiful hau tree in the middle of the main dining area. Our server had such a positive energy and was very attentive. The food presentation for each dish was beautiful and vibrant. The food portions were just right. I ordered the crab cake benedict which was perfectly seasoned. The salad and potato sides were a nice complement to the benedict. The pomodoro sauce in the Shakshuka dish was very flavorful. The ube cinnamon roll was warm and satisfying - If you like ube and you like cinnamon rolls - This is a must try! This place is a gem and would definitely recommend for brunch! I unfortunately had a really bad experience at this restaurant. First off, The food was not good, there were only a few options. Lamb chops that came in a very overwhelming sauce, salmon that had no taste and pasta that was hard as a rock. We also got their $70 wagyu steak which was alright. I've been to many high end restaurants and this was not even close to comparison. You're literally only paying for the tree with lights and a table by the beach. What I am the most upset about is the service. Our server was nice but BEWARE when you're reserving this place. They charge you if you change plans last minute and can't make your reservation. Also, I was upset when they told us we couldn't switch our party of 6 to a party of 8. I asked multiple times over the phone and in person and they said they could not add two more people to our reservation. When we got to our table we saw a same sized table right next to us literally with 8 people. Our server even said it fits up to 8 people so why did the host multiple times tell us they could not accommodate us adding 2 more people. Which is strange because you would think they'd want more money. The people on the table infront of us were white, and it definitely felt racial. I'm not one to complain, but they really dropped ball and I hope this review changes the way they treat customers who are paying to keep them open. read more

Almost didn't go because of the negative reviews. Turned out to be the best dinner during our recent two week stay in Waikiki! Great food, service (thanks Luke), and atmosphere. I had the Wagyu. It was cooked and seasoned perfectly. Luke recommended the focaccia and the fried egg plant....we were not disappointed. Hau Tree has a beautiful view inside the Kaimana hotel. We found free street parking because it was still early, (8am reservations). We both got the lemon ricotta pancakes for breakfast.. they are way bigger than photos show! I thought they'd be small pancakes but they're big. And delicious. I added a side of scrambled eggs. I also got the kunia coffee which contained alcohol. It was strong, good flavor. You can't beat the decor and view here. I would recommend reservations and with us being the first breakfast time we got a great table. They blocked off the beach because a monk seal just had a baby and they're protecting them while they are settled at this portion of the beach for some time. read more

It had been years since I last went to Hau Tree (I moved away from Oahu a while ago). Friends/ohana on the island recommended that we all meet up there during a long overdue return to the island (first time back since pre-pandemic times). What started out as a potential informal gathering of a handful of friends happily turned into about a dozen or more of us and a wonderful mini-reunion! The hostesses were so gracious and understanding, and rolled with the changes. I really wasn't sure how many people would show, and I didn't want to hold up any extra table space that other guests could use. Luckily it ended up working out better to have our growing group in the bar area. It was perfect! Lots of space, still nice and open to the beach, and still had views of the sunset. A huge mahalo and shout out to Logan! She took care of our entire group the 2-3 hours we were there. Somehow kept track of everyone's drink orders and pupus throughout the night without us ever seeing her write anything down (and we were all ordering at different times throughout the evening, some standing, some sitting, arriving at staggered times). Thank you Logan! You were amazing! Hau Tree is such a great spot for locals and visitors alike. Every single person, guys and gals, in our group enjoyed their drinks, food, the atmosphere, the great service, and the beautiful open-air setting. The picture frames inside the hotel are so colorful and beautiful! I enjoy going to breakfast/brunch and always make sure to make a reservation ahead of time so I could secure a spot basically on the beach, The service is great and all the employees are friendly and efficient. The alcoholic beverages they offer are so delicious. It can be a bit pricy but worth it because they sure aren't skimping on the alcohol! I love their Paloma's, Jalapeño Margarita, Espresso Martini, etc. As for food, everything is so good. I highly recommend the loco moco, the gravy is so delicious. I also always get the eggs benedict and never forget to order the Lemon Ricotta Pancakes as well. I tried the Ube Cinnamon Roll they had and it was also SO YUMMY! I have gone here for my wedding anniversary and also my birthday. They give you a small piece of cake for special occasions and make you feel so special which i appreciate so much. While there is shade with trees and umbrellas, the sun does shift and it can get warm. Pricing is definitely Waikiki vacation pricing but it's worth playing tourist for a day and enjoying the beauty our island life has to offer. We enjoyed a bottle of bubbles ($60) to share. Got a veggie appetizer dish to start. My entree was the crab cake benedict ($35) that came with mini potatoes. Was a good size. Real crab meat that didn't have too much filler. The eggs benedict is A+. We have come back for it many times and it's always excellent. The cheeseburger is amazing. The strip loin steak for dinner is phenomenal as well as the Kauai shrimp campanelle! Andrew is an amazing server and Juan is very knowledgeable of the menu and did a great job too (as support staff). We look forward to coming back. Oh and one last thing--we asked about getting some automatic small table fans to keep the flies away and they did not have them, but they did bring out some handheld paper fans, that did the trick, but required our manual effort. What a disappointment! I have been to the Hau Tree many times. I'm not sure why this is the case. I had made reservations three months prior. This is a normal course of what I usually do. We arrived at 9 AM which was 30 minutes prior to our reservation. We checked in with the concierge, and was told that our table would be ready in 15 minutes. We sat in the lounge area after verifying our phone number so he could call us or text us to come back to the check-in area. But also was told that he would come and get us to be seated. at 9:25 AM I decided to check again since he stated that it would be ready within 15 minutes. Do you know the table was ready 10 minutes ago. We sat down at our table, which is located along the railing by the beach and look through the menus. After five minutes, we were served water and was told that the server will be following him shortly. Another 10 minutes went by still no server and I looked at my wife, And asked her why is it that we have not seen the server since we've been seated and this place is half empty. It was not a lot of individual seated in the downstairs dining area. So after short discussion, we got up and departed and left. I will never return to this place again after all the years that I've come here. So for those of you that frequently, my advice is to stay away, and go to the Creme Pot. The Creme Pot is a five star breakfast locale that is located on Niu Street and is worth the visit. read more

Haven't been to this long established eatery in years so it was lovely to return. One of my dear friends is returning to Canada shortly and wanted to try this place out. We had been hearing bad things about this place from others who claimed their prices had gone up substantially and that the quality of food had gone down. Well, our visit yesterday proves them all wrong. We had the most amazing server (I am embarrassed to say I forget his name but will never forget his face, or his attentiveness) and we all were able to decide on what to eat in quick order. When we received our food, the two ladies who ordered bacon in their order had to return it because it wasn't crisp (and they had specifically requested it be crisp). A lovely lady came out later with two plates of crispy bacon with an apology, and enough to give the rest of us a piece. I ordered the Fish Sandwich, which was the crispiest, flavorful fish sandwich I have ever eaten. As a testament to the amazingly prepared food, not a single person had anything to take home, and that's rare for this group. In closing, you can't beat the location of the Hau Tree. Being right on Kaimana Beach, it is the next best thing to being on the sand or the ocean. Love this place. read more

First, I'd like to say that I loved every aspect of our dinner here at Hau Tree. When we first walked in, the lobby decor was very bright and inviting. The hostess was able to seat us at the bar too for our reservation. From our seats, we were able to see down into the restaurant and out to the beach as well. The sunset was beautiful. On to the food, we tried a lot of different food. We started with the focaccia and the raw oysters. They were both great. The oysters were small but sweet/mild brine. Next, we shared the crispy octopus, and it ended up a favorite of ours. My boyfriend ended up with the Akaushi Wagyu NY strip loin. It was pretty good, nice and buttery. Each bite was so soft and rich. I got the lamp chops, and I loved them. If I were to come back, I'd get that over the NY strip loin. The flavor was so amazing and the char was perfect. Lastly, we got the crab tagliatelle. It was a creamy, citrusy sauce with large pieces of crab. It was fresh and filling. My boyfriend finished all of it. To conclude the meal, our sweet server brought us a complimentary cake in celebration of our anniversary. She was the sweetest and made the whole experience even better. If you're considering a visit here for dinner, do it! Next time I'm going to try and make a reservation for the restaurant with the beach view. Phenomenal dining experience tonight. My partner and I love to eat, so we tried several items. Standouts were the focaccia and octopus. We also had the lamb chops, local fish, and potatoes. Everything was phenomenal. Drinks were delicious and strong as well. BIG SHOUTOUT to our server, Ella, who went above and beyond. We ordered the poke cornets, rainbow cavier, wagyu striploin, and their restaurant week menu which included lomi hamachi, king prawn tagitelle, and a brownie dessert. We made reservations through Tock the same day and got a 12:45 pm reservation. The lanai is cozy right on the beach, shaded by trees.
