Excellent food. Our server Michael was very kind and attentive. My boyfriend and I went here to celebrate my birthday dinner and enjoyed everything we ate here from the oysters, to our drinks (piña colada & lava flow) and our dinner which was a pasta and miso ceasar salad with seared ahi. The ahi was perfect. Birthday dessert was a guava chiffon cake, small but enjoyable. Wish we tried the coconut cake! This restaurant made our time in Hawaii so enjoyable especially with the beachfront view. If the sun is not setting, cover up or wear sunscreen/bring your sunglasses or a hat!

Came here for the first time for my anniversary. Our server Malia was awesome and the food was good! We went on a Friday night after the sunset and we got to see the Hilton fireworks. We ordered the miso Caesar salad (dressing on the side), strip loin medium rare it was a little salty and it came with a creamy sauce, and monchong with a side of their ginger scallion rice. Overall everything was great the only thing I didn't care for all the flys and bugs but we sat outside and it was attracted to the light. The monchong was the highlight of the night, the fish was perfect. I usually don't care for Caesar salad but this was one was a must try- it was so good I wanted more! It was nice that they split into two plates since we were sharing. Malia was great, she was accommodating my food dislikes such as garlic. She told me what things had garlic in it and she made sure the sauces were on the side. On top of that, she gave us a free dessert. Anyone in the area should definitely check out Hau Tree but I recommend making reservations if you want to have a dine in experience, it was packed and we had to wait for alittle even though we came in early.

Wow! Thank you Hau Tree. We were seated outside right in front of the baby monk seal. The view was beautiful and it was a beachy vibe. It was hot, but the hostess brought us fans and was very accommodating if we needed to move. The fish was delicious, the produce tasted so fresh (salad and tomatoes) so it was worth the $$ to me just because nothing was "tired."The pasta was also cooked perfectly al dente. I recommend reservations, my mom and I had a beautiful Mother's Day / birthday / graduation celebration, they even brought out a cake. I didn't feel rushed at all, and I'll be going back here again. Valet was only $10.

Booked a birthday dinner at Hau Tree for the sunset and beachside views! You can book 30 days in advance online which I recommend if you're looking for the specific sunset time to time it right. Very limited parking and we had to valet it which came out to only $10 with restaurant validation. Service was friendly but felt slow. Food was decent but I just wasn't impressed. I've never complained about large portions but why were there so many dang potatoes as the side it was so wasteful and didn't taste that great either. The sunset beach views were great but I wouldn't go out of my way to come back here. It didn't hit the spot for us. Drink: - liliko'i margarita (has tajin like rim) was limey Food: - chip & rainbow caviar - really good! - lomi hamachi - kale & spinach salad add seared ahi - very small ahi - 12 oz washugyu striploin with side: roasted potatoes (do not get this side and it was way too many see pic) side: roasted eggplant

From start to finish, this was an exception experience. Ocean/beachfront seating on their lanai, with woven lanterns hanging through out. Tiki torches really helped set the vibe. You absolutely need reservations for a table on the Lanai for dinner. Prime times are for the sunset. We were seated immediately and our order for refreshments wasn't long behind. What we ordered: ** a bottle of Chianti wine ** the focaccia bread served with a balsamic whipped butter. ** Mido Caesar salad, , my husband and I split the salad. ** fennel sausage orecchiette ** kahuku golden tomato strozzapreti ** Complementary Guava cake for our Anniversary The focaccia bread was warm and soft. The balsamic whipped butter was delightful. The kahuku golden tomato strozzapreti pasta dish reminded me of the pasta dishes I ate while visiting in Italy. It is a light and flavorful dish, the sweet tomatoes were bursting with flavor. My husband ordered the fennel sausage and orecchiette pasta dish, this was also delicious. Our server was very friendly and prompt, adding her favorite items from the menu. They served us a light and fluffy complementary Guava cake for our anniversary. We loved the whole experience.

Okay, this place is stunning. Plus it has such a great view along the beach! The food was pretty good - the focaccia and rainbow dip was to die for. Pasta felt plain unfortunately. Service was so good. We were so obvious we were tourist and just came by to celebrate a nice occasion and our waitress was so accommodating, even covering our pasta plates while we took a break to take some photos on the beach!

Beautiful place to have breakfast/brunch with your date, family, or friends! Very very relaxed ambiance with amazing views and great food! It is on the pricier side, but no other breakfast/brunch can beat this place with food and views! Service is spectacular as well, we wanted near ocean table with great view and host did not hesitate to accommodate, our server Kody was very patient and knowledgeable about the menu and restaurant. Everything really felt relaxed and food tastes great! Service 5/5 Food 5/5 Street parking or Validated ($10?) for valet Make Sure to call in to request for specific tables early

I had such a great experience at Hau Tree--it's one of those places that just feels special from the moment you walk in. Sitting right by the beach under the trees with the ocean so close was honestly hard to beat. It's peaceful, beautiful, and exactly the kind of setting I was hoping for. The food was really good--fresh, flavorful, and not too heavy. You can tell they put care into everything. I especially appreciated how relaxed everything felt while still being really well done.

Came here with my husband for brunch. He tried the Hau tree eggs Benedict and I tried the Avocado eggs Benedict. The dishes came with a potatoes and salad. Very fresh! Both were good! We also tried the Ube Cinnamon roll. Yum! Not too sweet. The cinnamon roll was huge! Service was good. It started raining so our server quickly came over to move us to another table. They have an open concept where there's indoor and outdoor seating and a great beach view.

Tuesday 830pm I was looking to reserve a table for three guests two days before I wanted to have dinner, but the only options were 8:30pm and later. When we arrived there were plenty of tables available. I was a little concerned about the wind and the cold (60s) because we were seated outdoors but it was perfect, probably because we were enclosed by trees and walls. I'm glad we sat outside because in the dark (no sunset to watch over Kaimana beach) the setting was still beautiful. We ordered the crispy octopus, kale and spinach salad, eggplant, burrata and tomatoes, mango whoopsie, fudge, and banoffee tiramisu. The kale salad had quite a bit of gorgonzola on it, so I got to eat most of it. I liked the banoffee tiramisu and eggplant. I LOVED the burrata and tomatoes. Who knew olive tamponade went with tomatoes? I could have made a meal with just the eggplant and the burrata tomatoes. I have always remembered valeting my car, but this time we parked for free at the meters that were free after 6pm, just across the street. I remember I loved the tuna tartare and burrata toast last time. Always a lovely place to dine at!

I made an Opentable Sunday brunch reservation and requested a table against the wall next to the beach (which we received), and indicated we were there for our anniversary. Great venue and good food. We parked across the street for 3 hours of parking for $1.44 on a Sunday (it is free until 10am on Sun). We started with a cinnamon roll ($16/ea) and two different Mai Tias ($19/ea). With the cinnamon roll being the standout item. Both Mai Tias were good but I would stick with the Waikiki Mai Tai over the 1944 Mai Tai. Next we ordered a fish sandwich ($27) and a burger ($28). The fish sandwich was unique-enough and tasty. The burger was nothing special. Both came with McDonald skinny fries. Seeing some of the brunch items around me, I'd do a benedict and some other breakfast item next time and skip the sandwiches. The burger is on HH for $20 which better aligns with its presentation and fries. We got a complementary slice of cake and two glasses of champagne for our anniversary celebration. The waiter was excellent. Overall I would return, just make some different decisions to elevate the experience.

celebrated a birthday lunch here during the week. Haven't been here since forever. First thing I noticed was that they cut back the hau and kept the section of the tree that is more toward the beach. But i like it-it's more airy and open. We parked in the Kaimana hotel lot-valet. It's $10 for 3 hours with validation but no need. Just tell the valet you're going to the Hau Tree. It was a lovely day and loved looking over at the beach. Too bad Rocky the seal wasn't there yet. Not pupping season just yet I guess. The service was fantastic-our server Jennifer was friendly and gracious and we were checked on often. the food-- I had the Shakshuka ($24) and asked for it no added salt. It was great! The spices were delicious. It came in a small cast iron dish with 4 pieces of perfectly toasted bread. So far this was the best shakshuka I've had. The egg was nice and runny and made the dish even creamier. Hubby had the calamansi pancakes ($23). Our server told us it was her favorite and I can see why. The pancakes were piled high and topped with citrus cream with calamansi syrup on the side. The pancakes were very fluffy and light and the citrus flavor really complimented the sweetness. If you like pancakes, this is it! And to end it all, Jennifer brought out a little guava cake sprinkled with coconut on a plate with Happy Birthday in chocolate on the house! What a great surprise! It was a peaceful and special meal! Definitely would come back with out of town family who are coming soon!

Hau Tree Reviews in Other Languages

Ask the Community - Hau Tree

    Are there gluten-free options?

Sort of, there isn't "gluten-free" options on the menu but there's fish, and salads. I would also recommend letting your server know as well.

    Are there any vegan options?

What time do they start serving dinner pls?

The capacity of the private room?

    Is there a kama'aina discount?

    Is there valet parking?

Yes at the hotel. There is also ample parking in the street as it's at the end of town.

    Are walk-ins welcome?

For walk-in, the best bet that seems to always have some seating is the gorgeous/comfortable bar. For the lower patio, reservations encouraged.

    Is it baby/kid friendly atmosphere?

    Yes

Is it possible to make modifications to the menu for gluten allergy? Mahalo

    I don't think that's possible.

Hi just wondering if there's still happy hour available, if so where can I find the menu for that, and what are the hours?

Hi Jacy, I posted pics of the dinner and drinks menu back in April. There is a QR code on the menu. Maybe that will give info on possible happy hour specials?

How do you make reservations? I used to be able to online but it's not showing up on Resy anymore

Aloha!! We currently are using the Tock reservation system!

    Is there a kids menu?

As of April/ early May, they didn't.

How's the parking situation? Did anyone know the rates at Kapiolani Patk

They have valet parking, and it may have been $10.

Do you have a birthday dessert plate?

    Yes!!!

    Is this restaurant wheelchair accessible?

    Yes

    Is there a keiki menu?

    Unfortunately, I didn't notice a keiki menu.

Are small dogs allowed at the lanai?

Yes, they are now allowing dogs well behaved

I noticed a few tables had brought their own wine (good wines, likely for a special occasion) - what is the corkage fee?

No idea. I was told you can't do this.

Is the old Hau Tree Menu gone? This is my husband's go-to birthday or anniversary place for years and always ordered the same thing. Sad to not see that menu anymore.

Yes it's gone, but better. Chef Chris Kajioka (Miro) along with Chef Alan (Le Bistro) are serving up amazing dishes. He'll be pleasantly surprised! Enjoy

What is PDR seating when making dinner reservations?

    Private Dining Room.

Chat gpt recommended this place and I have to say the AI was right! The place is really fun. You can park downstairs and they valet Park you and they will stamp you for free parking. The atmosphere is a fun vibe. They had live music. It's a indoor outdoor place. One thing to note, they don't serve their lunch menu after 4:00 so we went there expecting burgers and they don't serve them. So we kind of stayed reluctantly. I ended up ordering the guava ribs and my wife got them too. Those had to be the best ribs I think I have ever had! They literally fall off the bone as you're trying to pick up the meat. One of the reasons we wanted to go here was we wanted the options of seafood but one of our adults doesn't like seafood and they said that they had all kinds of stuff, which they do. Our server Maka, was incredible. He brings us out a free appetizer and said that was from the chef. I don't know if it was the chef or him but I was impressed and it was good. It was some kind of little fried dumpling. It was awesome! One of the people in our party had thought he was not going to order something and I gave him one of my ribs and after he tasted it, suddenly he wanted some too. I grabbed Maka and asked him If he could get those ribs fast because the rest of us were already halfway through our meals. He got right on it and had that order in. The ribs came out just in time and everybody was happy. It ended up being one of the nicest meals that we had the whole week. We were here and it was a great way to end our vacation here in Hawaii.

We were dying to go back this trip and sad to say, we left disappointed. The whole vibe changed from a fun Hawaiian restaurant to a yuppie upscale restaurant... however they still have the live music, which was a nice. The atmosphere was nice too. The menu items were minimal and surprising to us, none looked appealing. We did get a couple of appetizers, which were good... and a few samplers from the chef which were the best thing we had. But overall, is was a waste of money - and a lot of it!- I will share a positive though, the crème brûlée served in the bottom of a pineapple was delicious! It had a tangy, sweetness of pineapple that was delicious, as well as beautiful! Overall, not the same Tiki's. We did eat at food trucks and little hole in the wall places that had food that was better. Skip the bougie restaurants and go straight to the food trucks and little restaurants. Tip: ask the locals were the good food is. They will tell you it is for sure not at restaurants like these.... We asked.

The coconut shrimp is outta this world. Coated with breading with flakes of coconut, the crispy, crunchy exterior is so satisfying to bite into and unveils the juicy shrimp underneath. I loved the sauces it came with too -- it paired so well with the shrimp. The angry shrimp plate comes with two scoops of furikake rice and a small side salad. Whatever is in the salad dressing is seriously addictive and the angry shrimp is wonderful when paired with the rice. The sauce made me want two more scoops of white rice. Other customers also expressed how rudely treated they were at this location. We spent nearly $100 to be treated with hostility. Completely unacceptable.

Hubby's beer was delivered to our table before our server even walked away! We both ordered the teriyaki sirloin steak with mashed potatoes. It. Was. Freaking. Delicious. I was full, but couldn't stop eating because it was so good. Dukes is really a place where you know you are in Hawaii--the decor, the food, the music, the friendly service. If you come to Honolulu and don't come to Duke's, you'll be missing out.
