I'm so glad that the restaurant is still able to operate during COVID. The set up was nice. However the seatings were arranged to be in a small space. The view wasn't too elegant. Now let's come to the food. Penne shrimp pasta: it was good no complains about the pasta. Margarita pizza: it looks like it was a frozen pizza put in the oven and served. Wasn't a big fan of it. Guac nd chips: the Guac wasn't fresh. I could tell it was not freshly made even though it said on the menu it was freshly made. Heavenly chicken: it was good came with side of truffle fries and salad. which was also good. No complains about this it was good. Tiramisu: it was good. Overall I would gave it 3 stars. Word of wisdom: the closer you are to time square, the less amount of flavor there is in your food. I've never been more excited and then subsequently disappointed in a restaurant. Haven has a huge reputation all over socials for being the place to go for drinks, food, and good times. Well I'm here to say that it absolutely sucks. The food is bland most of it felt like it came out of a pre-packed frozen box. Pizza is absolutely awful and doughy, guac was definitely store bought and the staff... well they could use an attitude adjustment. The view of NY, something this restaurant also boasts is quite like the rest of it. Not living up to the hype. My husband and I were looking - two days out - for reservations somewhere decorated, for a staycation in the City. Believe it or not, close to Christmas, getting a reservation was NOT easy - I know, shocking. The Yelp rating of Haven would have kept me away, but these were desperate times, and a girl needed to eat surrounded by holiday directions, since I was feeling a little Grinch-y. We made a 6:30 reservation for Haven, and braved Times Square to head to the Sanctuary Hotel to begin our evening. The Sanctuary Hotel is exactly that - a complete breath of fresh air in a very touristy area. We were greeted by a helpful doorman and ushered to an area to wait (by a fireplace) for the elevator to take us up to Haven Rooftop. I'd recommend getting to Haven a bit early, because regardless of a reservation, you still have to wait on line to use the elevator to head on up (also, the elevator is a TIGHT fit). We made our way up to the rooftop, which was decorated top to bottom. Reindeer antler chandeliers, strings of lights, and branches/trees were everywhere (though it wasn't cheesy - super tasteful, but put you right in the holiday spirit). We were brought to our table immediately and were greeted by our server Angel, who was just as attentive starting out as he would be when the crowd size increased. Again, the low Yelp scores made me think that service would be lacking, but Angel was incredible, as were all those who filled water glasses, brought and took food/plates away, etc. We started off with drinks - a glass of Cab Sauv for me, and one of the seasonal winter drinks for my husband, a hot toddy inspired cocktail. From there, we ordered an appetizer to split, at Angel's recommendation - the tuna tartare wontons, which were as good as he had described once they came out (plus, raw tuna plus a wonton shell is the best combination ever). For entrees, I ordered the mushroom risotto, which I am usually picky about, but Angel hadn't steered us wrong so far, so I took his high praise of this being one of their best entree choices and went for it. My husband ordered the fish tacos, that is meant to be an appetizer, as well as the white pizza flatbread (mozz, goat cheese, truffle oil). The portions were perfect and the food was delicious. The risotto was perfectly cooked and the mushrooms were amazing and the ideal amount, the fish tacos were delicious, and the flatbread pizza was the perfect size for me to steal a piece and for my husband to not be hungry. We were full, but not grossly so where we wanted to be rolled out, which is the perfect combination. We ordered another round of drinks before getting the check. Thanks to a Yelp check-in, we scored a percentage off our final bill, which was an added bonus to a great meal and excellent service. (PS. If you use the % off Yelp benefit, please don't be an asshole - tip on the amount before the discount!). I was pleasantly surprised with Haven's ambiance, amazing service, and delicious food. I finally got to visit this place as this has been on my food bucket list for a while. It's hard to get a reservation and to find something within a day. I got to have dinner here on Valentine's Day and let me tell you.... this is panties drop status! I had the kale salad, lobster risotto and cheesecake and chocolate-covered strawberries and their mojito. That lobster risotto was so flavorful, I feel like I need double the serving and think of it from time to time. I will come back for that risotto. Their drinks are really good. One of the best spots that make really good drinks with a really nice view near Times Square. The hospitality of the people, from the people who take your coat, to the hostess to your waiter was exceptional! This establishment was very accommodating. We arrived around 3pm, which was between the lunch service and the dinner service. The host said that we could make a reservation for 4pm and wait at the bar until the dinner set up was ready for customers. We literally rode upstairs with our dinner service waiter, who was just checking in: Axel. Great guy. Rather than seat us at the bar, the hostess upstairs seated us at a table, which we switched once another couple left from lunch service. Apparently they don't rush anyone out of there. Seated at the window, we took in the altitude and the sunny day and the fine decor. My date was very impressed. The service was initially given by a tall young woman, but concluded by Axel. Either way it was great. We had the tuna tartar and I had a watermelon salad. Both of which were tasty. The tartar was the most impressive. Fresh and flavorful. We capped the meal off with a tasty cheesecake. Very rich and fresh, and I'm not a cheesecake guy usually. read more

It is disappointing when you make a reservation months in advance and the hostess doesn't seem to care or pay attention to it. The hostess is the first face you see upon entering and it's kind of unfortunate when she glowers and has a scowl on her face. I had a reservation at 11 AM, when the restaurant opened. I arrive at that time. I tell the hostess I have a reservation and my name. I put in my reservation that I would like a table near the window so I can have a view of the city. I don't want to be in the middle. Well, apparently in this practically empty restaurant I could not have this for some reason. I was told that since we were a party of 2, and because they will be full soon I should sit in the corner with no view at all, practically the worse table in the entire restaurant. What proceeded was a game of the hostess showing us a procession of awful tables that we had no interest in sitting at. She rolled her eyes, she sighed. Eventually, we had to get the manager. We told him the table wanted, he approved that table and so we finally got the table we originally asked for. So off to a bad start. Our server, Eric, arrived and gave us menus. Eric made the experience better. He was friendly and did not make us feel like a bother. Our food didn't take too long to come out which was good. The food was decent. The crab Benedict was good. My mom's omelette was just okay, a bit on the dry side. The mimosas were good too. The atmosphere was great. The view was good. I would return. Unfortunately, I did not appreciate the tug of war with the hostess. But management was good and my server Eric saved the day. read more

I had a reservation scheduled for brunch and they refused to let my friend and I in because she had on a hat. The lady who checked us in was nice and didn't mention anything about the hat. It was weird the heavy set make at the front (maybe security) said something. There was nothing stated on the website so it was extremely weird. I politely let them know to cancel my reservation and the "security" sarcastically asked me if I was sure. I did not get his humor nor did I find anything funny. Visited Haven Rooftop (12/22) while attending favorite son's b-ball game at the Barclay's (St. Peters vs LIU Brooklyn). Caught an Uber instead of moving the car - a good 30 minute ride but it was well worth it. I was eager to go to this place based on the décor alone and always down with any rooftop eateries (even in the winter). The place has a bar with high tables, couches and regular tables for dining. We had a little issue at first with reservations. I called while on our way in the Uber. The person on the other end of the phone said "no reservations needed at that time." Bet! I get there and it's another story. Uggg. We get to the elevator to head up to the restaurant (located in Sanctuary Hotel) and a young man who was manning the elevator tells us that we need reservations. I tell him my conversation over the phone with the hostess. He still was hesitant and suggest that I call and let them know we're in the building and ask for Taina. Taina answers and tells me that she CAN take us but it would not be the best seating. So I ask her, is the table near the bathroom, kitchen or bad view. She says, no, so I said we'll take it. We now enter the elevator up to the top floor and we're greeted by Taina. She starts to seat us near this beautiful view with a backdrop of the beautiful décor. I'm thinking, if she calls this a bad view, I hate to see what the rest of the place looks like. NOTE: our table was on a slight decline but did not affect our food or drinks spilling or sliding. We were immediately greeted by our waitress for drinks. I read Haven had vodka shots called Shot Ski (@ $40 for 4 shots). We decided to try it and went with the Kool-Aid flavor. It's basically a ski and they line the ski up with 4 people and you take the shot together. It's a great idea and watched a group of girls do it prior and decided it wasn't a good idea (maybe in my younger years) and definitely NOT with my son. But that didn't stop of us from trying out just the shots . They were so good we went with a second round. By this time, we ordered our entrees: Tower of Tuna Tartar and Haven Slides (2). The sliders came with fries and a cole slaw. The guys don't eat cole slaw so I added it to my Tartar and it was a nice complement to my meal. Overall this place is great especially with the winter theme. The food was good. The service was excellent especially the door man and Tania in making our trip to the Big Apple memorable. This place is great for any night out or brunch. It is a great location with really nice views. The staff are friendly, and the decor is really nice. Some of the food on the menu is pretty good, like the chicken and penne pasta. They are all also reasonably priced as well, but the drinks are overpriced to the point where it's basically like any rooftop bar instead of a restaurant. Haven rooftop is located in the same building as the sanctuary hotel and sushi lab, in the heart of midtown west. White the building itself has many stories, the rooftop, located on the tenth floor is dwarfed by it's neighboring buildings or sits barely higher. As such, while it's a rooftop with pretty nice and cozy interior decor, the rooftop views look into other buildings or at the top of some exquisite NYC water towers. The rooftop is also a bit enclosed with a ceiling and glass walls, so be aware that you'll get to experience the greenhouse effect if you come on a fine summer afternoon. While the service was a tad slow, I'm not going to complain since it means that no one was trying to rush you through your meal and hurry you out the door. Our servers were extremely friendly and accommodated to our party size (which changed since the initial rsvp), and was able to split our bill with each of our credit cards. The food here was palatable, portions were really small, and the brunch menu wasn't super extensive. The cucumber based mocktail was pretty good though. All in all, while getting up to the rooftop could be a bit hectic, don't have high expectations for the food or the views, but definitely come for the drinks and the cute interior decor. read more

DO NOT COME HERE! This places gives off weird vibes. My friends & I came here for brunch on New Year's Day. Our reservation was at 12pm and we got there 10 minutes early. They had us line up in the lobby of the hotel where Haven is located, like it was an exclusive club. We were thinking "oh maybe this is just new protocol for Covid" and maybe there were already people up on the rooftop so it wouldn't be so congested. WRONG. We were finally let up after 15 minutes of waiting and the rooftop was empty. We didn't mind waiting in the lobby but we were being herded around by staff just because we wanted to have brunch. We tried to order bloody mary's because you know - it's New Year's Day. Our waitress then told us that we couldn't order that because the "bar wasn't ready" but they could give us mimosas or mixed drinks like vodka soda. I understand that it's the day after New Year's in NYC and everyone's trying to get their lives together but...THIS WAS BRUNCH!? HOW IS YOUR BAR NOT READY? The food was gross. I ordered the margherita pizza and it tasted like it was just heated up in the microwave. If you're charging $18+ for meals, the food should at least be decent. Overall, our time here was not great. Sure it's a cute rooftop for instagram photos but this is NYC - there are hundreds of other places you can go to where the service isn't weird, the food is actually seasoned, and they have a fully stocked bar. read more

We came here for my friends birthday and I really enjoyed this experience! The vibe of the rooftop was super chill, they had a DJ playing some nice music and I loved the ambiance and lighting. The bar area was also super nice and the service was amazing. The servers and bartenders were trying to make our dinner as comfortable and positive. It definitely is pricey but since it was for my friends birthday I knew this going in. I 100% the gnocchi, my friend got it and it was absolutely delicious, it like melted in my mouth. Came here with a party of 11 for a birthday! For starters, the entrance is really nice, until you reach the elevator that takes you up to the rooftop. It's really claustrophobic and an old elevator, didn't help the security guard mentioned its been breaking down a lot, and then proceeded to squish 6 of us into it! The staff was great and attentive to our large party. We had a lot of appetizers to share, the calamari was perfectly cooked, i would say you can skip the guac. I didn't get to try the pizza, but people enjoyed it! The tuna tartar was pleasant, would recommend, it was truly unique! When we ordered the mains, 10/11 of us got the filet mignon, not sure how the waiter remembered which temperature goes where, but i was surprised to see they delivered! I was the odd man out, and got the tuna for my main course, and was pleasantly surprised! My only complain was that the waiter had promised to let the birthday girl know when she reached her price point, however he had failed to do so, and we went over quite a lot. While visiting NYC we wanted to find a rooftop bar to visit near Times Square so we stumbled upon this place while looking on Yelp. We were excited to hear that they take reservations on Opentable so we made one on there. I loved the decorations at this rooftop! We got there a few minutes before our reservations and they said it would be a few more minutes. She said to head to the bar and she would grab us when our table was ready. Luckily someone was just leaving when we got there so we grabbed their seats at the bar. We ended up ordering some drinks while we waited for our table. We both ended up getting the sangria which was delicious! Made fresh with fresh fruit in it and was not too sweet at all! It actually took them about 20 mins longer then our reservation to get our table. Since we had our seats at the bar we weren't upset about waiting but if we didn't we probably would of been upset. When we finally got our table we had an amazing server! She was very sweet and told us how bad she felt that we had to wait so long for our table. She was very on top of it and we ordered our food right away. We decided to get a meat and cheese plate to share to go with our sangrias! The food came out fairly quickly and was a large amount. We loved all the cheese and meats that came out with the plate. Our favorite was the truffle cheese and the prosciutto. My friend ordered a tuna tartare from their brunch menu and to her surprise as she's picking into her food she finds a dead roach inside her tuna tartare. IT WAS DISGUSTING!!! I discovered haven rooftop near my hotel and decided to give it a try. My party of three was able to get right in to a nice table. The view was cool as it is nestled amongst some old buildings and had a fun vibe. The server was a pleasant young man with a thick accent. I was slightly disappointed that they didn't have any beers on tap but I ordered a bottled ipa which was good. One in my party ordered a glass of wine that had something floating in it. The server was happy to replace it. I ordered the seared tuna entree. When it arrived I immediately detected an odd odor from the tuna. I smelled it closer and determined it was probably ok and started eating it. After eating a couple pieces, I noticed there wasn't any pickled ginger as noted on the menu. I waited for the server to return to no avail. After a long 10 minutes of waiting I asked the hostess to send the server over. Moments later, the manager came to the table and asked what was wrong. I simply said that I was missing the pickled ginger. The manager explained that they changed the recipe to not include ginger, but did not revise the menu. I decided I didn't want to eat the tuna and sent it back. The manager was very pleasant and gladly removed the order and offered me something else. I opted to help my partner with her meal since she had eaten all she could by this time. Her penne pasta with shrimp was delicious! This wasn't necessarily a bad experience, but I likely won't go back as there are too many options in the city. read more
