Yesterday I tempted fate because on the last time I'd been out of the house to drive anywhere -- a…read moreweek ago or more -- my car's dashboard electrical system warning light had come on. I was hoping it was just a dying battery, since I have jumper cables, and that I could get this errand completed even if I had to beg a jump-start from some stranger. Alas, it was not the battery, but the alternator, which had failed -- meaning no more juice was going into the battery, and my car therefore went completely dead about 10 minutes from my destination. But I coasted to a stop -- with the engine dead, no power steering, no dashboard lights at all -- into the parking lot of Deerfield Auto Repair & Kwik Kar. Owner Joe Fallin and his capable staff promptly diagnosed my problem and gave me a fair estimate. They replaced my alternator and battery both (never keep an old battery with a new alternator!) within the estimated time, about three hours, and hosted me in the meantime in a clean and well-appointed waiting room (easy to maintain pandemic-driven social distancing). Friendly, competent, honest, diligent -- fate delivered me into good hands, and I'm happy to recommend them to anyone.

They could have made another $200 on the job, but instead chose to lose thousands of dollars in future business from a longtime customer. Their work has always been decent, but there are plenty of mechanics who do equally good work for comparable prices. Customer relationships matter, and throwing away years of future business over something this small simply isn't good business. I took it to Clutch Automotive based on recommendations I read on Nextdoor. I was able to get an appointment right away even though the shop was busy. Paul greeted me, went out with me to check out my car. While speaking to him I told him I hadn't found a mechanic yet and the places I had been were expensive. He told me in full transparency that they are not the cheapest shop but are competitive with the dealerships. Long story short it wasn't an oil issue. They replaced my alternator, belt and idler pulley for $1500. Parts were marked up a little but I paid $800 in labor, $167 of which was to remove/install the belt and idler pulley. They already had it opened up to replace the alternator and had to pull the belt off anyway so I'm not sure why there was an additional charge in labor for that. Keep in mind that they have to remove the wheel, the wheel liner, etc. because it's not an easy alternator to get to. They were very personable, professional and easy to work with. The guys seemed to care that they did a good job. My car came back to me as clean as it was when I dropped it off. The alternator they installed wasn't testing as well as they liked, so they installed a better alternator for no more money. They offered to send a car to pick me up when my wife wasn't available to drop me off. My car isn't making the noise anymore and I am very happy about that. I wanted someone who knew what they were doing, saved maybe $400 from a dealership price, and now have a 3 year/36k mile warranty on parts and labor on my alternator should I need it. A+ on professionalism and customer service. B- on price based on labor charges.

Although I did have great service and kind team members, it took longer than expected! I think I was second in line but because I was behind a car that was getting multiple services, I was waiting a while. They did have two garages in which I thought I would be asked to move to the garage that was empty, but another car pulled up and they started servicing that car instead of me. Therefore I was still stuck waiting. I am usually patient but from my work, it took me 8 mins and if I'm waiting 30 and take 8 to get back and all have to consider time to the the job, that bothered me a little. This is nothing I feel would make me not recommend this place. Things happen. I'm very understanding and the team corrected the action pretty quickly. They offered a great coupon online and stacked coupons because I'm a ride share driver. This was very kind and considerate and I appreciated the effort. Of course I will come back. So I came here based on all the great reviews and it's close proximity to my job. I had been…read morewithout AC on my truck for an entire summer and I wasn't about to do it again so I bit the bullet took my truck in. First off, I had a quote from another shop that diagnosed my AC issue and asked Ashford Memorial if they could beat the price and they said yes. Well, it ended up being almost $1200. ( the quote was just over $1000) so they didnt beat it but anyway. My AC was blowing again so I was happy. I must point out that it has never worked as good as it did before it went in but it does blow well and cools for the most part. Within the first week of getting my truck back comes all of the weird stuff. My hazards would come on randomly while driving. When I turn my right signal on, the left one would come on instead or the hazards would come on instead. Then different dash lights would come on randomly and turn off. Me being a worry wart, I would check fluids, when the lights would come on and nothing low. I got an oil change even though it wasnt time and it still kept happening. Then I noticed that my hazards button appeared to be stuck down... so I saw that the steering wheel cover was wedged against it holding it down so it couldnt move so I smaked the cover just enough to shift it to where the button was free. That ended the hazards and turn signal issues but not the icon lights in my dash. So I delt with it a few more months and then it was time for my inspection/registration. I take it to my normal place and they say their computers cannot connect. I was so upset. They said I should go to a dealership and have them try. Well after trying 4 dealerships that couldnt help me because supposedly my truck is a 2006 and their computers only worked on vehiles as old as the lot has been open. Atleast that is what I was told. Then the 5th one that had been open more than 2 decades said they were backed up 4 weeks due to all the flooded vehicles and couldnt get me in. By then my inspection would be past due. I finally got a recommendation from a friend about a shop they had gotten really good service from so I tried them. Long story short, I ended up having to replace my entire computer because Ashford Memorial had to open my dash and disconnect my computer to fix my AC and then didnt put it back correctly and it was completely fried! So 3 weeks and $3000 later I have my truck back with a new computer, AC that works at like 75%, but it passed inspection and runs great so I guess it could be worse. I do want to point out that I didnt contact Ashford Memorial to ask them about my issues once it was diagnosed by the shop I used even though they asked me if I wanted to try that before they got started working on it. I just didnt want Ashford Memorial to touch my truck again once I was told that they destroyed my trucks computer. The only reason I'm giving 2 stars instead of 1 star is because my AC does work.

I want to start off by saying I have had good experience with this place BEFORE today. The boy with…read morethe long curly hair is always helpful but this time I had a blonde girl and some other guy with tattoos and I went in for an oil change and they started freaking out being extra about my car needing fixing with some other issues , then the white girl saying "turn off your car and please never turn it back on". I told them prior to me even driving into the area that I already had a mechanic thats working on it but he recommended I get an oil change first which is why I came to this location. The male worker comes up to me and tells me the back mechanic shop is backed up but I can leave my car it'll take a couple of hours, so I proceeded to tell him that I already said I just need an oil change I already have a mechanic i'm working alongside with, and the whole time hes just smirking almost like if hes making fun of the fact that thats all I want. He tells me to pull up to the area and then proceeds to walk by my window saying "that shits crazy," insinuating its crazy that i'm just doing my oil change. So I tell him to close my hood and that I wont be going through with the oil change since they want to act like that. The professionalism and customer service needs to be fixed along with their attitudes. If you have an older car don't even dare going to this location with these kids, they'll make sure they find something wrong with it.
