This place is pumping with customers all day long so you know people are happy with their hair cuts. I made an appointment at 8 am on Saturday and there was already two people in line. Another customer was finishing up when my stylist came in. Pat was a super nice lady and she really listed to what I wanted done. I showed her two pictures and she clarified what she would do. I was very happy with my haircut and will definitely go back. It's cash only and was $28. Other places are less expensive but this was worth the extra money. Parking is easy and free. I recently moved back to Oahu after 9 years in Texas, so I needed to find a good place to get a haircut. I was stressing because if you get a bad cut, you're kinda screwed for a while. This place is closest to my house, so I read the reviews, rolled the dice, and made an appointment. I was lucky to get Ken, the owner. I showed him a couple of pics of what my hair was SUPPOSED to look like (it looked different as I waited 5 months to get it cut) and he started clipping away. He nailed it. The man has skills with the scissors, and he is really nice too. It cost me $26, which is a great price, especially for Hawaii Kai! I am a very satisfied customer, and I will go back to Ken for my next cut. Highly recommend! read more

A comfortable bedroom community shop for simple haircuts for men and light coloring or hairstyling for women. This shop has been in the Hawaii Kai Shopping Center for 36 years. Prior to their relocation here they were across the marina in the Koko Marina Center for several years. What this means is they have a lot of long time regulars, my dad included, who have been with the same stylist for most of their adult life. Relatively speaking, there are newer younger stylists, but Ken and Ann are mainstays from the first days in this present location. Both are very good with their regulars. Naturally, you might want a more modern shop for your styling needs. But If you live in the community and need a simple convenient hairstylist I would recommend this place. read more

Anna does a wonderful job, and also works very quickly. She is very sweet and easy to talk to. I have never had someone be so detail-oriented and meticulous yet work so fast. My hair grows in very weird patterns Karma which I used to cut myself so I know how I like it, I explained to Anna Once and she had it perfected. My own head would takes me an hour to cuz she did in 30 minutes and also did my beard. This is a review for Tracy! I've been having my hair cut by her for almost ten years now, I started seeing her back when she was at that salon in Koko Marina. I don't know why I didn't think of posting a review for her all these years! Tracy is so fast and skilled at cutting hair. When I first went to her upon recommendation of my dad, I was scared because I had really long hair and never cut it, and it was like my security blanket. She earned my trust upon the first visit! I've been showing her reference pictures of exactly how I want my hair and she can replicate them extremely well! I've also had my hair highlighted/dyed by her twice and she did a really good job. I will never go to any other hair stylist other than Tracy. She's so friendly and never ever gave me a bad hair cut. I'm in and out within about thirty minutes, which is really impressive considering the length of my hair and the fact that I have lots of layers to cut. She can run a bit on the pricier side compared to places like super cuts, but it's absolutely worth it since she works fast and doesn't make mistakes. read more

I've been getting my hair cut here since the 8th grade. First, I went to Kimo, who has since moved on to an upscale fashion salon. Ever since then, Ken has been my primary stylist. Let me say, Ken is the master. He is as accurate as they come. A lot of people want to try new styles, but the great thing about Ken is, he can judge based on the thickness and curliness of your hair whether a style will work for you -- and if not, what adjustments should be made. By the way, when I first went to him, he was one several stylists. Now, he is the owner. That should tell you a little about his talent. As far as the "Korean lady" comments of Joj o., this guy rated Boston North End Pizza only three stars, so regardless if he's from Boston, he has extremely high standards. I will say Ken cuts it better than the Korean lady, but like Joj o, says, it's mostly the language barrier. At least she's pretty good at coloring. read more

Be careful and know what you want and communicate it clearly, and be sure the hair cutter understands. Sunan cut my hair a few times before and the haircut was fairly good - it was cut as I instructed. My last haircut a few days ago was horrible. My bangs are ragged, horribly cut, much shorter than I wanted - it will take months for the bangs to grow out to be reshaped properly. When I shared the bangs were too short, Sunan grabbed the back of my hair and kept saying, look at all this hair. Sunan kept saying, there is a lot of hair, while holding a bunch of hair in the back of my head. My bangs are in front, but she did not acknowledged my concern. She cut the bangs without asking me my preference - without any concern about what I wanted. She just cut and cut, and it was not done well. My bangs are ragged and ugly. Jean G. read more

But aside from that, the person that cuts my hair, Sunan (Susan) is very friendly and IMO cuts the best full hawk.
