I asked for no rice and they gave me a substantial amount of Mac which was nice. But they gave me zero to little meat when I ordered a double plate and paid Extra for double meat. I can't imagine the portions if I had ordered regular. With the competition of Roxys and 808 Grinds being so close, the only benefit is that they have a drive through. That's literally the only reason I went. Nothing worse than regretting your dinner choice! I definitely should have gone to Roxys- next time I will. I'm from Hawaii so had high expectations for a place called Hawaiian Time. The food wasn't bad but it definitely wasn't representative of Hawaiian plate lunch food. Even seeing the menu we still opted to eat there and give it the benefit of the doubt. My sister and I ordered different things and they tasted exactly the same. The food took so long to come out. The three times i have been to this restaurant i have been served consistently low quality food. The meat is tough, steak was very gristly and tough. Tonight i had the chicken. It was so tough and gristly i had to spit about half of it out. I ordered the number 6 after the girl sort of explained that was the sweet and spicy one. It was neither, just kind of garlicky. Just wasn't that interesting. Four of us ordered four different things and none of us felt much excitement about going back. Not bad, just blah. Lots of rice, though, if you have a big hankering for plain rice without any sauces. Mine had pulled pork on top of it. The mac salad was all right, but only just. This place just opened and we decided to give it a try. We were not disappointed. They were out of Kalua pork so we had teriyaki beef instead and it was really good. Their macaroni salad was nice and creamy. The service was great too. They brought our food to us and then made sure everything was good and that we didn't lack for anything. Being raised I Hawaii. And living in Vegas where most islanders congregate, I think I know hawaiian food better than most. Some of the selections are ok. But sadly this place is far from "hawaiian" food. It has a drive in style but the food is just generally lacking in the traditional flavors you can find all over the islands. But other than that, I like that it has drive thru but I'm from Hawaii and these folks don't really know the culture or the menu very well. They don't have a lot of variety. Oh my god this food is so bomb. I ordered a small (dakine) size kailua pork and it came with a fat scoop of rice and decent sized Mac. I wish there was more Mac because it was crazy delicious. Next time I'll probably just order a bathtub full of Mac. The pork was perfect, without the giant chunks of cabbage that some spots use as filler. I'll be back! read more

Food not particularly good. I had the Kahlua Pork and it was not very good, even with teriyaki sauce. The restaurant is very cheaply furnished. The food is delivered to the table in "take-out" boxes. The decor is very minimalistic with cheap posters on the walls and other cheap paper decorations. The Burger King that previously occupied this location was 100 times better. The regular is huge, generous portions here. The food is really great, the Mauna Loa chicken is very tasty we got it hot and it isn't very hot will go Hawaiian hot next time. Like another reviewer, I've seen this place and been curious. I was heading over to Uwajimaya and figured I'd give it a try. For fast food, it was flavorful and fresh. I was pleasantly surprised and will come back. I got the pork and chicken combo (recommended on the short menu) but substituted some veggies for one of the scoops of rice. I'm surprised they don't have 5 stars. This is the BEST Hawaiian food place in the Portland area. I judge Hawaiian food by their rice and Mac salad. 5/5 for both. Their hui hui chicken is the best around. The chicken is lean, fresh, and flavorful. Their portions are enormous too and their prices are fantastic. We go a good 2-3 times a month and we are always happy with our food. I highly recommend Hawaiian Time!!! read more

Got the mixed plate of Kalua pork and Mauno Loa chicken. This is the worst Hawaiian food I have ever eaten in my life. The pork and chicken were both equally dry and only hinted at the island flavors that normally make my mouth water. The only saving grace of the meal was the macaroni salad. There are way better Hawaiian restaurants in the Portland metro area; go to any of those restaurants instead of Hawaiian Time. read more

Ordered the Honolulu beef. It was very good. Restaurant was clean and the gal at the counter was nice. My only complaint was the portion. I ordered the $6.45 lunch size and it was very tasty but too small. I eat lunch out every day and I typically look for great value, and in my opinion, they could up the portion size. read more

Born and raised in Hawaii I can only say, "nice try". Although it will do if you're really desperate, it's not hard to do better in your own kitchen. It's true, they are missing some very common dishes offered locally in Hawaii, such as chicken katsu, shoyu chicken, loco moco etc., but worse is that the Mac salad is a bummer. Way too much pepper and too al dente. Authentic Mac salad does not have any black pepper, or if it does, you can't see it. Also it is cooked much more soft and sticky rather than Haole style rubbery. Ok...I read a few of the posts...very mixed reviews; very unexpected! I, like others, have driven by this location off Beaverton-Hillsdale for years. I thought, and honestly still do, the place looks a bit run-down, I believe it was a converted Taco Time or something (please correct if you know). The first visit I was pleasantly surprised to find a clean and inviting atmosphere. I was a little confused by the lack of a menu board at a walk up, but I imagine after a few visits you don't need a menu. They keep it simple, chicken, beef, and pork items w/ varied marinades. You can also have them dial up the heat, something I don't see often. In my two visits I had the Mauna Loa Chicken and been pleased with the flavor. I also enjoy the macaroni salad...I'm sure it would be even better the spicier you get the food. Here I sit, my second time here in three days. The service has been exceptional. The man at the counter glanced at my card and called me by name (a nice touch used by so many establishments), but he took it another step, calling me by name when he delivered the food and when he came by to see how my meal was. Mine was not a unique experience as I witnessed the same treatment for other patrons. Perhaps he is the manager/operator, in any case it was a nice touch that I would encourage others to emulate. After all, this is what prompted my review. I'll be back for the beef on my next visit. read more

There is no loco moco, no lau lau, no katsu, no poke and they don't even put grazy on anything? The only thing Hawaiian is the kalua pork! Short, fast, tasty menus. Their teriyaki chicken, and teriyaki beef are the best. I have taken a liking to their macaroni salad even ha! Very casual, not very busy or loud. Crew is friendly and knowledgeable enough, if not all a bit on the young side. Good for a quick lunch for 10 bucks or less. My hubby and I will definately be back:-) read more
