This resort is horrible. It looks great on the website and in the lobby...but that is a distraction from what's actually going on there. The food is way overpriced, and not good!! We paid $96 for 3 burnt cheeseburgers and 5 cold conch fritters. We also paid over $8 for 2 small and watered down cokes, and $84 for a breakfast buffet that I could have gotten for free at a holiday inn! The rooms are filthy, bugs, appliances that don't work, carpet that appeared to have never been vacuumed. Then they have the nerve to charge a $42/day for crappy WiFi, cold swimming pools, beat up paddle boards, and poolside bathrooms with a toilet covered in fecal matter and others with no toilet paper!!! Many of The employees could care less and were rude. Save your money and go to one of the many other resorts. Hawks Cay is need of a deep cleaning and renovation if they have the audacity to charge their guests their ridiculous fees!!! read more

Nice property for families with kids. The staff is fairly laid back, which is nice and bad. On the one hand, the staff is friendly and kid-friendly. On the other hand, the front desk seemed to find it funny to not follow through with promises. For instance, and only just one of a few examples, we asked for two extra towels at check-in (the room comes with two towels, we had kids so one for each person) - I even tipped $20 in advance. We asked again that evening, called down to ask, and then the next morning. "Yes" was always the answer, but never sent. We finally had to take two from the pool area. That stated, people with kids love the place and you'll probably be happy if you go with kids. read more

Shower had a bar of used soap in it (not even cleaned between guest???) Paid $68 dollars for refillable drink cups and both drink machines were "broke" the entire stay. They should have refunded our money or told us before purchase their machines were out of order. Toilet paper hold hanging off the wall, with multiple patches around it from prior detachments with poor attempts to patch the wall. The restaurant for dinner was closed the entire time, only bar food available unless you left the resort. The remote control was missing the back, batteries fall out. Mattress very worn and uncomfortable. Asked to speak with a manger who was unhelpful to resolve any issues or concerns, but offered me and my husband a room with bunks if we wanted a different room. SAVE your time and SAVE your money and stay at a regular chain hotel with more caring staff, and more amenities than this resort. $1963.00 for a terrible 4 night vacation. read more

We stayed at Hawks Cay for 1 week for a conference. The service we received was AMAZING. We hung out by the Tiki Bar and Adult pool (Oasis Cay) the majority of our time. The food was great and Radar (the waiter) went above and beyond. He was extremely attentive, friendly to not only us but the rest of the people at the resort! AMAZING EXPERIENCE! We absolutely loved it! The staff was VERY friendly and always helpful! I can't remember everyone's names but Valesia (hope I got that right, sorry if I didn't) from Peru at check-in was great and so were the other girls we met by the check-in desks. Doormen/valet guys always greeting helping to open door for you. Some of the staff I remember was Dylan & Taneesha (from Jamaica) at the Beach Grill Tiki Bar. Both were very attentive, quick, and friendly. Room-service lady (feel bad I forgot her name, think it was Marjorie but not sure) was excellent, she even called our room since we had the no-wake-zone out, and asked if we needed extra towels, coffee, etc! Always smiling when we saw her. The tall Haitian guy at the lagoon's paddle boarding/kayak rental, man that guy was excellent! Super friendly and he's making sure if it's too busy that people are within their allotted 30 mins rental. I wasn't in a hurry so I had no problem waiting. The staff at the Ocean buffet, the gift shops, the baristas, the bartenders, were also very friendly, courteous, and attentive. During our entire stay I could see how hard EVERYONE of them was working, from their initial staff meetings in the morning, to seeing them hustle through the crowds to take & deliver guest's orders, to even seeing the chef walk back & forth from one end to the other with his whole chef outfit, mind you in that hot weather! I'm telling you the staff is amazing! There was so much to do and see at Hawks Cay there's no need to go out anywhere else (another key) while you are staying there. We also got to experience the Dolphin Connection and again (they're that good) staff there was amazing. One of the girls that gave us the initial meet was very upbeat, super friendly, knowledgeable, and you could tell she loves her job! Our trainer for the session was Nicole, excellent! From the start she was very upbeat showing us what we needed to do with our hands and on the platform while introducing all of the 5 beautiful male bottlenose dolphins! We sure learned a lot more from dolphins! The experience itself was amazing! Last but not least, the tram driver was excellent! We told him it was our first time at Hawks Cay and we just hopped on to take a tour and without asking he told us about all the different areas! Was very helpful and friendly! I'm sorry if I'm forgetting anyone but feel everyone at the resort should be recognized! We don't have small kids (all college kids) and this place is excellent for families with small kids! We enjoyed watching them have such a great time even kicking and screaming was enjoying to watch! They do have an adult pool (tranquility area) for those that prefer to avoid the noise. We tried it once, was too boring, at least for me. LOL! Sorry I did prefer were the action was at the main pool. Oh oh now I remember, this note is for parents and managements as well. We did go over to the pirate kiddie section to check it out, and we were eaten alive by mosquitoes. So parents, make sure to bring mosquito repellent or something. Hope staff can do something about that, because it was pretty bad for us and we were only there for about 15 mins. Hawk's Kay markets inself as the premier resort in the Keys. They charge you like a top end resort. The problem is that they don't always deliver. They charge you a premium for parking (but they won't park your boat trailer) They charge you for Wi-Fi (that doesn't work in the Fitness Center). They charge you for the fitness center ( Pretty limited weight and machine options and a broken elliptical). They promote their on-site ammeneties. But if you want to fish in the morning, you are out of luck. The staff are all amazing. The pool and child programs are excellent. However many things can be really inconsistent read more

Just got back to Chicago after an amazing 12 nights in Duck Key at Hawks Cay. We actually extended our vacation because we loved this resort, the location, the views, everything. Lobby was great, got a drink while we waited for our villa (we got in early) and sat on the front porch area. Surprised to read the other reviews with low ratings, so let me help clarify them here. Family Stay: Get a villa. We stayed in a 3-Bedroom villa which was perfect for the size of our family. It's worth the extra money, especially to have a kitchen, washer/dryer, etc. We faced the marina, Angler and Ale, and it was fun to sit on the back porch and watch the boats come in. Pirate Ship Pool: Yes, this is not a pool technically, but it was comforting to know that my kids, who are young, could play there and although we still had to watch them, the worry about them being in pools with deeper water wasn't a worry at this pool. They had the time of their life along with other kids playing there. Plenty of chairs to lounge in and get some sun while the kids play. Other pools: The main pool with two hot tubs, Tiki Bar, and pool side service is great. The salt water lagoon is right behind it and it was too cold for us, but looked like there was good water activities to do. Walked over the tranquility pool that's Adults Only/21 and over and it was peaceful there, but we had kids, so we did not go there. Another pool was the Sunset Pool on the other end of the resort, but again, we pretty much stayed on the main resort grounds. Staff: hands down some of the nicest people we have met at a resort. Everyone was accommodating, helped us with everything from getting us packaging tape to send our luggage back home, to changing the sheets for us a lot (young kids), helping us at the front desk with all requests, morning coffee was always great, pool service was excellent, no complaints here. Dolphin Experience: such a cool thing to have at a resort. My young son and I had a morning routine, see the dolphins, which you can easily view from a small area by the salt water lagoon and then get the morning coffee from the gift shop (Starbucks). We didn't get to do it this trip, but we will be back, so next time. Things to do: drive south to Key West for a day or two, lots to do, search "Cruise Ship Schedule Key West" and try to go on a day when no ships are there. It will still be busy, but it's a must do. Have a drink at Sloppy Joes, visit Ernest Hemingway's house (do the guided tour if you can), stop at Key West Pottery around the corner, cool hand made pieces, large coffee mugs, do the photo at the southern most point and finally every night at sunset, there is vendors, street artists at Mallory Square for a small fest to watch the sun set, again, a must do. Islamorada: Two things to do here 1) Visit the Islamorada Beer Co., do a tasting, get a growler of their 2 ale. They also sell it at local supermarkets and gas stations, my new favorite beer. 2) Visit the Moorings Village and Spa and the Beach Bar next to it. Amazing place to see, eat, drink, relax. And the set of the B&B for Netflix's Bloodline. They have a full moon party whenever there is a full moon, we went, it was unreal and a great way to end our trip. In conclusion, if you are a family with kids, Hawks Cay is unreal, get a villa, you won't be disappointed. I can't speak to staying here as someone traveling without kids, but if we did, tranquility pool and poolside service would work for us all day long. It feels like the resort is smack in the middle of the Keys, and off the main drag, away from the tourist shops. It was truly paradise and we look forward to returning again. Yes, the TV is not HD, ok, but you aren't there to watch TV, the keys are a great place to relax and escape the real world, enjoy. read more

Writing this review as I will be checking out tomorrow morning. I cannot speak more highly of the staff. Polite and helpful throughout. The outdoor amenities are five star quality as was the staff at the Tiki Bar. The breakfast buffet left a lot to be desired considering the price but again, the staff was just amazing. The kids loved the Dolphin Encounter and the trainers were thrilled to answer all our questions thoughtfully. concerns as to the small confined areas the dolphins are kept in were answered knowledgeably and you could tell that they are absolutely devoted to these magical creatures. The reason I cannot give this resort a five star rating is the room service. No room service to be had and somehow this resort feels they cannot provide soap bars or bottles of shampoo/rinse. They use dispensers with unknown products and worse, way worse .... They were empty! The a/c unit as well as a few of our family's were not cooling properly. So I just got back from Hawks Cay Resort last week and it's was really a great time. There's a few reasons why it get 4 stars however I would really put it around 3.8 or so. It was just me and my husband and we had one of the rooms with a private ground floor deck and we were on the side of hotel with the adult only pool. The deck had boards that we recently replaced but there were not stained to match yet. Another 10 mins of work and it would of looks so much better. There was also a few cigarettes butts tucked into the corner on the deck that could easily be seen and cleaned up but the staff must have missed them. On the positive note, there were a lot really good things about our stay too. To start, The staff was very nice and helpful. The room was very nice, simple but luxurious. The bathroom was really nice, double sink, very nice large shower with a bench, and private toilet room (without a private light switch which is annoying cuz my husband would turn it off to be a jerk while I was in there). There furniture was nice and layout was nice. The pools were very nice also and I love that there is an adult only pool. The main pool is awesome too but it is filled with kids which I don't mind at all because u couldn't hear it all from the adult pool but I will definitely bring my kids back here. Very very kid friendly. Then the lagoon! The lagoon it awesome! There are not many beaches in the keys and this resort solved it by building there own. It really increases the tropical feel that we all want and paid for. Last but not least, the dolphin center right is the mix of the resort is awesome. At any time u can just go hang out and watch them. I did one of the dolphin activities and had an awesome time. Very cool that it's on site. Ok 1 more thing... The location in the keys is awesome also. Right between marathon and Islamorada so if ur like us and like to explore its really nice cuz u have everything from restaurants to great shopping all within a few miles.. Our visit to Hawk's Cay was fun for the family, but we won't be back. We stayed in a Harbor Villa, and arrived on a Saturday. We arrived around 6 with three small children, and had to wait for our Villa to be cleaned. Once we were permitted in our unit that had been "cleaned," the floors were filthy. The unit was uncomfortably furnished, and the ceiling fan on the porch was not usable. The downstairs bedroom was extremely small, and the closet was locked as the owner's closet. We had 3 bedrooms, two closets, 10 coat hangers. No hair dryer was in the master bath. The ice maker made very small amounts per day, so we bought ice. There were not enough utensils to set a table for six people. We had one small pot, one medium pot, a skillet, and a baking tray. It's hard to cook with so few supplies. We had no hot pads, oven mitts, bottle opener, or cork screw. The service was terrible. We had no washcloths when we arrived, and they were finally delivered on our third day. They ran out. (You have to be kidding.)The children's activities were a joke. They were poorly planned and even more poorly executed. For example, "Walk the Plank" consisted of one turn per child going down a slide. Items in the scavenger hunt were placed out of reach of the smaller children. (Really?) We were here 8 years ago, and the difference is mind boggling. So much is out of date and poorly maintained. The kids enjoyed the pool, and it was well maintained. The entertainment at the pool was fun. Bottom line: Hawk's Cay is not worth the prices that they charge. It's an outdated, poorly run resort with lovely scenery and nice people. read more

If Yelp would let me give this a 4.5 I would. Hawks Cay Resort was the highlight of our week-long Florida Keys vacation. We stayed here for two nights and wished we had stayed longer. If you have kids, they will love it here, as will adults. There are so many things here to do for people of all ages. Great drinks, a variety of pools (both family and adults-only), tennis, basketball, volleyball, mini golf, etc. You could easily spend a week here and not be bored. The rooms are also enjoyable. We had a family room which came with bunk beds for the kids. The only complaint with the room was that it was a bit dark, even in the middle of the day. May just be the room we had which was tucked away from the prime views. The only other complaint, which is why I can't give this a full 5, is that if you do stay here more than a couple days, you will get bored of the food. The menus are the same at the various grills. There is a fine dining restaurant on-site however I don't see this being a place anyone with kids would want to visit. If you are visiting the Keys and looking for family fun, you won't get any better than Hawk's Cay. read more

Overpriced and underwhelming. That's the gist of how I felt about this resort. For context we stayed in the main building not the condos. Pros: -Many nice and helpful staff members -Beautiful grounds -Lots of on-site activities- tennis courts, spa, kids club, swim with dolphins, restaurants Cons: -All pools/jacuzzis close at 5:30 (even in the adults only section. HUGE miss...it wasn't even totally dark then. -Room was tired with lots of repairs needed. Drain in tub was corroded and you couldn't even close it, pull out mirror in the bathroom was broken, umbrella on our walk out porch was broken. -Requests for towels, emptied trash cans, basically anything for your room must be made 24 hours in advance. I get not cleaning the room every day with staffing shortage but at an average of $700 a night I should be able to get basic services without a days notice. -Tiki bar by adults only bar closed early. Want to say around 6PM. -turned off the water cooler by the pool at night so you can't refill in the evenings. Why?!! -Missing all small personal touches. Most resorts have nice fruit flavored water coolers, special robes in the room or other small touches to make them feel a step ahead of normal lodging. As someone who travels 20-30 overnight business trips a year I found this place felt like a Hilton Garden Inn- nice'ish in an economy way BUT at a premium price. - Spa service OK but spa facility was meh. No pool, no jacuzzi, no steam room (if it was there they didn't show us), no light snacks and a small waiting room. They did offer flavored water and hot tea which was nice. At the end of the day this is a one and done trip for me. It wasnt horrible but I definitely didn't think it felt worth the money. The pool/jacuzzi closure was the biggest disappointment of the entire trip. I was traveling with a large group and the sentiment was shared by all of us (about a dozen). Many in the group had previously stayed at Cheeca Lodge and/or The Islands and recommended them over Hawks Cay. read more

We just finished a week vacation at Hawks Cay. We stayed in The sanctuary Villas. I would never stay at Hawks Cay resort again. The service at all pools was absolutely terrible! Bartenders were rude. Food at the pool was expensive and awful!! We got nothing that we ordered. We called to get someone out to our villa 3 times thru out the week to check the wifi and the pool, no one ever came out. Just overall for the money there are A LOT more options that are much nicer and friendlier!!! The only star I am giving this resort is for the Angler and Ale restaurant. It was good and the service was good there. Other than that, do not waste your money! It is not worth it! read more

The best part of staying at Hawks Cay was that they had 3 bedroom condos for rent for a great family vacation. However it all went down from there. The last time we were here we had 3 bedroom villa with 2 king beds and one room with two twins. This time we have 2 bedrooms with king beds and a single bed in the third bedroom. That forced one of our daughters to sleep on a horrible pull out sofa bed. We arranged for daily housekeeping but they never showed up unless we called to complain. We ate breakfast in their buffet the first day. The place was dirty, not enough staff or plates. Horrible experience for $24 a head. This will he the last time we come here for our annual adult family vacation. We complained to the front desk and asked for a manager to call us. Never happened. read more

This would have gotten 5 stars, because the resort is absolutely beautiful, but there were two incidents that bothered me. First off upon checking in we were told to stop by the bar for our welcome drink. By the way the concierge made it sound the drinks would be free. We ended up having them being charged to our room. At 8:45 AM on our check out day someone kept ringing our door bell. We declined to answer and the person I opened the door anyways. They then stated is your doorbell broken? I responded by stating no I was sleeping. The person then mumbled something in a very rude manner and shut the door. Horrible way to wake up when checkout isn't till 11. Hawk's Cay has the potential to get a higher rating, but as it stands I will not be returning. I stayed in the Island View King, and the room itself is gorgeous. It has a large, sumptuous bed, a huge bathroom with a ton of counter space and a private little space to do makeup, an extremely large and nice shower with a place to sit down, and a "private" toilet. I love the private toilet, because it is in a room off of the bathroom and it has a door that shuts. The "Island" view is more of a "parking lot view" but it doesn't bother me that much. The room has plenty of outlets by all of their tables, so it's possible to plug in all your devices at once. The maid that comes is very thorough, and the room is sparkling everyday. Now the reason why I will never be back: -The try to charge you $100/day for "expenses". They put it on your room key card. That wouldn't be bad, in fact it may be easier, but I am glad I told them not to do it, because everything here sucks and I would not buy it. -I have never been to the keys, so I assumed they had a beach. They do not. In the pictures that Hawk's Cay has on it's website, they show a "lagoon" and it has a little strip of beach. I went to said lagoon. The "beach" is concrete covered in a thin layer of sand. The lagoon is little more than a stagnant pond, and you are NOT allowed to swim in the ocean. -The activities seem plentiful on the brochure, but in reality they are overpriced imitations of what you can get on another island, or on the mainland itself. The dolphin swim, which I was looking forward to, takes place in a very small enclosure. You can go to Key West or Key Largo and do one of their dolphin swims, which are the same price, but you get a better experience. -The food is absolutely, unequivocally, HORRIBLE. DO NOT EAT HERE. I paid $20 per person for a breakfast buffet. The scrambled eggs were hard, and while they seemed to be covered in butter, it was actually covered in a paste like substance. The bacon was hard, and cold, the pancakes were thin and resembled a crepe in texture. The pastries were not flaky and were very bland. The toaster, for the bread, on the first pass through will not completely toast the bread, but the second pass will scorch it. The only good thing is the fresh squeezed oj, which is absolutely delicious. On Islamorada, you can get several restaurants for much cheaper, but of a much better quality. Chef Michael's, which is comparable in price to Alma, is excellent, and is in fact a little bit cheaper. Do yourself a favor and go here. Overall, the room is great and it could make a really nice hotel, but it's not a resort. I wouldn't even use this place as a hotel because it is an hour away from all the really nice destinations. I booked this and expected to stay on Duck Key, on all the "fun" things they had in their website, but in reality there is nothing to do here. Do not waste your money. read more

We stayed at Hawk's Cay for 5 nights in the main hotel and I would go back. The resort is gorgeous. A few tips: They charge you $29/day which supposedly includes gratuities for the bellmen and valet. They also include gratuity for the breakfast place, the Beach Grill, and Alma (I believe). This is however, not included in the $29/day - it is simply added to the check at those places. What? The food selection is definitely lacking if you stay more than a few days and are looking for variety, so be sure to venture 5-10 minutes to Marathon for many more options. Rent bikes at the Indies Club to get out and explore the island. Multi-million dollar houses are on the island, and it was really fun to explore on a tandum bike ($30/24 hour rental). Sit outside Alma/the main lobby area at night by the fire. Perfect atmosphere. Check out the Dolphin Connection on site and even if you don't do one of the experiences, you can stand alongside the dock and watch others - basically a free dolphin show as they jump and splash and obey the trainers commands a few times a day. We did end up getting in the water and swimming with them (very awesome, but have nothing to compare it to since it was our first time). All in all, a very relaxing, fun-filled getaway. read more

I love the property, lots of activities and the various room types are great for a couple or a family. The main building is beautiful and the pools have a great set up. A couple of things -The facilities (all of them) seem too small for the amount of people that stay here. We went to the main pool at about 4pm (expecting it to be winding down) and we still couldn't find a proper lounge chair. The pool was PACKED with people (think the Caddy Pool Day in Caddy shack). -The towel check out system. This is the first time I have ever stayed at a resort that required you to "check out" towels. You have to stand in line, fill out a form that is kept in a file-a-fax and you get charged $25 if you don't turn them back in. To turn them back in you must wait in another line and make sure they can find your card. The people in front of me had their card lost and had to stand there forever (with their kids in tow) while they searched all the cards. People don't pay $499 per night for a room to steal towels. Have some faith in your customers. We will def come back to the keys and would come back to Hawks Cay but we we wouldn't eat here (see review of Ocean) and we would probably only use the public areas during non-peak times. read more

Hawk's Cay was the site of one of the business conferences I had attended. It was a very clean place overall, with a nice private secluded feel to it. I wasn't too big on the cleanliness of the rooms. Our room smelled funny and the armchair had a funky stain on it. I won't venture into what the stain was but was quite disappointed that they would not exchange the room for us. They stated that they were booked so it was just too bad. They just took the chair out of the room and did not bring back a replacement - no extra ones were available. No comp, no additional amenities, nothing. The really upsetting part was that I knew they had more rooms at a higher price available, but that was not offered as a choice. I also met another person on the premises that was accommodated for a room change. But that's ok, I just will never give them any business in the future. read more

Though Hawks Cay is certainly not a terrible resort, it is certainly mediocre. We stayed in the Harbor Village section of the resort. The view is wonderful, with water flowing by your townhouse villa. There are plenty of tropical fish to see in the harbor itself, which made for a nice relaxing time-killer. The villa we were in did not match the pictures on the website or our expectations. The main room and kitchen are acceptable, but the bedrooms are stuffed with queen beds when they are sized to fit doubles. We are physically fit individuals and could not squeeze between the bed and the exit to the upstairs patio. Bathrooms are equally small. We could not stand directly at the sink due to the door being in the way. Our tub was in dire need of re-caulking. More is expected from a "luxury" resort. One shouldn't say "yuck" in a place such as this. The air conditioning system is terribly loud. It starts with a bang and ends with a sound of cracking drywall. This woke us up three to five times each night we were here. Trash is NOT picked up from the villas, nor do you receive room service included with the resort price (you still pay the daily resort fee, though!) read more

Gorgeous resort with beautiful grounds and exquisitely appointed rooms. There is something for everyone here. We booked for just one night passing through and ended up staying two because we loved it so much. My kids loved the pools and all the activities they have going on for them at the salt water lagoon. But I could always steal away to the adult pool when I was tired of hearing teenagers! I like the saltwater lagoon because my kids could snorkel there without the fear of being in the ocean, it was a nice alternative. The paddleboard rentals are fun too! The tram runs often and takes you around the property. So many things to do and the staff was always super friendly. I highly recommend the Kid's Camp too! We did half days and they had so much fun they were bummed when I picked them up and asked if they could go the next day! Can't ask for more than that Special Note: this place knows how to blackout! I am a travelin' girl and this hotel's window and curtains system is unmatched. Not a spec of light seeps through. Awesome! We slept in late everyday. It was a great bonus! read more

I enjoyed my recent stay at Hawks Cay in Duck Key. It's a SPRAWLING compound -- a bunch of tiny condo-looking units that are intertwined in a jungle of trees and lush plants. It has a fitness center, a Starbucks, and a really nice pool/lagoon area. You can also eat at Ocean (good spot!) for breakfast, which was delicious, and other meals... The negatives: -A/C is spotty. Went off during the night, left my family and I feeling hot and sweaty. Then, it'll OVERwork and you'll be really cold during the day! -Walking: if you're closer to the main office and area, you're set. We really enjoyed our visit to Hawks Cay Resort and will be back next year! We stayed in the Marina Village. I would recommend this accommodation to a family with 2 kids and 2 adults. Any more than 2 kids and 2 adults would be a tight squeeze. The rooms were nice, and "normal clean". Do not expect immaculate, but this is - like another reviewer said - a great place for a family who is busy and more into the activities than into sitting around the room vegetating. The activities were a close 2 - 3 minute walk from our villa no matter which direction we went. Our youngest daughter loved the pirate ship spray park. Our oldest daughter enjoyed the pools and hot tubs. We enjoyed the Indies Club as a family. There are games for the kids to play, ice cream on tap, and lots of activities to indulge in. There are so many pools to choose from, you can find what you want - seclusion, open into the sunlight, shaded, or whatever you enjoy the most quite easily. The salt water lagoon was really cool. It was a nice sheltered area for us to bring a sand bucket and toys to make sand castles with our youngest while the oldest rented a SUP and kayak to tool around the lagoon. From what I could tell, there are shade umbrellas and cabanas galore all around the various pools. Lots of lounge chairs available for everyone. At the main pool, there is also a fire pit inside a water feature. It was nice to get warm in front of on a windy/chilly day. Our family enjoyed the Dolphin Connection very much. It is pricey, but worth it! We did both types of experiences (but not the trainer for a day) and enjoyed every minute. What a cool experience! The front desk staff, and all the staff in general, were wonderful. Every time I called with a request, someone came out immediately. We had some issues with our toilets and shower being plugged from the prior occupants, but they had no problem fixing those issues right away. I also requested a broom and dustpan to sweep up around my villa and they had no issues bringing that over. Our only complaint during the trip was that the food is desperately lacking... I don't expect to pay cheap prices for food and drinks on a resort like Hawks Cay, but the resort prices for what you get was a little over the top. Luckily, we had Yelp on hand and found other restaurants in the area to try that really made it worthwhile. read more

Family vacation in the keys... Loved the location of resort. Took a great day trip to Key West and still less than two hours from airport. Mixed feelings about this place, first the bad. When I say bad, it's still bearable, I know it's not the Four Seasons, so I'm not going in with too high of expectations. We stayed in sunset village in a two bedroom "townhouse," (one queen bedroom and two twin beds in the other). The bedrooms were very dirty, the sheets felt stale and dusty, no bed skirts or something covering the box springs, tv wires hanging out of sockets. There were ants everywhere and stains all over the chairs inside and out and the place is very small. I can't even walk around the bedroom to find a spot for my suitcase. Lastly, the walls are super thin, I could hear the neighbors coughing. The good, there is a lot of good, please don't be mislead by my prior paragraph, I want to end on a high note. The kitchen is quite large it's perfect for a family that doesn't want to eat every meal out, I even recommend eating on the porch overlooking the water. You can't beat the views. The pools and the lagoon are AMAZING! The pools are the perfect temperature and the lagoon is just awesome, not to mention the great live mystic playing while you swim. We recently came home from a few days in the keys including 3 nights at Hawks Cay. When my OB said no to a trip to an all inclusive in the Caribbean, I looked for a large resort in Florida and stumbled upon Hawks Cay at a great rate through book it. One thing that is not explicitly mentioned is a $39 a night resort fee which actually doesn't cover much as you must pay extra to rent kayaks, bikes, cabanas at the adult pool. There are dolphins on site and you are able to watch as they are trained but to get to interact with them, that's extra as well. Overall, with the resort fee added, it was about the cost of a 4 star hotel anyway. We stayed in a standard island view room which was actually a view of the entrance from the second floor. The resort is HUGE. In addition to the main building with three floors, there are MANY villas all around the resort. There's even a separate kids area with a pool and play areas. We stayed in the main area during our stay. Here's my review: The good: The pools are amazing. There is a main pool with a nearby (not swim up) bar. There is also a beautiful adult only (21+) pool. The salt water cabana is quite beautiful as well. After 11, staff come around and take drink and food orders so, you really dont need to leave your spot by the water. During our stay, the resort was only about 20-25 percent full so it was super easy to get chairs. The room we had (2217) was clean and well decorated. The furniture was a dark wood topped with granite. There was a huge walk in tile shower with glass doors. The lobby was gorgeous, especially decorated for Christmas. There is a large outdoor fire pit that is lit at night, accented by palm trees decorated with Christmas lights. I can not go on enough about how beautiful it is in the lobby and around the pools. The bad: The rooms were definitely starting to show some wear and tear. The sliding bathroom door, although pretty, was not functional. Every time we tried to close it the entire way, it got stuck and someone on the outside of the bathroom had to lift and pull the door to open it. We resorted to leaving the door 1/4 of the way open when using the bathroom. Also, although the tile shower is beautiful, the grout is really dirty in high traffic spots. The ugly: The food by the pools and room service were mediocre at best and seriously overpriced. $20 for an 8 slice cheese pizza plus 18% gratuity and a service fee when ordering room service. It's about $5 less when ordering at the pool. Burgers and sandwhiches are around $13-17 each. We ordered chips and salsa and the chips were stale. Our Margherita pizza was probably the worst Margherita pizza I have ever had. I can't comment on the onsite restaurant Alma as we left the resort at night to explore. I also highly suggest you leave at lunch and go to the Grassy Post Market and Grill. It's about a 5 minute drive and the food is incredible. The other big disappointment was the construction. We read reviews complaining about the noise so we called to ask about it before we booked in Oct. We were told that the construction would be complete by Dec. Not the case. The worst of it was near the adult pool which was called the "tranquilty" pool. Ha!! What a joke. It was so noisy with constant jack hammering ALL DAY LONG that I wore ear plugs while at the pool. This helped make it tolerable. We voiced our displeasure at checkout but the staff did not seem to care. I was rather upset about the noise since we specifically called to ask about construction before we booked. Overall, the resort is gorgeous. I would absolutely suggest it with when construction is complete or at least when it's not near the main buildings. Also, plan to leave the resort often for food. There are many good options in Marathon ( 15-20 minutes away) or take a trip to Key West for even more options ( an hour and 15 minute drive). read more

Not what I expected. It's a decent resort, it looks better in the photos online than when you get there. I'll give the good and the bad: Good: ~ rooms are a good size ~ kids had a great time at the pool area ~ Starbucks served onsite ~ beds are super comfortable ~ clean rooms with big closet ~ Bell people are super nice! Bad: ~ room was musty and carpet always felt wet. It grossed me out. ~ mini fridge is a joke. Didn't even get cold. ~ food at the onsite restaurants is way overpriced and not very good. The waiters are also extremely rude. ~ amenities all just seem old and not anything special. The resort just isn't very pretty. Was very surprised when I arrived...maybe did not have great expectations but the resort looked great. Overall this resort is good for kids and families. If you want to enjoy a pool and probably the best ocean experience available in the FL Keys then their lagoon is it. Water was turquoise blue the whole time and every picture looked like a postcard. There is plenty to do and the resort caters brilliantly for kids. There is a kids center where there are tons of activities and supervision. The island itself offers great family excursions like biking and kayaking, to mention just a few options. Of course the big draw is the Dolphin Connection - the sanctuary is quite beautiful and would be my preferred location if my name was Flipper. But get ready to put your hand to your pocket. The Dolphin Connection quickly turns into the Dolphin Carving - where 4 kids with photographs added up to $400 before I knew it. Surprisingly the on-site restaurants were decent....not great...but decent. Would visit this place again and would rate it above Tranquility Bay or even Cheeca Lodge as a family value location. What I mean is you get the best value for your money here vs tons of fun options compared to the latter two options. Don't be afraid and take the plunge. read more

My fiance found a great Jet Blue Getaways deal for this resort. We jumped at the chance to go and booked our trip. We arrived on a Thursday and checked out on Monday. In that time we enjoyed days lounging by the pool and lagoon, some great food and drink, and adventures away from the hotel- such a great location on The Keys! Our room was large, clean, and decorated nicely. The bathroom was really clean and seemed to have been renovated recently. I did enjoy that the bathroom was really large and the toilet was in a separate little room, which worked out well being 7 months pregnant so I could run in there without monopolizing the entire bathroom. The resort was beautiful and clean. We enjoyed the pool, lagoon, and fire pit at night. I only wish we would have noticed that there was a separate adults only pool around an outdoor bar not far from the main pool. Overall the pool was not too loud or crowded but there would be big groups/family that would come by every now and then and it would get a tad bit annoying. Esp, when they figured that entertaining their kids involved giving them the empty Bud Light metal bottles to play around with IN the pool. I wish the staff would have watched out for that but it didn't happen too often. Food poolside was great. We enjoyed the cheese burger, veggie wrap and fish tacos. Everything was really fresh and service was quick. For resort pricing I didn't think the food was too outrageous. I was disappointed that getting a virgin drink didn't mean I was actually saving much compared to the price of the boozy one tho. The lagoon is great to sit by to enjoy sunrise. It is kinda rocky around there so we generally stuck to hanging by the pool. Check out the dolphins! We didn't do any of the dolphin centered activities but we did enjoy them doing exercises and getting fed. We always received great service when it came to cleaning our room, towel service, and waiter service by pool. Disappointed is the word. From driving up to valet to check in to room service, I was let down by a place that would appear to be upscale and a stand out and otherwise should excel. When I drove up to valet in the pouring rain, valet made me park my car not under cover so I could get out but in the pouring rain. It did not help matters that the valet attendant did not offer to get my luggage and otherwise wanted to write up my ticket in the rain and not under cover. Check in was not the most pleasant. I and just about everyone else had to wait hours for rooms. The hotel kept telling guests they had a larger than normal turnover that day. That is not an excuse. If you are going to charge higher prices and try to be a luxury hotel or at least upscale hotel, than you need to staff appropriately so the issue is avoided. Room service was disappointing. The person taking the order did not ask if I wanted anything to drink. And my dish arrived without even a glass of water. Rather, it was a simple grey looking hamburger with a wilted piece of lettuce and no pickles as requested. While the room was overall pleasant and I appreciate that electrical outlets were easily accessible, the bathroom was an issue. There is no shower stall but rather an elevated tub. The tub has a very small curtain. It utterly failed to keep any water in the tub when in shower mode. The result was that I had about an inch of water covering the entire bathroom. This place has been and could be nice. The property is pretty, the facilities functional, and the location good. But this trip was an unfortunate disappointment that I may not come back with family next time. read more

Updating my review. We actually were going to check out early and go to a different hotel due to the construction. Constant jackhammering all day long until after 5pm was too much. I had a headache at the end of each day. My room service was horrible and it made me sick. We did not eat at the resort again. The grounds are very nice and the rooms are nice as well. The staff is also very friendly. The manager at the front when I checked out ended up giving me a credit for my stress. read more

We stayed at the resort for just two nights. The room was very comfortable and had all of the necessities. Every meal we had here was great with the exception the crab cake. We loved the cauliflower soup and the lobster croissant in particular. We came here to go snorkeling but unfortunately they canceled on us two days in a row citing weather. The weather was beautiful and we later learned that the snorkeling had been canceled due to a lack of people participating. I understand that it may not be economical to take out a small group, but at least give me the option of paying more, or better yet, follow though on your commitment anyway. Bottom line: We would be open to coming back here one day, and if we do, we will be requesting the cauliflower soup immediately. read more

Don't book on Expedia! We booked a 4 night stay at $650/night for what appeared to be a water front 2 story. When we arrived we we put in a land side single story handicapped unit that looked like a double wide trailer. The manager told me they are not responsible for how Expedia portrays the property and couldn't do a thing for us. The shower had visible mold, the floor was not level and water ran out of the handicapped shower through the entire bathroom. NOT worth $650/night! read more
