Our third and final family trip to Hawks Cay We are a family consisting of 4 Kids under 9 and 2 parents, a single parent with 4 kids 22 to 17 and 2 grand parents. We came to Hawks Cay to be together and reconnect as a family . We booked our stay months in advance and were told that we would have side by side townhomes. When we arrived we were told that there were 2 town homes BUT NOT together as . Additionally the grand parents were assigned to a room near the pool but in the adult section of the hotel so they were now NOT easily accessible to their grandchildren as they were not even able to freely see them in their room. When we arrived it was later in the afternoon and we dropped our suitcases and headed out to find a Resteraunt after a long day of travel. After dinner we arrived back to the townhouse and discovered that the TVs were not operational and we had to stay up till after 11 pm to wait to have them repaired, not an easy task for little ones and 2 tired parents. Eventually the got fixed The next morning while using the bathroom I discovered NOT ONE, but a pile of multicolored pubic hairs piled in the corner of the bathroom obviously from weeks of different guests who had used the townhouse. As politely as I could I called the desk and explained the situation and asked for someone who could come in and clean the bathroom for my children " who do not have This type of body hair yet. After waiting 3 hours I went down to the desk with pictures and asked if this would be acceptable for their family and they then apologized and said that the manager would call me within a few minutes. 2 hours later no call, I go back , still no housekeeping and I need a shower. I catch the manager and showed him the pictures , he looked and listened , He acted as if he was Being so generous offering me a COMPLIMENTARY " cleaning of the bathroom. I was shocked and couldn't believe he called it complimentary. The house cleaning manager eventually came , apologized and removed the disgusting hair ball smear in the corners of the bathroom and called it a day. I never asked for anything for free , I just asked for what was right and gave them several chances to make it right and the finally did. It shouldn't be this tough, 2 days later the toiled is running , I called twice and fixed it twice, I'm through here, let it run, I'll close the door. If it floods, it floods. I'm through. These townhomes are tired, beat on and dirty and NOT CHEAP to stay in . I should have learned from my last rental here 3 years ago when we rented a big pool home on the resort and when we arrived there was still food in the fridge, stains on the tired couch and chair and makeup and hairs on one of my kids pillows. We had to shame them into coming back in to wipe the counters, empty the fridge and dishwasher and put clean sheets in the guest room . I tried to give them a second chance and chalk the last experience of as they were having a bad week. They need to get their act together . This is not how you treat your guests. I can't say I'd recommend this place to anyone I know. They act like they care but they really don't. read more

We went for our 1 year anniversary and spent the weekend here. It is a little expensive (about $250/night), but seeing as it was our 1 year, I didn't really get upset about the cost... The food at The Terrace breakfast buffet was good, even if it was a little expensive. Almost $20 per person. They add 18% gratuity to everything you buy, so just be aware. It wasn't a big deal to us because we usually tip 20%. I do have to say that the staff really does a good job and deserves that 18%. We were never treated rudely and they were always making sure that we had everything we needed. They offer some fun things to do as well. We went snorkeling and had a great time (although I did get stung by a jelly fish). The only issue we had was that we actually had to ask to have our room cleaned because we went out and came back at around 5pm and our room had not been cleaned yet. There was a small stain on the duvet cover (we think it was old blood) and a lot of mildew on the shower curtain. Even after we told them about the stain and mildew, they didn't clean either, but at the end of our visit they took $100 off of our bill. I honestly don't think these 2 things were a deal breaker because they did refund us some of the bill. I do have to say I'm usually very picky about certain things, but we had a great time at this resort and we really liked that they tried to make things right. read more

Bring money. I think it is a bit too high as far as pricing goes, but you can always leave the resort and go exploring around the island for good eats. The service was very friendly.. you got greeted by every single person that went by..that's nice. And the resort is georgeous! I felt like a prince..It really doesn't get any better as far as ambiance..and our room was perfect. The showers and bathrooms are huge, and beautiful. The WiFi is pretty bad, but if that's what you want..don't go to the beach. haha. There is NO BEACH ACCESS. No sunsets..we had to drive up the highway to see a good sunset. Yet the online pics that they display shows a beach...which is actually an enclosed pool/ fake beach. That alone is why they get 2 stars. I feel bad for giving such a beautiful resort a low rating, but as far as going here for a honeymoon, it wasn't good. I did not complain, but it is a bummer, because they were building a tiki bar when we were there and the jackhammer running all day was not relaxing. Do not eat anything at this resort except breakfast, and just order room service for breakfast...it's $42 for 2 people... but it's the only food that was good. The grill is not good, and Tom's was below average..service was good, but the food was just not freshly prepared, and had no delicious to it. This place actually seems like a place for families to bring their kids, and have tons of fun..you can get in the water with dolphins ($200).. they have a Pirate Ship and a separate kids area, and I suppose if you brought your own food, or caught your own fish and cooked it would be super...but we were on our honeymoon, and it had some drawbacks... read more

We have to agree with many of the reviews posted here. There are good and bad things about this resort. Overall, we are willing to live with some of the bad things and return to enjoy all the good things here. If you're traveling with children, this place is ideal. They have something for kids of every age. For the mature set, however, it is a different story. The villas are reasonably maintained, but the hotel itself desperately needs a complete retrofit. The most noted criticisms are the condition of the carpets and walls, and interior fixtures that have been beat on for perhaps two generations. The other thing which really stands out for us is that the food is abysmal and expensive. This resort would be tremendously well served to fire their dining manager and hire someone else to improve the quality and lower the cost. Here is one example: Their omelette station is staffed with people who have no experience making omelettes. Their beach bar occupies a wonderful location that offers a very expensive menu of over-fried food. Fixing the food would enhance the experience tremendously at this resort, because you feel ripped off when they charge a family of four $200 for a mediocre fried food dinner. We plan on returning next year, but we will be better prepared to eat elsewhere if changes are not made in the kitchen at this resort. read more

Just spent 3 days there. The resort is very nice/pretty and well maintained. We stayed in a King Room (Island view) which translated to a view of the valet and the road leading into the resort. The room was really nice though and the bathroom was beautiful (although a friend had the same type of room but it wasn't as nice). We went to a party in a Villa (2 Br/2 ba) that would be perfect of you had a few people going (also had a kitchen) The pool areas were a bit crowded but we did find chairs. we went to the pain pool and the kids pool (and the one behind that). The main pool has servers who bring drinks (quickly). The food. Hmmmmm. SLOW service. The same food is served at all of the restaurants and is "ok". The buffalo chicken tenders were pretty good though. All in all the resort had what i was looking for 1) nice room 2) amenities 3) activities and 4) clean. It IS on the pricey side (resort fees etc...) but we had a group rate since it was a wedding. But it was worth it in my opinion. read more

We stayed in one of the 3 bedroom, 2.5 bath Harbor Village vacation rentals that are managed by the resort. In hind site we should have probably stayed at one of the resort owned units which looked better decorated and probably kept cleaner. When we arrived at 4pm, the unit was not ready so we headed out to dinner. When we came back from dinner at 7pm, it was still not ready. After we complained, hotel management apologized and gave us a free night and also gave us smoothies while we waited. The unit we got felt outdated and stale. 80's type beach furniture that looked worn and ragged. There were tiny ants in the kitchen and one of the bathroom showers was clogged. We still enjoyed ourselves though because we didn't spend much time in the unit. The resort itself was nice. The pools and lagoon were fun with paddle board rentals and resort sponsored games/activities. The kids pool area with the pirate ship water play area was also nice. The dolphin area was neat, we watched a family do the dolphin experience. Pool side food service was attentive. We didn't get a chance to eat at any of the restaurants. I ordered a coffee at the bar one morning and it came with 18% gratuity included. Overall, it was a pleasant stay except for the lacking accommodations. Next time, we'll probably go with one of the hotel rooms or a resort owned unit. read more

Ed the Dock Master shop was a salty person! This is the second time putting my boat in the water, the first time was one of the best experiences that someone could have I didn't catch the guys name but he was built like a NFL line backer. He was very helpful and nice treated you like a customer. This guy Ed was one of the rudest people I have came in contact in the keys this week. Let me get back to the task at hand to explain why he sucks as a employee, after I asked him that I would like to use the dock to retrieve my boat out the water he acted like I asked to barrow his 1994 Honda Civic for the weekend. Finally after he got off the computer looking at his dream date on Facebook he unlocked the gate for me. Then after that I wanted to fuel up my boat before I left, I pulled up my boat to the pump he said I wasn't close enough to the pump that has a hose that can reach the other side of the resort. I backed my truck maybe 12 inches and he said STOP! It doesn't end there he kept mumbling unknown words while I am there. My friend that joined me for the weekend of fishing stated that he was dumbfounded by his shitty work ethic. I have stayed at Hawks Key in the past and didn't mind the over price food and the 18 dollar drinks but I probably won't find me or my family back there again. I recommend anyone that is looking for a good local family owned boat marina about a mile up the road. They are all very nice and helpful. I HOPE THAT IN THE FUTURE I CAN GIVE HAWKSCAY 5 STARS. 05/23/2016-My husband and I came to hawks cay for our 5 year anniversary for a whole week last week. I am rating this resort a 2 solely because the view is amazing. The palms the horizon the resort itself is paradise and the pool and lagoon are quite beautiful and made all the money we spent almost worth while. I am very disappointed that when we got there,  we were hit with not only a "$39 a day hotel fee" that included a few amenities like valet parking and coffee and the use of the gym. And on top of that a $200 a day retainer fee daily for "incidentals or any purchases made to the room. So, immediately as you check in we were hit with $1200 hold on our credit card as hostage to be returned once we check out that we were not prepared for. I also blame orbitz for not telling us about this when we reserved so it's not completely the fault of the resort. This hotel is supposedly a 4 diamond resort, however they dont include free breakfast as many resorts i have been to. You actually have to either order room service or go to the ocean buffet and spend $25 a person for breakfast. This is a bit much after eating the breakfast for one day and realizing they dont even have that great of a selection. This hotel is all about how much more money to get from the customer. Everything has obsurdly high costs to evvvverything. We were able to travel by car around the key islands and were able to do many activities for a fraction of the cost. It is crazy at this resort. The whole week we were there none of our bed sheets were changed, how do i know this because when we first checked in we noticed a blue stain on the side of the inside sheet and the whole week the same sheet was there day after day. They are also very stingy with the soap and little shampoo and conditioners. On some days they would leave one and not the other and they didnt dust the place very well. We ordered room service one day and it took them well over an hour to bring us what we had requested after calling them twice to ask them where it was. The refrigerator was sooo small we could keep anything in it. They have a lot of staff that do not speak english well and it was very frustrating to communicate with them. They should not be responsible to check in people when communication is very important. When we first checked in we realized that we had reserved for 1 less day than we had planned so we needed to reserve the room for one extra day. After much discussion with marsha she said to us that she didnt know the actual rate for the room but she said it should be no more than $280 for the day. When we got the check out slip they actually had charged us for $300. We didnt complain at all we just wanted to leave. After a nice long day of full activities we came to the room late at night to watch some t.v before going to bed to find that this 4 diamond resort is using ANALOG!! Are you kidding me, they didnt have H.D t.vs ...not only that ive been to less costly resorts that youre able to watch netflix and access internet t.v. this place needs to get it together all that money and their amenities suck. Its actually  a shame, they have such a beautiful location and they could truely be much better than this. I hope they can potentially become an all inclusive hotel. I wouldnt mind paying a few hundred more dollars.... anyways i dont believe i will be coming back to this hotel in the future. read more

I'm torn on this place. It is a very dated hotel. While it seems nice, upon closer inspection the place is in need of an update. The service was EXTREMELY EXTREMELY EXTREMELY slow and annoying. I've never had my name repeated to me soooooo many times. If she didn't focus on saying my name so many times I could have been checked-in in half the time. Then I get to our room and neither key works. I have to go back downstairs to get them corrected and they now have a line of about 10 people waiting to check in. They ignore me for a while, so I barged into the back office area to get one of the 4 people's attention standing around chatting. This got the front desk's people's attention finally and a few minutes later a manager (one of the people holding the wall up with their butts) fixed it. The kid's pool area is very misleading in their pictures. It isn't a pool, it is a splash pad area basically. I would've been happier staying at a Holiday Inn Express than at Hawks Cay Resort. read more

We really love this place and although there are major pros, there are also cons. This is the kind of place you don't have to leave. They have plenty of activities for the entire family. Take advantage of them, there is a $47 resort fee. We have stayed at 3 different room options over the years. This stay, we chose the villas. There is NO room service or no cleaning service. Only towels and garbage pickup. Should have read the fine print, or lack of. It didn't state there wouldn't be. Coffee machine, no coffee. Bring some febreze too. You can order food from the restaurants but you will have to pick up. You do get amazing views, there is a small pool near by and beach like areas to get into the bay. Others came prepared with kayaks and floats. There is no bbq allowed back here but you can walk to the marina to grill. Parking is included. Trillions where available but they did NOT come every 15 minutes as promised so we walked...it's a bit of a long one, especially when you have kids and stuff to carry. This is a nice little getaway for those who are looking for a mini staycation. I love that the resort is extremely family friendly! They turn the fire pit on at night and everyone sort of just gathers around while their children play in the pool. It is a good place to stay and relax with family as there is not much near. There are a couple of restaurants near the resort and Key West is just an hour and a half drive. It rained pretty much the whole weekend we were there so I did not see many activities going on. Now, one thing I did not like. We checked in and upon entering our room I saw there was a torn sugar packet still sitting on our nightstand and a visible stain on the sheets. We checked in almost at 5 pm so I am pretty sure housekeeping had made their rounds. I decided to do housekeeping myself our second day. My partner had also booked a couples massage for our anniversary at the spa and they had called to reschedule from 11 to 12 and we agreed. We walk in at 12 pm and then they say that they only had the massage booked for one person even though my partner remembers telling them it was for two. We could not come back later as we already had activities planned and Sherri's response was, "Well..we can't cancel it." I still do not understand why but okay, sure. Was I just supposed to wait in the lobby? Luckily, the lady next to her (I really wish I remembered her name) was able to schedule someone else for 3 pm and give me their slot. So there was a solution after all other than them just not being able to cancel it. However, we were still tense during the massage from what had happened (the masseuses were awesome though!!!). I do recommend the spa to anyone , just call and double check the day before your stay to make sure all of the details are correct. Other than that the employees were really friendly. At checkout Jose was awesome. We will definitely return sometime but next time we will be bringing our son so he can enjoy the cool pirate ship play area!!! read more

Good place to getaway. Extremely family friendly. I must say we booked through a group discount site and when we checked in, there was nothing on their books. This was the site's fault and not the resort's. Given our situation, they were extremely accommodating and kind. Depending where you stay, there's an issue. If you are staying in a room, you will be in the main building near all restaurants, the lagoon and amenities. Pool it's heated and the lagoon it's big enough for you to enjoy and children to be safe. Also from the lagoon area you get to see the dolphin's facility. If you never had a dolphin experience it's a must do. And cheaper compared to other places nearby. If you are driving you can go for breakfast, dinner or lunch to restaurants around the area. That way you get more food choices and may be save a few dollars. Please try to take a look at the 7 mile bridge. If you are staying at a villa; depending were you are staying it will require you to walk to the main building. it's a 7-10 min stroll which is not a bad walk. But when it's late and you have children's it might not be just as fun. They claim the have a tram every certain amount of time but it's more flexible with the scheduling. I must say that if you ask any valet they will pick you up or drop you in front of you villa. We stayed at the sunset villas and it was very quiet and calm. Beautiful sunsets to enjoy from the back porch. Another Advantage of the villas it's that you can bring groceries, snacks and beverages. A bottle of wine might not hurt either since one at the restaurants can throw you back $40+. We ordered mojitos and didn't liked it, neither the sangria it was more like a fruit punch. But if you order from their cocktails it might me better. If you are not driving you will be stuck and food options are good but there's not a big selection to choose from. Price point is kind of high for a dinner for 4 with drinks. Place looks clean and staff it's extremely friendly. Villas does not receive maid service. Villas are comfortable but rooms are smaller. Our 2 bedroom villa barely fit a queen bed on the master bedroom and squeezed 2 twins in the other. Bathrooms are also on the small side. read more

My family and I returned for a second year. We stayed in one of the homes in the Villa. Everything was working well, and it was beautifully decorated. Just a couple little things that might should have been repaired prior (guard rails on the deck and second story balcony were completely loose at the bottom, concerning when you have a 2 year old). It's a quick fix, and maybe no one had complained about it. As usual, the entire place was beautiful. The staff was much more polite. With that being said, there is ALOT to do. They've gotten more serious about security, which I recommended in my last review. They check wrist bands daily and have police officers on duty. (The police officer could lower his intensity a little though.) Overall, the best vacation yet. read more

I've been coming here for the past 4 years and it used to be great, amazing accommodations but for the last year it's been awful, the last time we came we had horrible service and very rude staff. They don't care at all about the customers who are paying lots of money to be here. I decided to give it an other try this year. And it was even worse. The ladies that work at the coffee shop are soo rude and unprofessional, they try to actually fight me, I was soo confused. I've never seen such thing. After speaking to a manager I came to the conclusion that they just don't care about the customers because he did absolutely nothing about this awful situation and to top it off they now close the pool at sun down, when it use to be open 24 hrs. That was our favorite part of coming here, my kids loved being in the pool till late. But that's not an option anymore. I don't recommend this place at all !!!!! . Is over priced and the service is the worse I've ever had. I won't be coming back here ever again!!!!!!!! read more

Hawks Cay is the best resort or better said was the best resort in the keys we've been coming here for five years every year in a row let me tell you guys one of the best things this resort has was a 24 hour pool we just checked in for our yearly week vacation in the villas of hawks cay and we were told now when we came to the pool at 10:30 PM very rudely that the pool was closed and we were not allowed to use this pool I don't know we've had a couple issues this trip even the cashier at the starbucks was extremely rude even cursed at us Hawks cay please fix the situation and open your pool again 24 hours thank you!! Like I said I love this place we come every year sometimes even 2 to 3 times a year but unfortunately I will not be spending my money here anymore if this situation of the pool does not go back to how it was thank you hawks cay for great memories and we hope we can fix this issue read more

I can't give them 5 stars because there were a few MINOR things that didn't make it absolutely flawless but, what I will say is this - **DO NOT miss out on the opportunity to say here!** My husband, daughter and I came to stay for 2 nights during their "Salute to Hero's" week, my husband is a US Marine and they honor all members of the Military each year in November and offer discounted rates to those who serve or have served, during the week. You can even submit a picture of your loved one in the military to be added to a slide show they do each Saturday, to honor those who have served. The service is impeccable, everyone is extremely friendly and helpful. We had a minor issues with the a/c and cable due to a momentary power outage (was literally a flash and out for one second) but after calling guest services, someone came immediately and all was fine after that. Our daughter LOVED the main pool and pirate ship splash pad which is a quick walk from the main building on property. They recently finished some major renovations so the grounds are beautiful but the room was amazing. Extremely spacious and comfortable. We had the family room with the bunk beds. Now, buyer beware because those rooms, do not have a view but if you don't mind then it's totally worth it. Our daughter loved the bunk beds. New flooring, not carpet. Sliding 'barn door' style door to the bathroom with a larger vanity, plenty of drawers for storage and hooks for wet towels/clothes. There wasn't a bathtub in our room but, the shower was big with beautiful travertine tile and crystal clear glass shower door. We also liked that the toilet was separated from the shower and sink/vanity area so if I was getting ready my husband or daughter could still use the bathroom at the same time. There was plenty of closet/drawer space as well and in this room 2 TV's, which came in handy when we were taking a break from festivities and my daughter wanted to watch a move while my husband watched the news. We ate breakfast and diner out so only had lunch on premises, at the tiki bar by the main pool but, the food we had was good and satisfying. The Nachos were really good and a great value; the cheeseburger was average but good and my daughter had the chicken fingers which were typical kid vacation food. Lastly, the use of kayaks and paddles boards in the lagoon were free which was another bonus! I'm sure there was more that we missed or didn't take advantage of and for that (among other things) we will FOR SURE be back!! Thank you Hawks Cay for a wonderful stay!! read more

Great resort, but not free. The staff was very friendly and the rooms were great but the drinks etc were pricey. We didn't eat there bc of the price and the ability to find better food just a few miles away. We will be back with our son though! The Dolphins on site are amazing and all the lagoons are worth it. We stayed at Hawks Cay for 4 days (Mon-Fri). Upon arriving we were very impressed by how well manicured the property is. Even though they were doing construction on the front drive it was still easy to find valet and check in. The valet fellows are really nice and effecient (make sure you tip them well!). Our room was a big, two queen bed room. The TV was a bit smaller than we thought it would be, but no biggie because we didn't plan on spending our vacation in the room. Anyway, the rest of the room was great. There is central air and a nice big ceiling fan. You'll need it because it gets HOT in the Keys. There is also a nice balcony, although we didn't have much of a view because we weren't on the lagoon side. The maid service is efficient but there is no turn down service, again, no biggie. The main pool area is gorgeous. When you walk out the doors you'll see a large family pool, a little Tiki bar, and the outdoor entrance to Ocean Restaurant. A small walk away is the salt water lagoon where you can swim, snorkel, and kayak (rentable). The water is warm and comes in with the tide. Be wary of JELLYFISH. We saw at least 4 of them, so let the staff know if you see any. There are chairs and umbrellas that surround the lagoon. Very tropical and nice. If you want to avoid kids there is an adult only pool around the corner called Tranquility. It's a great place to go to avoid children, and trust me you'll want to. More on that later. The only on resort dining we did was at the breakfast buffett at Ocean. For a buffett it is great. The food was fresh and well prepared but be ready to pay $22 for it. The prices are a bit steep for meals, so we did most of our dining elsewhere. The resort offers watersports from a small marina on the island. They have snorkel trips, kayak tours, paddleboards, and jet skis. The prices were high and didn't work with our schedules so we decided to look elsewhere for watersports, but I digress, they're available. There's also a sports center that has a basketball court, tennis, and mini soccer field. There is a giant kids pool with a pirate ship thing. Seems great for families. We didn't use it much. What I really liked about Hawks Cay is that it is smack dab in the middle of the Keys. A 45 minute drive gets you to Key West, and also the other way if you want to go back to Key Largo or Islamorada. I feel like we got the full Florida Keys experience by staying at Hawks Cay. Now, the cons... The biggest problem we had were children.....everywhere. Apparently our visit happened during a Jewish retreat of some kind and there were LOTS of kids around. At all hours there were kids running around the pool and in the front lobby making noise. Also whenever we went to our room (at any hour of the night) there were kids just hanging out in the hallway. It was a bit annoying. At one point my buddy and I were using the larger pool later on at night and out of nowhere three kids started jumping in and splashing everywhere. Even when they hit us with water they didn't apologize or anything, just kept splashing us. We finally complained after a few days but were told to just speak with a manager and that they've had this group coming for a few years now. So, that was a big reason we saught out things to do away from the resort. One other minor thing we noticed is that if you are staying on days like Mon, Tues, Wed the same amenities aren't available that are during the weekends. The Tiki Bar closes early and even though the pool is 24 hours they turn off all the torches and lights around 11pm. You'll get a better experience if you stay during peak tourist times or on weekends. So, the was our stay. We would definitely come back (at a different time of year) because it was a very nice place. read more

We were at the resort this past April for spring break. It was our 4th year in a row and we were very disappointed. We were certainly not treated like return or loyal guests. Apparently the resort is under new ownership and they are not yet up to speed. We are a family of 5 and stayed in a 3 bedroom villa. It was the same unit we stayed in the year before but paid twice the rate we paid the year before. The explanation was that we were "upgraded" the previous year! But no one told us. My kids love the kids club and couldn't wait to attend again. However this year they were not permitted to swim in the lagoon and pool, but they charged the same price as the year before. They explained that they had to get insurance. Understandable but don't charge for something we are not getting! And maybe let us know before we commit and pay the charge. Love the pool and lagoon area but they could not handle the crowds this year. Chair saving was out of control and unless you were at the pool by 9 am you could not get a seat! Rushing my kids out in the morning is not what I expect on vacation. Pool service at the adult pool was not up to speed. We could not get a menu or order food because our waitress was out of numbers and never returned. Her response when we asked if we could order was " you are going to have to wait, I have no numbers.." 45 minutes later we had to leave to pick up the kids. No waitress no lunch. Not what I expected from Hawks Cay or for $800+ a night. The villas were ok. We stayed at the Marina complex. The unit had some issues. The bathroom sink in the guest bedroom didn't work. The TV went out because the bill had not been paid. The sliding door to the deck got stuck and would not open It was not what I expect for $800+ a night. I wrote a letter of complaint (which Ive never done before!). I received a phone call but I felt like all I got were a bunch of excuses. "we didn't have the insurance", "we are working on that", "you were upgraded the previous years"... I felt as if we were being punished for being loyal. They took for granted that we would return. According to the person I spoke with, they are awaiting permits to improve the pool area by the kids club, rebuild the marina and restaurant. No guarantees as to when this will occur so my advice is to check on this progress before booking. I hope they get it together! read more

I love this place for a quick weekend getaway from Miami. It is only 1/2 the trip of going all the way down to Key West. The hotel has recently been redone, and you feel like you are in a Tommy Bahama store. The palm trees celing fans, and the nice breeze and tropical landscaping. They have the most amazing all you can eat buffet on sunday. Of the bests I ever had and I think it was really inexpensive around $20. All fresh fruits, cheeses, eggs, pastries, breads etc... It is very relaxing to sit by the pool and have one of their yummy frozen drinks. this place is great for a quick getaway from Miami city life. The hotel is reasonable 2 you can get are room for around $200. There is a resort feee also I think around $30. read more

DONT DO IT!!  We are here at Hawks Cay right now... day 2 of a 7 day vacation staying in the sanctuary section.  We've spent just shy of $20,000 in rental fees on 3 homes for a large multi family trip Today - We took 3 kayaks out fishing with our sons.  We are from Tampa, we live on a salt water canal, and have fished Tarpon as a family for years.  In the marina area here, the Tarpon are everywhere.  One son hooked up with a tarpon.. The fish ultimately pulled him into the marina dock area.  He boated the fish and began the process of removing the hook.  Then, "HEATHER" that works for Hawks Cay Resort came out and starting yelling at him.  Accusing him of killing the fish and she told him that it was against their rules for his kayak to be touching one of their dock pylons.  She went on and on using a demeaning nasty smart-aleck tone... All the while, assuming we had no idea what this fish even was.  All my boys and family members not only understand exactly what a Tarpon is but how to properly keep it alive while taking the hook out and releasing the fish with care and attention.  Finally, I had had enough of the harassment and spoke up. I told her that the boys fishing were with me... and that we are staying at the resort in 3 homes and have spent quite a bit of money doing so.  These are good boys and instead of getting into trouble all they want to do is fish all day and have and enjoyable, memorable, vacation experience.  Instead of correcting tone she increased her smart mouth comments.  I asked for the name of her boss and it's "ED".  I thought this was supposed to be a vacation???  Why am I paying ANYTHING at all to have my family harassed by Hawks Cay Staff?   The fishing encounter today was really just icing on the cake.  On day 1, I heard a few family members commenting on poor service.  I didn't pay much attention until our AC went out, found out the pool light didn't work, and the pool itself had not been cleaned.  We called down to the service desk all morning.. no answer.  We had do drive over there and personally explain the situation.  Let's just say that my wife didn't exactly walk away with a confident feeling that they would do anything at all.  It's now day 2...  AC is horrible, no pool light (which kills night swimming as an option), and it's still dirty.  No call... no follow up... nothing.   Look, Hawks Cay charges an absolute ridiculous amount of money to stay here... that's just the rental, then add on food, entertainment, etc... etc... which, I would gladly pay if the service at all matched the price of admission.  Instead, its a huge disappointment...   Even the circle lagoon on their website is a total joke.  Check it out... looks nice right?  Clear and beautiful?  I'll go take a picture of it tomorrow and update the post... you wouldn't let your dog swim in that thing...  total disaster. Begs the question...  Who the heck is responsible for hiring staff like Heather???  Or staff that has zero process or accountability when a guest requires maintenance?  Is there any real maintenance being performed anywhere at all like the lagoon eyesore?  Until they clean house here... and I mean THOROUGHLY clean house... we wont be coming back... read more

Just got back from our trip to Duck Key where we stayed at Hawks Cay Resort. We stayed in a two bedroom Villa over the 4th of July weekend and it was just lovely! There was plenty of room for 3 adults to include a full sized kitchen, screen enclosed balcony and 2 full bathrooms plus washer and dryer! Not to mention this beautiful resort was not over crowded or rowdy due to the holiday weekend! Service was prompt and friendly at every encounter we had and our stay could not have been better! We enjoyed a BBQ put on by the resort for all visitors, as well as a great firework show that was out over the ocean not far from our location. There was a live band and the service was outstanding. I was nervous our experience would be not so pleasant over the holiday weekend due to rowdy drinking crowd and or over crowding. The opposite was what we took from our vacation. They had hired security from the local police department to patrol the people. Most of which were parents with young children. I never once felt anxiety about being in a clouded resort or around a drunk and rowdy crowd for the holiday. We were a short walk from renting paddle boards, fishing excursions and best of all scuba and snorkeling trips! not to mention their man made salt water pool, fresh water pool, and adult (21+) pool. The lay out of the resort was absolutely beautiful and we cannot wait to book our next trip to Hawks Kay Resort! read more

The only reason that Hawks Cay doesn't get 5 stars is because a few amenities were not available causing a slight inconvenience. The phone in our townhouse was not working so every time I needed to call the front desk I couldn't and had to either get in the car and drive over there or walk over. Also the Internet didn't work and my LTE service was very spotty so every time I needed to look something up I had to either attempt using LTE or go to the main building and sit in the lobby. The staff are all awesome and accommodating, it truly is a place that can call themselves a resort. You technically don't have to leave Duck key at all. Three restaurants, 3 beach grills, 4 pools, a marina that offers fishing, snorkeling, scuba and more. We love coming every year even with the little phone and Internet snafus! The manager was super great to us and gave us a credit for the lack of phone and Internet. read more

Myself, my husband and twin 7 year old daughters went this past week from Wednesday August 5- 8th. Unfortunately Hawk's Cay, you did not meet my expectations from everything I have always heard. Let's start with arrival. Customer service almost non-existent. We were ignored for almost 5 minutes at the front desk. The employee behind the counter was rude and acted like we were a bother by trying to check in. Arrive very early to avoid insanely long chem out lines at 4 pm FYI. We got there at noon, no lines. Our room was ready right at 4pm due to my husband waiting in the line to ask if it was ready. We had a Sunset Villa, #5064. FYI , these villas are individually owned so decor and quality can vary depending on which one you get. It was dirty, my feet got dirty just from walking around the villa barefoot. We left unopened boxed food (velvet shells and cheese and bread) on the counter. Next morning there were tons of ants all over the place. We put everything in the refrigerator. We called 3 times for someone to come spray, which they finally did after my husband went to the front desk to ask. Bathrooms are super tiny with nowhere to hang anything up like wet towels, bathing suits or travel bag. The closet door was completely off its hinge and just propped up on the wall. Took another 3 visits to the front desk to get them to put it back on. Had to call at least 4x to get more towels... and at 1147pm on Thursday night, an employee decided to knock on the door and leave a bag of linens. Which we never asked for FYI. Just a heads up, unless you get an actual hotel room, the villas are spread out, so be sure too rent a golf cart in advance because they had none left when we got there. The main pool at the hotel is nice, but was super warm and very cloudy. You couldn't see the bottom. Kinda gross. Food and drink service is insanely slow so order with the expectation of waiting. The pool by the activities center was much cooler and very clean, however, there is no food or drink service there so that was very inconvenient. The restaurant Angler & Ale is very good but make reservations ahead or you won't get in. Treasure Coast Salad is so good. Nothing else was open which I understand why with all the COVID stuff, but don't book a hotel to capacity and have basically no food options and not enough staff. They also would not let me speak to a manager. Every time I asked, they would say they weren't there that day. So, getting any kind of customer service was basically non-existent, but they sure did show up a half hour before check out time to clean the villa... FYI the Sole watersports people that work with the hotel at the marina are super nice. The group snorkeling and private sandbar excursions were great. Worth the money. Hawk's Cay however, not worth the money. Disappointing. read more

First time here after traveling to the Keys for the past 16 years and we will 100% return. Beautiful well kept property. Staff very friendly and knowledgeable when asked questions. The pool area is awesome along with the water/fire pit. The 2/2 villa had great marina views and the beds were extremely comfortable. read more

I really liked this place. Wish I had brought the kids. Had a nice room and then stayed in one of the villas which is small but nice. The restaurant was good as well with a simple but adequate menu. I did like the sand beach and lagoon spot for hanging out. Nice that it was clean water, and yet not rough at all for a quick dip. Hawks Cay is a nice spot in the mid keys, not too far down a drive, and very laid back. Try the conch shack nearby for a friendly adult crowd if you get bored a the resort. They have nice tennis facilities as well. The dolphin experience is pretty nice but I did not get a chance to experience personally. Looked like a lot of fun though. read more

However from the adult pool to Alma restaurant and even buffet breakfast at Ocean the service was ridiculous. You have to stalk the staff to get anything in the whole resort. Five pools, several restaurants ( which I recommend foregoing). Adult pool. Kids pool, lagoon, water sports. Great accommodations. I stayed in a three room Villa with four comfortable beds. BUT they aren't able to provide the level of customer service people really want. It just was inconsistent. The one bartender I bought a $14 margarita from couldn't or wouldn't tell me the number for room service. The front desk said you could order room service until 11 or at the bar. However the bar stops serving at 10 according to the bartender. Really? On a Saturday night at a resort in the keys? So the bartenders response was to call and complain instead of making my drink and letting me go order room service. We needed to eat and we wanted to drink too. Now in fairness he was busy. But I wasn't inclined to be forgiving after checking in and them not being able to find my name as it was spelled in such a way no one would recognize it. If you stay in a Villa. Just bring your own food and liquor and you won't have a problem. Marathon is close and has excellent restaurants such as Brutus Seafood. The TVs weren't broken but we couldn't get the remotes to cooperate so we had only one channel and none in the bedroom ( same problem) but who comes there to watch TV. Still second rate again ! Again, the place has service that is either good or bad. It's inconsistent. Room service took long and was cold as in too cold to really want to eat. The pizza they sent to replace it was sub par. They fixed it by comping the room service but the fact we were not treated properly at the bar by one bartender and later by one person at the coffee shop ISN'T apparently notable as its what most people experience here. It's just not a secret: customer service, customer service, customer service. Provide better consistent customer service practices and this becomes a first class resort. I don't know how busy they are but they seem well staffed so I don't know what the problem is. Prices are not cheap for food and beverages and I wouldn't mind if service were good but for now; BRING YOUR OWN FOOD AND DRINK. read more

Just arrived this evening and already we dislike it. Very overpriced for the quality. I am wearing my shoes in the room because it's so dingy. Kids paradise I suppose if they are not used to having a pool but definitely not worth the $500/night. Dined at the "fine dining" restaurant. Really expensive and subpar. Dinner for 2 adults and 2 kids was $200. Will not eat here again during this 2 day weekend. So underwhelmed. Our room was next to elevator and we could hear people talking late last night and early morning. The Starbucks ran out of most fruit for smoothies, all but 2 bagels and all cookies by 10:00. No chips or similar available. We actually checked out because the thought of one more night was torture. I have no idea what these Yelp reviewers like about this place. I have been here many times in the past. Maybe 7-8. Now I understand that this place was hit by the hurricane last September 2017 but still. They are really not trying to make guests here happy. They make it very difficult to want to buy a condo or home here. If you aren't part of the rental program you can't use the pools or the amenities. So we went off property to spend our money. 4 of us went to a local beach/pool club and spent 700.00 in 4 hours drinking and eating. You would think the management here would be smart enough to realize that it's Vet slow here right now and they need to make it a happy place to stay. Accommodate those that are renting a condo or house on property. Looking to purchase a unit or a home on the island. I wasn't asking for free access. I would have gladly paid a fee per person. If the hotel is sold out( it's not open) or the condos were at a higher than say 75% occupancy then don't accept any pool passes. The pools are empty. They could sell passes for 25.00 a person and put some $$$ in the Bank while they are rebuilding. Something isn't right here Management seemed very out of touch. They say it's not part of their resort but the condos are in their community and the community pool has the same name and they say you can't use it. I am trying to pay to use it and they still don't want your money. I was staying at a freinds condo for free. Why would I pay to stay at the resort when I am use a friends for no charge? The management needs to wake up and be friendly to all people staying on their property. Wether managed property or not. It's their choice of course. But they can make $$ for 1 and 2 stop pushing people away so next time they will want to stay at Hawks cay. The way they do it now they are just introducing people to other beach clubs and saying we don't want you to stay here and don't come back. That's the way I feel and 3 other people I talked to at the beach club in Marathon said they felt the same way. We spent thousands on food, drinks and other expenses and not 1 penny was spent on property. That seems really crazy that Hawks Cay doesn't want to earn those dollars. read more

A great place to stay in the keys for families. Hotel and rooms - was remodeled a few years ago and looks very modern and high end. rooms are spacious and clean. We stayed in the main building overlooking the pool, but friends say the way to go is the villas. Restaurants - overpriced for just ordinary quality. We would prefer to eat off site in Marathon or Islamorada. Activities - The pool and lagoon are great places to hang during the day. Can paddle board or kayak right there in lagoon. The spa doesn't look all that great but they do an amazing job. Plenty for kids to do in evening in the Kids club. The main reason to go is the Dolphin Experience - the best we have ever done. Can really interact with them, teach them tricks, feed them, etc. a little pricey($175 per) but well worth it! read more

Very nice resorts. Many restaurants close by. Excellent place for children. Fitness center is small but has all the necessary equipment to stay fit. Pool is fantastic, drinks are great. Dolphins on site. There is a Starbucks and ice cream place. read more

Our first stay out of two visits here we slept in a town house overlooking the Bay Area. It slept 6 people comfortably and had all the relevant amenities including fridge freezer cooker microwave etc. Clean and comfortable place We had a veranda that had a table and chairs. The steps led down to the grass and then to the waters edge. The sun setting behind the arched bridge of overseas highway was beautiful, with an orangey yellow hue illuminating the arches. From gazing at this spectacle my eyes natural dropped down and came back to the table and my friends. Along the way my eyes graced the surface of the water, a wild pod of dolphins breached the surface of the still water with young Dolphins in toe. We thought we were about to here "lights, camera, action!" and we were actually sitting in a movie set. Breathtaking! The second time of staying we stayed in the hotel complex overlooking the pool and tiki bar. We had to wait about 15-20 mins at checkin. All the staff were helpful, really pleasant. The room itself was clean and had a good feel to it. We ate at the main restaurant where our server was exceptional. The food was delicious too. We then headed to the tiki bar for more drinks. The staff there were equally as attentive and welcoming. We drank and played games all evening. It is a family resort so they do close the bar relatively early. The morning came around and my niece and nephew had booked the Dolphin introduction tour. They thoroughly enjoyed it and had beaming smiles they said it was the highlight to their vacation. Which is nice for them. I have my own reservations and opinions about such encounters with wildlife. read more
