Haymaker is located conveniently by Penn Station. My high school gfs and are scattered in North Jersey, Long Island City, and Central Jersey (moi). We decided meeting in the City would be the perfect compromise and voila, Haymaker. The bar also takes reservations online and we were able to find a reservation easily last minute on a Friday night. Haymaker has an upscale pub vibe, and a wonderful draft menu. I got an amazing peanut butter stout. The cheeseburger was juicy and delicious, a double patty of greatness. I wish they asked how you want your burger cooked, as I like mine medium and not well done. My friends said their veggie burger and mac n cheese were good. We shared the brussell sprouts as an appetizer. I don't like sprouts at all, but these were actually pretty good. read more

Went here with my mom for dinner before a concert- the food & service was amazing!! We ordered the deviled eggs (spicy), the corn salad, the prosciutto flatbread and the adobo ribs. Everything was very fresh and tasty and we loved that we could share everything. We also ordered drinks- spicy Margarita and a cosmo and they were delicious. There was music playing the restaurant was trendy yet comfortable. What made the dining experience even better was Lou- the manager, she was our waitress/ hostess and was so welcoming and attentive and gave great suggestions. Booked a lunch reservation for a big group around the Christmas/New Year holiday. Stopped in the day before to scope out the seated area since I've been to Haymaker before but only for happy hour drinks. There is a semi-private seating area with a few tables towards the back of the main bar/seating area. The staff was able to push some tables together for our party of 12. There was a good variety of food options available. We chose to order a bunch of things (flatbread, wings, sliders, hummus, and babaganoush) before ordering our main entrees. The solo bartender was also our server. Service went very well since there were so few occupied tables, but may have been a little slower if the dining area was completely full. No complaints at all about the food. Will definitely drop in for lunch again with a smaller group for friends visiting from out of town, with the location being conveniently located near Penn Station. read more

Cute little spot, I had a great lunch here and enjoyed a nice beer. Great spot to go to before/after a game at MSG with a few friends. It's not divey and it's not upscale either. The place itself looks like it's fairly new and it's very inviting. There's a nice bar area, and bar seats by the front window, a few booths to the left of the bar and a relaxing little area towards the back with a few tables. When we arrived, we sat in one of their booths and took a look at their beer menu. The beer menu was pretty legit, they had a lot of seasonal selections. For lunch we went with the tuna salad, which she did warn us was a pile of tuna on top of lettuce (not too exciting) and their veggie burger which had a nice kick to it tasted very healthy (I also liked the cole slaw that came on the side, very unique tasting - very healthy). While the service is a little on the slow side, this is place is a great bet for elevated bar food. The atmosphere here is wonderful. The asparagus flatbread is delightful and the roasted cauliflower dish is delicious as the sauce is quite flavorful. Been here twice now and both times I tried something from both their drink menu as well as their food menu and cannot say I was the least bit surprised with how much I enjoyed it all. Their drink menu is fun and extensive with plenty of craft beers, sour ales which I love. I ordered a Hot Toddy at my most recent visit since I am on a mission to try one where ever I go when it's in season, and it was delish. I especially enjoyed their sandwiches and salads which definitely feel hearty bug healthy. I found their Brussels sprouts to be a little salty. Also think they can add a little bit more light to the back room. Service is great, honor reservations which I have learned to value over the years. The spicy chicken sandwich is definitely the item to order - the chicken breast is tender and covered in a perfectly crispy and spicy batter, topped with creamy coleslaw. Came here for happy hour with some colleagues and it was a great spot. We needed a place that could accommodate 10 people outside, day-of reservation. I called at lunchtime and they mentioned having a couple other reservations, so they could likely reserve tables for us - but it was would 'bar service' only (order at the bar, not waiters) and that I should email the events team to confirm... no problem! The events team responded within 15 minutes to confirm! Upon arriving ~5:15p they had two tables set up for us and we ordered food and drinks at the bar. They had a unique selection of draft beers, with different styles for everyone, and a nice cocktail list. They were also accommodating to convert a cocktail into a mocktail. I had a KCBC Beach Zombie Sour beer and it was light, refreshing and delicious! Highly recommend for a warm day. They brought the apps out to us pretty quickly - wings, popcorn chicken, fries and nachos. They also gave a generous amount of plates, forks and napkins, which I really appreciated. The fries and nachos were my favorites - fries were semi-thick cut and super crispy with just the right amount of salt. The Nachos had a good amount of toppings and flavorful (but not spicy) red sauce. The wings the chicken were good - pretty standard and perfect for sharing. Overall, it made for a great happy hour. Is it destination-worthy? No. But if you're looking for a good place to hang out in the Penn station/MSG area that's reasonably priced, has good food & drinks and nice service - this is it! read more

They place had just opened and it was obviously pretty slow/she was still opening the bar a bit and going through her opening list. The take out can option was a plus, as was the big-bottle extra-credit list (eg 25oz). Food: I had a veggie burger that straight TORCHED any I've had in my years. Hearty, delicious, and more flavorful than your average bear could bear - thanks! The side of hyper fresh n' light slaw was a great counterpoint. Ambience: place was loud, but boisterous, not obnoxious. Service: not exactly prompt, but accurate, friendly, and helpful. Prices: for this borough, A-OK. So if that mood hits and you're in Chelsea, find Haymaker from its nondescript entrance and enjoy your veggies. The Crispy Yuca comes with a great smoked paprika aioli. I had just come in from another place on a late Saturday afternoon looking to grab a nice drink and dinner. The first thing that took me aback was the energy in the place. Lots of people there chatting away and seeming to enjoy the dishes they had in front of them. I say myself at the bar, and was immediately greeted by a nice bartender. After looking at both the food and cocktail menus, I decided to try to my luck with a cocktail called 'paper planes', and an order of brussel sprouts. Simple amazing! The flavor in the paper planes cocktail was intense. I found the balance of flavor in the cocktail to be more towards the 'citrus' side, but still, amazing drink. The brussel sprouts were also booming with flavor. The cheese used to make them was very strong! How they cooked them also pleased me a lot as well. After really taking the time to enjoy my orders, I decided to follow up the paper planes cocktail with a hot toddy cocktail. Hands down, best hot toddy I ever had outside the ones I make for myself, haha. Absolutely delicious, smooth, and balanced. The service was excellent, and the food choices there look amazing. I think the only thing they can possibly improve on is adding more of their amazing ideas to the menu. Will certainly make a return trip! read more

Not sure if the food was so bad due to their "Phish" menu but we couldn't wait to get out of here and go get a slice of pizza after our dinner. Not much of a selection but we tried the sliders, grilled cheese and falafel. The grilled cheese was burned, the falafel tasted like they were from the freezer section at the grocery store and were very dry. The sliders were ok. Presentation of all dishes ordered made us feel like we were eating in a cheap cafeteria. A few people around us got the gumbo and that looked liked the best option if you had to eat here. I've been here countless times as there's an improv theater directly next door from Haymaker. Their service has always been hit or miss, mostly misses though, especially at the bar area, even when it's quiet and there are plenty of workers behind the counter. Beer selections are decent. Their food is actually the only thing that's preventing me from giving them a lower score. It's actually REALLY GOOD! I've had their chicken confit, prosciutto flatbread, and another dish that's disappeared from their menu. Too bad their service is generally awful or this place could be a true hidden gem. Saying all that, if you want better drinks and better atmosphere, head around the corner to Walter's. If you want cheaper food, go anywhere. Again, the food may be delicious, but it's also overpriced. read more

This place is a shitshow during happy hour where you get a lot of loud bros waiting for their trains back to Long Island or New Jersey drink and see who can talk the loudest and the bro-iest. However, on a weekend afternoon it is bliss...especially if Lou is working the bar. They have great beers on tap and when it's not too busy, you can chat with the bar tender and find out more about the beers, have a couple of samples and have a great time. What I like in particular is that they have a variety of sizes so if you don't want to commit to a full pint or if something is good but maybe too rich or too sweet for a full beer, an 8 oz pour is just right. And did I mention they have a really amazing rotating selection of beers??? When I saw what was being tapped next, it made me want to come back. Four stars for the weekend! read more

Ehh..Idk. I found this place on Yelp and decided to come here for brunch with my fiancé and my dad because of the 4 star average Yelp rating. I made a reservation through Yelp as we were walking up to the restaurant just in case but when we walked in there was only one table taken. (This was on Sunday at around 12-1 PM.) We ordered the chicken liver pâté, deviled eggs, Mediterranean tuna salad, bacon egg & cheese sandwich, and the roast beef panini. All of the items were okay, but nothing special in flavor. I'm getting a little less impressed with Haymaker after each visit. We went here this past weekend after making reservations for a table. I know it gets crowded before MSG shows so wanted to ensure we had a table. Reservation wasn't a problem and we were seated fairly promptly. My issues with this place are the following: 1. Why is the AC never on? It was humid and 85 degrees and it was like sitting in a sauna. So uncomfortable. 2. Why does it seem like there are only 3 beers on Happy Hour lately? 3. It's insulting to my intelligence when the beer on HH is $7 anyway so it isn't even a deal at all. 4. The fact that an additional small cup of chipotle aioli was 75 cents and at no point were we told that a SMALL CUP OF AIOLI would be ALMOST A DOLLAR. Are you kidding me? That is just ridiculous. 5. Why is the one cider that I chose on the bill at full price? If there are two ciders of the same name, the waitress should ask to make sure. So we had to get the check adjusted, which it was, but we also didn't stay past one drink because of the heat, the overpriced food, and the lackluster HH specials. Time to find a new place! read more
