Came here for a smog. What a wonderful experience who would have thought. The customer service was EXCELLENT from the phone call to inquire all the way to checking out! They gave me parts that were recalled on my car to address with the dealership! Great quality work and felt they genuinely had my best interest! Quick and easy! Came here for a new service and what a nightmare! Came by and called for pricing and was told something different each time. Planned to come in the day before driving across the country for an appointment that was confirmed for the price and service twice. This is the third time in three weeks that I have been to this gas station on the corner of Friars and Hazard Road and the gas pumps don't work you have to go inside to pay for gas on the ones that do work (it's a guessing game) Who the hell goes inside to pay for gas anymore??!get your gas pumps fixed!!! you're missing out on money. The first Friday evening of the year will probably be the worst one of the year. Distracted by having to pick up my friend at the hospital I forgot to get gas. Around 7 pm headed north on the 163, I ran out where my car stopped which was right at the exit of the 163 going onto friars road. Not only was it dark but extremely dangerous. I set out to find some gas after grabbing my gas can in the emergency part of my car. Been panicked I ran to the nearest gas station which I saw next to Dennis. I ran in with urgency and asked for some gas on number six and the gentleman just threw out a number and said to me "four dollars on pump six". I said yes. In my uniform from just getting off work, I reached for my wallet to find that I left it back in the car. I ask can I get get a gallon and I will pay it right back once u get my car out of the middle of the road, where the guy threw his hands up and said no. In shock I said to myself maybe there are no good Samaritans left in this world (after dealing with a bad strain of luck). I then ran all way back to my car to run all the way back to the gas station to get a gallon of gas in which to return to find out they were transit people going through my car thinking that I have abandoned my car since I ran from it a second time is what's one said. Prob since I ran away from it the second time. Finally put a gallon of gas in my car and it's barely started for the gas was only enough to turn on my vehicle and barely enough to get me down the street. I came back to the same back gas station to purchase gas and the clerk the said he was not serving me because he didn't like the comment that I made and said that he has the right to refuse service. he said that he didn't want to serve me because I got mad that he would front me money for a gallon of gas. Did I get mad who wouldn't get mad but today except it and run all the way back to my car absolutely. There was a girl that wasn't even working with him instigating the whole conversation as well, Which I asked why is she behind the counter because she had permission from the owner. I said the owner please let's get him on the phone where they gave me the runaround. Well I then thought to walk to the pump and use my debit card. To find out you shut the pump off and I couldn't even use my debit card and was watching me through the window and tried to hide when I tried but I was trying to record him I swipe down on my phone and turn my voice camp recorder on it recorded what he was telling me or what I happen to get is most of it and an embarrassment for people especially those who act like this. read more

He cares about getting you what you need and making sure your car is safe for you to drive. I'm glad that this place is still in good hands ! In and out for a simple driver side break light replacement. I didn't have an appointment, but Phil told me to swing by between 11am-4pm and I should be good. Parts and labor was 11 dollars and some change. It was super simple. I read all the reviews and that's why I decided to give this place a shot. My mom's car's check engine light came on and so I gave this place a call to see if they could take us today. The guy who answered the phone said to bring it by any time today. I live 2 minutes away so we got in the car right away and headed over. When we got there I saw a sign that said free diagnostic for check engine light and thought great! Too bad this was a lie.... The guy that helped us told us the free check doesn't really do much and said to get to the root of the problem and it would only be a general inspection. He then said it would be $99 just to diagnose the issue. Not only that, but then he said only 1 mechanic was working so they couldn't even look at my car today and To come back tomorrow morning!! Why did they tell us to bring it in today then??!! I feel like they tricked us into going over and then tried to charge us for what was advertised as a free inspection!! I'm sorely disappointed. I've got to say, the people who manage and work at this place are among the kindest I've ever met. Whenever I'm having car issues, I know that either Leo or Phil will take care of me and that I can trust them. I've had so many other auto shops rip me off, so it's great to find a pair who's so trustworthy. Their assistants, Alexander and Courtney are extremely friendly and always make the time go fast when waiting. In fact in the past they've even offered me a ride home so that I don't have to walk the whole way! Most places I've been couldn't care less about that kind of thing. Not to mention that even when very busy, the car work gets done fast. The manager and the young people working inside are incredibly helpful as well. I honestly couldn't ask for more and if anyone's on the fence about trying them out, you should definitely give them a try. I was fortunate enough to have Phil assist me with my truck this last week. It was a little more complicated than an oil change or dead battery. My lift for the truck has been giving me issues. When I brought it to him, I could tell he was more determined than I was to find the problem. After taking it in and having him examine every part of the lift, he was able to pinpoint the problem. I will have to take it to a specialist for the specific part, which he found one for me, but the fact that he cared enough to research and diagnose the problem, it was apparent that he truly loves what he does and is not here to mess around with cost and numbers, etc. Cost was super reasonable and I left this place feeling so much more confident that I will have this fixed ASAP. I needed a smog certificate to register my vehicle. The first mechanic I went to told me I failed because the meter was reading Monitors not Ready. He then charged me $99 for a diagnosis that said my car needed a computer. He told me the cost of a new computer (without labor) was $1500 and suggested I find someone else to install and program a re-manufactured computer. Due to the many conversations, I had over the phone with auto shops regarding this dilemma, my choice was Hazard Center Auto Mart. I am very impressed by the service and prices I received. Phil, Richard & Courtney were all very nice and professional. Phil was diligent, friendly and knowledgeable throughout this frustrating process. While he could have told and/or charged me anything, he skillfully diagnosed the actual problem, which was not the computer at all. Being the upstanding and honest person he is Phil informed me that the make and model of my vehicle has a well-known reputation of being extremely difficult to smog. It was as simple as that. He stuck with it, and he went above and beyond to ensure that I left with the necessary certificate at a price I could afford. Meanwhile, he did not look for, make up or point out other possible issues with the car for the purpose of upselling or gauging me. His focus was perfectly and solely aligned with my objective of getting a smog certificate. The guy running the place was friendly and the whole process took no more than 15 minutes. They even have a a no frills waiting area with chairs. Yay! I have been going to Hazard Center Auto Mart for a few years now. There are several reasons I am happy going there. First, it is a short walk from my home (great when you don't have an extra driver to pick you up), they are open Saturdays, you can drop your car off in the morning and pick it up late in the evening from the gas station cashier, and the guys are super friendly and I never feel like I'm getting ripped off! The first time I went there, I was passing by one evening in my 20-year-old Honda Civic when my oil light came on. I stopped in to buy some oil. Two of the workers were getting off their shift and insisted in pouring the oil for me....really nice since they definitely didn't have to. I had been several places with that old car, and sometimes I was given a hard time and told that it was an "old car" and that I should expect things to be going wrong, but there they took good care of me. Now, a couple years down the road, I now take my "new" used car there for maintenance, and my smog checks (a star station). They are always friendly, get me in quickly (though I usually try to call a day ahead), and they work to get me a good deal. Last summer when I had to have work done on my AC, they quoted me a price, but then later worked with me and put through a couple different coupons I didn't even know about to get me a much lower price. Another time I had to be out by the early afternoon to drive to a family event. They worked with me to get me out in time....and even found time for an oil change. My husband had been having some trouble getting his truck to pass the smog test. Even though they couldn't help him with his situation, they talked with him honestly and offered advice. Brought my car in by appointment before appt time (12:00), was told 30mins to an hour. Walked over to Hazard Center for a coffee, browsed some books at the book store, then walked back over at around 12:30 where I sat down at a bench to wait. The service guy came around about 12:45 to get my car to start the service. I am an at-home caretaker and needed to pick up my patient from a dr appt around 1:00 so obviously I could not wait. My life has to be very scheduled because of my work. The excuse was that a car had been towed there and therefore somehow took precedence over my scheduled service. No call to let me know so I could have taken my car elsewhere. No bother saying anything to me while watching me sit there waiting. I just called to get a price check on an oil change. I am sure the gentleman was busy and already annoyed to have to answer the phone, or at least it sounded like it. He was helpful in explaining what the price and services included were. Then he said the soonest apt. was tommarrow. " we are not a jiffy lube the process takes about 30 min". I have an emergency trip to AZ and I started to ask if all day there wasn't an extra 30 min. He cut me off and said the next apoitment was tommarrow. I say ok... I went here for an oil change, having had a reasonable experience on my smog check earlier this year (though as I've read others had- I received no discount at that time, despite my being brand new here and discussing the now $2k in CA taxes on my car since it was under a year old. Could've cut me a break but... Anyway...). I had scheduled an appointment time last week and asked if I'm waiting, how long it would take, they said about 30 minutes. Pretty typical so that was fine. I arrived 10 minutes early, and the woman checking me in took over 20 minutes to get the paperwork correct. Again I was told about 30 minutes (more though...). I walked around and came back, now with it being 40 minutes since I left, 50 since my appointment time started, an hour since I arrived. Not yet done. 10 more minutes and I insisted I have another appointment, I need to leave- and it took another 10 to get me out of there. When I got to my car, they had the AC on full blast and front windows wide open. They also screwed up the odometer reading and put it in kilometers instead of miles, making it look like I was way overdue for more work on my car than in reality. I had a decent enough first experience but will never return after today. Very frustrated and disappointed. read more

I was approved for the State Smog CAP program. The first time I tried to take my "Clunker" to their shop, their smog machine was down. Came back two weeks later and received fast and courteous service. Told me they had up to 4 days to repair and it only took 3 days. Total cost of repair was over $500, but below the $600 that the state approves as maximum. They also include another smog check, but they charge you the $8.25 for the certificate. I was very satisfied! They know what they are doing and do it timely and fairly! read more

My Review is only for Andre: Places like auto shops need to be rated on a person-by-person rating. Depending on which mechanic you get your experience at an small auto shop like this can vary. I came in during my lunch hour on a weekday (1:00pm Tuesday) They have signs up for free inspection on "check engine" lights that are on. I parked my car in front and walked over to the back where Andre greeted me. He then proceeded to take a look at my car, we even took it on a ride in the parking lot so I can further explain my problem. My front right bumper had been impacted and caused some internal plastic part to scrape my tire whenever I turned. He fixed it (more than just an inspection) and charged me nothing!!! So helpful!!!! I told him I would compensate him but he declined and instead gave me tips on how to maintain my car. He gave me his card and asked me to give him a call if I ever needed questions answered and problems with my car. I will definitely be going back and getting my car services down by Andre! I visited this place for a smog test after going to the Mission Valley Shell Station. The Shell station mechanic told me they were unable to link up their smog machine to my car's computer. My car is foreign and also only four years old, so I guess this is understandable. However, this was not a problem at Hazard Center Auto. I made an appointment and when I stopped in, they got right to work and were done in about 30 minutes. Unfortunately I failed my first attempt but they told me exactly why and the mechanic told me they would retest it for me after I fixed the problem. The price for re-test was approx. $9, thus I was happy I didn't have to pay full price for another smog test. After a quick trip to the dealer for a warranty repair, I made a 2nd appointment with Hazard Center Auto and passed. The two mechanics I dealt with were professional and courteous. I would return...of course after California tells me I have to obtain another Smog certification. There are plenty of states that have free emission testing centers but not in California. You would think with the inordinate annual auto registration fees, they might spend some of that money on similar state provided facilities. read more
