Went to this restaurant for the first time yesterday with the intention of getting Singapore Noodles. At the door I saw a couple Specials listed and decided to go with one of them-- lamb stir fry with veg and ginger. The food was ready fairly quickly and off I went. My goodness! What a delicious dish it was. The lamb was so tender and everything was seasoned perfectly. Many others have already described the large portions and they are not joking-- there is plenty for another meal. The folks working in the restaurant are very friendly and I think you would find it easy to ask questions about the food since there are many things on the menu that are new to us. I fully intended to try a different entree for my second visit to HD Cuisine, but out of all of the lunch specials, Kung Pao chicken calls to me the most. It was just as good as I remembered it, with one difference. The first time I ordered it, the accompanying mini spring roll was pretty average sized, but really greasy. The second time, the spring roll was truly mini, but was crispy rather than greasy. I definitely prefer the crispy version! My order was hot and ready when promised (about 25 minutes after I called it in) and the owners are very friendly. When I left, I was thanked by name! This place is a welcome addition to the neighborhood and I'll be back -- and might even try a different meal next time. read more

Went to check out this Malaysian street food craze that I heard about that's located in A strip mall on Dundee in Wheeling, so I ordered the Silkien Tofu with pork, Thai beef curry, and the Beef Rangoon. Anyways, the silkien tofu with pork was really good, the Thai beef curry which tasted like Filipino kare kare , and the beef rangdan which came in a smaller container compared with others that tasted like beef mechado was average taste which could use more time to soften the beef chunks which was kinda tough. read more

South East Asian food on in IL!? The flavors were bold and complex, and each dish was expertly prepared and beautifully presented. I tried a range of dishes, including the some Malay and Singaporean dishes, and each was absolutely delicious. In addition to the incredible food, the service at HD Cuisine was also top-notch. The staff were friendly and attentive, and made sure that our dining experience was truly enjoyable. The atmosphere was also cozy and inviting, with a warm and welcoming decor. Two Malaysian friends recommended this place even though it's pretty far out in the 'burbs. And since we've been looking for good chicken rice since we moved back from Singapore a few years back, we made the trek out there. It's a tiny place in a small strip mall. Seating is limited. Giving HD Cuisine an update. They have really upped their Hainanese Chicken (poached) game! It's always been pretty tasty, but now the meat is more tender and flavorful than before. I cannot stop eating it! Their prices are decent anytime (most entrees under $15), but their weekday lunch specials are a great value for $10! You get an eggroll, an entrée, and a soft drink for $10. One thing I do wish is if they let us choose white or dark meat chicken (we prefer dark, but I know other people who prefer white), but even the white meat is tender enough. I happened to find HD Cuisine when I was perusing Yelp and was intrigued. I was even more intrigued when I saw that they had a special on Wednesdays (buy one get one dish 30% off from 11 AM to 4 PM). Hubby and I shared the following dishes: nasi lemak (blue coconut rice, chicken rendang, fried anchovies, cucumbers, egg, peanuts, and sambal sauce), beef rendang (beef stew with chili and spices in coconut gravy), and mee goreng (stir fried noodles with chicken, egg, bean sprouts, and tofu in a spicy sweet potato peanut sauce). I normally can eat spicy foods but everything caught me by surprise by how spicy they were. Everything was flavorful and I especially enjoyed the mee goreng. However, the beef rendang was pretty tough. I wanted to share everything with my toddler but couldn't because it was spicy (not sure if there's a non-spicy option). I ended up giving her the free curry puff that came with our meal for spending over $40. It was still slightly spicy but she drank a lot of water in between bites. Hubby also ordered an avocado smoothie but it was mixed with banana which overpowered the taste of avocado. Overall, it was interesting to try and I would come back to try other dishes! read more

Discovered this little gem with my niece tonight. I saw one of the owners eat from infamous bowl I used to eat with in Asia and a beautiful bond was made. Malaysian food (close enough to Indonesian food) I had the nasi goreng, martabak, kwetiau, brought home rendang for my husband. Everything was delicious. It is a hike for me, but I will that drive EVERYTIME I crave my Malaysian/Singapore fare. The owners are constantly coming up with local, aka SE Asian, dishes constantly to satiate homesick folks like me. You'll see their recommendations plastered all over the tony store (it is mostly takeout, but there is room for a table that seats 8, and another that seats 2 and a few outside seating in the warmer months). Here are some recommendations (forgive me scant description. Google for a richer one :) ): Char Kway Teow - sweet, "dry", wide rice noodles with sweet sauce Hokkien Mee - brothy noodles with prawns (big shrimp) Singapore hokkien mee - wet, umami noodles with omelet and protein of choice Lor Bak - five-spiced meat rolled in fried beancurd skin, fried tofu Desserts - oh my, where do I begin. Lapis legit, black glutinous rice with coconut cream, mung bean "soup", Nonya cakes, cendol (rich coconut milk with jelly, red beans. So amazing) Hainanese chicken rice - fragrant ginger/garlic rice with braised chicken complete with chili condiment Nasi lemak - Malay coconut rice with sides of fried anchovies, and chicken rendang Mee Goreng - Malay fried noodles with sweet, slightly spicy, tangy sauce My other recommendation is if you see a non-Caucasian client ordering, eating and slurping away there, it's mostly likely me or my friends, ask us for some guidance beyond the usual orange chicken, or beef with broccoli, we will not steer you wrong. :) read more

Found this small place that served halal chicken and beef. Had the mongolian beef as lunch and immediately ordered multiple dishes like the orange chicken , the Goreng noodles. The location doesn't have much seating and can only seat maybe 4-6 people but if you are the neighborhood the owners are so friendly and nice . the conversations with them was so good. it's good to see folks that are passionate are their food. Lin and her family have created a welcoming atmosphere- typical store front dine in or carry out with added outdoor seating- Lin walked us through the menu making the perfect recommendations. we started with the Chinese pancake with ground pork- it was delicious with a little ginger and soy sauce for dipping. we then had two noodle dishes, Penang char Koay Teow and Malaysian Mee goreng. well balanced between spice, seasoning and texture. we created our own byob with Bella's wine market next door. I'm lucky enough to live nearby so I can walk over, place my order and walk back home with the goodies. The place is small with really limited seating so expect to do take out. This is their 1 year anniversary so they now have specials for dinner, meaning 3 set dinners for about $20. I took advantage of that and this time tried spicy lamb cumin as the main dish. My quick take: Portions were generous. Food is a bit on the oily side for me. Flavors were great. When they say spicy, they do mean spicy. I have been sweating profusely for the past few minutes on my balcony. Perfect for summer weather. Yes I would definitely come back. Takes about 10-15 min to get the order out. So many 4+ reviews and local, so we decided to try. Love Mom and Pop places, but this was extreme Mom and Pop. Just a couple of folding tables and chairs. Service was great. Young man was doing everything. Tofu was overdone and dry and the rest of the food was just OK. Between the dine in experience and the food I had to rate it 1.5. So happy we found this place! My husband and I have fallen in love with Malaysian food since moving to Chicago, but the places we can find are few and far between. When we discovered this place initially, we kind of overlooked it because it lacked seating, and some Malaysian dishes we have had really need to be experienced in real time, not as take out. But this place has defied our expectations. Sorry for the lack of pics, so we'll just recommend dishes by name below: Malaysian Chicken & Potato Curry (likely Nasi Kuning) - from the first smell this felt like it came out of your grandmother's kitchen. It was full of comfort and wonderful spices (spices, not spicy). And they really won me over with the amount of curry sauce in the dish. One of my only complaints about other places we enjoy, is that they often lack sauce, so you get a disproportionate amount of rice to curry - but not this place. The dish was swimming with amazingly flavorful sauce!!! Char Kway Teow- nice and smokey as expected, great wok hei. Beef Rendang- the meat was super soft, which made it better than some places we have tried, but the sauce was a little less flavorful. Hokkien Mee - wow, the shrimp-based broth is so deep and rich in flavor, and the portion given is huge! Definitely recommend! Prices are fair, they manage takeout really well (packing saucy food well), and the staff seem really friendly. This is our new go-to place for Malaysian in the Northern burbs. read more

I knew right away after looking at the menu that this place was going to be legit and that the chef/cook has a passion for cooking, as the menu is quite ambitious with some labor intensive items. I ordered the Ayam Masak Merah (chicken cooked in red) and it was delicious! Just such wonderfully different flavors with the anise and cinnamon and lovely the chicken was still on the bone! I can't wait to come back again and try some of their other items! Bonus the staff and "Owner Lady" were all very pleasant and u could tell they genuinely appreciated the business. In Chicago from Phoenix for my son's graduation from boot camp and so happy we found this restaurant. SE Asian food is commonplace across America if you're looking for Thai or Vietnamese food, but authentic Malaysian/Singaporean/Bruneian food is harder to find. This place hits the spot for those of us wanting a taste of "home". We always ignore any items that are Americanized and stick to the traditional items we're familiar with, so we ordered the Koay Teow, Penang Curry Mee, & the Penang Asam Laksa. All 3 were spot on and sedap. Wish we were in town longer so we can try the other traditional foods on the menu: rendang, murtabak, ayam masak kicap, nasi goreng kampung , kuih talam. Lin in the front of house is fantastic and made us feel like we were dining streetside in Penang, and Tony making amazing dishes in the kitchen. Some Malaysians posted on Facebook that there was a new eatery specializing in Malaysian street food. A first visit, led to a second, third and fourth. The food is incredibly good and so is the quality. The broth in the assam laksa noodles was rich. The fish in the soup was just right. It has not been boiled and left to overcook in the soup but carefully crafted in small batches. The satay, both chicken and beef has been really carefully marinated and grilled to perfection. My carnivorous boys have them each visit and we alway bring home for later. The proprietor, Mrs. Lin reminds me of my aunt in Penang who would bring out her finest silverware and dishes to serve her home cooked food. It has a very homey feeling and atmosphere at HD Cuisine. They kept my food under a blanket, which I thought was so sweet! She offered my daughter cookies and candy. So genuine and done with love. I order the Pho, which was perfect! Not easy to find Singaporean/Malaysian food around Chicago area but this one is not disappointing at all.

One of my pet peeve is westernized Asian food and especially those that drown their dishes in gravy. Finally found an authentic Malaysian place! Each of the dishes had its own unique complex taste. There's Chinese sausage in the Char kuey Teow that reminds me of the street food back home! The randang was tender and I mopped up all the sauce with the rice. Everything was tasty and fresh plus reasonably priced. I mentioned I like spicy food and they were so considerate to pack extra =) Make sure to tell them how hot you like your dishes if you request for spicy. Definitely going back for more! read more
