My 89 year old father was craving BBQ for his birthday. I went online to Heads and Tails web page. Ordered, set the pick up time. Flawless. The order was ready when i arrived, smelled wonderful. Got take out last night and OMG was it good. I was accidentally handed the wrong order but when we got home, we were so hungry, we ate it anyway. A couple hours later, one of the employees called me that I hadn't picked up the order. I ordered a pile of brisket with no sauce. It was fantastic. The rub was extraordinarily flavorful. Still trying to decipher what was in it. Grains of paradise? I'll ask if they sell their rub separately next time. The veggies had a nice crunch and mild pickled flavor that paired well with the brisket. The guy behind the counter touted one called "Hawg Heaven" as "a meal in itself." Well, it turned out to be more like an appetizer - flavorless and overpriced at a whopping $18. Where was the piggy folks? One one positive note, the homemade pickles/relish on the sandwich was very tasty. Maybe a jazzed up version of a yellow mustard could have helped wake up this very anorexic and boring "Hawg?" Hot Link in a BBQ Sandwich? Who thought that was a good idea? The hot link clashed with the BBQ vibes, leaving me questioning my life choices. Maybe it's just me - I've never been a hotlink enthusiast. Chicken Drama and Ribs Without Soul: Dry and Disappointing My partner's platter featured ribs and chicken. The portions were so small, they'd make a hummingbird blush. And the chicken? Drier than the Sahara and the ribs were without flavor and boring. Is this stuff being barbequed over wood or charcoal or are they being prepared to please the Berkeley environmentalists that are worried a little bit of particles in the air will give everyone 3 headed children? Stumbled upon Heads and Tails driving around my old neighborhood and noticed this new bbq place where the Hofbrau used to be and we decided to give it a try. The inside was pretty cool not too upscale but nicely renovated. I like the communal seating and big tv's good place to watch a game and have a few drinks! There was only one server working at the time whom was very attentive and was also the bartender. It was a bit before 12pm and I really appreciate a bbq joint that can open up before noon and still serve up quality q. We ordered the fried chicken sandwich with fries and a 2 way meat platter with brisket and bbq chicken with macaroni and coleslaw as sides. My partner really loved the fried chicken sandwich it was a juicy freshly fried piece of thigh meat and very JUICY definitely checked all the boxes of a good fried chicken sandwich-he did mention he wishes it was bit bigger for the price but the quality was there. The bbq plate was DIVINE the brisket was nice and tender you could cut it with a spoon, chicken was very very soft and separated from the bones easily (chicken leg quarter) , I loved the coleslaw I'm a coleslaw gal! the creamy sweet kind of coleslaw with chunky cabbage pieces very wet just how I like it! The macaroni has a wonderful smoky cheddar cheese flavor- however, it was soupy but I'm not gonna knock it because I know when I come back they'll nail it. The house pickles were perfectly briney and tangy with green beans thick onion slices and cucumber slices a good portion too, it cut through the creaminess of the slaw and Mac perfectly, even the bread roll was great! I also ordered a blended Irish coffee slushy that was so yummy and had me feeling right! H&T BBQ needs to really think hard and focus on details, because currently at their price point it's simply not worth it to go back. I've been twice, first time the burger for $16 ( now $18 ). No doubt this is high quality smokehouse meat, but a lot of details were missing. I'm not sure it was a legit 1/2 pound. But maybe they upped the size since the first week and raised the price $2. I understand fresh veggies are not everyone's thing, and maybe that's especially true when people are drinking alcohol, but for the rest of us, it matters a lot. A crisp slice of iceberg or some fresh mixed greens, a diabolical onion slice, crunchy pickles, and most important of all, that killer tomato slice. My burger was dry, almost nothing on it, yes cheese, but even the specialty pickles slices couldn't save it. Again, not everyone likes lots of veggies on sandwiches, but still why not provide the option for those of us who do ? I got the fries and while they were freshly cooked, hot, and tasty, it was more like the size of fries you expect to be included for free with the burger. For a $5 side it was super skimpy. Second time I got the pulled chicken sando for $14, and if I thought the burger was dry, this was way worse. I'd say overcooked for sure. Again no veggies except for pickles. They were nice enough to give me an extra side of pickles which got me through the sandwich. I'm a sucker for fries but I should have passed. This time my tray was leftover from some other batch prepared for an earlier customer. Sitting under the lights for awhile. Blah. And again, portion was not nearly enough for a legit side at $5. I'm in the neighborhood so I really want H&T BBQ to make it, but unless they plan on making their money from alcohol with food as an afterthought, they need to step up their game. read more

There is five slices of avocado and five radishes and a load of chips. A heap. I ask her why is this looks nothing like the guy next to me and she said well. That's how it looks. She brings out manager with glasses and the first words out of his mouth is I thought you were not coming here anymore. I said Drew asked me to visit again. Back of my head I'm like this guy is so unprofessional asking me that. I just spent 40.00 dollars to get someone to ask you questions to make your visit uncomfortable and make you look at them like they are crazy asking stupid questions while I'm spending my hard earn money. After I receive my fries I leave as I get out the door I see my burger has cheese and on the receipt it states no cheese. I go back in talk to guy with the glasses the mngr. He said hey why do you have so many modifications. I'm like look at the receipt instead being unprofessional to me and asking me why I modify and complain. If I complain it's because you did not prepare the way I asked and I'm a paying customer I can ask for the food without cheese on a burger. Then he apologizes after he re reads my receipt that clearly says no cheese. After that I had the most funky vibes from this place. The mngr are like rude New Yorkers in a way. The customer is the problem basically not the worker who is preparing the food and clearly can read a receipt. So after you read this one since you question if I'm coming back I will not. Wow! Great food and service (Raul was lovely)! The burger was probably the best I've ever had. My husband and daughter loved their meals as well. The sides were delicious too. The corn salad was light and refreshing and the fries were cooked perfectly. We ordered a passion fruit pie on a whim and boy, were we glad we did!! Make sure and save room for dessert. My family and I were so hyped to try this BBQ spot. The ambiance is good 4/5 stars. They have a lot of tables and a full bar. Great location as it's on San Pablo. The service was 3/5 stars. They only had 1 server for the entire restaurant. I don't hold it against her because she had no help. There was a man who ran our food which was nice. He offered to grab us sauces or more napkins, The quality of food and drinks was a 3/5 stars and honestly it should be lower because someone got food poisoning later that night. We recently went to New Orleans and the food just wasn't hitting. The portions were 3x smaller than I would've expected. It would've been nice if the server had suggested we order more than 1 of each queso and bean dip for 5 people. When those appetizers arrived, I was shocked. We would've ordered more chips, but our entrees came. I got the ribs and they were big and had plenty of meat 5/5 stars. My boyfriend had their burger and he hated it 0/5 stars. He was sick later that night. My mom had the rib-wich and she thought it was ok 3/5 stars. My brother and sister and law each got a pick 2 plates and they enjoyed their food. The frozen margaritas are very boozy, but they're good 4/5 stars. We didn't try the desserts. Personally, the meal was a bit overprices for 5 ($300 without tip). Wow what a great place! Last night was our first time there and our high hopes were met and exceeded. Brisket and pork ribs were outstanding as were the remarkably creative sides-- beans and coleslaw and pickled veggies. Even dessert was great-- passion fruit cream pie. I ordered the smoker pick 2 with the links and brisket and side of mac and cheese I usually go to Everett and jones for my bbq Seen this spot on the way and decided to give it a try. The brisket itself was so tender the link was smoked to perfection with a little kick to it trust me it doesn't disappoint at all ,the macaroni and cheese was very hot as well (temp wise) and cheesy perfection. This is definitely one of my new favorite barbecue spots in the bay area will be back.
