MUST COME HERE!! It was so good we ate here twice during our 3 day stay. Amazing service and probably the best food I've ever had in my life. Would eat here everyday if I could. The salad was quite tasty as the seafood was fried to perfection with a sweet dressing on top. However, the star is the fried chicken... OMG!!! The bourbon street love dish which includes mac&cheese and some crawfish sprinkled on top... need I say more?? Note: you will experience the real New Orleans... no frills... only have table service for lunch. Dinner is take out (can use outdoor seating if the weather is good) but don't worry- the takeout is still just as good as the table service. Hot spot alert!!!! This hole in the wall was exactly what I was looking for. Uptown has a diamond in the rough! I remember this spot used to be a BBQ joint pre-Katrina but this dive is perfect if you're looking for a great meal. It's a new spot so I'm assuming updates are soon to come. Delicious, soulful New Orleans style comfort food. The chef here has some chops and executes the food with skill and even restraint. We've had this place bookmarked for some time, and finally decided a pre-movie lunch was in order. We parked on the street and made our way inside to what is essentially the to-go area. Tia, the chef/owner's daughter and our host for the meal, told us we were the first arrivals and met us on the sidewalk to let us into the main dining room. I mention this because this building can be confusing to new comers, and it's easier to just go through the grocery store entrance. The dining space is small and homey. I was very comfortable and we were treated to excellent and friendly service. Tia is obviously proud of the food and knowledgeable. We started with the filé gumbo, which featured shrimp, chicken and andouille that day, and comes with a grilled cheese sandwich and potato salad. The gumbo was delicious, and I'm a fan of this Cajun style potato salad, which is creamy and rich, flavored with mustard and pickle. The grilled cheese sandwich was made with the type of white bread I ate as a kid and American sliced cheese, and was the only off note in an otherwise wonderful meal. I ordered the Bourbon Street, which features boneless fried chicken with a creamy crawfish sauce served over Mac n cheese with a side of that potato salad. This chicken was delicious, well seasoned and perfectly fried, and I enjoyed the mac n cheese, with its al dente pasta. The potato salad was carb overload for me on this plate, and I would have preferred a side of collard greens or green beans in its place. When I mentioned this to Tia, she said next time I could ask for a vegetable substitution, so they're flexible, which I appreciate. My partner chose The Superdome, blackened fish (basa that day) with a lobster cream sauce served with sweet corn and onion rings. I usually avoid blackened fish when I go out, as most chefs overdo the seasoning and you can't taste the fish. This chef understands how to make this dish (that's the restraint I was taking about earlier) and I would come back and order this plate myself. The fish was expertly seasoned and perfectly cooked, and I liked the sauce and thought the sweet corn was a nice touch. My husband and I were both unfamiliar with basa fish, and I've read up on it since our visit. It isn't local (Gulf fish) and comes from fisheries in Asia. For me, this is another reason I didn't go with 5 stars on this review, as I prefer it when local restaurants take advantage of our amazing Gulf fish. You may think I'm splitting hairs here, but basa is on the list of fish to avoid. I will return to this wonderful neighborhood spot and try more of the menu. read more

I visited here last weekend. The spot is a take out window so you order your food and take it to go. There isn't anywhere to sit I assume due to covid. As we reviewed the menu and proceeded to order food, we asked a few questions and the woman taking our order was extremely rude--she literally yelled at my husband. I mean like yelled at him like he was a child. I was extremely upset and wanted to not order after that, but really didn't feel like hearing my husband's mouth because this was the third restaurant we tried to get to to order dinner (the first one we couldn't get to because it rained so badly that most of the streets downtown were flooded and the second one we waited in line for about 45 minutes until we asked how long the wait would be and the restaurant told us they weren't adding any names to the waitlist at the moment so we left). Knowing all of the time we spent trying to find a place with good reviews without a long wait and that accessible by car, I decided to order. I told my husband what I wanted and left because under normal circumstances, I wouldn't have spent my money here due to the rudeness of the cashier/order taker. It took everything in me not to say anything to her for yelling and him and for me not to leave and not order. Customer service is important to me especially if I'm paying with my money!! The food was pretty decent. We ordered shrimp and grits, wings, and the fish and macaroni meal. The peas that came with the dish meal were extremely good and I hardly like peas. This is definitely a hidden gem. I've passed this place so many times and if it weren't for the write up on NOLA.com I would've continued to pass it. Its a to go spot and doesn't have any seating. But Im a girl who doesn't turn her nose up at a to go container. I tried the Skesh wings which have a sweet Thai chili sauce vibe with bacon ranch fries. They were absolutely amazing. I also ordered the Mambo fish plate which is fried fish on top on Mac and cheese top with a crawfish sauce and a side of green peas and potato salad. The crawfish sauce was very good but my serving of it was a tad skimpy compared to photos I've seen. I also ordered a slice of bread pudding which was also delicious. We ordered to go on Postmates since we were from out of town, and got the bourbon street chicken. It was AMAZING. The price was pretty hefty for 16 dollars but all things considering, it was worth it. The chicken was amazingly tender, and I was shocked by how easily it could be cut through, like butter. It was perfectly fried and not too overbearing, and the mac & cheese was lightly coated and sauce. And in my opinion, the sauce wasn't that amazing but it was really the chicken that made this dish. I'm in love with this food. My husband and I were in town for the Raiders game. I found this place on Yelp before we left California, so it was on my must try while in town list. Boy oh boy am I glad we came. I ordered the crawfish stuffed fish. It was absolutely amazing. My husband ordered the crawfish stuffed shrimp, and the blacken catfish. Oh my,!! everything was delicious. We shared all three plates. We were so stuffed when we left. There is a corner store near by where I went and grab us a couple of beers to go with our meal. We ate outside at the tables. It's not much to look at on the inside, it's a place where I'm sure most people order the food to go. But since we were on vacation, where were we suppose to go. My husband and I went to New Orleans for my birthday trip all with the goal to find great NOLA food. We tried places based on Yelp reviews amd although some of the food was good. They just weren't hitting the spot in terms of taste...was missing some "oomph". Let me tell you...the reviews on here are speaking the truth. Location: The place was really easy to get to by car. Had no trouble parking. We parked right in front of the restaurant. Some people might think the area is sketchy but people are around and we didnt feel uncomfortable or unsafe at all. Building: The building is very unassuming and if you dont know what you are looking for you might miss it. There were people eating outside when we arrived so we easily saw the entrance. Service: Excellent! Our waitress was so sweet and helpful. She does her job well managing all the orders/serving/answering phones all by herself. Definitely felt a sense of community there. FOOD: This is truly fine dining. No joke. My husband and I wanted to try different things so we each ordered two entrees (4 total..and yes we were ready to grub lol): I ordered the superdome and bourbon street love, husband ordered the chef's special - crawfish etoufee and superdome and bread pudding. It was hands down the best food we had the whole time in NOLA l. PRIMO os a good word to describe it. Everything was fresh, flavorful without being salty, and well-plated. Oh yeah and make sure to get "dat shyt" punch. We ate in at one of two tables inside. We loved it so much we went back the next day for lunch before we headed to the airport. Ordered the same thing except I got shrimp and grits and the superdome. Again...PRIMO! we were so stuffed both time but we was well worth it and the cost is super affordable. The food was absolutely amazing. I had the Superdome and my husband had the Bourbon plate. We were not prepared for what our taste buds experienced. Ok so we just got into New Orleans with the Family and looking for a nice meal but needing unpack we decided to go with a delivery option to our hotel. My 21 y/o son shared a story of his law professor's amazement at the best they had while in New Orleans was from Heard Dat Kitchen as a delivery when they were packing to leave. Skeptical me said "yeah right," but went along with it anyway. I ate my words and am here to tell you this one of the best meals we ever had. It was delicious from mine and my son's blackened fish topped with seared shrimp and crawdad sauce to my wife's fried chicken. Our meal was topped with a homemade warm bread pudding. I was a tourist and visiting. I had seen an instagram post highlighting this place and decided to stop by. It is not a dine in restaurant and orders are mostly to go. Its a little shabby and is not a five star dining experience, but the food, drinks and customer service made up for that. The young lady taking the order was very nice and we had a good laugh just talking about a drink named dat Sh*t. The drink reminded me of that good old sweet kool aid made only in the south of course! It was a mix of punch and lemonade but I cant wii recall. I ordered the fried fish with red beans and rice which also included a small salad and cornbread. She brought my order curbside when it was complete. The food was very good and hot. It was not too busy , but there were plenty of customers coming and going ordering. I ate my food in the car, right there in front and was full and happy to continue sight seeing. Absolutely delicious food and probably the best "New Orleans cooking" currently available because its actually modern and stuff people eat instead of just recreations of old recipes. If you're visiting the city do yourself a favor and order some delivered or for carry out. The space itself isn't particularly impressive and when we visited recently on a hot summer day was fairly uncomfortable. But you have to try the food - The Superdome is a work of genius.
